Prince of the Underworld
Kagome blinked her eyes, adjusting to the dim fire light. She raised her head up a bit before it came falling back to place from the throbbing pain it exuberated.
"Itaii." she whispered, scrunching her nose and biting her lip. She looked up to the ceiling once her headache resided. It was very brown. A hut, she was sure. She felt a warm spot on her right side, a fire. Where was she? What had happened?
"Oh! Shikon!" she said, forcing herself up to look around the unfamiliar hut.
She continued to get up to stand on her feet, still scanning the area. A blanket slipped off of her to reveal an undergown which made her blush. She picked up the blanket and wrapped it around the hut. She seeked the Shikon Jewel and she felt it, it was close. She found a small table where her necklace with the Shikon Jewel glistening.
She snatched off the table and put it around her neck. The journal was there and she small gadgets she always carried were on the table as well.
"My bag? My clothes..." she whispered. She franctically looked over the whole place, she needed to get out. The villagers must still be looking for her.
"Right here. They just finished drying." Kagome looked to her left and there a woman stood with long hazelnut brown hair, in a purple kimono. She was holding her clothes in her hands, as if presenting it to her. Kagome froze, not knowing what to say.
She has never seen this woman before. Was she not in her village?
"I'm Sango," the woman said, moving to the table to put Kagome's clothes and bag on it.
"You're not part of my village."
"We are not in your village. You're in Meido*."
Kagome grew concerned. "Meido? Are you joking with me?"
"No Miko, I am not."
Kagome stepped back, gasping. "How..."
Sango smiled, "The shikon jewel. You fell through the well, opening the gate to Meido for you."
Kagome grasps onto the blanket and carefully took it all in. She had once heard of this tale but never once consider it real except the moment she jumped in.
"I know its hard to understand but you'll get use to it. I arranged a meeting with the Empress, she likes Mikos." Sango moved to the couldron sitting in the corner by the table. "Are you hungry? You must be. You can get dressed in there."
Kagome followed her pointed hand to a small room. She grabbed her clothes and said a quick, "thank you." to the woman. When she came back out Sango was sitting at the table where food was already set out. Sango smiled and motioned Kagome to sit down. Kagome moved slowly while running her fingers through her hair to get the tangles out. She sat down across from Sango and pulled her sleeves back.
Sango picked up a bowl of rice and offered it to her. Kagome accepted with a small smile and picked up the pair of chopsticks near her. She took notice that there was four pairs of seats and chopsticks around the table.
"Help yourself, please." Sango said. She immediately reached for some vegetables placing it in her bowl and offered her the plate. Kagome gave another small smile. She was really hungry, yet... it was uncomfortable. The woman was so nice though.
"What is your name?" Sango asked.
"Oh, Kagome. It's Sango, right?" Kagome responded. Sango nodded.
"Why did you jump in the well, if you don't mind me asking?" Kagome chewed her food down before answering.
"I was running away. My village is horrible."
"Did not appreciate Miko's, did they?" Kagome shook her head.
"Did not accept me at all. I really needed to get away. Goshinboku told me to go to the well, so I just jum-"
"Sangoooo... we're here!" Sango froze and stood up quickly. "So soon?" Kagome heard Sango whispered. In stepped a tall man with short black hair and was wearing a dark blue kimono. The smile that was once on his face disappeared when his eyes landed on Kagome.
"Oi! Sango, I'm hung-" And then there he was... Kagome almost gasped at the radiance of this man.
He stood taller than the man before him with long silver hair, two of the cutest ears like a dog on top of his head. Fangs?
"Wow." Kagome mumbled but before she can even move an inch, the beautiful man was pinning her up against the wall holding her by the neck. Kagome's hands went to his hand and she struggled to get released.
"How fucking dare you show up here again!"
"Wha-" the grasp on her neck got tigheter, cutting off her air.
Sango and the other man were at the back of the silver haired, trying to pull him off, yet he was so strong.
"Ahh.." Kagome forced out to the pain.
"Inuyasha! Get off of her! That's not her!" Sango yelled, pulling on his other arm. Kagome could barely hear her, all other sounds were muffled to her. The hold on her neck was so strong.
"I'm going to kill this bitch! How does it feel Kikyo? Huh? It hurts, doesn't it?" Yet his words stung in her ears.
Kagome felt tears rolling down her cheeks and her air was quickly diminishing. With a last cry, she tightened her grip on his arms, shocking him. Inuyasha was pushed back, releasing her neck, trying to keep balance. Sango immediately went to Kagome, holding her up, helping her relax.
"What the hell's gotten into you?!"
"Shut up!" Inuyasha's hand formed a fist as he watched Kagome gasping for air.
"Kikyo died, you stupid bastard! This is not her!" Sango cried to him as she rubbed Kagome's back.
Inuyasha sneered and then turned walking out of the hut. "Inuyasha! Inuyasha!" Miroku chased after him.
"I'm so sorry, Kagome. He thinks you're someone else. He isn't normally like that. He wouldn't hurt anyone for no reason."
Kagome zoned out on Sango and through her heavy breathing thought about what had just happened. 'Why,...Kikyo? What did you do? Why am I getting punished for what you've done? Why am I living the rest of your life?' Kagome put her face in her hands and let the tears pour.
"Oh Inuyasha." Sango sighed as she watched the girl cry. But as soon as Inuyasha's name came out of her lips, Kagome's head came up with a questioning face.
"Inuyasha? That was Inuyasha?" She didn't bother to wipe the tears from her eyes. She staggered to her bag to retrieve the journal. The journal was thick and convered with black leather. There was a lock holding the borders together. Kagome ran her fingers over it and with a snap, the lock clicked open.
"Wha.. No key?" Sango asked. Sango followed Kagome's steps, unwilling to interrupt. Kagome flipped through a couple of papers before landing on one. She scanned the paper with her eyes and fingers.
"ears....silver...golden eyes." Kagome muttered to herself, She shut the book and the lock automatically latched. She looked to Sango who was observing her behavior.
"It was him. That was him. He is real." She looked around and arose to her feet. "I must- I must speak to him-- Inuyasha."
Sango frowned. She had been attacked by Inuyasha and now she wished to see him?
"This may not be a good time." Kagome reached one of her hands up to her neck. It was him. 'But that look in his eyes.' Chills ran down Kagome's spine to the memory of his hand squeezing her neck. It was actually him.
"I must see him." she said with determination.
Before Sango could even respond, she was chasing after Kagome, exactly as the black haired-man had chased after Inuyasha.
"Kagome-san you musn't-"
Sango stopped in the middle of her sentence when she nearly ran into Kagome who froze on the spot.
Kagome felt the choking feeling in her throat that quickly dropped down to the bottom of her stomach. She felt as if she swallowed an apple whole without chewing. The sight in front of her nearly took her eyes away as she tried to take it all in at once. It wasn't until she felt her eyes adjusting that she realized she had been blanketed in black.
Her eyes moved to the illuminations upon what seemed to be a mountain. These lights were the only thing lit in the abyss of darkness. She looked up above her, there was no moon, no stars, not even a cloud. Just an amount of infinite black.
The town that laid around the mountain was the source of the illumination. From where she had been standing, staring up to the town and the mountain the lights nearly replicated the stars, the way the lights hand been spherical and scattered.
There was beauty in this darkness. And that was what she feared.
"It's always like this."
Kagome looked over her shoulder to Sango. Sango's tone was darkened and heavy. Her lips curled into a small smile that she directed to Kagome.
"You get use to it though."
Her eyes focused on a spot in the higher mountain where the lights shined the brightest. Kagome realized it was because there was a bundle of lights, more than any other area.
"That's where the empress lives. You'll be meeting her soon. Any other questions she'll answer for you." Sango put a hand on Kagome's shoulder.
"Please come finish." Kagome looked to her and shook her head. " I must find him, Inuyasha. I have to speak with him."
"Kagome. He's - It's not the best time. I mean you should be angered, in rage, with him. Why do you seek him?"
Kagome turned around to come face to face with a large open lake that lay front of the hut. It glimmered in the small source of light from above. Following the rays, Kagome looked up to see a small glowing square. That must've been where she had fallen.
Her hand unconsciouly found her neck.
"He is the reason. He is the reason I jumped in the well."

"Fuck!"
Splinters from the tree covered his knuckles. He didn't feel it.
"Fuck!"
It hurt though. Not the splinters. Or his now bleeding knuckles. He leaned against the tree with his right arm. The sleeve of his shirt slithered down and bundled at his elbow. His eyes trailed to his forearm. Red prints of two small hands fisted around his arm. That girl. His hand tightened into a fist again.
"God, you're the hardest person to find."
Inuyasha glanced over his shoulder to Miroku. He was bent over, hands on his knees, catching his breath.
"You know, I can run damn fast, but geez. Using your demon side, something must've really ticked you."
Miroku straightened and took a couple steps toward him. "Inuyasha. What's going on?"
"Just leave me alone."
"Hey. You can't run away from what you just did back there. Probably scarred that girl for life! She did nothing to deserve what you've just done to her."
"That bitch can take care of herself." Inuyasha lifted his arm, showing the red marks that still burned at his skin.
"Is that some type of backhanded compliment?" Miroku crossed his arms.
"Keh." Inuyasha fell back against the tree, sliding to the ground. He leaned his head back, looking up at the black through the branches.
"You know you can't-"
"Whatever."
"She's going to see your mom soon." Miroku stated as he plopped down onto the ground. For awhile they both stayed quiet. In the distance they could hear the wolves howling not too far. Inuyasha closed his eyes. 'Kikyo... how long has it been?' Rubbing his face, he turned his gaze back to the man who was staring up to the black abyss above of them.
"What's her name?"
Miroku put a finger to his chin. In fact, he had not yet found out the girl's name. "That's a good question. Why don't we find out?"
Inuyasha rolled his eyes. "I don't want to go back there." Betraying his wishes, his stomach growled at that moment.
"Well, unless you plan on eating dirt and bark, I'm going back to Sango's hot, fresh food." Miroku stood up while stretching before turning and walking back the same way he came from. Inuyasha's ears twitched in annoyance. This was a conflict. He felt a rumble from the bottom of his empty belly.
"Oi. Wait up!" Inuyasha stood waving a hand at him. Mirokou was already there standing with his arms crossed, a grin across his face. With a bow, he lightly said,
"As you wish, your highness."
[|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||]
Sango demanded that she stayed inside of the hut and to not leave until she or Miroku was with her. She had assumed Miroku was that other man that had chased Inuyasha out.
Miroku arrived back at the hut while Sango and Kagome were finishing up. He kissed her hand and openly introduced himself before Sango cut him off and introduced him herself. He smiled the whole time he spoke to her, as he gathered two plates of food. When he finished, he bowed his head and excused himself, saying he wished to eat outside.
Kagome helped Sango clean the table and set a new fire. As she sat, loading the pit with firewood, Kagome watched Sango rummage through the hut. When she didn't find what she was looking for, Sango pulled a cloak over her and hilted a sword at her waist.
"I'll be right back, Kagome-san. I need to pick up more candles. Please, you must not leave unless Miroku or I are with you. Miroku should be back soon. Please stay inside." With a bow of her head, Sango was gone and disappeared into the black toward the lights.
Now, she had heard something outside for sure. It was a mixture of rustling and coo-ing. It spiked her senses when she heard the sounds. The coo-ing enchanted her and seemed to be reaching for her. Curiousity always won her over.
She was beginning to regret it when she walked out into the dark that had swallowed Sango. She carefully placed her foot one in front of the other, searching for that presence that called to her. It was getting closer, the sounds were getting louder.
She walked blindly in the darkness, her hands in front of her, making sure she didn't run into any trees or otherwise.
Suddenly, a dance of small glowing lights rained around her, giving her sight of the scene. She stood in front of a small pond that had a waterfall coming from the high mountain. The waterfall was light as it landed in the body of water. The same lights that danced around her, shed their light for the pond as well. The coo-ing was from here.
As she took a step forward, she spotted a blue orb breaking the calm surface water.
"Miss Kagome!" Her whole body was brought down a hand immediately covering her eyes. Her face was pushed against her "attacker's" chest. She was too shock to cause a struggle so she kept still.
"Sankontessai!"
Kagome heard a roar that pierced her ears. It was loud and stinging. She felt her body raise up and started to fly.
At least that's what it had felt like. Her face was still pressed against the chest. It took a little while before she was put down on her own feet again. When she was released from the hold, she was back in the hut, in good light.
As soon as her eyes adjusted, she looked up to the person who had taken her back here. Her hand fisted at her skirt as she stepped forward.
"Are you a stupid, woman?! What do you think you were doing?!" He spoke up before she even got the chance to breathe.
"Miss Kagome, if we hadn't seen you, you would've in been quite an amount of danger. You are lucky Inuyasha noticed your absence in the hut. Thank kami, he had reached you in time." Miroku moved in front of the silver haired man that had his arms crossed.
"You saved me?" Kagome whispered. Inuyasha turned his head to the side and "keh'd".
"Stupid wench." Inuyasha muttered under his breath. He turned away from the both of them and walked out of the hut.
"Wait." Kagome took another step forward to reach for him. Instead, Miroku intercepted, grabbing her arm before she take another step.
"Miss Kagome, please. Leave him be for now. I have to speak to you anyhow. I think it's time you learn what you're going to be up against while here in Meido."
Kagome dropped her arm in defeat. She bit her bottom lip as she stared at door that Inuyasha had left through.
Just what had they saved her from? And why?
[||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||]
"Glow Fish Demon."
"A what?"
"Glow Fish Demon. One of the most dangerous demons you can come across. They live in areas of darkness where it is easier to reel their victims in. Since we are always in darkness, they live everywhere. It eats anything and anyone."
"But... it was a demon?"
"Almost everyone and thing is demon down here. You will meet very few humans in this world."
"Are you? Sango?"
Miroku shook his head. "No we're not demons."
Kagome twidled her fingers in her lap. It had been true. The stories, the legends, that she thought to be all fibs. Half of her heart had believed in what Kikyo said. Her writing had been so detailed to be made up.
Demons were real. That means that... she was real.
"So how long have you been down here?" Miroku leaned back in his chair, scratching the back of his head. His eyelids fluttered down as a smile crept to his lips.
"I was born here."
Kagome frowned. "And how old are you?"
"I don't know for sure. We have no way of telling time. I mean other than Inuyasha." Miroku mumbled the last part and was unheard by Kagome.
"How about Sango-san?"
"She was born a little awhile after me."
"She was born here as well?"
"Yes, unfortunately." Miroku sighed. "Not for me though. I thank heavens she was born here with me."
Kagome smiled in response. They were lucky to have each other. She no longer had anyone. Not since...
"Kagome-san. Would you mind, telling me what a sunset looks like? I'm a little embarassed to ask you..."
"No, it's fine. It's one of the most beautiful things we take for granted. The sun is large and bright, almost a yellow color when its high in the sky. Yet when it is setting, it morphs into a blazing red orange-like color. It turns the blue sky to many colors."
"Is it true that purple is there in the sky at sunset?" Miroku abruptly asked.
"Yeah, on a good day, there is."
"It sounds beautiful."
"Why can't you go and see yourself? You can go through the well right?"
"No. Me and Sango are tied to this place...We can never leave."
Kagome's heart skipped a beat. What if she can never leave? Does she even want to go back? She shook her head angrilly.
"I'm so sorry, Miroku-san."
"Don't be." He waved a hand at her, brushing the heavy feeling of their conversation. "How could I miss something that I've never seen? Silly thoughts."
He cracked a smile for her, but it didn't work. Kagome didn't say anything just frowned to him.
After a small moment of silence, Miroku spoke up. "Empress wishes to see you. We'll leave after you get more rest. It's a trip all the way up there. We've got to do some preparing beforehand. So you should get some rest now. You've had a rough start here."
Kagome nodded and then bowed her head. "Thank you so much for taking care of me, both of you."
"It's nothing. Look, I'm sorry about Inuyasha-"
"No." She interjected. "H-he must have some troubles with my past life. This is why I must speak to him."
"Your past life?"
"Yes- Kikyo-sama."
Miroku gasped.
"You know of her?
"That subject does not run easy with Inuyasha. Miss Kagome, I believe it is best that you keep that information to yourself for awhile."
"Why? He deserves to know the truth."
"He is too stubborn for it."
"That's fine. I'll do whatever it takes."
"Miss Kagome, you don't understand Inuyasha. He's very, um, what's the word?"
Kagome shrugged absently. Miroku put a finger to his chin.
"Tempermental?"
Miroku shook his head. "No."
"Rude?"
"Mm-mm."
"Depressed?"
"Just a little. Wait- I got it."
"What?" Kagome said as she sighed in defeat.
"Ignorant!"
"Wow."

"Achoo! Achoo! Achoo! Achoo! Holy shit! What was that?"

Izayoi placed a hand on her son's head.
"How was it?"
"Uneventful."
"How is she?"
"Annoying."
"Inuyasha."
Inuyasha turned his gaze to her. "She looks just like her."
Izayoi's lips tightened. She unconsciously began to move her hand to brush her fingers through his hair.
"She practically told me that she was her."
