Lilac walls. Not a color Lily would have picked, but not bad. The green tile floor was a little odd, but she was an American; maybe green tile was popular over here? For furnishings, there was a desk and chair, probably for doing homework, and also a nightstand that stood next to the bed; all made of a light colored wood. Lastly, a good sized window allowed the room to be naturally lit by the sun during the day.
This, was Lillian Kimura’s new room. The seventeen year old had arrived in Japan not more than an hour ago to begin her new life as an exchange student, leaving behind her supportive parents, and everything she knew. But in her eyes, it was an adventure. A whole new world to explore.
She was actually starting the school year late, since summer vacation had just begun, which meant she had about a month before she had to start school. Perhaps they were giving her time to brush up on her Japanese? Either way, it’d be nice to settle in some and get used to living here.
‘Here’ was in the Higurashi home; now her home too. Lily had met everyone when she’d first arrived at the house, except for the only daughter, who was said to be around her age. The teal eyed girl was a little bit curious as to what Kagome was like, but she’d just have to wait until she met the other girl to find out.
“Lil-li-an” Mrs. Higurashi said her name in a sing-song manner, “I just found out that we have new neighbors. Why don’t you come along with Sota and I to greet them?”
New neighbors? Lily didn’t know any of the neighbors, so it wasn’t like new neighbors were any different to her, but she decided to humor Mrs. Higurashi. “I’m coming!”

“SIT BOY!”
‘Shit no! Fu-’
“ARNGH!”
‘. . . . . Ouch. Damnit.’
“KAGOME!” Only it came out kind of muffled and incoherent. Stupid Kagome and the stupid necklace. And stupid Shippo. Inuyasha peeled his face off the ground, a growl scratching at his throat as he pushed himself up. “Stop doing that, damnit!”
“You deserved it, meanie Inuyasha!” Shippo eeped when Inuyasha took a swipe at him with his deadly sharp claws, choosing to hide behind the stupid girl that had smashed the dog demon into the ground.
“Shut it! You’re nothing but an annoying brat! Just wait until she isn’t around to save you. I bet your ass would make a very nice fox-tailed hat!” He made a point of baring his teeth, and was pleased when Shippo jumped up into the basket of Kagome’s bike with a girlish squeal.
“Stop picking on Shippo, Inuyasha. We need to get going. I told Sango and Miroku that we’d meet them at Kaede’s. Come on!” With that the dark haired girl climbed on her bike and peddled away.
The golden eyed male mumbled lowly to himself about stupid girls as he itched at an ear. Leaping up swiftly, he landed on a branch and proceeded to shred up the side of the tree with his claws, letting out a little frustration. After a few moments, he grudgingly took off, heading towards the village.

“And this is the servant’s quarters, part of them at least.” Sonya slid open a door, allowing the cloaked figure to walk ahead of her into the dimly lit room. “The men sleep on the other side of the castle, in different quarters, and the women sleep here. As you can see,” she gestured with slightly wrinkled hands to the various mats on the floor, “you will be sharing this room with other girls.”
As she had during most of the tour, the other woman remained quiet. ‘Not much to say, this one.’ While quietness was a good quality in servants, Sonya found the girl’s almost complete silence a bit unsettling. But with a family recently moving away, consisting of two female servants and one male, Lord Kagewaki’s castle was short in the number of working hands. So when this strange woman appeared, offering her services, she was accepted.
Shaking her head to clear it, Sonya smiled and politely inquired, “Would like to leave your cloak in here? We can get you fitted for some work clothes, and then I can take you to the kitchen and get you something to eat.” The other female stood unmoving for a few moments, before gracefully sliding off her outer garment.
Sonya’s eyes widened at the snow white paleness of the woman’s skin, shown only where her hands, neck and face were unhidden by her clothing. She was quite pretty, her midnight tresses a stark contrast to her skin. Her eyes a cold dull grey, set in an emotionless face. A cold beauty. “What did you say your name was again, young miss?”
“Ayisha.” The soft, yet clear voice was lovely but empty, and sent a feeling of cold over the middle aged women. This wasn’t the first time she’d felt such coldness. It’d been fairly warm earlier in the week, but a few days ago the weather had abruptly shifted, bringing with it random wet chills. Eerie. Almost as if the cold was unnatural.
For some reason, Sonya couldn’t shake the feeling that Ayisha’s arrival had something to do with these recent occurrences of odd weather. There was something strange about this women. Whether she was just being a silly superstitious old women, Sonya didn’t know. Her grandmother had always told her to trust what she felt, so for now, she’d be wary of Ayisha. With the hope that nothing ill would come from her presence here.

“Lord Sesshomaru?”
‘Rin?’ Sesshomaru could hear the soft ‘tap tap tap’ of the imp’s staff as well. Had Jaken some information to give him? Why else would Rin and his devout servant be disturbing the dog demon during his dip in the hot springs. “Yes Jaken?”
“Uhm. . . .” Rin again.
Sighing lowly and brushing off feelings of mild annoyance, the silver haired demon turned his upper body in the direction of young Rin’s voice, his face it’s usual expressionless calm. Only to find that the human girl was the only one there, shifting from one foot to the other, holding Jaken’s staff with both of her small hands. A rather charred staff at that. “Where is Jaken?”
“I don’t know, Lord Sesshomaru. All I found was his staff lying on the ground. Do you think he got eaten, Lord Sesshomaru?” Eaten? Jaken was a rather small imp, annoying, of a distasteful color and disposition, and weak without his staff. It was possible that a larger demon had finally gotten the better of him.
“I shall summon Ah-Un, go meet him in the clearing where I left you and Jaken. You will stay with him until I return.” Rin nodded her head and dutifully obeyed, humming softly as she stepped in the indicated direction, still carrying the charred staff. The moment she was out of sight, Sesshomaru rose from the steaming water and a heartbeat later was dry and clothed. Taking off through the forest, he searched for Jaken’s presence, even for the scent of his blood.
An hour later he returned to the hot spring, having scouted the surrounding area and come up with the answer to Jaken’s disappearance, and the state of his staff. His servant had indeed been. . . .eaten. By some lesser demon who just happened to pass by with an empty stomach. It was odd for Sesshomaru to think that his faithful follower was no more. And it complicated things somewhat.
Ah-Uh was only a temporary keeper for Rin. He couldn’t watch over Rin all the time, especially if Sesshomaru were ever to need the best for his own uses. He had to leave the girl somewhere. With someone. But Sesshomaru trusted almost no one, and respected very few. Which left him without many options.
Then a thought occurred to him. The demon lord knew that his half-brother didn’t like or trust him, just as Sesshomaru felt the same way. But the miko, sister to Inuyasha’s dead lover; she would do. The old women would do no harm to a human child, and it might be good for Rin to be around another female.
His mind set, Sesshomaru headed towards the clearing where Ah-Un and Rin were waiting.

“. . . .and he goes to the same school I go to! He said we can hang out at lunch and stuff, and maybe if mom says yes, I can stay the night at his house. And Sota said. . . .” Keldric Mianashi listened to his younger brother talk about his new friend, smiling softly at Kendall’s boyish excitement.
The Higurashi family had come by not too long ago to kindly welcome them to the neighborhood. Keldy had missed the greeting, since he’d gone out with his father to buy groceries for dinner. But he’d heard good things from his mother about Mrs. Higurashi, and Kendall had shared more than enough about Sota to assure Keldy that the other was a nice boy.
“Kel-dy!” His brother’s insistent voice finally caught Kel’s attention, and he turned his dark grey-blue eyes towards Kendall, who was holding a red shoulder strap backpack. “The lady left her bag!”
“Lady?” A female of the Hisgurashi household?
“The red haired lady. She came with Sota. Oh oh, can we take the bag to her tomorrow? Please!” Keldy knew the request mostly stemmed from his brother’s desire to see Sota again, but he decided to play along.
“Sure we can, Ken.”
