Darkone- My chapters are short sorry, but the more I write the more i get engrossed in my story so they should be longer later. I am going to be using the main characters of Inuyasha but her friends (who will mentioned be every once and a while) and family will be left out because of how I've re-adjusted the story line.. Thanks so much for reviewing, :) -Ellie
Chapter two
Kagome sat uncomfortably on a wooden stool in the counter of the social-lite coffee shop. This place was packed, like she assumed every morning it was. And about a dozen people, dressed for their various jobs, hovered in what seemed a line like fashion around the counter. Like bee's sent to attack someone who had crushed their nest. or maybe just a group of slaves following their addiction, either way.
She looked at Sango across from her. She seemed aggravated, and a was still a little flush from her brief encounter with the management over making her plain black coffee, they had wanted to add what she called 'fluff' which seemed to extremely upset her. But the encounter had been settled, and Sango had got free coffee.
It had made Kagome laugh, like they were friends and this was an every day occurrence.
Almost as if was natural. But the laugh had broken her heart, and she could feel her insides crumble. Sure, her friends had made her laugh before. And she had always tried to smile. But in all honesty, life had never been anything to smile about. And it hurt her that while people suffered, she could laugh.
She had always thought you were born, to work you way up then to die, stripped of everything, and to be alone. Its the way it worked for her mother, who had been a good woman, caring and understanding. But she had ended up with a daughter she couldn't protect and an abusive husband who had urges that she couldn't control. And if Kagome's mother could end like that, then what would happen to her, someone so worthless.
Sango tapped her phone against the small table in between them, tearing Kagome from her thoughts. The girl had been fidgeting with her phone ever since she talked to Kagome in the alley way. "Do you think they'll spit in my coffee?"Sango's voice was softer and her eye's were focused a little passed Kagome's head. Kagome followed Sango's gaze past her to the two people franticly working to keep up with the orders. "Hmm," she thought about it. "with the way you barked orders at them, I say its 50/50. But they seem a little too busy." She tried to smile, to be polite.
Sango's gaze snapped back to her, Kagome could see the thoughts, the questions that were running though her head behind her eyes. Kagome dropped her eyes, she didn't want to know what Sango thought of her. The girl with dingy clothes, the girl who was pleading for help.
"Sango! Order Up!" someone shouted over the hum of the coffee shop. Saving Kagome from any questions the girl might have asked. Sango sprang up and grabbed both their coffee's and then turned to motion to Kagome to follow her. Sango sighed as soon as they took a step out of the door, "Crowds annoy me," she said handing Kagome her drink, a tall Doubly Chocolate Chip Frappuccino, Granted it wasn't warm enough for it, but chocolate sounded good. Kagome glanced back up. Sango had her lips posed for a question, here it goes she thought. the first round of the integration.
"Do you have family, Kagome?" Sango sipped her coffee and walked what seem to be aimlessly forward while Kagome thought about how to answer. "My mothers dead, I was an only child and my father" she stopped her voice wavered when she said father. He straightened her shoulder, she didn't want to be honest. But she wasn't going to lie. "He's not in the picture." It was kinda true, her real father wasn't. But Mr. Higurashi had been her father for the past ten years, she would keep him a secret for the moment. "And what about friends?" Sango persisted. "A few," There wasn't a reason to lie for this one, "but they would take me back." Sango nodded and then asked anpother question."A boyfriend?" kagome smiled, "Im not that interesting." she muttered. "Anyone to take you in?" Sango's statement was abrupt and from anyone else it would sound like she was trying to get rid of her, but she had something in her voice, something more that lead her to believing this back round check something a little different. Before she could answer the cell-phone in Sango's pocket, the one Kagome never saw her put away, rang. Sango held up one finger to kagome motioning for her to stay there while she walked a few feet away.
Kagome couldn't hear what Sango was saying but it was obvious that the person on the other line, was pissing her off. Kagome tried to make out what she was saying but all she could gather was two bits of a sentence. "Just like Kahoku," and "Dont bother I'm doing this!" SAngo shut the phone angrily and took a step toward Kagome, then seeming to forgot something opened her phone mashed a few buttons and lifted it to her ear, "Miroku, I'm going to need your help." Sango's empty hand went up to kagome's shoulder, and before Kagome could move to avoid the touch her vision became swallowed by the black that had momentarily formed around the edges.
Memories flooded everything she was seeing once again.
"Momma, I don't wanna live there," a six year old Kagome clung to her mothers paint leg while she tried to put the last box into their small mini van. "Kagome were going to," her mother said slightly smiling at the child's attempts. "But I don't wanna! He scurry momma." Her mother smiled patiently down at daughter and picked her up, "One day Kagome, you'll understand. He's a good man, and good men dont come around very often." Kagome could see this was useless and started to cry. "Wee d-d-donn need him momma, we d-donn need hm." her cries were going unheard. She just need to prove it, that this was not a good man, that he was evil. He looked at her funny and wanted her to sit on his lap. he wasn't the good man her mom saw. But her mom was blinded and she couldn't tell that he had something inside of him, something that would kill the both of them. Why couldnt she see, thats all Kagome wanted, is for her mom to really see.
"Now will you try and behave when we get there?" Her mom opened the van door and slid Kagome into the seat. Kagome's cried would do nothing her mom was completely blinded.
Kagome wiped her tears and tried to look presentable. This was not what she wanted.
...
"Kagome, come here." Kagome put down the box looked at Mr. Higurashi who was patting his lap. "I've got a present for you." She stiffened, she didn't want to but her mother had told her to behave. she slowly walked toward him and then sat on his lap her legs to the side. "No no, like this." He moved one of her legs so she was facing him each leg to the side of his waist. "I want to see your face when you open it." This made her uncomfortable. She didn't like it. It wasn't right and something was up against the inside of her leg. Also being this close to him scared her. He handed her a box small in side but longer in with than it was wide. It was neatly wrapped in shinny blue paper. she opened it. inside held a small silver bracelet. "I know you never had a dad, but i'll be a good one i promise." She nodded at his statement. "Thanks Mr. Higurashi." He shifted her closer to him so what ever it was was pressing harder against her "Call me daddy."
