"Gone to Hell" Sighing in bliss, the miko from the future relaxed in the hot springs located near Kaede's hut. It seemed like an age had passed since she'd last had a bath, and truth be told, it felt marvelous. There had been so much stress the last few weeks, the simple act of getting clean made her immensely happy. Naraku was gone, the Shikon Jewel was gone, Inuyasha was... gone. Pain twisted her lovely features as memories flooded her mind, her little moment of peace shattered. Even after all this time together, laughing, fighting, connecting, Inuyasha still chose Kikyo over her. The look in his eyes as he told her of his decision to go to Hell with the dead miko. It appeared as if a huge burden had been lifted from his shoulders. He'd smiled, told her goodbye, and vanished. It made her feel exceedingly foolish for her to wish upon the Shikon, that it would just disappear. She'd done it in the hopes that Inuyasha would stay with her forever and make her his. After all, he'd been hinting at something he wanted to discuss with her for about a week before the final battle with Naraku, but she wouldn't listen. Deep in her heart of hearts, she felt sure that he would take her for his own, instead of the woman she'd reincarnated. A sob threatened to erupt from her throat, yet Kagome forcefully choked it back. No. She'd shed too many tears over that flea-bitten hanyou boy. He'd taken her heart, ripped it to shreds, glued it back together only to tear it up again. She'd never cry over a man again, she vowed to herself. “Kagome, are you alright?” Sango asked, jolting her from her thoughts. The slayer looked at her friend in sadness. She felt such rage towards Inuyasha for hurting her like this, and such sorrow for her near-sister. Truly, now Kagome had no one but herself. Since she'd wished for the Shikon Jewel to disappear, the miko from the future could no longer travel through the well that separated their respective times. She was stuck in the Fuedal Era, forever. “What? Oh! Yea, don't worry about me, Sango. I'm fine, really I am!” Kagome plastered a huge fake smile on her face for her sister's benefit, even though they both knew she was lying through her teeth. She didn't know if she'd ever feel okay again. “Okay, sister. I think I'll go back to the village and lay down. I'm so tired these days!” Despite the dark cloud that hung over them, Sango's joyful smile managed to chase it away. She stood from the water and made her way to the edge, her calloused hand on the small bump of her belly. Miroku and Sango had gotten married, and now they were expecting their first child. Shippo, Kagome's adopted son, lived with them in their moderate-sized hut near Kaede's. On more than one occasion, the two had expressed their desire that Kagome would stay with them, deep down they all knew it wasn't meant to be. Her place was, or had been, with Inuyasha. Now that he was gone and she was alone... “I'll be there in a bit. I want to soak for a while longer.” Worry marred her friend's pretty face. The miko smiled. “I'll yell if anything happens.” Nodding, Sango slowly made her way towards the house she and her husband had, together, smiling and humming under her breath as she went. Kagome watched her go. The slayer would make a wonderful mother. Kagome rummaged through her yellow bag in search of her hot pink iPod. Finding it, she sighed sadly. Only half a battery, and no way to charge it. Just one more modern convenience she would miss dearly. Snugging in the ear buds, she leaned back against a rock and let the music of Gazette run through her, rocking her head back and forth to the epic guitars. She let her miko power flare out, poking and prodding for youkai who might be a threat. What she felt made her bolt upright and search immediately for her clothing. Why him of all people to come here?! “Calm yourself, wench. This Sesshomaru has no desire to see your flesh.” He stood ten feet away, gorgeous and dangerous and oh so untouchable. Moonlight played in his silver hair, reflected in his amber eyes. Eyes like... Angrily, Kagome yanked a t-shirt over her head, and glared at him, her energy spiking in her ire, creating a barrier around her. Sesshomaru merely raised an eyebrow, and flared his own aura at the challenge. Hers died out immediately once his hit and shattered her little barrier. “Just what do you want, Sesshomaru? Now's really not the time.” She stuffed her yellow bag with her possessions and flung it over her shoulder, tapping her foot impatiently waiting for him to respond. “This Sesshomaru requires you for Rin,” he said simply. “Come.” He turned on his heel and started to walk away. “Wait! What? What's wrong with Rin?” Immediately Kagome feared the worst for the daiyoukai's ward. She didn't have a lot of first aid supplies on her, but maybe it would be enough?... “Rin stated a desire to see the wench Kagome. This Sesshomaru is merely fulfilling that desire.” He didn't slow down as he spoke. Huffing, Kagome shot him a glare. If the icy bastard thought she was just going to up and go with him he... Kagome stopped. Why shouldn't she go with him? There was nothing really keeping her here anymore. Sango and Miroku needed each other more than they did her, and soon Shippo would have a little one to play with. Who did Rin have? Jaken didn't count; the lowly imp was a pest and nothing more. A better question struck the young miko: Who did Kagome have? “Alright, Sesshomaru, I'll come with you.” The Western Lord halted, gazed back over his shoulder. She looked so vulnerable and lost, with her head down, ebony bangs hiding her stormy eyes. Idly part of him wondered what the dim-witted half-breed had done to hurt her this time. Another part wanted to wrap her in his arms and comfort her. A growl burst forth at that last thought, startling her. Never, NEVER, would this Sesshomaru allow himself to comfort a HUMAN! roared his brain. Somehow the old witch must be trying to force this on him! No! He only came to her because Rin asked him to, no other reason. “Shouldn't you tell Inuyasha where you are going?” He resumed walking, fuming internally. After several seconds, Kagome slowly followed. “Um, Sesshomaru, Inuyasha went to Hell with Kikyo after Naraku was killed.” The daiyoukai didn't stop this time, and they continued in merciful silence, he threatening to wring the old woman's neck, she wondering what could have caused the icy lord to show a little emotion. The young miko sighed, and turned her iPod up louder. It was going to be a long walk. * * * Hey! Yea, I'm not really sure if I like this chapter or not, I may revise it later on, but I needed to bring those two together...if anyone has any suggestions on how to change it, let me know!
