Several years had come and gone, the children had all grown even after the household was split. Chouyei had left Inutaishou and Sesshoumaru when she learned of her mate's new found love in a human woman. She took Rieka with her, taking her to raise her on her own leaving the males to themselves with Aiyuki. Sesshoumaru had grown distant from his father after learning why his mother had left, why his sister was no longer with them. He kept his distance from him as much as he could, yet he could not give Aiyuki the same treatment as his father, he couldn't bear to push her away after all they had been through. As he had grown in to a young man she had grown in to a young woman, ready to take on a mate and bear children.
On nights that marked the anniversary of her parents’ death she would sneak in and sleep in his room for comfort from the nightmares. As he'd do each time, Sesshoumaru held her close though this time around he kept himself in check, keeping his control. The light hit the young demoness's eyes causing her to groan gently in discomfort. She slowly opened her ice blue eyes, taking in the morning scenery of the room. Sitting up she rubbed the sleep away gently before she looked to the male next to her. She smiled seeing he was still fast asleep, undisturbed by the time of day. Gently her hand reached forward and caressed his cheek while she watched him, though she hadn't known he was simply faking it. The demon prince reached forward pulling her down halfway as he sat up, their lips pressed together in a small chaste kiss.
Aiyuki's eyes widened yet she couldn't help but slowly give in to the kiss. Her eyes closed once more and she pressed her lips against his own, returning the kiss he was giving her. After a moment Sesshoumaru pulled back and sat up completely, watching her as she slowly opened her eyes. A deep blushed tainted her cheeks as she sat up looking down at the futon rather than at him, he smirked.
“Aiyuki?”
“Y-yes Sesshoumaru?” She looked up at him once again, the blush still evident upon her cheeks. She had grown out of calling him by her nickname, but she'd let it slip from time to time.
“What are your feelings towards me?” He asked her, being very serious.
“I..... I.....” She messed with the bottom of her night kimono nervously.
“Aiyuki.” He spoke her name sternly to coax her answer from her. He had approached her with the question several times before but she would always dodge it somehow, this time wasn't going to be the case.
“I love you!” She blurted out after closing her eyes to him. He looked at her a bit surprised from the outburst of her finally straight answer. After a bit he smirked and gently grabbed her, bringing her in to his arms. He tilted her chin up with his fingers and was just about to give her another kiss when a knock at the door broke the moment. Aiyuki quickly jumped up and pressed herself against the wall as Sesshoumaru answered the door.
“What is it?” He glared to the servant that was standing there.
“My lord, your father wishes to see you.” The servant bowed. “Please go to him at once.” He got up and headed toward Aiyuki's room. Sesshoumaru closed his door looked back to tell her but found she had already gone via the window. He shook his head and got himself dressed. The both of them had been summoned to Inutaishou, reasons unbeknownst to them. They both stood before him, waiting his words.
“Sesshoumaru, Aiyuki. I must leave. Ryuukotsei has grown out of hand and I must face him. I want the two of you to await my return.” He stood up having already dawned his armor and weapons.
“What about Lady Izayoi?” Aiyuki asked having known fully well of her existence and condition. Sesshoumaru seemed a little put off by the mention of the human woman, the fact Aiyuki spoke so freely of her made him a little angry.
“She is said to give birth tonight.” Inutaishou walked up to her and pulled her aside. “Aiyuki I want you to promise you'll care for her and the child if anything were to happen.”
“But...”
“Promise me!” He looked in to her eyes and she bit back her tears.
“I promise.” She bowed her head and he gently hugged her.
“You've become strong Aiyuki.” He turned and two servants came out with both of her father's swords. “I give you the sword of shadows, Kageyoku. With it you can destroy anyone who stands in your way.” He handed her the black handled katana first. “It's brother, Kouyoku. The sword of light.” He then handed her the white handled katana. “With this you can bring light to even the darkest of places.” Inutaishou smiled to her and kissed her forehead softly. Aiyuki stared at the swords a moment before she smiled, tying them to her side.
“Thank you.” She reached up and hugged him tightly, getting the feeling she'd never get to see him again. She then quickly took off to her room to gather what she'd need to see Izayoi.
“Father.” Inutaishou gave his son a look before he quickly took off. Sesshoumaru simply glared before he disappeared from the castle to await his father's arrival. Aiyuki had left by this time heading to the palace Izayoi resided in. She quickly landed on the roof tops sniffing out the lady but her eyes widened smelling blood. Running inside she came to Lady Izayoi's room only to find her laying there lifeless.
“Lady Izayoi!” She was about to run to her side when she felt the pain of steel sliding down her back. She stopped and looked behind her to see the samurai holding the blood covered sword. Aiyuki let out a growl and made a move to rush him but gasped feeling the sword penetrate through her chest. She stepped back and fell against the wall, sliding down leaving a trail of blood as she sat upon he ground.
“Vial demon, burn in hell where you belong.” He glared before he walked out of the room, confident that his job was done.
“Sessh... oumaru...” Aiyuki whispered as she waited there, staring at Izayoi's body and listening to the cry of the new born baby hanyou. Sesshoumaru's eyes widened as he turned to the direction Aiyuki was in.
“Aiyuki...” He almost took off running but Inutaishou had made his appearance before him. The wound on his chest was deep, his blood coating the new fallen snow. He was dieing. “Father, I want the Tetsusaiga.” Sesshoumaru glared.
“For what reason? Power?” Inutaishou kept his back to Sesshoumaru as snow began to fall again. “Would you kill me for it?”
“I want it for world conquest.” Sesshoumaru replied, his voice unreserved and bitter.
“World conquest.” Inutaishou repeated. “Tell me Sesshoumaru, do you have someone to protect?” He asked as he transformed himself. He then took off running towards the palace where Izayoi was.
“Foolish waste of time.” Sesshoumaru spat out before disappearing in to the forest, returning home to the Palace of the Moon. Inutaishou continued running, the flea demon Myouga clung to his fur worriedly.
“My Lord! You shouldn't push yourself after the battle with Ryuukotsei!”
“I have to protect her! Besides... I'm not longed for this world.”
“Master!” The dog demon continued running as he got closer to the castle. He stopped on a cliff and let out a loud roar to the full moon. I'm coming Izayoi, wait for me.
It wasn't long until a force as powerful as the wind broke down the walls. Men scrambled and readied to attack the intruding demon. Inutaishou glared before letting out another massive wave from Tetsusaiga. After making sure no one would be in his way he pushed for the main building.
“Izayoi!” He called out before the samurai walked out of the building.
“You're too late demon. I properly took care of the Lady and that female.” He drew out his sword with a slight smirk.
“You killed Izayoi and Aiyuki?!” He growled, his anger rising rapidly.
“Yes, and now you die!” He rushed towards the demon lord but only to lose his arm at a blinding speed. Inutaishou ran passed the man and in to the building determined to get to his human mate in time. “Burn it down along with the mononoke!” The man commanded and the soldiers quickly set it ablaze.
“Izayoi! Aiyuki!” Inutaishou yelled as he ran in to the burning room. He saw Aiyuki against the wall barely breathing and his mate laying upon the ground unmoving while his newborn son cried. He quickly rushed over towards Izayoi and pulled Tensaiga from its sheath. He concentrated and saw the soul reapers clearly before he gave a quick swing over her. The reapers were vanquished and Izayoi slowly opened her eyes.
“My love.” She sat up, holding their son in her arms before she looked over to Aiyuki. She let out a soft gasp seeing the young demoness open her eyes. Inutaishou pulled out a red haori from within his armor and placed it over Izayoi's head before he helped her to her feet. He then brought her over to Aiyuki, kneeling down he grabbed Kouyoku from its sheath and touched the blade against her wounds.
“Lord Inutaishou.” Aiyuki felt her wounds heal completely and watched as the dog demon placed her sword back in its sheath before helping her to her feet.
“Hurry.” He helped Izayoi to run out of the building, Aiyuki followed quickly behind them.
“You damn demons. I'll send you to hell!” The samurai glared having his sword drawn against them. Inutaishou and Aiyuki both got in front of Izayoi, the dog demon had pulled out So'unga while the wolf girl drew Kageyoku.
“Izayoi, you must live.”
“But what about you?” The Lady asked worriedly, holding their son protectively. Aiyuki gripped her sword tightly looking at the samurai with much distaste.
“Inuyasha.” Inutaishou spoke out a name.
“What?” The samurai glared towards them, Aiyuki growled at him in warning.
“That is the child's name.”
“Inuyasha.” Izayoi looked to their baby.
“Now! Go!” He yelled out gripping So'unga in his hands tightly.
“Yes.” Izayoi quickly took off running out of the palace.
“Aiyuki, protect them. Protect Izayoi and Inuyasha for me.” Inutaishou spoke looking to the wolf demon. She looked at him surprised, tears threatening to fall. “Promise me.”
“I promise, I promise to protect them.” She closed her eyes letting her tears fall.
“Get out of here!” He yelled and she quickly took off running after the human woman. The women both made it out safely and turned to watch as the palace slowly collapsed. The baby was still crying in to the night as Aiyuki turned and looked to Izayoi. She then got on one knee and bowed to her.
“Please, allow me to protect you both.” She pleaded to the human.
“If you wish to do so.” Izayoi smiled sadly as she rocked Inuyasha gently in her arms. “What is your name?”
“Aiyuki, my lady.” She stood and looked at the tiny hanyou with a gentle smile. She reached forward and gently tickled his tummy mindful of her claws. When Inuyasha reached out and grabbed her finger she blinked a bit surprised, a blush tinged her cheeks. “He's going to be very strong when he gets older.” She gently took her finger away before she took them to a village where they could stay. Once they were settled in Aiyuki opened the door to head out in to the night.
“Are you leaving, Aiyuki?” Izayoi asked after putting Inuyasha to sleep.
“Yes ma'am. I'll be back in a little while, I just have something to take care of.” She smiled and took off in to the trees heading towards the west. It took her a while but she made it back to the Palace of the moon. Traveling down the halls she could feel the despair, knowing that word had finally reached them and the servants had disappeared. She searched everywhere and finally was able to find Sesshoumaru standing at the open window in his room. She quickly ran over and embraced him, pressing her face against his back. “Sesshoumaru... he's gone.” She cried softly but she felt the prince pry her arms away from him and push her away gently.
“I smell her on you.” He turned and glared at her.
“Izayoi?”
“Don't speak her name in my presence!” Sesshoumaru gave her a deep growl which had her step back a little.
“I have to protect her and Inuyasha! I promised your Father I would!” She looked in to his eyes and she saw it. He had come to despise both the human woman and that half-breed child.
“I don't want you to ever come back here. Go to your own region.” He gave her one last cold hard stare before he turned his back on her. Tears fell down her eyes as she clutched her heart. She grabbed the locket he had given her that rested with in her armor and she tore the clasp as she yanked it from around her neck. Throwing it at the prince she ran out not realizing it had hit him square in the head before clanging to the ground. He looked back to find her gone before he reached down and picked the locket up, his heart slowly icing over. Aiyuki came back to the village to watch over Izayoi and Inuyasha like she had vowed.
