Chapter 2:Home
The next morning the group was up early and wasted no time heading back to the village of Edo. Sango was anxious to restock their supplies and Miroku just wanted a warm place to sleep for a change. It was beginning to start into the fall weather and was starting to get a bit chilly at night. They arrived at the village around noon, and Kagome waited for everyone to get settled before making sure Sango agreed to watch over Shippo for her before heading off to the bone eaters well to go home. It was odd. Inuyasha always got mad when she left, but he usually at least saw that she got to the well safely. Today he was nowhere to be found. Oh well…

“Mom I’m home!” Kagome shouted as she entered the house.
“Oh Kagome, I’m so glad you made it home. Are you going to visit your cousin tomorrow? I’m sure he’d love to see you again.” Kagome’s mom smiled at her while waiting for her hug. “You two were such good friends as children.”
“Yeah mom. I’ll go visit them for a few days.” It sounded too good to be true. She was actually going to go do something normal for once. Visit her cousin, and pretend that demons didn’t exist and that she wasn’t battling a great evil, at least for a few days.
“Great I’ll call and let Shizuru know that you’re coming.” …

The next morning was bright and cheerful as ever in the Higurashi house.
“Kagome breakfast is ready!” Kagome’s mother called.
As Kagome woke she looked to the alarm clock, “Ek” and promptly jumped out of bed. “I’m late!” Kagome rushed through dressing throwing on black jeans and a red tank with a dragon on it. Looking at herself in the mirror she giggled. “Wow, spending so much time with Inuyasha has really affected my style.” she said to herself before running down stairs to breakfast.
“Breakfast is on the table dear.” Kagome’s mother smiled at her as she came down the stairs. “Your bus to get to your cousin’s leaves in an hour.”
“What?! An hour?!” Kagome shrieked before running upstairs to pack.
……
After having just barely made the bus Kagome finally made it to her cousin’s house. Knock, knock…”Shizuru!” Kagome didn’t have to wait long,
Shizuru flung open the door and pulled Kagome into a hug. “Kagome! It’s been forever since I’ve seen you. Wow you grew up nice! I wasn’t expecting those clothes though. What happened to all the pink?”
Kagome laughed. “Ha ha. Well thanks, and I grew up. Just cause I work pink when I was six doesn’t mean I will for the rest of my life.”
“Well don’t just stand out there all day! Come in.” Shizuru waived Kagome in, grabbing her bag on the way in. “I’ll put your bag in the guest room for you. Just make yourself at home. Kazuma doesn’t get home until tomorrow.”
“He’s not here? Where’d he go?”
“Well… he’s staying at a friend’s…” Shizuru was acting a bit funny. “So how are you feeling? I hear you’ve been ill a lot lately. Though you look ok now.”
“I’m good now. Thanks. So is Kuwabara still handing out with that delinquent Yusuke?” and so the chit chat continued through most of the night.
