aaaha….no.
A/N: ok in this
chapter, the story is going to switch back and forth between scenes with Kagome
and Riquo and scenes with Kaede and the others. So the scenes with Kaede will be
in bold and Kagome's will just be regular. Ok thanks and enjoy!
Riquo
opened an eye when she and Kagome finally landed in the future. She was
startled when she suddenly exhaled inig rig rush, not even knowing she’s been
holding her breathe. Kagome glanced at her and laughed.
“Nervous?” she asked, touching Riquo’s arm lightly.
Riquo winced slightly at Kagome's touch. Hell yea I’m nervous! I haven’t been here in
almost two years. Riquo simply smiled and hopped out of the well. She
reached down and pulled up the struggling Kagome.
Kagome sighed when she got to the edge of the well, “I don’t
get it, why am I still having trouble walking? I’m not in any pain,” she
glanced down, “down there…but I still can’t walk.”
Riquo chuckled, “It’s probably your tail. You have to learn
to walk all over again because of the difference in balance,” Riquo put her arm
around Kagome's shoulders and helped her walk up the stairs out of the well
room,” besides, I think walking is the least of your problems.”
Wincing at the reminder, Kagome stopped, “Riquo…can you teach me that
concealment technique? I don’t want my mom to know just yet.”
Riquo shook her head, “It takes a long time to master. Besides, she’s gona find
out eventually…do you want me to go in first and kind of lighten the mood
before you make your grand entrance?” Riquo said smiling.
Kagome smiled and nodded. She and Riquo walked slowly to the
entrance to her house, neither of them being in a hurry to get to the house. It
was a beautiful spring day in modern day Japan,
the sun was shining and everyone was outside enjoying the day. Kagome sighed;
she wished she could join them. She ced ted the few steps to her front door and
stopped, not noticing Riquo as she quietly spazzed.
Riquo’s eyes never fixated on a spot for more than a quarter
of a millisecond. She was nervous and scared and wanted to run back full speed
and dive into the well head first, back to her time and back to Inuyasha. She
breathed in shakily. But I can’t, I have
to help Kagome. Besides, I was born
here! This should be simple.
Riquo placed her hand firmly on Kagome's forearm, “Ready?”
“Y-yea,” Kagome said.
Kagome slowly placed her hand on the doorknob and turned it
partially, pushing on the door and watching as the inside of her house was illuminated
with intruding light.
“I thought you wanted me to go in first,” Riquo whispered.
Kagome shook her head, her black hair swaying in rhythm with
her tail; “No, you’re right. She’s going to find out eventually.”
Back at Kaede’s hut, Inuyasha,
Kouga, Shippo, Miroku and Sango were all gathered around Kaede ae hue hunched
over her crystal ball. Kouga scowled at the sight of his frightened mate.
“I don’t understand,
what is she so afraid of?” Kouga said.
Kaede chuckled
hoarsely, her whole body trembling with the exertion of energy; “Exactly which
one do ye speak of wolf? Kagome or Riquo?”
Inuyasighsighed and Kouga
rolled his eyes, “I know why Riquo is nervous, but I don’t understand why Kagome
is nervous. This is her home, her family.”
Inuyasha snorted, “That’s
the problem. Her family is human. In
case you didn’t notice, Kagome is now a half demon. How do you think her family
is going to react to that? Besides, her grandfather has a weird thing with
trying to place spells on demons so don’t freak if you see an old geezer run
out screaming spells.”
Kouga stared at Inuyasha
for a while. Her family sounds weird. I hope
they at least let her explain.
Kagome stalked through her house, her beige ears twitching
for the sound of her family, Riquo close behind her. Riquo sniffed and tensed
as she smelled someone closing in fast.
“Souta,” Kagome whispered.
No sooner did the word escape her lips Souta came charging
towards her, leaping into her arms.
“Kagome! You’re back!! Mom, Grandpa come quick! Kagome's back!”’
Riquo smiled, chuckling slightly at the boy’s ignorance of
her and of Kagome's appearance. Soon after, Kagome's mother walked into the
foyer, wiping her forehead with her apron.
“Kagome, dear. Welcome back—“
Kagome and Riquo both winced as her mother stared at them. Souta was bouncing up and down next to his mother when he
stopped staring at her.
”Mom what’s wrong? Why are you staring at Kagome—“
Souta, losing his ignorance of the
two demon girls, gaped at them in shock. Riquo slowly stepped forward to stand
next to Kagome, her head lowered so her chocolate hair hid her face and her
tail swaying slowly in between her legs. For once in her life, Riquo was actually
self-conscious of how she looked. If this had been any other person, she would
have her head high and a grin on her face, but for some reason she felt embarrassed
of being a demon. What happened next almost stopped Kagome's heart…
“Oh dear…” said her mother.
Kagome's eyes bulged and Riquo’s head snapped up as she
gaped at the older woman standing before her. Oh dear?! That’s it? Not ‘what the hell is wrong with you?’ or ‘who are
you?’ just oh dear? Man, this woman needs a nap or something.
Suddenly Riquo was jarred from her thoughts as she sensed
someone running towards them.
“STAND BACK! I’LL TAKE CARE OF THE DEMON!”
Kagome's grandfather came barging through the room with
several spells and incantations in his hands. Out of instinct, Riquo took a
step in front of Kagome and growled. Luckily for them all, Kagome's mother
stepped forward to take control of the scene.
“Grandpa don’t. We need to let Kagome
and Riquo talk,” her mother said calmly, placing a hand on grandpa’s shoulder.
Riquo gasped, “You remember me? E-even as
a demon?”
Her mother winked, “Of course darling, ever since I made
that shampoo for you I figured you’d come and visit me.”
Her mother took Kagome's hand and led them towards the
dining room. They all sat on the floor, grandpa and Souta
sitting far away from Riquo and Kagome and her mother, of course, initiating
the conversation with an interesting start.
“So…I bet you’re wondering why you’ve become a half demon,
right darling?”
Riquo gaped at her again and Kagome stuttered over her
words, “I-I…I figured I’d be the one asking that question. How would you know
this would happen to me and why are you so calm?”
Kagome's mother placed a hand over Kagome's hand, running a
finger over one of her claws.
“Kagome, tell me how you became a demon.”
Kagome sighed, “Well it’s a long story. But…there’s this
wolf demon named Kouga in the Feudal Era that I am good friends with. I’ve
known him for a long time and him and I have become
rather close,” Kagome fidgeted, “real close. And the other day, him and I…” Kagome
trailed off from there. She glanced at Riquo for help.
Riquo cleared her throat, “Ms. Higurashi,
your daughter mated with a demon and during it she became a half demon.”
Kagome couldn’t help but smile at Riquo. Riquo looked at her
and winked. Kagome chuckled, I love you,
man. Her grandfather and Souta just stared at
her, trying to figure out if the word mating
may have a double meaning.
Kagome's mother frowned slightly, “You didn’t mate with Inuyasha?”
Kagome winced and Riquo’s eyes widened, “What?!”
Inuyasha smacked his
forehead, “Oh crap.”
Souta joined in, “Yea sis, I thought
you had this big major crush on Inuyasha? So why did you run off and ‘mate’
with some other guy?”
Riquo slowly turned her head to stare at Kagome, her left
eyebrow quirked, “Could you elaborate please?”
Kagome sighed, Mom’s
mad cause I didn’t mate with Inuyasha?! This is way too weird!
“Ok ok, I had this thing for Inuyasha
a while back but I got over that a long time ago! Mom, I figured you’d be mad
because I transformed into a half demon! Not because I didn’t mate with Inuyasha!”
Her mother dropped her head and smiled, “I already know why
you’re a demon sweetheart, and I knew it was bound to happen.”
Kagome and Riquo scooted forward, “Go on…”
Her mother sighed, “Kagome, you do not have the same father
as Souta. A long time ago, a little while before you
were born, a demon came through the well into Tokyo.
I was in college then and for some reason, of all the people in Tokyo,
he found me. Even though I had no clue who he was and he looked strange with
all of his demon looks, I still talked to him and got to know him because
something about him drew me to him and eventually to love him. Do you know what
type of demon he was, Kagome?”
Kagome stared at her, tears in her eyes. She swallowed hard,
“A cheetah demon.”
Her mother nodded, “That’s right. He has no connection to Riquo
because back then the cheetah demon race was a lot larger. Well, him and I got together and I got pregnant with you,” she
said, smiling to herself and blushing, “but he had to go back to the Feudal Era
a month later. Someone was attacking his clan and he had to go and protect
them. Of course I understood and I let him go, and that was my good and bad
choice. He died for his clan, and you lost a father you never knew, “she wiped
away a stray tear from her face, “but I realized that I couldn’t have let him
stay. You see, if your father hadn’t gone off to fight,” Kagome's mother looked
straight into Riquo’s emerald eyes right down to her very soul, “you Riquo,
your clan, your entire species, wouldn’t exist.”
Riquo stared at her, shocked beyond all belief. Now it all makes sense. Kouga’s demon blood
activated Kagome's cheetah demon blood because her father was a cheetah demon! Geez, Kagome lost two fathers, one before she was even
born. Then another thought hit Riquo.
She cleared her throat, “Um, Ms. Higurashi?
How was Kagome's demon traits hidden all of her life?”
“He wanted her to have a normal life in this modern time. He
placed a spell on her while she was in my womb, before he left. He really did
love you, even though he didn’t get to see you.”
Kagome choked the tears back, “So now it’s
all clear.”
Kagome's mother stood and walked over to Kagome, sitting
next to her and wrapping her arms around her, “I’m so sorry dear. I know I should’ve
told you sooner but it was his last wish that you live a normal life.”
Kagnoddnodded, “I understand,” she wiped away the tears from
her eyes, “and I’m not really angry. I just wish I could have met him. What was
his name?”
Her mother smiled, “hu
