Chapter 21: Dauntless
A/N: invulnerable to fear or intimidation.
It was a sleepless night as everyone's minds were on the next day and how they were going to attack the castle of the human Daimyo. Sure Sesshomaru put everyone's mind at ease….well almost. Anything could happen. One of them could be injured. Some (who were being left out) of the battle had complained because they knew 'they could be most helpful'. Of course Sesshomaru was furious-not that he showed it in front of anyone.
He was pacing in his chambers as he thought of the cruel way he was going to destroy the Daimyo limb from limb. He, Sesshomaru would not be merciful. He dare to take his mate from him? Not any ordinary demon's but a Daiyoukai's? What? Did he want a war? Was he hoping that he, Sesshomaru would just agree with it and say fine? that she was human and he made a mistake?
Daichi would be accompanying him along with Sango who said (no demanded that she be included) and he agreed not knowing why he did though. It had not escaped his knowledge/notice that Inuyasha's mate Kikyo went missing a long time ago. Where did everyone's loyalties lie these days?
He was told that Inuyasha would be a good asset (benefit, advantage) to take along and help them but he wasn't so sure. He didn't want Inuyasha out of his jail cell. He frowned as his gaze went towards their bed. Kagome's empty spot. She was always the soft of heart-but this time he'd have to be firm and not look into those blue eyes of hers and soften. What had happened to him? He shook his head and looked outside the window. Sunrise. It was almost time. He was looking forward to this. She better not be injured or have a single scar or mark on her body.
He stopped. Mark. Well he was human…had he been demon he couldn't over-ride Sesshomaru's since he was at the top of the demon hierarchy. Good. He turned to leave his chambers and wondered whether he should see Aika before he left with his group-to see whether she'd give in.
His eyes narrowed. Even had she 'spilled her guts' as Kagome would say/use the term he would still have her killed. How dare she have the audacity to lie to his face, make him look bad-degrade his mate like that, lower herself to mate a human-expecting a hanyou (although he was sure she'd lost the pup) she was still a lady of the royal court and just to get what she wanted?
"Sesshomaru! Morning!" Sango said waving merrily and walking towards him. Miroku shook his head, sighed and followed her. Only she'd be super-excited to go on this journey. After gathering the things they needed, supplies, weapons and eating they left. In the group there was Sango, Miroku, Daichi-although Takeshi had said he wanted to go save her highness—Kirara, palace guards and himself. Inuyasha wasn't invited. He'd be taken care of later.
Miroku had held Sango's shoulder in comfort because he knew she would be upset. She had known Inuyasha for so long and he had been a companion of sorts and it would be hard to see him go. But it was a cruel world…and right now she was in the company of demons.
-Rin's Pavilion-
She watched them leave. She was sure papa Sesshomaru would bring mama back. She held her hands together and prayed that they'd all come back safe. There was a hand on her shoulder and Shippo's green eyes smiled into her chocolate eyes. "Rin-chan. Don't worry. I promise they'll be fine. Let's go to the kitchen and see if they've got sweets to eat or I can use my magic and trick them and we can disappear with them!"
He took her hand and led her out. It was his duty to protect his younger sister and keep her happy. He chatted on how they could visit Ah-Un after this and take a ride on him all over the western lands.
-Inuyasha-
He'd gotten word that they'd left to get Kagome and shook his head saying, "Feh. Sesshomaru. Always trying to act as a hero." Damn but he felt like a fool…and hell these chains were really tight. He wondered if Kikyo would show up and help him out. It really wasn't time for him to die…at least that's what he thought.
"Trying to get out? Do not worry your sentence will be carried as soon young prince." A palace guard said who was walking by.
"Oh fuck off asshole!" Inuyasha said. He was going to get out of this. He'd bet that Aika bitch was getting tortured right now too. She was just a female with desires…as dark as they were. She hadn't been in court long enough-neither had he but Sesshomaru was his brother and siblings knew each other well. He felt sorry for her actually.
One: She didn't know what Sesshomaru was like.
Two: The torture department was like hell-you actually begged for death.
Three: Kagome was involved…..and that Sesshomaru's mate.
Four: Aika might already be dead. Sesshomaru wasn't the patient type and didn't take time to get 'rid' of his enemies.
Five: Again….that Kagome was involved. That meant death to anyone.
He coughed and thought that once he was out of this he'd have Aika join him, Kikyo, Naraku (if he chose to) that Daimyo and take the western lands down. He'd had enough of Sesshomaru thinking he was king of the world.
-Kagome- (walking behind the oblivious Daimyo)
She was plotting. Maybe if she hurt the Daimyo 'where it hurts' and take off? No…she didn't know where she would be going. Damn. And the Daimyo might put her in a cell then. She had to try and get out of this herself. She didn't like playing damsel in distress.
She was surprised though. Was there no one in this castle…wasn't there anyone keeping watch from the west on this place? A hidden demon in disguise to let Sesshomaru know what goes on in here? To share their secrets?
"Hmm…why don't you show me around your castle? If I'm staying then I should know where I am going right?" Kagome said sweetly.
-Borders of human castle-
The group approached the borders to look at the castle from the horizon. "I'm surprised no one's stationed on the borders….they should've picked up there's someone-an enemy-coming." Sango said, grip tightening on her boomerang.
"They're human." Sesshomaru said in a bland voice.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Sango said raising her eyebrow. Not afraid of the tone she used to speak. She knew Kagome would 'purify' him if he did anything to her. Miroku sighed and told them to 'knock it off' and think of what to do instead.
