Chapter 24: Reunion With Kouga

A/N: Kagome decides to go visit her father back at the shrine and takes Amaiya and Tanmaru with her. On the way she encounters Kouga. What will the wolf demon do upon seeing his one time love?
The morning was a beautiful bright one. The birds were chirping loudly and there was light gentle breeze rustling through the trees. The morning sky was a gorgeous pale blue and there wasn�t a cloud to be seen in the sky. Kagome had been awake since the sun had just started peeking over the horizon. She padded softly into the nursery where her two children were still sleeping peacefully. Kagome had dressed in a simple cream colored kimono with a light brown obi and matching brown sandals. She had woven her long thick raven tresses into a single braid that flowed down the middle of her back. She wore a simple silver chain with an amber colored stone hanging from the end of it that came to rest just above her creamy white breasts that were barely peeking out of the top of her scoop neckline of her kimono. Kagome woke her children and dressed them quickly. She dressed Amaiya in a pale yellow kimono with a white obi and left her coffee bean brown hair down to flow freely. She dressed Tanmaru in a red kimono and pant set much like the one his father wore.
She smiled as she looked over her two beautiful children. Amaiya grabbed a hold of her mother�s hand and tugged on it gently. Kagome looked down at Amaiya. �Yes sweetie?�
�Momma go?�
�Yes honey we�re going to visit mommy�s old village.� Kagome swept little Tanmaru up into her arms and held Amaiya�s hand securely. She went downstairs and fetched one of the maid servants. �Yumiko?�
�Yes Lady Kagome?�
�Will you accompany me to my old village?�
�Yes milady.� Yumiko immediately picked up Amaiya and followed Kagome out the front entrance of the large white stone palace. Tanmaru slept mostly since he was still pretty small.iya iya was busy playing with the doll that Sesshomaru had given to her for her birthday. Kagome inhaled a deep breath of the crisp morning air. �Milady?�
�Yes Yumiko?�

�Does Lord Inuyasha know that you are traveling to your old village?�
�Oh uh no, he doesn�t know.�
�Are you certain it�s a good idea to leave without telling him milady?� Kagome frowned at Yumiko.
�I do believe that I am the Lady of the palace and your are the maid servant.� Yumiko bowed her head in respect.
�Yes of course Lady Kagome, please forgive me.� Kagome waved her hand dismissively as if it weren�t important. They small group traveled until they had reached the outskirts of the village. Kagome�s blue gray eyes widened when they caught sight of a huge funnel cloud quickly approaching them. She handed Tanmaru to Yumiko and grabbed her bow and knocked an arrow quickly. The funnel cloud stopped before the small group and began to dissipate immediately. Out of the dust emerged Kouga. Kagome immediately let her guard drop a little. Kouga stared at Kagome with wide unblinking sapphire blue eyes.
�Kagome?�
�Kouga?� Kouga carefully approached the raven haired maiden.
�Kagome, it�s me Kouga, you can put away your arrows now.� Kagome replaced her arrow in her sachet and her bow back over her shoulder.
�Hello Kouga, it�s been a long time. How have you been?�
�I�ve been well. What happened to you Kagome? It�s like you just disappeared or something.�
�Oh yes, I sort of did. I was kidnapped by Lord Inutaisho and given to his youngest son Inuyasha.�
�So did you finally manage to escape?�
�Oh no, I am Inuyasha�s mate now and we have two children.� She gestured towards Yumiko who held the two young children. �These are my children, Amaiya and Tanmaru.� Kouga�s blue eyes grew wide as he looked at the two young children.
�You are mated to Inuyasha now? But I thought that you had accepted my proposal to wed you Kagome?� Her cheeks turned a bright shade of crimson at his words.
�Kouga, that was a long time ago. I was only six when you asked me to marry you. I was a little girl and you were nothing more than a little boy as well. I have grown up now and so have you.�
�Yes but that doesn�t change the fact that you promised to marry me Kagome.�
�Oh Kouga, I made that promise as a child not fully understanding it. Besides I would not be wed to Inuyasha if his father had not kidnapped me. I was a miko remember?�
�Yes I remember. You�ve grown into a beautiful woman Kagome.�
�Thank you Kouga. You have become a handsome man as well and will make a fine mate for a very lucky woman.�
�Thank you for your kind words. Would you like me to escort you to your village to make sure that your journey is a safe one?�
�That would be most kind of you Kouga.� Kouga grinned and offered his arm to Kagome. Kagome took it and let him lead the way to her old village. The small group reached the village and Kouga stopped.
�This is where my journey ends. They don�t take too kindly to full demons entering the village.�
�Thank you again Kouga, take care of yourself.� He nodded and soon left. Kagome Yumiko and the two children headed towards the old shrine. Kagome pushed open the heavy wooden door of the shrine and walked inside followed by Yumiko with the children still in her arms. Kagome took little Tanmaru from Yumiko and padded towards the back of the shrine. A priestess stopped them before they reached the living quarters of the shrine.
�Who are you?�
�I�m Kagome, my father is a monk here at the shrine.�
�Kagome? Oh Kami, you�ve returned! Let me go fetch your father!� The priestess ran quickly to get Kagome�s father. Soon an elderly man with graying hair entered the room and his old brown eyes lit up when they landed on Kagome.
�Oh Kagome! My daughter, you�ve come home!� The old man drew Kagome into his arms immediately embracing her. Kagome felt tears sting her eyes as she hugged her father. He pulled back from her to look at her. �My you have become quite a beautiful young woman Kagome. Who are your friends?�
�Oh yes, father this is Yumiko my maid servant. These are your grandchildren Amaiya and Tanmaru.� He looked at the young children and could immediately tell they were not completely human.
�Kagome, these children are part demon, why have you brought them here?�
�To see their grandfather.�
�So you have lain with a demon then?�
�Uh yes, not by choice at first but then I fell in love with him. His name is Inuyasha and he is only half demon. We have two children together and I couldn�t be happier father.�
�Oh Kagome, it disappoints me to see that you have had children with a demon even if he is only half demon. I wanted so much better for you. You were supposed to live the simple life of a miko and take over protecting the shrine when I left this world. Now you cannot for your miko aura has been tainted by inviting a demon into your bed.�
�Father, I love Inuyasha, I will not be ashamed of that! How can you be so cruel as to turn me away?�
�Because you have disgraced me Kagome, you allowed a demon to take you to bed and you carried his children within you as well. It is dishonorable. You may not be permitted to stay in the shrine now Kagome.�
�Are you telling me to leave?�
�I�m afraid you have to leave at once Kagome, you are no longer of pure spirit. I�m sorry Kagome.�
�Fine. I will never return to this village again father, this shall be the last time you ever see me or your grandchildren.� He bowed his head and watched as Kagome left with her children. As they walked out the door and into the front gardens of the shrine a priestess with long raven hair and chilling brown eyes watched them with interest. A hateful smile formed on her lips as Kagome and her children left the shrine. The priestess�s red miko pants billowed gently in the light breeze as she watched the former miko and her half breed children leave the shrine.
She spoke quietly to herself as her cold brown eyes followed Kagome. � So the ever perfect Kagome has lain with a demon and bore his children? Ha! It makes me happy to see that she has brought such disgrace upon her father. Perhaps now he shall realize that the shrine should be left in my care. I shall pay Kagome a visit to see for myself that she has truly dishonored her father.� Her hate filled brown eyes narrowed as she stared at Kagome with a look of sheer malice etched into her beautiful features.
