Android Seventeen will fall out of a temporal rift and land in 1555 Japan, but the enemies that he makes after that will all be human, not youkai. He'll meet Sesshoumaru in a different way, too, and Kagura will be dead as per the manga storyline and return to life at a later time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Battlefield 1542
Chapter ?
Somewhere near present-day Tokyo, 1542 CEThe darkness of a snowy night shrouded the Japanese countryside, the only visible light being that of the guide torches attached to the outer walls of the wooden villages that lay about. A thousand feet up in that freezing night air, a crackling sphere of pasty blue light exploded into existence, with no warning of its impending arrival. A lone object materialized within it.
It was Eito Hakari's free-falling body.
As the energy cloud flickered and faded into nothingness,the android fell through the sky, his body tumbling end for end many times over. Shoving his weight in the direction opposite that of his rotation, Eito regained his bearings and to his horror, he caught sight of the fast approaching trees. He was a durable being, but without using some of his energy and hence causing him the pain of severe skin burns, the sharp, strong branches would shred him like a sheet of damp tissue paper. Closing his eyes and swallowing all of the inhibitions that the pain of the Electromagnetic Theory had brought him, Eito gave a blast of neon-green ki to counter his fall. He cried out in the night sky as searing heat shot his legs, but silenced as he plummeted into the pine canopy, causing the ripping crack of numerous branches to report with strong reverb.
Seconds later, Eito discovered himself to be hanging by his coat from the branch of a rather flimsy pine tree. The branch snapped under his weight.
He fell fifty feet more before slamming shoulder first through a snow bank and down to the forest floor, instantly breaking his left arm in the process. However, as bloody smoke was rising from the numerous holes in the leggings of his battle trousers, he did not really notice the wrenching sensations in that appendage. All he could focus on were his legs and the sickening smell they emitted. Weakly, he rolled onto his back and pulled up both pant legs, confirming his fears. Most of the flesh had simply worn away from his own body heat, revealing Geiger-esque patterns of bone shell and black muscle, giving off wisps of thermal smoke in the chilled atmosphere. A realization then struck the infirmed android.
Cold.
He was lying up to his chest in pure snow, giving him exactly what he needed to dull the pain. Frantically, he shoved his exposed legs into the cold, white fluff, and his breath hitched and his eyes drooped at the relief that flooded him. The pain would soon be gone, and the skin would soon regenerate itself. Sitting up, he contemplated his arm. It would take a full day to reconstitute itself, provided he could realign the bone. Using the backside of the thumb of his opposite hand, he felt through thick jacket cloth up and down his left upper arm, searching for the fracture. With a grimacing hiss, he found it with certainty. He clenched his teeth, drew his hand back, and slammed his own fist into the fault line of bone, pushing the arm back into place, though not without much agony. Finished with the makeshift repair, he pulled off the left side of his coat and tucked his injured arm across his stomach, inside his armor vest, as the elastic in it would make a decent sling.
It was then time to figure out just where and when he was. Without knowing what Vegeta and Bulma were planning for Goku, he could be anywhere, anytime. Worse, he realized that he hadn't seen them come through the energy portal, meaning they might not even be in this time period at all. Time machines were such annoying devices. The reborn Seventeen stood up and sighted a clearing through a group of dead trees. Walking to it, he saw it to be a frozen lake, and raised his eyebrows in approval.
"A frozen rice paddy. I am still in Japan, at least."
Eito's ears picked up the sounds of several men shouting, and by the volume, they weren't too far away.
"I'm telling you, Lieutenant, I saw something in the sky!" one said.
"Well, you might have excellent sight for an inu-youkai, but that doesn't mean you can't imagine things. We don't have time for this, because the execution is in a few hours, and pissing off a demon lords, particularly crazy ones like Shyushu, is not an admirable idea!"
Eito dropped down to the ground behind the nearest tree before the two white-haired men could spot him. They wore black pants, boots, kimonos, and polished steel armor. They were soldiers, and rather archaic ones at that, as their only weapons were hip-mounted katanas. Nevertheless, if they were hostiles, the android soldier would be at a distinct disadvantage, because his Colt Anaconda only had five shots left, and with his wounded arm, hitting anything with measurable accuracy would be difficult.
Looking rather impatient, the captain gave an inhuman snarl and jabbed his subordinate in the arm.
"Come on, let's go. There's nothing here."
Eito poked his head out slightly from the cover of the pine tree. The two white-haired, pointed-eared soldiers were leaving, walking away into the forest. The android was caught completely off guard when an angry voice yelled to him from behind.
"Hey! Who the hell are you? Lieutenant! I've got an intruder over here!" the newly arrived third soldier shouted, drawing an arrow into his bow.
Eito held up his free arm in surrender.
"Wait! Do not shoot!"
The other two inuyoukai burst out of the forest, just behind Eito.
"Who are you?" the lieutenant demanded angrily, drawing an inch of his katana from it sheath.
"I am just passing through."
"No, you are a stupid ningen trespassing on the land of the demon lord Shyushu!
The demon soldier accompanying the lieutenant cackled in amusement.
"Well, if it's just a human, we could kill it and nobody would care, would they?"
The lieutenant grinned, baring his fangs for Eito to see.
"Yeah.....we could."
With that, he drew his katana completely from its sheath and hunkered down into a lunge-ready battle stance. Eito responded with a lightning-fast twitch of his right arm, which resulted in the .44 caliber barrel of his pistol coming to aim at the exact center of the nearby archer's forehead.
"Try it, and Rambo here goes MIA" Eito said, his voice calm and unwavering, total conviction highly evident.
From a place high up in the trees, yet another silver-haired warrior observed the standoff and decided that his men stood a good chance of getting themselves killed. He leapt away from his perch in an invisible twitch of speed, streaked down through the air, and brought two gloved, interlaced hands down on the top of Eito's skull, sending his crashing to the ground in an unconscious heap. The lieutenant jerked in shock at the surprise attack, then recognized the attacker.
"Capta----!"
The belligerent dog-demon catapulted backward onto the ground from the concussive force of the Captain's right fist. The ranking officer was not pleased with him.
"You stupid fuck! I have had enough of your thoughtless aggressiveness!"
The captain's youki swirled around him as bright red flame, exactly matching the color of his uniform. He leapt forward to stand over the subdued lieutenant, drawing his sword, flipping it end for end, then shoving it through the hollow of the grounded dog-demon's collarbone, literally pinning him down. The lieutenant writhed on the ground and clawed at empty air, then gradually stilled, death overtaking him while warm, black, dog demon blood spilled out of his mouth, down his cheeks, and onto the snow below him. Finished with his kill, Shyushu's guard leader performed an about face and gave the remaining soldiers a chilling, terrifying statement.
"The next one that fights without thinking shall have his own heart force-fed to him."
The two dog-demons turned ghost white. The captain would certainly stay true to his word. Passively, the tall, muscular dog-demon captain walked to Eito's unconscious body and flipped him over with his foot, so that he lay on his back.
"You idiots could have started a war just now. This may be one of Sesshoumaru's, though his clothing is odd."
"B....but he's a human!" the dead dog-demon's aide said.
"I wouldn't put it past Sesshoumaru to use humans in his army. He did make one into his bitch."
The captain ran a hand through his neatly tied-back, waist-length, ivory white hair, growing thoughtful.
"Sesshoumaru-baka is scheduled to meet with Lord Shyushu tomorrow afternoon. We will present this stupid human to him and see if he twitches. It is doubtful, though, as the bamboo stick up his ass has a bamboo stick up its ass."
"What about Ryo, Captain Daisuke?" the archer asked, pointing to the dead demon's body.
"Leave him. Let's return to the castle, I need to check on the prisoner."
Daisuke leaned down, gripped the back of Eito's jacket collar, then held him up, his feet dangling a full foot off the ground. This certainly was an odd one. Eito's clothes were unlike anything Daisuke had ever seen, and his armor was made of some soft, pliable material, not steel or any other kind of metal. The thing that caught the demon's attention most, though, was foot-long metal thing that hung loosely from the unconscious ningen's hand. It was clearly designed to fit one's palm, though it's function was unclear. It had to be some sort of a weapon, though, because the intruding human certainly aimed it like one. Daisuke shook his head and slung Eito over a shoulder and trudged off toward Shyushu's castle, with his petrified comrades in tow.
Some time later, the group arrived at the snowed-over ridge that overlooked Shyushu's castle, a giant tower surrounded by a giant, circular timber wall and assorted smaller buildings. Daisuke and company descended the ridge and turned away from the castle, instead walking toward a deep ditch cut into the ground. At the very bottom, a heap of snow had collected on top of a wooden door recessed deep into the earth, almost like a cellar. The demon captain set Eito down and pulled hard on the door's handle, revealing a deep, dimly lit pit, filled with three feet of water. Daisuke reached to the left side of the door and retrieved a lit torch, protected from the biting snow by a curved metal cover. He searched the shadows and saw a dark shape huddled up against a corner of the watery prison and smiled, for the prisoner had not escaped nor even moved in the time he was gone. Grabbing Eito by the collar once more, he threw the the sleeping android into the dark recess, causing a loud splash to echo off the dirt walls and a a plume of chilly water to leap up. The door slammed shut soon after, and the demon trio left.
Her crimson red eyes watched Eito as he fell into the cold water. He was unconscious and could quite possibly drown if left unchecked, and she didn't feel like being alone. Weary from long periods of inactivity and the numbing cold of the torturous water, she sloshed through across the makeshift dungeon to the body that floated face-down. Snaking an arm underneath him, the condemned woman turned Eito over onto his back, allowing him to breathe once more, though he remained dead to the world. Through the little light that shone through the quarter-inch wide slits in the thick wooden door, she could make out the outlines of his face. He had rather long black hair, almost as long as her own black locks if let down from its tie, and wore a white bandana around his forehead, with a red circle in the center. To her intrigue, his left arm was buried underneath a thick vest, almost looking like a sling one would use for a broken arm.
Eito's face remained uncontorted as he lay in the woman's arms, appearing to her as almost angelic. He looked young, in his twenties or so, and he very well could be, because one didn't need to have lived a long time to be able to viewed as an enemy by the insane Shyushu and his lapdog Daisuke. She gathered her strength and pulled with all her might to bring her new cellmate up against the nearest wall, but discovered that the man was deceptively light. She also discovered that her numbness, incredibly, was fast fading, due to the amazing heat that the man was giving off. She pressed the back of a hand against one of his cheeks, and felt wonderful warmth flood it. This man was like a human furnace!
Shoving Eito into a sitting position against the wall, the woman straddled his lap, for the dual purpose of staying warm and keeping him from falling forward or to the sides and into the water. She wrapped both arms around his waist and nuzzled her face into his neck, sighing softly at the wonderful heat she was soaking up from him. Almost immediately, she gently closed her eyes and fell asleep right in Eito Hakari's lap, feeling his warm, steady pulse against her nose.
They stayed like that for the rest of the night. Over the course of it, the snow subsided in its frigid assault, and by morning, the land of central Japan shone brilliant, blinding white in the bright sun. Then, Eito awoke.
His whole body ached. His arm, though well supported, had not completely healed, and the fusion of the bone fracture remained incomplete. His legs were slightly sore from the energy burns, and his head rang from the surprise attack he had fallen prey to earlier. However, two sensations confused him. His legs, and his whole lower body for that matter, were soaking wet. He was sitting in stomach-high water. Also, a strange, warm weight lay on his chest. Eito opened his eyes and saw a few beams of sunlight shooting through a large door in the ceiling of the strange, watery room. He then looked down and found his face buried in a wet mass of raven black hair. He inhaled through his nose in surprise, then calmed, for he found the scent to be rather pleasant. It smelled faintly of raspberries and the warm summer wind of the Sea of Japan. He pulled his head back and looked around the mop of wet hair to see who or what it belonged to. He blushed, for sitting snugly in his lap was a stunningly attractive woman. She wore three kimonos, one green, one blue with flowered print, and a thick, white one with violet stripes running along the entire outer surface, all three tied off by a woven sash of yellow cloth. Her ears were odd in that they were tapered to a fine point, like the elves in various fairy tales. Suddenly, her blood red eyes opened to meet his own startled, green orbs, and she quietly asked of him a question.
"Do you always smell every girl you're near?"
Eito blushed even deeper and came back with a retort.
"Do you always sit in the lap of every boy you're near?"
She laughed softly.
"No, but you were nice and warm, so why not?"
"Then it seems we are at odds. What is your name?" Eito asked.
"Kagura. And you?"
"Eito."
"Eito, would you be flirting with me, by chance?" Kagura asked, her voice low and seductive.
The android knew that this Kagura was playing with his mind, and he decided to take the battle to her. He slipped his good arm around her waist and took in the pleasing scent of her hair once more.
"What else should a man do with an intelligent and beautiful woman?"
"He should help her escape her captors" she suggested, amused that he was playing along.
"Aha! You were just sweet-talking me!" Eito proclaimed drawing away from her.
"Well, yes..." she confirmed, snuggling a bit closer into his chest, putting some unwanted pressure on his injured arm.
Eito squirmed away slightly and looked off torward the farthest wall, then grunted his dismissal of the idea.
"Well, you do not need to. If you would like my help, all you need do is ask, nothing more" Eito stated.
"So you'll help me get out of here?" Kagura asked, her red eyes full of expectation.
"Only if you help me with the same problem........" Eito replied, a slight smile on his face.
"Allright, I accept. I am scheduled to be executed in a few short hours. That is the best time for us to try to get away."
"Executed? What have you done to earn such a sentence?"
"I am rather well-known to the guard soldiers in these parts, though not of my own hand. It has brought me much trouble, such as this dank imprisonment." Kagura said, scoffing at the thought of Naraku's ridiculous saber-rattling.
The two jolted when the sound of a lock coming undone echoed through the wooden door. It opened up, flooding the watery dungeon with light. Both Eito and Kagura groaned at the increase in brightness, earning a loud laugh from Daisuke.
"Well, well, well, Kagura. You've known him for eight hours and ALREADY you whore yourself to him!"
Eito looked up at Daisuke and frowned. Kagura seemed to be something of a tease, but a whore? No, she seemed to have too much pride in herself for anything even close to that. He had a feeling that not even the most important of men had not touched her, giving a certain part of his psyche a morale boost. A ladder slipped down the wall and Daisuke beckoned for both prisoners to climb up.
"Sesshoumaru will be early. Your executions shall be presented to him. You, Kagura shall die first."
Kagura's eyes widened. Sesshoumaru was here? He was going to watch her die? Two parts of her soul cried out, one in hurt, and the other in rage, making her polarly ambivalent toward the whole thing. Ten years were, all in all, just a drop of water in the deep, deep ocean of a demon's lifespan, but they could have a profound effect on the relationship between two such beings.
"Well, let's get on with it. We can't keep two demon lords waiting, can we?" Daisuke harped.
Reluctantly, Kagura climbed up the ladder and the demon captain forcefully snatched her up by the arm, causing her to yelp. His assistant then slammed a pair of iron shackles over her hands, shoving her into the arms of another inuyoukai soldier. Eito climbed up too, but angrily swatted Daisuke's arm away, earning him a swift knee to the stomach, then a staunch kick to the jaw. After just two blows Eito became a writhing mass on the ground, groaning as his head rung with the aftershocks of a well-placed kick. A tiny stream of clear fluid ran from a corner of his mouth, and Daisuke laughed at the pathetic sight before him.
"Look at him! He's drooling, just like any stupid human would!" he said, the other two dog demons laughing along with him, while Kagura grimaced in sympathy.
The fluid was not drool. It was an android's artificial blood.
"Speak for yourself, jackass. It seems that someone set off an albino bomb without my knowledge, and you are one of the idiots that managed to survive" Eito hissed, pulling himself into a kneel while a mocking grin wrought itself across his face.
Daisuke's men stopped laughing immediately, and Daisuke himself gave Eito another hard kick, this time to the collarbone. Furious, he picked up the now coughing Eito Hakari and tossed him into the free-handed dog demon's arms, right next to Kagura.
"Take them inside to the room next to Shyushu's den and hold them there until Sesshoumaru arrives" Daisuke barked.
The raging dog demon soldier glared at Eito as his troops led him away. Even if Sesshoumaru didn't know the insolent ningen fool, he was make damn sure he didn't leave the castle alive.
