Tokyo University
"Are you sure you want to do this, Hana-chan?" Obita Higurashi asked his daughter once more. "You are barely recovering from that terrible incident last spring. I worry that this environment will frighten you, my lovely daughter."
Hana Higurashi, the youngest miko born to the Higurashi family and only one left alive now after her grandmother's departure, looked over to her father. With a smile, she touched his shoulder and shook her head. "I'll be fine, otousan. I promise." She lied of course, but she couldn't be afraid for her entire life.
Since she turned twelve years old, her powers as a miko were slowly rising, but not enough to practice upon. It was her grandmother who told her about how to come into contact with her powers. The tell-tale sign of taboo was losing the innocence of her soul, meaning giving up her virginity would be the quickest way of gaining her full powers as a miko. Because of the overwhelming powers, it was forbidden among their family to lose their virginity for fear of losing control and harming everyone around them.
As Hana slowly practiced and began her training to gain her powers through the hard way, to assure control and discipline, she never saw the quicker way coming to light. Who would have thought that coming home from her job last spring would have caused her to be a victim of rape and theft.
Luckily they caught the culprit, but for months she was terrified of her new powers and the outside world. It was how she lost her grandmother, when she tried to help Hana control and slowly lock away some of her powers again. It took everything in the old woman to even help her granddaughter seal away part of it, but it wasn't enough…
After that cold week of losing the only person who understood her, Hana trained her hardest day and night at the family shrine. She mediated and practiced each and every day to control her powers until she finally was able to not harm her father's own aura with her own.
It was an exciting day when she managed to be around her close friend Tatsu Taisho who was in fact a yokai. For the longest while, she was never able to be around a certain few of her friends because of her powers. Even with Izayoi and Sonya was difficult since they were closer to being spiritual than regular humans.
Now, 20 years old and able to control her powers, she was able to start the new semester of college with her friends. This was the greatest achievement, as well as finally letting go of the fear of her rape.
"I worry about you. You know you can go back next year to college. I don't mind." Obito continued to worry. It was his job as a father to worry about his daughter.
"Please otousan, I will be alright. I need to do this." She smiled over at him.
Sighing, he gave in and nodded at his little girl as he finally drove up to the university. "Are you sure you want to live in the dorms? You can still live at home and still come to school." He stated, still trying to have his little girl in his sight, always.
Chuckling, Hana shook her head. "I'll be alright. Besides, my friends will be with me always. I'll visit weekends and holidays, I promise." She smiled, opening the door to the car and heading to the trunk to pull out her bags and certain appliances.
Tagging along, Obito went to help and placed some of the lighter things on the roller suitcases to help make the move easier. "I just don't feel comfortable leaving you alone here." He again repeated.
"Otousan, I'll be alright. If I am not worried, you shouldn't be more worried." She sighed.
"That's the problem, you worry too less which means I must worry more for you." Obito sighed.
"Just come on. I want to hurry before Sonya decides to take the best part of the room." She smiled, dragging along her two roller suit cases and watching her father holding a few other things.
"Sonya will be your roommate?" He asked as they made their way up a ramp and into one of the dorms.
"Her and Izayoi are going to be my roommates. And Ryuu and Tatsu are going to be in most of my classes as well as Izayoi, Akira and Sonya. I'll be fine here papa. I have friends here with me that I trust and I know will protect me no matter what." Hana finally stated firmly with a tight lip smile.
Sighing, he rolled his eyes and nodded. "Alright, alright." As they made their way into the dorm that held her room, they walked down the hall and turned to their third right until they finally found the room number. Smiling, his daughter looked over to him and opened the door to be greeted with Sonya and Izaiyo already making themselves comfortable and at home.
"Oh man! I was hoping I would beat you guys here first." Hana smirked as she brought her bags in and set them by the door. Smiling brightly, she looked between Izayoi and Sonya. Both with incredibly long, black straight hair and light brown eyes. They were both equally beautiful, and Hana had to admit, she envied their dark color hair. Squealing, they all finally smiling and gathered into a group hug.
"Oh my gawd, I missed you so much!" Sonya sobbed, feeling overly emotional.
"Sonya, you promised not to cry!" Hana snickered, hugging her friend tighter before finally letting them each go. "I've miss you so much."
"I know I promised I won't cry, but it's that time of the month and everything is making me cry." Sonya confessed making Obito in the opposite side of the room extremely uncomfortable. "Oh crap! Forgive my rudeness, Higurashi-san!" She bowed, apologizing for her rash statement earlier.
"It's alright Yukimura-san." He bowed back than finally turned to his daughter. "Are you sure you will be alright?"
Smiling, Hana nodded and walked over to give him a tight, confident hug. "I will be alright, papa. Just don't worry so much."
Sniffling, Obito nodded and held his daughter tightly for reassurance. Holding back the tears, he finally let go of his little girl and looked between her and the other girls. "If anything happens, call me." He stated firmly.
"Will do!" Both Sonya and Izayoi nodded and bowed.
Smiling, he finally left them to be. Turning around, Hana looked between both her friends and grinned. "So, what have I missed all summer?"
Grinning back, Sonya was the first to go. "Akira slapped Sakura at the mall last month. It was the big talk of the month no doubt."
"She deserved it. After all the terrible things she did to us in high school, it was bout time she had some public humiliation done to her." Izayoi nodded, still feeling a bit odd about the whole ordeal. It was more like she was trying to convince herself that someone had to be slapped for their crimes. Either way, she refused to give in to her humanity on this one. Sakura and the Royal Flowers all needed their fair share of embarrassment.
"Was she alone?" Hana asked, impressed yet scared for Akira's life.
"Of course. If Miyo or Kirai saw that happening, Akira would have gotten beaten up by those mean bratty ladies." Sonya rolled her eyes. "I swear, Miyo, Kirai, Sakura and Misaki just need to have it coming and maybe then will they be nicer people."
"I highly doubt that. Miyo will die if she was to ever get embarrassed. I am sure the same goes for the other three too, except Sakura." Hana stated. "But enough about them, what else has been happening?"
"Take-kun is being engaged to Miyo-san. His father just announced it during their last family get together with all of us present. He isn't too happy about that at all." Izayoi frowned gently, keeping her gaze to the ground. Her heart breaking all over again at the news of her crush being married off like some cheap toy. It was unfair in her opinion.
Gasping at the news, Hana looked over to Sonya and Izayoi with fright. "That's terrible. Can't he just refuse?"
Sonya just chuckled and shook her head. "Sadly, no. We don't really have to worry about that dilemma but the Taisho family does. Along with a few other families who still do arrange marriages. It's more of a security contract than love at first sight. Since Take-kun is the sole heir to not only to his father's company and money, but also the yokai society."
"That just seems awful though. Why Miyo?" Hana frowned as they came to a stop at the corner of the street.
"She proves to be worthy enough in Takayuki Taisho's eyes. She deems powerful enough to carry pure inu-yokai pups and she also comes from a well-known family. She's just plain perfect in Taisho-sama's eyes." Izayoi finished off, trying to keep her emotions at bay.
"Gosh that is just terrible." Hana sighed, trying to still make sense of all this.
"Well enough about us, what about you? How have you truly been?" Sonya asked with a gentle smile. Placing her hand on Hana's shoulder, she looked into her eyes with deep concern in hope that her friend truly recovered from that terrible incident last spring.
Tensing at the mention of how she was doing, Hana wasn't sure how to truly answer that question. She thought she was doing great, but the sudden touch from her dear friend Sonya made her tense in fright. Clearing her throat to not make her friends truly worry, she smiled and patted Sonya's hand. "I'm getting back to myself, and that's all that counts. I even know how to control my powers better as well."
"That's good, because Ryuu and Tatsu have both been wanting to hug you when they see you." Izayoi chuckled lightly, covering her mouth with her palm.
Laughing along, Hana nodded and looked over at her two best friends. "And hopefully this time I won't hurt them either."
Irate. Anger. Betrayal.
All those just weren't enough for him to express what he truly felt. Right now, he was sure that if someone looked at him funny he would rip them to shreds with just his hands. This just wasn't his time to be happy - not when being engaged to Miyo Oshiro.
Clenching his hands into tight fists, he continued to stare at the empty desk that belongs to his dear father. He was going to refuse this marriage, even if it meant losing everything in the process.
Suddenly, a click in the background alerted his attention. Not bothering to turn around to see who it was, he relied on his other senses to tell him - sadly it wasn't his father.
"What are you doing here, Tatsu-kun." He asked his younger brother, by only fifteen minutes.
"Kaa-san is worried about you, nii-san. She wasn't sure where you ventured off too, but she feared you might be in father's private study." Tatsu stated, looking at his twin brother.
Take brought his amber gaze up to meet those very similar to his. Twins - if only they looked similar they would pass off as each other any day, but their hairs and markings always gave them away. While Take-kun had white silver hair and blue demon markings, his brother had black hair and violet markings. Tatsu looked liked their loving mother.
And Take looked like the one man he hated most in his entire life - his father.
"Tell mother I will not leave this room until I have word with Otousama." He stated, lacing the last words with venom.
"You will wait for a long while than nii-san. Otousan went out of town and won't return until the big event this coming Friday." Tatsu frowned, looking at the rage being revealed more and more in his brother's expression and eyes. "Come, nii-san. Kaa-san worries."
"That bastard would leave after making such an announcement last night." Take snarled, rising from the uncomfortable chair and turning to leave out the room.
Watching his brother leave, Tatsu turned to look at the empty chair behind the desk. Sighing, he walked over and touched the intimidating furniture and whispered out. "Why torment my brother?" It will never be answered, and this he understood but he still wondered why. When will his brother have happiness? When will he be free from this all?
The day so far was nerve-wrecking. She wasn't sure if she was going to be able and handle the first day of college - even with her friends so close to her the entire time. The anxiety of being around so many people left her wanting to run far away in tears for fear that something terrible was going to happen.
Focusing on the journal before her, she was oblivious to the hand on her shoulder that made her almost jump five feet away from the person. Catching herself before looking like a fool in front of ninety plus students, she caught her breath at the sight of Akira Fujimoto and Takano Taijiya.
"Are you alright there?" Akira smiled in a whisper as she tried to help sooth her friend.
Shaking her head, Hana quickly rose from her seat and left the classroom, ignoring the professor's voice calling out to her. Making it out the room, she finally took in a couple deep breaths and felt the tears stinging her eyes. It wasn't long until she felt two large arms wrap around her but instead of harming her - she felt comfort in them.
Who else had this power to calm her completely? Who else was able to sooth away the nightmares without her getting nervous? Looking up, she met Takano's dark blue eyes and smiled. "Thank you, nii-san." She whispered, using the term brother that she had always used for him since secondary school.
"Are you going to be alright?" He smiled while looking up to see Akira coming out to join them.
"No. I think I need some fresh air." Hana answered honestly.
"Alright. We can do that." Akira smiled, touching Hana's shoulder as Takano released her so they could walk to the outside court yard. "Should I call Ryuu-san? Let him know we might be late to lunch?"
Shaking his head, Takano replied back. "Do you want to make him worry and than have him come here and make Hana even more nervous?" He smirked, looking over to Hana.
"What's that suppose to mean?" Hana glared.
Akira was the one to put the two together and smile devilishly. "When were you going to tell me this information, Hana-san?"
"What information?"
"That you get all nervous around Ryuu. Can't be cause he's a dangerous man. The guy won't even hurt a fly." Akira grinned.
"I don't know what you are talking about." Hana denied, walking over to one of the benches by one of the dozen blossom trees surrounding the large court yard. "I don't get nervous around Ryuu-san."
"Sure you don't. You get all shy and blushy when the guy even steps in the room." Takano smirked, sitting beside his best friend. "I can tell him, and let him know we will have lunch here."
"No!"
Akira tried to hide her grin even more at the protesting Hana. "I can go find him and let him know we will have lunch here instead." She smirked and winked over to Hana who completely turned red at the thought of seeing her long life crush.
"Nah, we should probably wait until Hana feels somewhat better. Can't have a risk factor here, especially if the Taisho brothers are with Ryuu Hayashi." Takano stated, not trying to be rude of the cold hard fact that Hana could be a danger to the princes yokais. Last thing she needed was to have Takayuki going all murderous on the poor girl. "Sorry, Hana." He apologized, trying to make her feel less of freak.
"No, you're right. I can hurt them and I really don't want to hurt my friends. I did that last time to Tatsu and I still haven't forgiven myself for it." Hana frowned, staring at the ground.
"Don't do that to yourself, Hana-san. Even Tatsu forgave you! It wasn't your fault. Don't blame yourself, okay?" Akira spoke, soothing her dear friend as she sat down beside her.
Swallowing the lump of fear in her throat, Hana nodded and tried to keep her own emotions at bay. If she wanted to see her friends, it was time she learned to truly control her worst fears right now - and that was hurting her friends with her powers. The loss of control of her powers could very will be the most damaging to not only her friends but to herself. She couldn't live with herself knowing she harmed her best friends. Hell, she couldn't even harm her enemies.
Meanwhile, as the three sat on the bench, trying to keep the atmosphere free from anxiety and fear, steps were heard from behind them. Turning around, Hana felt her entire heart stop and breath leaving her lungs. Standing before her was the man she could never get out of her mind.
Dressed in his casual blue faded jeans and purple 'Peace' shirt, topped off with sandals and tousled short hair. It was his usual look that screamed hippi! And one that made him stand out in the crowd of wealthy kids. His father never approved of his look, but Ryuu Hayashi stood as a carefree man with a heart to love just about anyone.
He looked for the good in people. He smiled even when times weren't so bright. He always succeeded in making those close around him smile and laugh, because to him - a day meant smiling for appreciating the life to live today.
And that made Hana love him completely.
Standing beside him was his younger brother, by twenty months, Daisuke Hayashi. Natsu Kasai, Tatsu Taisho and Masatoshi Shichiinitai were also standing with him. Daisuke in his usual dress pants and button up shirt with black loafers. Natsu and Tatsu dressed in khaki shorts and Metallica and X Japan t-shirts. And Masatoshi dressed in yellow faded jeans and a lime green 'Mobile Suit Gundam' shirt with punk boots.
"Hana?" Tatsu smiled widely, looking pass Takano's body to see the petite frighten girl behind him. "You're here!" He raced over to her quickly to grab her into a hug, but stop momentarily as he waited for her permission. "Is it ok to hug?"
Tears filling her eyes, she watched the innocent Taisho brother staring at her. Nodding, she lifted off the bench and wrapped her arms around him tightly. "Oh Tatsu-kun! I've missed you so much!"
Wrapping his own arms around her small body, he pulled her tightly to him and inhaled her familiar scent. She was still nervous and frightened, and it broke his heart that his little sister will always be afraid. "I've missed you, Hana-chan."
Walking up behind them, Masatoshi smiled as he watched Hana being put back onto the ground and turning around to look at them. Without a moment to spare, he raced over to her as well and gave her a tight hug. "You were truly missed Hana-chan. I'm so glad you are here."
"Me too." Hana smiled, trying to keep her powers at bay as her emotions being a crash course. She felt so happy to see all her friends, and knowing that she hadn't hurt anyone yet made her even more happier.
Releasing Toshi, she looked over and gave similar hugs to Natsu and Daisuke. Pausing and trying to distract herself from the one hug she feared most. It wasn't because she was afraid - well she was afraid she would be too happy and emotional that she might hurt the one guy who made her heart race. Swallowing, she finally turned around to see Ryuu.
Doing the same, Ryuu watched in awe at the beautiful woman before him. It made his heart ache at how much difference there was from the last time they all saw her. She was broken to the point of being almost soulless the last time they saw her. He wanted revenge on those who hurt her that badly, but seeing her standing before him, with happiness and pride, it was the best feeling ever.
It made his heart beat with the seconds passing by. Without a moment to spare, he walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her. Holding her closely to him, he didn't want this moment to end. It wasn't long until he felt her hugging him back. "I've missed you." He whispered into her ear.
She felt tingles crawling over her skin from his breath on her ear. His words were the same as everyone else's but they meant so much more to her than anyone's.
Holding him tightly, she was oblivious to everyone around her. She wanted this moment to last. His scent made her forget all her worries. His touch made her feel normal again. Everything about him made her feel safe and secure - and made her feel like herself once again. 'I love you, Ryuu.' She mindlessly thought to herself, wishing she had the courage to say it.
For the past eight years, she had always felt strong for him. She always held that crush on him. It wasn't until now that she knew for certain she completely fell for him. And it frightened her. It frightened her so much because she feared he'd never feel the same.
Clearing his throat, Takano finally spoke up. "You know, this is nice and all, but extremely awkward. Please, don't start kissing. I'm not sure if I will handle a punk kissing my little sister." He joked.
Her eyes widen at the realization that people were around, she quickly pushed away from Ryuu and blushed. Bowing, she looked over to Takano. "One of these days, I will get married, nii-san." She teased back.
"Yeah, over my dead body. Now, let's go out to eat. I'm starving!" He smirked, looking over at the others who nodded in agreement.
"Oh, before we came here, Sonya said she will meet us over at the ramen shop down the street." Daisuke stated.
"Awesome. I could kill some ramen right about now." Takano smirked, while Natsu came to walk beside him.
Meanwhile, as everyone began to walk out the court yard of the college, Ryuu and Hana stood in silence. Clearing her throat, she finally spoke up. "We should probably get going."
"Before we go, I need to tell you something." He sighed, looking down nervously.
Her heart stopped. She wasn't sure what to expect right now, but she was sure whatever he had to say would probably upset her or make her happy. The latter didn't look like it was going to happen though. Swallowing, she smiled and nodded. "What is it, Ryuu-kun?"
Clearing his throat, he finally sighed and felt his heart racing. He wanted to tell her he was falling for her. He was falling for her since they first met in secondary school. All he wanted right now was to finally be with the one woman who had his heart since day one, and till this day always made his breath escape him. But he couldn't.
He could never have that life.
He had to say something though, but he knew the truth just wasn't it. He couldn't tell her he was to marry the daughter of Satoshi Kobayashi. He couldn't tell her because of his father's arrangement, and his honor bound nature, he couldn't tell the one woman he truly loved that he was to marry another woman. It broke his heart completely.
Instead, he decided against it. He decided to say something else. He needed to. "I will be taking over my father's company in two years time."
Her heart didn't break, but it was close. She expected something else, but she wasn't sure what. Either way, she was just glad to hear this instead. Smiling, she gave him one last hug. "That's great, Ryuu! But are you sure, I remember you said you didn't want your father's position in his company."
Of course she would know that. She was the only one who truly cared, other than his mother. Hana actually listened to him about his true dreams and goals in life. And being the CEO to his father's company was not that. But again, he just couldn't bring himself to just spill the truth to her. He couldn't tell her he loved her, but he was too much of a honor guy to defy his father's wishes.
It was wrong. He felt sick to his stomach, but he couldn't hurt the woman he loved and admired. Smiling, he shrugged and replied back. "It'll make him happy. Come on, we better start walking before we get left behind." He smiled, walking after the fading group of friends in the distance.
Smiling, she nodded and walked alongside him. "I hope you will be happy with this choice, Ryuu-san."
'San'? When did she stop calling him 'kun'? For some reason, it made his heart break completely, like the bond they held for so long was growing to be distant and strained. Smiling weakly, he nodded. "Yeah. I hope so too."
"When I told you to make sure the designs stayed on, I meant to take them off and place them on when your fixed the fucking dress! How can I ever wear this sham of a dress if you can't even follow simple instructions? Father!"
"What is it princess?" Satoshi Kobayashi answered while not bothering to look from behind the news paper. Sipping his cup of coffee, he flipped the pages while semi-listening to his daughter's rants.
"These worthless simpletons can't work a simple project! They ruined my mother's dress!" She growled out, tightening her fists in the poor dress, almost ripping it from the loose threading.
"Ruining? So, answer me this princess. What is it that you are doing?" He asked, reading the news article that caught his interest.
"That's besides the point! It wasn't my fault mother was fat! I am only altering it to fit my amazing physique! But these morons can't even do that!" She growled out, tossing thee dress to the ground and stomping on it.
"Now princess, what would your mother say about those harsh words?" He casually stated, taking another sip of his coffee.
"Who cares? She's gone anyway." She rolled her eyes and walked over to the kitchen table. "I want a dress, daddy! A beautiful dress for the Taisho main event this weekend!"
"Go ask Jun about finding a great dress. I'm not into style." He flung his hand around, waving off his daughter.
Scoffing, she rolled her eyes once more and sat down in the chair before him. "What does your boyfriend know about style? You guys can't even decorate a kitchen properly! Just give me some money and I will go buy my own outfit." She demanded.
"Go ask Jun. I'm busy, princess."
Snarling, Sakura Kobayashi rolled her eyes yet again and stormed out the kitchen in search for her step-father. Walking upstairs, she bursts through the door to the master bedroom where Jun Kanno was currently in bed asleep from working all night. Stomping over to him, she poked his shoulder and shouted out. "Wake up! I need money for the store."
Groaning, Jun turned around to be greeted by his spoiled step-daughter. Sighing, he reached over to grab his partner's wallet and tossed it over to Sakura. "There. Now let me sleep." He mumbled, covering his head under the covers to avoid the light coming in from the open door to the bedroom.
Shrugging, Sakura wasted no time in leaving the bedroom and making her way to the kitchen again. Taking out the cash in the wallet, she placed the now cash-less wallet before her father and placed it in her purse lying on the kitchen counter. Twirling around, she stormed over to the front door.
"Sakura!" Satoshi calmly shouted out after his daughter, not taking his eyes off the newspaper.
"What?"
"Be careful out there." He stated, than went back to sipping his coffee and reading.
Slamming the door shut, she made her way to her own car. Grabbing the phone inside her vehicle, she dialed the number to Miyo's home number. Within a few rings, she answered. "Hey, I'm going to the mall. You coming with?"
"Sure. Me and Kirai will meet you there." Miyo responded.
"Good. See you then."
#
"Do you think it's strange that after all this time we have never seen Toshi's girlfriend." Tatsu stated, looking around to see everyone nodding in agreement. Sitting in the food court of the mall, every one of the members of the small group was each thinking the same thing. Did their dear friend, Masatoshi truly have a girlfriend?
Take cleared his throat catching everyone's attention. "If you ask me, I think he's trying to pay a random girl to be his girlfriend to meet us."
"You guys are so mean!" Hana chuckled. "He probably does have a girlfriend. We will just have to wait and see."
"But Hana-chan!" Tatsu whined, only receiving a glare from the beautiful miko. "Fine. I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt."
"I don't know. I'm still weary on the whole idea. Take-san could very well be right about this." Natsu added on with Takano nodding in agreement.
"Or he could not have introduce her to us because we are so judgmental." Sonya stated, glaring at the two men. "I wouldn't introduce my boyfriend to you guys."
Laughing loudly, Natsu wiped a fake tear. "You will never have a boyfriend. It's not allowed." He grinned, only having Sonya rise to her feet and stormed over to him. "What?"
"I can do what I please! If I want a boyfriend, I'll have a boyfriend. And trust me, me and all the girls here have had boyfriends without you guys knowing!" Sonya huffed, smirking in triumph.
"That's what you think." Daisuke stated while messing with a Rubik's cube. "All those guys you girls dated in high school always dumped you, and do you know why? Because they weren't worthy."
Gasping, Izayoi looked over to see Take's expression. "Sonya! Shut up! You're going to get us in trouble!"
"Oh, it's too late for that." Take stated. "I do recall you dating that nerd from our Chemistry class, what was his name? Chou? Byo?"
"Byung-ho." Izayoi blushed brightly. "He's Korean."
"Oh that's even worse!" Take spoke up, wide eyed. The sense of jealously began to rise all over again, and he knew he needed to calm down. What was meant to be just a joking tease turned against him once again. He hated the fact that Izayoi did date, and he never regretted making the poor guy piss his pants when he got him alone to tell him to leave Izayoi. But hearing it all over that she was with someone else, it made his blood boil - especially when he knew for a fact he'd never be with her. Ever.
"Coming from the guy whose engaged?" Sonya glared, trying to defend her dear friend.
"Sonya-san." Hana was the first to say something before things got out of hand.
"Fine. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to but you guys should learn not to claim us as property. We are not your girlfriends! We are your friends! Always have been and always will be! Eventually we will all find someone who will love us, but until than we stay out of each others love affairs. It's wrong!" She stated finally before they all heard a sigh of frustration.
Turning around, they all watched as Masatoshi appeared behind them with a girl latched onto his arm. "This is why I never brought you in the first place to meet my friends. They are…"
"Great?" The smiling woman looked up to him. "Don't apologize for your friends. I can see why you love them dearly. They are almost like family." She turned her attention finally to everyone else. "Hello! I'm Mukai Kira! But you all can call me Kira-san."
Blinking, everyone remained silent for a while until the two inuyokai of their group finally said something. "Well, their not lying. It's legit." Tatsu mentioned while his older twin brother confirmed it.
"You have a girlfriend?" Sonya blurted out, covering her mouth at the realization of how that question sounded.
"Yes, Sonya-san. I do have a girlfriend. She's real." Masatoshi glared.
Before she could say anything more, Hana and Izayoi came to save their dear friend from more humiliation. "Well! It's a pleasure to meet you, Kira-san. I am Higurashi Hana, and this is Tsukino Izayoi. That one behind us is Yukimura Sonya, and the other woman who will be joining us later is Fujimoto Akira." Hana smiled.
"I'm Hayashi Daisuke, and this is my older brother Ryuu. Those two yokais are Taisho Take-san, and Tatsu-san. That one over there is Kasai Natsu, and beside him is Taijiya Takano. It's very nice to meet you finally, Kira-san." Daisuke smiled, giving a friendly bow.
Returning the gesture, Kira looked around than back over to Masatoshi. "I wish I had known them sooner. This would be a little less awkward." She smiled with a soft giggle.
Suddenly, without any warning, they were all interrupted by a cleared throat and tapping heels. "Well, well well. Look what we have here. Sakura, isn't that your dear cousin?" A lethal voice echoed from behind them.
"Oh, I do believe she is. Of course, she is no blood relative of mine." Sakura scoffed. "Oh! Ryuu-san! You are here!" She squealed, walking quickly over to the Hayashi heir.
Blood left his face quickly as he watched in horror the woman walking over to him. Swallowing, he looked over to Hana who looked just as confused as everyone else, and even more so when Sakura took it upon herself to kiss him on the lips. Pushing her away, he wiped his lips and stared at her in disbelief.
"Oh Ryuu-san. Is that anyway to treat your fiance?" She grinned, looking directly over to Hana. "Oh, he didn't tell you. We are meant to be." She bite her bottom lip and grinned widely as she saw the anguish and hurt in Hana's eyes. Her sole target in devastating completely. It was so obvious the two have always liked each other, except to them. Now that she had something over the miko, Sakura would truly enjoy this moment even more.
Feeling her heart breaking into a million pieces, she watched as Ryuu didn't try to fight the statement Sakura announced to everyone. She also noticed the hurt and regret in his eyes, and couldn't help but feel so much betrayal from the one man she truly loved. Turning away to not show her tears, she decided to walk away.
"Hana!"
She refused to look back. She refused to see his face again. All she wanted most right now was to run away. With both her friends following after her, Izayoi and Sonya both placed their hands on her shoulders to help keep her calm. Trying her hardest to reel back her emotions and keep her powers at bay, she couldn't help but feel more pain as the image of Sakura kissing Ryuu haunted her - over and over and over.
"Hana! Please! Wait!"
Never.
Never will she allow her heart to be broken by a man again.
Never will she be hurt!
To her, they were all the same. Every single one of them were all the same. No man could ever be trusted.
Friday finally arrived, and so did many other problems. It seemed there were more issues occurring since Monday and no matter how hard Hana tried, she couldn't bring herself to attend the big event being held for Take Taisho. She knew she had to be there, at least for him, but she didn't want to risk seeing Ryuu.
It was foolish, and she knew that, but she just wasn't ready to talk to him. Her heart was broken, and if he lied about this little fiasco, than how much more was he hiding from her? She knew he didn't owe her any explanation, but she was upset and hurt.
She felt betrayed!
Finally her attention was brought back to reality when she heard the door to her dorm room open. Coming inside was Sonya, Akira and Izayoi, both eagerly ready to try on their dresses and get ready for the major event tonight. Staring idly, she wanted to go but she was too stubborn. There was no way she will go right now. Besides, she didn't even have a dress.
"Hana-san." Sonya cooed, walking over to her with a big grin on her face and a bag behind her back. "I have a special gift for you. It's from me of course, so you have no excuse not to go."
"Sonya…" Hana groaned, not wanting to hear anymore of this.
"Please Hana. It's Take's big event! He's being announced publicly to society that he will be taking over his father's position in two years! You have to go!" Sonya whined, looking back over at the other girls for help. "Stop being so stubborn! You're not just hurting yourself, you are hurting all of us too."
"Fine!" Hana glared, getting up and walking towards her friend. "But only for thirty minutes, and I'm leaving."
"But he won't be announced until a couple hours after the party begins. At least stay until then." Izayoi spoke up, frowning with her perfect pout face.
She felt the need to roll her eyes, but she couldn't do that. She wasn't that type of person. Smiling, she finally nodded and looked over at her friends. Where would she be without them? They truly never gave up on her, so why should she give up on them?
"Alright. Let's get ready."
It was ridiculous to think that for a moment that Takayuki Taisho would even reconsider this grand opening and having Take be there. It was insane, actually. All Take wanted was to be out of the arranged marriage, out of the club opening and just finish college and run his own little book store with a napping area. Yeah, that was the good life - but no - he just had to be the heir to Takayuki.
"I'm sorry son, but I seemed to misheard you. May you repeat what you just spoke?" Takayuki asked, leaning back against his desk and rubbing both his wrist simultaneously.
"May I excuse myself from this event, father?" Take asked once more, feeling the tension in the room increasing.
Looking up, Takayuki wasted no time in smacking his son across the face - hard. "You disappoint me, Take-kun. Who do you take me for? To be as soft and lenient as your mother? That is not the Taisho way! You are to be my heir, and you do nothing but bring shame upon me!" His voice never lowered down as he grabbed his son's shirt and pulled him closely to snarled in his face - literally.
He hated these things with his father. Every moment he disappointed him, he was beaten. This was actually not as bad at the other moments. At least his nose wasn't bleeding this time. He knew if the scent of blood even reached the air, his mother would be in the room - accidentally harming him more when she will be asked to leave - and try to defend her son.
She hated watching her son being hit by her mate. As much as she loved Takayuki, she just couldn't bare the fact that Take would have to endure harsh training for being the heir. She knew since she was young that inuyokai's were never lenient with their children, especially the ones to succeed over the leader. But it didn't mean she had to like it and accept it.
And it was that kind heart that Tatsu had gained from their mother. Because he too believed that the abuse was wrong. Take was the only one who saw otherwise. Of course, he did hate getting hit and not having his freedom, but this was his life now. He had to make the best of it.
This was the Taisho way.
"You will attend this event, and also bring guests. I can't have a son who isn't well known in his class, and has no friends! That is just down right embarrassing! Do not embarrass me further! Understood?"
Nodding, Take kept his gaze to the ground and decided to just agree. He didn't want to get hit more, even though he could heal fast. It wouldn't be fast enough when he had to see Izayoi in thirty minutes.
"Good." Takayuki stated, dropping his son as he let go of his shirt and walking out of the living room.
Standing in silence, Take dusted his shirt from the wrinkles and tried to gather his own emotions back in place. A Taisho didn't cry.
Meanwhile, foot steps were heard from behind him and he saw his mother standing idly. "How long have you been there?" Take asked, not bothering if his voice sounded remotely cold and emotionless.
"Long enough." She stated simply.
Looking up, her long black hair flowed like water behind her, landing in strands all over her shoulders and back, she gave a short smile. Her vibrant blue eyes reminded him of icicles. They were so clear and in depth, he spent hours when he was younger just looking into them. How could something that looked so cold be so warm and filled with life? His mother always amazed him in many ways, and he envied his twin brother that happiness and love affection he received from Rin Taisho.
"When I first learned I was pregnant, I was filled with joy that no one could ever imagine. The first little kicks. The first movements. Hearing both your heart beats…" She paused as she looked down to the marble flooring and felt a single tear sliding down. "Had I known that you would be tormented all your life and stripped from the future you wanted, I'd have run when you both were still in my womb. I have failed my son. I have failed you, Take-kun. I hate seeing a bruise on my beautiful baby boy."
Again, he found himself lost in those ice blue eyes and felt his heart beating with emotions. He should push his mother away to avoid anymore abuse, but he couldn't do that. He just couldn't push his mother away like that.
"Promise me, that when you have a son…" She licked her lips and swallowed the lump in her throat. "You break this trend. And you protect that baby with all your might from the cruelness of this world. Promise me, Take-kun."
"I can't." He regretted those words. He saw the tears filling her gentle eyes and again he made his mother cry. Why couldn't he be like Tatsu and have a way with words to make his mother smile instead? "I'm sorry, mother. But I should go."
Nodding, she didn't bother to look back as her son walked away from her. Standing alone in silence, she silently cried and prayed - she prayed that one day this stupid trend will break…
Forever.
"You are truly going to do this are you?"
"Why not? It's for the best anyway. You are meant to succeed him, not me. I want a free life with the perfect girl of my dreams. I refuse to marry Kobayashi-san." Ryuu stated, packing a few more of his bags from his room. "Besides, I see the way you look at her. You love her, don't you?"
Tensing, Daisuke looked down and cleared his throat. "Sakura-san is beautiful, but I am not sure I would say I love her."
Smiling, Ryuu just shrugged. "Who knows, you might be able to change her. I know I can't. I don't love her. I love Hana."
"This is still foolish brother. If you leave, father will disown you and cut you from everything." Daisuke warned.
Laughing, Ryuu shrugged and looked over to his younger brother. "I don't care about the money or titles. I care about living my life. You will be the best to run father's company. And you will certainly make Sakura happy. I just don't see myself doing any of this stuff. It's not me."
Sighing, the younger brother sat on the edge of the bed and stared at the wooden floor. He wasn't liking any of this one bit, but he knew he couldn't never stop his brother. Once Ryuu made up his mind, that was it. Nothing could ever change it.
Looking up, he finally patted his shoulder and smiled. "I'll always love you brother, and you will always be my brother."
"You too, Suke-kun."
The event was amazing. Such a great occasion for a brilliant man was really the best way to go. Hana couldn't help but feel happiness for her friend. With all their struggles in school and trying to get into the same college, happiness was most definitely deserved for everyone.
Standing near the back where their table was reserved, Hana watched as all her friends ventured off to talk with other people. Some she didn't even know or she heard of famously but never met. Even a few major political heads appeared as well.
All in all, this was a high class event - and one that she clearly had no right to be in as a matter of fact. All her friends had some type of wealth to their name while all she had was just the title of a miko and her family shrine. Either way, she rather have her life than some of what money would bring.
It seemed happiness and making their own path will never happen to those who hold money and power in their names. And that's where Take Taisho stood at this very moment. She truly felt for him.
"Hana-san?"
Turning around, Hana was greeted by Masatoshi's girlfriend, or was it fiance? She wasn't too sure anymore. Smiling, she nodded and watched as Kira pulled up a seat to sit beside her. "Hello, Kira-san."
"Forgive me, I just don't know many people here." She smiled brightly. "How are you doing with all this?"
Chuckling, Hana shrugged. "Honestly, as long as I'm away from everyone, I'll be alright." She smiled sadly.
"Why's that?"
"No reason. I just haven't trusted many people yet." She answered to the best she could. It wasn't that she didn't trust Kira, in all honesty she probably could trust the girl more than her best friend, Sonya, who accidentally spills almost every secret. She truly loved her friend, but there were some things that she was glad she actually held to herself - like about that incident last spring for one.
"I am the same way. My family is very wealthy, and they also have enemies. My uncle, who happens to be gay, is not to be trusted." She lowered her head, sighing softly with sadness. "My cousin, Sakura, she doesn't like me. But I know one day she will though." She smiled brightly, with hope in her eyes.
"Sakura Kobayashi?"
"Yes. We are only related by marriage. Her father is my uncle's partner's daughter. Either way, my father wants me to stay away from them for fear they might use me against them. It's silly, but I don't believe my cousin or uncles will ever harm me. No one is that bad." She gave a limp smile before looking back down to her hands.
"How can you be so sure?" Hana slightly huffed. "There are people out there who will hurt us. Trust me, I know."
Blinking in worry, Kira looked at the now frightened woman before her. Frowning, she quickly bowed her head and apologized. "I am very sorry. I didn't mean to offend. I have a terrible habit of doing that. My cousin says it's because I am naïve and stupid. But I don't think I'm stupid."
"She insults you?"
"She doesn't mean it. You have to understand her situation. She was abandoned by her mother, and her father turned out gay and focuses more on his relationship than with his daughter. She wasn't always so mean and spoiled. She was very sweet and kind until her mother left." Kira sighed. "I'm terrible with secrets. Don't tell anyone that please. Sakura will get very upset if anyone found out about her personal life."
Nodding in understanding, Hana didn't bother to let anyone else know in all honesty. To her, someone's personal life was their business. There was no reason why she should go blabbering out their life to other people. Even if they were terrible people. Her father and grandmother taught her better than that. Smiling, she finally took her glass and raised it to Kira who also did the same. Taking a sip of the sparkling champagne, they both sat in silence.
It wasn't long until that silence was disturbed by the last person she ever wanted to see. Standing before her in a nice suit, all navy blue with a black dress shirt and dark blue tie, he looked breathtakingly remarkable. But he'd look even more handsome in just his regular faded blue jeans and washed out color shirts with that goofy smile of his. And those grey eyes - gods how she loved those eyes of his. It was like looking into a fog over the ocean.
She lost count on how many times she lost herself in those mesmerizing eyes of his. But that all changed when she snapped back to realty after he cleared his throat to get her attention. Glaring, she quickly rose from her seat and headed out of the building.
"Hana!" Not wanting another repeat, Ryuu wasted no time in chasing after her.
It wasn't long until they both reached the outside of the building and were both alone in the cool air night. Panting, Ryuu felt his heart racing and his stomach tying up in knots. She was beautiful. Dressed in a dark green dress that hug her every curves and her hair curled to one side. All of it was a piece to making her beauty stand out even more - especially those dark brown eyes he fell in love with forever ago.
Standing just a few inches away from her, time froze still as they gaze into each other's eyes. He saw the hurt. He saw the broken trust she held for him. It broke his heart. He never wanted to hurt her. Never in a million years!
"I'm so sorry." He whispered seconds before touching her cheek and delivering her a passionate kiss. His heart flew against his chest, his mind racing with so many thoughts of possibilities.. Of a future that will soon be seen.
Everything felt so clear. Everything felt so real.
There was no denying that he found the one. He found his one true love, and he'll be damned if he was to ever let her go again.
The anger - the betrayal - the hurt - all of it vanished the second their lips touched. She couldn't explain it. She didn't want an explanation. And for once, she also felt safe. She felt the security she had been craving since that dreadful attack. Pulling herself closer to him, needing to feel him completely, she lost herself as they kissed for what seemed like forever.
She should be mad.
She should be pissed, but she wasn't anymore. She could never truly be mad at the one man who always held her heart.
Money brought no one happiness. It controlled a person's future. Realizing that, she quickly pulled away in fright. Staring up at him, she felt her stomach sink to her gut. How could she kiss him when he was to marry Sakura? This was wrong.
"Is something wrong?"
"Yes." She quickly spoke, trying to pull away from him but finding it very difficult.
"What's wrong?"
"You are to be with Sakura. Not me. If you father finds out, he'll cut you off from everything. I can't do that to you. You deserve to be happy." She felt the tears coming on.
Laughing, he shook his head and pulled her to him once more. "Hana - you make me happy. I don't want the life my father chose for me. I want you. Let me chose you."
Shaking her head, she bit her bottom lip and tried to look away from him as he lifted her chin to see her intently. "No, I can't make you do this."
"You're not making me do anything." He smiled. "Hana, look at me. Please."
Giving in, she brought her dark eyes up to him, tears cascading down her cheeks. "I love you, Hana-san. I loved you ever since we first met. I'm doing this because I want to. Because it will make me happy. I'm doing this because I want you as my wife - I want you as the mother to our children. Hana, I want you because I love only you. Only you."
Feeling herself breaking apart at his words, she found herself lifting up on her toes and delivering another kiss. Wrapping her arms tightly around his neck, she smiling a real genuine smile as she kissed the man she will always love. Pulling away just slightly, she whispered back, "And I love you, Ryuu."
