A/n: Okay, I know it's been a while for an update. But my muse works in mysterious ways and this is what I came up with.

Chapter 27
A Deadly Opponent

Sesshomaru was taken back, when he watched an attractive brown-haired woman running towards them. �You did not tell me that a woman was onboard!� Sesshomaru snorted. �She will only complicate matters!�

�She is no concern of yours, Captain!� Miroku narrowed his eyes but didn�t lower his blade. He cursed silently, as he watched Sango run aimlessly at the two. �What is she thinking?� Miroku was prepared to fight this demon to the death, if need be.

Sango pushed the crewmembers out of her way. �Miroku��

Finally, Sango managed to break threw the crew that surrounded the two captains. She had thrown herself in front of Miroku protectively. �You will not dare lay a hand on my fianc�!�

Sesshomaru shook with amusement and began to laugh, his crew following in chorus. �You�a mere wench, threatening me�!� He had to admit though; this attractive female had a fire in her eyes, which he�d never seen in all his travels. �Why don�t you go downstairs in the *galley and make us something to eat, instead of trying to handle politics!� He smirked seeing her face contort in anger. �Well�, go on� run along� go play house!�

Miroku had heard enough, as he roughly moved Sango behind him. With his blade drawn, he so badly wanted to run the arrogant captain through. �I don�t care who the hell you are! But, if you ever insult my woman or anyone on board this ship�I will be happy to throw you overboard.�Captain!�

Sesshomaru growled, drawing his own blade. �I�ve heard enough human! When I�m finished with you�not only will I have my dear brother�s ship�I will also be helping myself to your human wench!�

�The hell you will!� Miroku hissed, and then lunged forward at the demon captain.

Sesshomaru moved quickly avoiding the blade; he lunged forward, as Miroku parried against his attack.

Sango stood shocked, �what the hell just happened.� She thought dryly; as she watched the battle onboard ensue. She couldn�t stand by and watch her love tackle such a force by himself. There had to be something that she could do. Noticing one of the pirates cheer on Miroku, she took the opportunity to grab his sword from the sash tied to the side of his waist. She knew how to use one, and she would be damned if this cocky captain laid a finger on her�or hurt her beloved.

The clashing rang throughout the ship, metal against metal. Sango debated whether she should join in on the fight. She stood by idly, clenching the hilt of her blade tightly in her hands. �Come on Miroku�!� she silently cheered.

Miroku lunged again, bending his knee slightly to enable him to have more strength against the demon. �Damn!� he cursed; he was tiring and knew that Sesshomaru was not.

The two fighters where face to face, their swords binding together with such velocity, that they chimed in unison. Miroku gritted his teeth, as he felt the captain push him back. He tried with all his vigor to keep his balance. He knew that one wrong move could cost him his life.

�Tell me human�who taught you how to fight?� Sesshomaru asked in a blas� tone. He knew he could easily win this match; after all, he was stronger than his opponent was. Toying with the boy was quite the entertainment. Although he had to admit for a measly human, he was quite a challenge.

Miroku managed to manipulate his fingers around the hilt of his blade, and with a determined roar, he threw Sesshomaru back. Panting he glared at the demon before him. His lip drew into a deadly, yet cocky smirk. �Funny you should ask�� He lunged after the captain again, �Because, it was your dear brother that taught me!�

Sesshomaru parried the attack, almost succeeding in knocking his opponent�s weapon out of his hand. �And�do you know�who taught him?� Sesshomaru snickered as he lunged forward.

Miroku retreated avoiding the almost fatal blow to his abdomen. He almost wanted to wipe his sweat laced brow, �damn! That was close.� He narrowed his eyes with repugnance. The captain before him was strong and Miroku didn�t know how much more he could take, before fatigued set in. However, his determination to protect Sango gave him purpose �an inner strive� as he continued his sparring.

Sesshomaru could smell the fatigue settle over the boy. He smirked, as he ran up to him quickly, as the two blades connected once again. �Well!� Sesshomaru roared.

Miroku didn�t expect the brute force behind Sesshomaru�s attack, he tried to parry against his opponents sword, unfortunately Sesshomaru manipulated his block and whipped-over Miroku�s sword, which casually flew out of his hands, and landed blade first into the wooden deck. Miroku looked over to see his weapon standing erect. He frowned. He failed to protect his fianc�. Glancing over, he could see the captain approaching him with a cocky grin. Miroku shook with exhaustion, as his knees buckled before him. He lost; at least he was going to die honorably. �Sango, I love you-!� He never finished his sentence, as a clawed fist connected to his jaw.

Sesshomaru stood proudly over his victor, smirking he whispered, �I taught him!�

Sango screamed, as she ran over to her love that now lay unconscious on the deck. She noticed the crew looked confused, but they stood down�as if expecting new orders. She now stood between Miroku and the demon that brought him down. Sword in hand, she was prepared to fight. She refused to be some object to this filth before her. Anger elucidated her flushed face, as she stood facing the stoic captain. �You will not go anywhere near him!�

Sesshomaru chuckled, placing his blade back into his scabbard. Ignoring the human girl, he looked over at his crew and gave a silent command. He watched his men scurried around, as he focused his attention towards the feisty woman. �Put down that sword, before you hurt yourself.�

�Speak for yourself�you bastard!�

Sesshomaru chuckled, �You�re probably questioning if I�m friend or foe? Am I right?� He glanced over at a tall member of Inuyasha�s crew. �Please take Captain Miroku to his quarters and see that he�s properly looked at.�

Sango looked at him confused, �W-what is the meaning of this!� she said, still holding the sword defensively. She could feel the boat began to move, as she slowly glanced from the corner of her eye, as the demon captain�s boat remained. �Tell me!�

�I was merely testing his strength. I had to see if Miroku was a worthy enough adversary.� He watched her beautiful face fill with confusion, he sighed. �Although it seemed at first, that my attention was mutiny. My ulterior motive was seeing if your fianc� was worthy enough to face me! I needed to make sure he was a commendable enough ally to fight next to me if a battle was to arise.�

�W-what?� she stammered. �What kind of hideous person are you!�

�My dear, I am what I am.� He said, sounding as if she crushed his heart. He approached her casually, as if the blade in her hand was nothing but a mere child�s toy. Grabbing it roughly and succeeding in rendering her weaponless, he smiled at her. �And, that my dear is a pirate!�

She growled at him as she watched him walk away from her. Turning she headed towards the quarters where Miroku laid still unconscious. She smiled, �at least he�s still alive.�

Kagome had finished her letter. Standing up she looked around for her mate. He was nowhere to be found; she sighed. Tomorrow, would be the day that her father was delivered the news and she new he wouldn�t be pleased with the results.

She decided to go into the cabin. The sun was too much right now, and some needed shade was in her agenda. With the letter in hand she passed by all the workers, but still no Inuyasha. �Where the hell is he�?�

�Why do you allow filth to touch such beauty?� A cruel voice said behind her.

Kagome froze, and then turned to the man with heated eyes. She recognized the boy to be Hojo. She didn�t know what to say, as the boy glared at her with prejudice eyes. �I am sorry if I offended you, but I love whom I love.�

Hojo smiled, but the smile was far from a happy one. �I know that you�re engaged to another�why do you allow yourself to continue to be with such an animal? Why do you allow him to touch you? To me that makes you nothing but a whore!� He approached her, seeing her face turn angry then hurt. He knew it was a risk, but the two captains weren�t around, and to him she was all his. �I�ve admired you from a far, and I cannot subjugate myself to your scandalous ways any longer.� He ran his fingers gently against her arm. �Why don�t you accommodate me in the quarters�I will pay a fine price!�

�You bastard�!� Kagome hissed, as she pulled her arm back away from his discriminating touch. �How dare you touch me! How dare you judge me!�

Shippo�s ears perked up hearing the distressing sound in Kagome�s voice. He looked around and found her in an intense argument with one of the crewmembers. His eyes narrowed, as he listened to the conversation at hand. He growled when he heard Hojo call her a whore. He knew that Inuyasha and Koga went down to the galley and wouldn�t be pleased if they knew what was happening topside. Flexing his claws, he stopped working and began to approach the two.

Hojo chuckled with hate, �Oh, Kagome don�t play coy with me. Just think of the fun you can have with a human male. I can take you away from here�we can go anywhere you desire.�

Kagome had heard enough and finally snapped. A resounding �smack!� echoed around the ship, as she laid her hand against the side of his cheek. �You disgust me�!� she hissed. �I have no intentions of being with you�or with anyone for that matter! I am proud of the choice I made. Inuyasha is a good man with a great heart. I wouldn�t exchange him for you, Andrew�, or anyone for that matter!�

Hojo rubbed the side of his cheek, his temper flaring. �You bitch!� he began to lunge at her, but was stopped when someone grabbed the back of his shirt. He gulped, as he could feel the claws, digging slightly in his skin, and prayed that it wasn�t Inuyasha.

�Listen here you little *Pollywog! I have in mind to have you *Flogged!� Shippo growled. �Kagome�, go to your quarters�, I�ll take care of this swine!�

Kagome nodded and ran away from the scene. She didn�t want to know what fate bestowed the boy. His hateful words still haunted her as well as his touch. She had never felt more disgusted as she did now. Tears began to brim her eyes as she ran blindly to her room. All she wanted to do was throw herself against the soft bed and wash away her miseries.

Kagome however, didn�t expect to run into her mate, �Inuyasha!� she looked up at him with tears streaming down her face. She embraced him tightly, as she felt him embrace her back. She sobbed, �H-Hojo�said�such�horrible�things�to�me!� She cried harder.

Inuyasha growled with intensity, that she�d never heard before. �Where is he�I�ll kill him!�

�H-he�s...with�S-Shippo�!� She said brokenly.

Koga placed a firm hand on Inuyasha�s shoulder, �be careful Inuyasha! We still need him to deliver that letter!�

Inuyasha removed Koga�s hand, �I promise I won�t kill him. Take Kagome back to her room and stay with her. I�ll be back as soon as I�m done with Hojo!�

Koga shook his head side to side, �As you wish Inuyasha�but remember you can�t kill him!� He grabbed Kagome�s hand, as he rubbed her tears away. �Come love, I�ll bring you some nice *Bumboo, I�ve been saving for a special occasion. And, after the day you�ve had�love it looks like you could use it more than I.�

Kagome nodded as she retired into her quarters.
A/n: Well here are the lovely Natical terms.

*Galley- is a kitchen.

*Pollywog- is someone who's never crossed the equatior

*Flogged- punished by Cat-O�-Nine-Tails- A whip made from knotted ropes, used to punish crewmembers

*Bumboo- A mixture of rum, water, sugar, and nutmeg. Favored among the West Indians as well as buccaneers and pirates
