Thank you for reading, hope you enjoy this chapter!
A week had passed and she was growing antsy. For the past few days, she had dropped everything in search for one male who dared defy her: Tatsu Taisho. How dare the prick even make a mockery of her threats?
Seething with anger, she paced in her private study and marched back over to the window to gaze upon her most favorite garden. The air seemed so warm outside, but she knew better. It was ice cold just like those around her. She felt like she was the only one who saw reason in everything. Her own mate even made a mockery of her motives, but she knew - oh did she know the whole reason behind it.
The marriage and mating bond was nothing. In the end, when Take leaves, she will be left with nothing. Even her children will abandon her, just like everyone else before them. This couldn't be happening!
How could something so small be exposed to such a larger scale?
In the small amount of time her children were gone, was just enough time for her children to turn against her completely. Her Rin. Gods, her lovely Rin even turned her back against her the second she learned of her brother's torment.
Sick. She knew it was sick, and part of her begged for it to stop. There was no reason for a mother to torture her child like that, but she couldn't stop. She couldn't bring herself to stop because of the fear and power she felt from it. It was addictive.
She knew, just like Kirai, there won't be much time in the world left to breath. Miyo knew the second she gave in, she too would be buried six-feet-under. Her children will show no affection but rejoice in her death. Her parents would have done the same too if they hadn't passed already.
Her life was nothing but a disaster, and it continued to get worse by the second. She refused to give up.
All of this happened so fast, and it was all thanks to that little bitch Kagome Higurashi! Growling in fury, Miyo turned around and swung her arms over her desk to push everything off in a fit of rage. Anger was all she felt at the thought of the Higurashi family.
Her entire life was ruined because of Hana Higurashi!
"I am going to kill you, Hana. I'll fucking kill you." Miyo seethed out, trying to regain her cool but it was failing miserably. She was pissed. She was hurt.
She was lost.
Everything was coming to an end, and she knew it would only be a matter of seconds until the silence of solitude came knocking on her door. She refused to see it though. She was going to win this battle. She was going to win this fight! This war!
But first, she needed to find him. She needed to find Tatsu.
Oblivious to the company in her room, Miyo turned around in determination to begin her search once more. How long can a yokai from the royal family continue to hide?
Suddenly, she froze as she noticed she wasn't alone. Embarrassment flamed over her face, and she was ready to attack but decided against it. This was one person she knew she wouldn't win against. "What do you want?" She growled out, turning around to face the window again. "I called you almost three weeks ago to meet me in my private chambers, and you never came. What is it? Speak!" She demanded, feeling even more irritated at everything around her.
"Is that any way to speak to your older sister, Miyo-chan?" The mysterious female grinned, stepping into the light of the room.
"Oh please." Miyo scoffed, rolling her eyes and turning around to look at her older sister, Mina Oshiro. "You look younger than me. If anything, I should be the oldest like I should have been!"
"Are we going to argue about the fact that father disowned you? Denied you all your birth rights, twin sister?" Mina chuckled, shaking her head and walking over to the desk where Miyo was standing at. "I came because you had business. What is it, or should I leave?"
Sighing in frustration, Miyo gave in with a grind to her teeth. "Hana Higurashi has a daughter."
"And also a son. I believe this is old news." Mina sarcastically informed.
"Her daughter corrupted my son and daughter." Miyo glared. "For your information, I believe the correct term is the Higurashi family is trying to corrupt your son, Sesshomaru."
"He's not my son. You told me this every single time." Mina glared back. "After your abortion, you decided it was best to take my son away from me! Now that I think about it, why are you even with Take when you haven't even bore him any children! I have! Why am I even here now that I think about it? I am leaving, good-bye!" Mina shouted out, turning on her heel and heading towards the sliding doors.
"No! I need you!" Miyo begged. "I'll do anything, but promise me you will kill the little bitch!"
"Why should I?" Mina demanded, turning around while clenching her fists. "Why should I do anything for you? I thought you were done with me when I finished that business with Ryuu's car accident! After getting not only him, but Akira and Izayoi killed as well, I told you I was done! That the Oshiro family will no longer be doing business with you! You made me kill Take's one true love! And to top it all, you had me kill Akira! Akira was my best friend!"
"The less you needed to know. I just needed them out the picture!" Miyo tried to defend.
"Why!? For what reason did you need them gone when your quarrel was with Hana Higurashi!? Why take their lives? Why!?" Mina shouted out, rage consuming her.
"I wanted Hana to feel the pain she caused me! And Kirai wanted Akira gone because Akira was being a mother to Naraku!" She tried to explain. "Izayoi was in the way of me being with Take completely! I needed to be rid of them! I had to!"
Sinking her fingers into her hair, Mina began to tug at the strands and growled out. "Do you not hear yourself? You should have been the one to die! Listen to how greedy and fucked up you are! I killed two people that night who mattered so much to me! It was bad enough that I had to give up my son to you! How Take doesn't even know you never gave birth to Sesshomaru is beyond me! You don't deserve to live Miyo! I came here because I figured you had changed." Mina sighed out, letting her hands drop to her sides. "I thought my sister changed, but she didn't."
"I don't need to change." Miyo bit her lower lip. "I don't need anyone. All they ever do is harm me in the long run! Leave Mina! Don't ever come back!"
Scoffing, Mina looked her sister up and down in disgust and shook her head. "I'll be glad to. And one day, Miyo - I will get my son back."
"Go to hell!" Miyo shouted out, tears running down her face as she watched her sister leave as quickly as she came. Falling to the floor, she covered her face and silenced her sobs. Mina was right, she was the cause of all her own problems.
She did this! She harmed everyone! That was the reason they all were leaving. But she couldn't stop. She couldn't bring herself to stop - especially not with what she had done with Sesshomaru. Inside, she knew she couldn't never stop this madness.
Kagome had to be dealt with. And Miyo had to find security and also end her sister before she ever told Sesshomaru the truth. No one will ever know. No one will ever find out.
Looking around, she found her cell phone and quickly dialed out a number. Sniffling back her tears, she sighed in relief as the other person picked up. "Sado."
"Yes?"
"I need to hire someone. Make that two people. One to find someone, and one to kill someone."
"When you told me that you lived in a shrine, I thought you were joking." Inuyasha stated casually before receiving a slap to his upper arm. "Ow! What the fuck was that for? I was simply making a compliment."
"Sure you were." Kagome narrowed her eyes before turning back around to lead the Taisho brothers over to her home. "Now, just a warning. I have a grandfather-"
"No offense, Kagome, but everyone has a grandfather." Inuyasha stated once more followed by another slap to the arm.
"Shut it Inuyasha! Or I will have grandfather sprinkle you with holy dust and spell wards." Kagome threatened. "Now, moving along. Grandfather doesn't like-"
"Yokai!" Kagome winced at the loud voice screeching behind her. "Back vile heathens! Go back where you came from!" Turning around, she immediately shut her eyes as she saw the sand leaving her father's hand. "Kagome, move away from these demons! They must be exorcised at once!"
"Grandpa! Stop!" Kagome shouted out, only to have her words be ignored with more screeching and chants being laid out on the Taisho brothers.
"Father! Enough of this!" Hana finally shouted out, gathering her father's attention. "I am so sorry Kagome and friends." She smiled embarrassingly while walking to pull her father away from the young crowd. "Would you like something to drink? Please, come in. I promise you won't have to worry about my father's antics anymore."
"Thank you, Higurashi-san." Sesshomaru nodded.
Pausing, Hana turned around to finally look at her daughter's guest and felt the air leaving her body. "Oh my." She smiled softly before looking back between her daughter and the two males. "Are you Take's boys?"
"You know my dad?" Inuyasha asked, feeling even more uncomfortable with just saying that. Of course she knew their father. Didn't Tatsu already explain that to them? "Alright, this is getting way to weird. How is it that you know the old man?"
Chuckling, Hana looked over to her daughter. "Invite them inside, and bring them to the dining room. I'll prepare some dumplings and miso soup. We can talk in there."
Nodding, Kagome watched as her mother helped bring her wild-eyed grandfather back into the house. Looking back, she noticed the confusion in their eyes and sighed. "Come on, maybe she can explain some things to us as well." She smiled softly while leading them into her home.
Looking down, Inuyasha felt a vibration in his pocket. Reaching in, he pulled out his cell phone and cleared his throat. Answering, he looked over at Kagome and Sesshomaru. "What's up? No. No. What? How could I know that was going to happen? No! Jak! But… No, I didn't mean that! Fuck, I'll be right there." Hanging up, he looked at his brother and Kagome. "Sorry, Jak needs help."
"Is everything alright?" Kagome asked. "Should we come with you?"
"No. The conversation between my brother and the irritating one was about underwear. I think it's best we leave those two be." Sesshomaru stated simply, walking into the house and slipping off his shoes to place on the slippers.
Blushing, Kagome looked over to Inuyasha hoping he would deny the whole thing but he too was blushing red. "Eww.." She shook her head. "That's a terrible mental image I just had."
"Oh shut it! You don't see me imagining you and my brother-" He froze in his words for a moment as his thought began to process the information and immediately regretted it. "Oh, that's nasty."
"Shut up, Inuyasha! Just go!" Kagome shouted out, pushing her friend towards the steps leading up to the shrine from the street. "We will talk later."
"Yeah, yeah." Inuyasha rolled his eyes, and headed off towards the steps. "See ya tomorrow at school, Kagome!" He shouted out, leaving in a rush over to Jak's house.
Sighing, she finally turned around and headed to the house. Stepping inside, she slipped off her shoes and placed on her house slippers. A slight smile appeared over her lips at the thought of her and Sesshomaru finally getting alone time together, even if her mother was present. Souta was out with Shippo and Tsubaki, and Inuyasha was now frolicking with Jakotsu.
For the first time since last week, Sesshomaru and Kagome were finally alone. And even though their relationship hasn't progressed much since they finally decided to take it slow a few weeks ago, it was still a great feeling to actually focus on themselves and no one else for the moment.
Reaching the dining room, she looked up and noticed Sesshomaru already sitting down by the chabudai table. Smiling, she walked over and sat beside him. "Hey." She whispered.
"Something the matter?" He asked.
"Yeah. It's just, I was thinking that this is the first time in a while that we have been alone." She smiled softly.
"I do recall your mother and grandfather in the other room." He stated with a cocked brow.
"That's not what I meant." She sighed out. "I mean alone from our friends. Souta is out with Shippo and Tsubaki, and Inuyasha went to see Jak. This is the first time we ever got to be alone together without any of them around us."
"I guess you are right." He answered, messing with the strange blanket that seemed to be placed underneath the chabudai table. "May I ask why there is a blanket under the dining table?"
"It's took keep us warm when we sit at the table." Hana spoke up, walking inside the dining room with tea and some cups. "Believe it or not, but this room tends to get cold even with the heat on."
"Why is that?" He asked the older woman.
"I have no idea, really. Father believes it's demons that lurk around here seeking food. But I think it's just a room without proper air ventilation. That happens with some older homes like this one built in the sixties." Hana informed, placing the tray on the table before them. "Father wanted to make the dumplings in apology. He asked that I come and check up on your two. I think he is worried you might eat his granddaughter's soul." She chuckled lightly.
Face palming, Kagome sighed and shook her head. "When will grandfather realize, not all yokais are bad."
Smiling gently, Hana sighed and looked over at her daughter. "Your grandpa has his reasons, Kagome. And I don't blame either."
"What do you mean?" Kagome asked, curious at the cryptic message her mother said.
"In time, I will tell you." She smiled. "But right now, it's not proper table manners. Tea?" She asked Sesshomaru, offering a cup.
Nodding, Sesshomaru kept watch on the woman until he felt a strange aura from her. Clearing his throat after getting his cup of tea and sipping it, he asked her politely. "Are you a miko?"
"You're very sharp. Course, I don't blame you. Your father is sharp as well, and he too caught on that I was a miko before I even realized it." Hana smiled. "How is Take-san?"
"Last I heard, he is out on a business trip in Russia." Sesshomaru informed.
"Wow, that is far. What does he do?" Kagome asked, feeling very interested in the Taisho family.
Clearing his throat, he looked between both females and replied back. "He is the owner of Taisho Industries, and we have small corporate companies in several countries. He is also one of the five leaders of the yokai races, so he is constantly busy."
"So, he did go through with it, huh?" Hana sighed, taking a sip of her tea. "He married Miyo and went through in his father's steps. We all told him not to, that Tatsu wouldn't have minded taking that spot for him. But Take refused to listen to us and still did what was expected of him."
"You know my mother?" Sesshomaru asked, feeling a bit insecure with his surroundings suddenly.
"Oh yes. I know that woman." Hana spoke coldly. "I wish I didn't know her, because she is just down right horrible to her core." Covering her mouth, she looked over to Sesshomaru and immediately apologized. "I am so sorry. I didn't not mean to speak ill of your mother."
Shrugging, he relaxed instantly once more and took another sip. "It doesn't bother me. She is exactly how you said she is. Horrible to her core."
It was an uncomfortable silence, even after everyone ate the dumplings and went about their business. Both Kagome and Sesshomaru didn't bother to move from their spot in the dining room. They both found it very uncomfortable how much in common they both had with their family history. Tatsu was right, all their parents grew up together as children or even high school. So, how is it that they only found out until recently?
It made no sense to either of them why their family would split if they friendship was so great. It made no sense at all.
Finally, Kagome looked over to Sesshomaru and grabbed onto his hand. "Hey, let's get out of here." She whispered, earning herself a smile from the prince.
Walking out of the dining room, she noticed her mother and grandfather had both decided to take a nap in the living room with the television on. From what Kagome gathered, it was one of their favorite drama shows but a re-run was playing instead.
Walking out the house, they both exhaled a breath they didn't realize they were holding in while walking. Chuckling, Kagome cleared her throat and looked around the shrine she had been so accustomed to growing up. She memorized every detail of the shrine like the back of her hand. Nothing truly had changed since her father passed away, and deep down inside she was glad for it.
Taking Sesshomaru's hand, she finally lead the way towards the back of the shrine were everything was covered with trees and only a small dirt path was seen in the neglected area.
"Where are you taking me?" Sesshomaru asked, amazed at how beautiful and calm the area felt around him. Of course, his family owned a large part of the forest that was in the back of the mansion - but it wasn't as calm and beautiful as it was here at the shrine.
"There is this place I use to come to when I wanted to be left alone." Kagome smiled. "No one ever looked for me, no matter how hard people looked."
"You speak like you've had experience with hiding before." Sesshomaru asked curiously. Suddenly, he felt anger and protection overcoming him, and thoughts of abuse being dealt to Kagome. "Why would you hide, if you don't mind me asking?"
Stopping, she swallowed and turned around. Meeting his eyes, she sighed and spoke up. "When my father died, I wanted to go with him. My family was afraid for me, so they would never let me out of sight. I found this place on accident, and realized that no matter how hard they were searching for me, they never found me. I was practically in front of them, and they never noticed. It was then I found sanctuary away from my problems."
"Why worry them like that?" Sesshomaru asked, wondering why this kind woman before him would make people who care for her worry sick.
"I was selfish." Kagome responded back. As she continued the path, they finally reached the area she called her home. Smiling, she inhaled to gather the scent of the forest around her along with the gentle spring before her with a small waterfall.
Letting go of Sesshomaru's hand, she quickly stripped from her clothing to her tank top and underwear. Shivering from the slight cold air, she turned around and smile before walking into the hot spring and feeling her body come to life from the cold air surrounding her.
Watching her, he couldn't help but feel chills crawl over his skin as he watched Kagome coming to life as the water touched her skin. He could sense so many emotions, but the major ones he felt were of sorrow and joy. Again, she completed baffled him with her contradicting personality. How could one be so happy yet be so sad?
Tears appearing, she quickly dunk her head under water and rushed out from the surface. Swinging her hair back, a whip of water trailing at the ends of her hair, she looked up to gaze at Sesshomaru. "What?" She asked, feeling a bit more self conscious than before.
"You confuse me." Sesshomaru answered, walking closer to the edge while stripping from his own clothing to be left in just his boxers. Stepping inside, he pulled Kagome towards him and wrapped his arms around her while he lost himself in her grey orbs. "Why do you feel sad but happy?"
Swallowing, she felt her heart tense and her stomach clench. Was it that obvious? She had tried so hard to hide that emotion for so long, that she forgot how much Sesshomaru made her vulnerable. She felt so nude before him, because in that moment she knew her wall was stripped down and standing before him was a terrified Kagome.
Tears clouding her eyes, she finally spoke. "When my dad died, I was sad. I couldn't bring myself to be happy. I literally tried to go with him." She croaked, feeling the emotions finally coming up after so many years of being buried. "No one knows. No one."
Lifting his hand up to her cheek, he wiped the tears falling with his thumb and looked into her watery eyes. "I was a little girl, and I dove into the creek. It was late, and I could see the full moon above me. It was so cold. And I held my breath, waiting for the moment to inhale and drown…" His eyes widen at her confession, yet he refused to say anything.
"I was ready to see my dad again. I was ready to be with my daddy. And in that moment, the cold water felt so warm. But I saw something. I saw my mom and brother. And I saw the pain they would be in after I went away. And I couldn't…. I couldn't take my life that night. And so I swam up, and I swam faster and harder, fighting the urge to take in air under water. I couldn't let go yet." She sobbed, feeling her entire shoulders lift from the weight around her. "I reached for the moon, and I got it. I got it."
Holding her tightly, Sesshomaru now understood the weight she carried all these years. Towards the end of her confession, it was almost like she could breath again and part of him was glad that he was here for her. To share that moment with her.
Holding each other tightly, the cold air caressing them with the heat from the spring. Pulling away to look into each other's eyes, Kagome felt her heart skip while Sesshomaru felt his beat. Heat rising, they lost all thought as they immediately sought each other's affection. Holding tightly, devouring each other's lips in a frenzy kiss.
How did it all end up like this? How had she snuck her way into his cold heart? How did she make him want and feel? It left him with so many questions, but for some reason he never thought to seek those answers. He was just glad that he finally felt joy.
Clutching onto him, she felt more alive than ever. She felt her heart soar, and her body rising with each emotion she felt. She no longer felt burden with her past. She no longer felt heavy with sorrow and a dark secret.
Kissing him, she forgot all about her past. He forgot his own misery. They each found peace and comfort in each other, and nothing was going to break that.
Pushing her against the edge of the spring, he continued to devour her sweet kisses, inhaling her intoxicating scent that made his mind drunk with need. Pressing himself against her, feeling her warmth and softness forming against his own body.
The cold air around them was just enough to keep them from sweating. The only thing that heightened their senses more than anything. The air they belonged with since they were young, and all because of a past so horrible, the cold was the only thing to comfort them in the darkness.
Oblivious to the light snow sprinkling around them, they continued to kiss each other until they each had enough of the clothes blocking their way to feel more skin against skin. The thought of being so close to one another, filling their minds with something so unknown - so terrifying - so euphoric.
Taking her tank top off, tossing it behind him and pressing his finger tips against her smooth skin up to her bra. He hissed as he felt her nails digging into his shoulders, throwing her head back to reveal more of herself to him. To show how vulnerable she truly was, and seeking his acceptance.
Their minds drunk with lust and want. The need to feed their emptiness with love. The need to have that part of them sated beyond all, and to erase the past that haunted them fully.
Trying to unhook her bra, he growled lowly in frustration and immediately sliced the back with his claw and pulled the contraption off her chest to reveal the hidden mystery. Growing hard with need, he watch in awe as he looked down at her creamy skin, hand full mounds rising up and down with each breath she took. And those dark, pinkish tips that begged to be tasted.
Nervous, Kagome bit her lower lip as she realized just how open she was. Swallowing, she felt fear pull into her gut as she immediately thought of Sesshomaru. 'What if he pulls away? How can I recover from that if he walks away?'
Sensing her fear, he looked up and saw the insecurity in her eyes. Reaching up, he touched her cheek and watched as she leaned into his palm. "What's the matter?" He asked.
Looking away, she bit her lower lip than finally looked down to her bare self. She was afraid to say it out loud, because then it would be real. Her insecurity would be made real.
Understanding, he rubbed his thumb against her cheek and smile. Without saying another word, he leaned forward and pressed a kiss against her delicate neck. Wet kisses trailed down to her collarbone, nips against her flesh causing her skin to rise in chills. Gasping, she felt her mind run wild as she felt his tongue circle around her nipple and finally being suckled into his mouth.
A soft moan left her lips, her body rubbing mindlessly against his own. He continued to suck against the sensitive nub, then moved on to the next one. Holding her against him, grinding against her between her legs as he continued to taste her sweet skin against his tongue.
The memories of his abuse no longer haunted him. All that remained was the need to have Kagome feel passion, and deep down inside, he wanted to see that memory instead of the nightmares that plagued him. He wanted to see her eyes roll back as her body gave into ecstasy. He wanted to feel her release against him as he pleasured her over and over again.
He wanted to hear his name leaving her lips in a cry of compassion.
Her nails gripped tighter to his shoulder, her body coming to life in a way she never knew possible. She felt alive. She felt free. She felt so much emotions, for a moment her powers came up in a small rift that seemed to singe and comfort both their auras. Paying no mind to it, wondering if it was just a fluke, they continued with their previous actions.
"Oh god…" Kagome whispered, feeling her panties being ripped off her. The slight burn from the fabric rubbed against her soft skin felt slightly painful yet pleasurable. She couldn't explain it, but she wanted more. She wanted more of the powerful male between her legs. At her control.
This felt incredible, especially when she felt herself being pulled up from the spring and onto the snowy ground. Shivering slightly, she leaned back and forgot about the chill the second she felt Sesshomaru's mouth against her wet sex. Losing all train of thought, she looked up to the snowy sky, watching as the snowflakes fell against her wet skin. The cold felt so warm against her.
Her body heating to a flame, she found herself crying out as she felt a strange pull deep within her. Her legs tensing, she found herself trying to fight off the strange urge to pee. She didn't want to be embarrassed.
Sensing her fear, Sesshomaru looked up to kiss her inner thigh and smiled. "Relax. Just let it happen." He told her, placed his tongue back against her wet folds.
The sweet nectar that sated his hunger. The swollen folds that felt so soft against his tongue and lips. The hard clit, erect against his mouth as he continued to flick and suckle against it. Feeling her entire body rising closer to the edge. Wanting her to feel the amazing feel of an orgasm, he careful slipped a finger into her tight sex and groaned against her nether-lips as he continued to eat her out.
Her walls tightening around his finger, her body so close to reaching the end. Her powers finally rising, clashing against Sesshomaru's own aura. Trying his hardest to ignore the strange power around him, trying to help Kagome feel her first orgasm. It wasn't until he found it incredibly hard to breath that he finally pulled away and looked up.
"Kagome?"
Feeling her chest tighten, she looked down finally as she realized something was very wrong. Swallowing, she saw the concern look in his amber eyes and felt fear. "I feel very strange." She whispered, feeling something within her coming to life in a whole new meaning. Her powers awakening.
"What's wrong?" He tried to ask, only to feel the air around him trying to burn him. Hissing, he jumped out of the spring and looked at both his arms that were slightly red in tint. Looking over, he saw the fear rising in Kagome's eyes. It was then he realized… "You're powers?"
Her breath hitched, and she felt another raw wave of powers hitting her. She nodded and quickly raced over to place on her jeans and sweater. "It doesn't make any sense. My powers never done this before." She stated, feeling another wave of her miko powers coming through her in a fluid motion. She fell to her knees and let out a silent scream.
Placing on his own clothing, he pushed the fear of being burned by her powers aside and walked over to her. Fighting her aura with his own, he lifted her into his arms and quickly raced down to her home. "Higurashi-san! Help!" He shouted out as he opened the front door and walked inside with Kagome.
His skin began to show a reddish tint to him, and it wasn't long until Sesshomaru's beast within begged to come out at the threat of danger. Reeling it back in, he finally saw Hana rushing towards the front door where Kagome began to cry out in pain as her powers tried to overcome her with each wave. "Please take her!" Sesshomaru shouted out.
"What happened?" Hana asked, afraid for her daughter as she helped her daughter into her arms. Looking up, she noticed the reddish eyes of Sesshomaru and his demon markings. "What happened, Sesshomaru?" She asked firmly, until she felt her daughter's miko powers pushed against her own aura.
Fear heightening in her eyes, she looked between the two and wanted to curse. "No! Please tell me you two didn't-"
"Mom! It hurts! Make it stop!" Kagome cried out, cutting her mother off from speaking anymore.
"Leave! You can't be here, or you will die!" Hana shouted out towards Sesshomaru.
No wanting to listen to someone calling him weak, it was then that Obito Higurashi grabbed his arm and shook his head. Obeying, he finally followed the old man out the house. Hearing Kagome cry in the home, he wanted so badly to rush back inside and help any way he can, but Hana was right. Any longer and he would have died.
"What's going on?" Sesshomaru asked more to himself than to the grandfather.
Sighing, Obito tapped Sesshoamru's elbow and spoke up. "A miko must learn to bring her powers out through mediation and strict learning. She must harness her powers through the teaching of priesthood. The purity of the soul is what keeps the powers at bay from such raw spiritual powers that could harm the miko without proper discipline and learning." He informed him. "Kagome's grandmother was a miko, who then taught Hana, who Hana than tried to teach Kagome. It is said that most miko's don't usually marry or have children."
"The reason for it, well, this is why. When a miko who hasn't brought out their own powers by themselves, the powers become overwhelming that can lead to killing them and those around them. Losing their virginity or engaging in sexual acts breaks the purity spell that binds the soul and spiritual power from every harming the subjects." Obito finished off.
"I did this to her?" Sesshomaru asked, feeling terrible for doing something so wrong that brought harm to the one woman he loved completely.
"No." Obito stated quickly. "You didn't do this! This was done by a goddess back in the Feudal era. And this is also Hana's fault for not informing Kagome about this terrible thing. All could have been prevented if Hana wasn't so afraid of telling her daughter, and if Kagome wasn't so carefree. Wild spirits those two are, but courageous either way."
"So, what do we do?" The prince asked, almost afraid of the answer.
"You do nothing! There is nothing you can do! But go home and wait this out. If everything fairs well, Kagome will come to you." The old man stated. "Go home, son. And pray…"
After what felt like days, only a few went by as Hana helped her daughter learn to control her powers. It will always be a learning progress, but at least Kagome didn't hold the fear that Hana held inside. There was fear, but it wasn't one of being afraid of your own shadow.
She was outraged that her daughter was being more romantic with Take's eldest son, but there was nothing she could do about it. Love knows no bounds, but that didn't mean she wouldn't ground her daughter. Hopefully this will teach the two to at least wait until they graduated high school.
Sighing, she watched as her daughter was fast asleep on the couch. The only sleep she truly had in the past few days really. Grabbing her cell phone, she dialed Tatsu's number and waited until he picked up. "Hey, we need to talk."
"Is it important?" Tatsu asked, trying to muffle his laughter.
"Tatsu, are you seriously high right now?" Hana sighed, rolling her eyes as she began to lightly chuckle along with her friend. "Typical."
"Hey, it calms the wind." Tatsu snickered. Clearing his throat, he mumbled something than spoke back to Hana. "Daisuke said to come over. No, Suke, I will not stick my finger in there." He snickered hysterically while talking over to Daisuke.
Shaking her head, she hung up and headed for the door. Looking back, she noticed her father with a worried look. "Don't worry, father. It's time I face my past, especially since I can't knock the feeling that my daughter might be in danger."
"Just be careful, Hana-chan." Obito looked down, feeling his heart aching with worry.
"I will. Just keep an eye on Kagome, and don't let her go anyway. Not until she can control her powers." Obito nodded, and she smiled once more before heading out the door.
The ride had been intense on the way to the last place Hana vowed to ever visit again. It wasn't that the place brought terrible memories, but Daisuke was the last person she ever wanted to see again since the death of Ryuu.
All those years, she had told Daisuke and Take that Miyo, Sakura and Kirai were up to no good. She told them that something wasn't right, and they didn't listen. Daisuke refused to listen to her. And Take never paid any mind as he focused on taking his father's steps.
Now, Ryuu, Akira and Izayoi were both dead. And she knew deep in her gut that those three bitches had something to do with it. Their deaths wasn't a coincidence. It was too played out for that to even happen! There was something behind it all, and after Ryuu's funeral, she argued with Daisuke until she gave up. Her friendship with her childhood friend - gone in a blink of an eye.
It was then that she claimed she wanted no part of the Hayashi family ever. Ryuu wanted no part of it, and she was going to keep that promise to him. Daisuke proved to be just like his father. Heartless in the end.
Now, after years of keeping the distance, she wasn't sure how to react. She wasn't ready to meet her past again. Tatsu was enough of a bump already in her life. All she ever wanted was the past to remain buried, because nothing good will come from it.
Yet, here she was standing outside the last person's home of who she never wanted to see again. Inhaling slowly, she lifted her hand and knocked on Daisuke's front door to his incredible mansion. Unlike other Japanese mansions, Daisuke preferred a more modern feel. What was once considered the Hayashi main family home was now a summer home outside of Tokyo.
In a way, she was grateful about that change. This home, it didn't remind of her the memories she once held with everyone she held so dear in the past. And it most certainly didn't remind her of Ryuu.
Suddenly, the door creaked opened to reveal an older man who stood quite tall for a average Japanese male. Dressed in the normal butler attire, he kept his head bowed and finally began to speak. "Evening Higurashi-sama. This way please."
"How do you know my name?" Hana quickly asked, wondering how was it the butler knew he was even talking to the correct person.
"It seems the years have taken it's toll on me, if my most favorite person does not remember me." Ishida smiled while looking up finally to look at the much older Hana Higurashi. "Ryuu-sama was the young master before he left, and I was the only one who wished the both of you happiness."
Her eyes widen as she looked up at the male closely and realized how much the younger butler had changed over the years. Smiling, she reached up to pull him into a hug and sighed. "How have you been? I never thought I'd see you again."
Returning the hug, Ishida pulled back a bit to look into Hana's eyes. "I've been here, serving the Hayashi family. I heard about Ryuu, and I like to share my condolences even if it's a very late one."
"Thank you, but it's alright. He's at peace now, and that's all that matters." She smiled. "Now, where is he?" She finally asked, dreading the answer.
Releasing her slowly, Ishida bowed his head and turned on his heel to lead her to the main study where both Daisuke and Tatsu will be. "Are you still mad at him?" He asked curiously.
"As much as I shouldn't be, that I should let it go, I just can't. Daisuke refuse to listen, and because of that, his brother died." Hana said, feeling like she was repeating herself all over again.
"I hope you will one day forgive him." Ishida gave a sadden smile.
"I hope so too." Hana stated.
Walking in silence down the long halls, they finally reached the study where Daisuke and Ryuu were in. Opening the door, Hana walked inside and felt her entire come to a stop. The urge to just turn around and walk away was so strong, but she refused to give in. This was a matter that needed to be settled.
"Hana…" Daisuke turned around, frozen in place behind his desk as his eyes met with Hana's. "I…"
"What?" She asked, finally feeling her willpower coming back into her body. "You shocked that I came?"
He wasn't sure what to say. Standing before him was his brother's wife - his best friend - the one woman who tried to warn him about everything but he refused. The woman he knew he had no right to ever see again. His tongue tied, his throat dried, he felt completely useless in the presence of Hana.
"All these years, and you still can't say anything?" Hana scoffed, rolling her eyes and feeling her powers surging to life. She needed to calm down. If not for herself and Tatsu, but her nephew as well if Shippo was even home.
"That's not what I meant, Hana…" Daisuke stated quickly, rising to his feet. "I just never expected you to come here. Knowing what I did. How I treated you? It shocks me, yes, to see that you still came here knowing you will be coming to my home."
"What happened between you two?" Tatsu asked, curious on how a great friendship like theirs had fallen.
"Nothing." Hana stated, trying to reel back her emotions and powers.
"Everything." Daisuke said in unison with Hana's reply. Looking up, he swallowed and looked back down in shame.
"If you two don't start talking, I'm going to walk away from here and never come back." Tatsu stated firmly, rising to his feet and looking between the two. "Weren't we friends before? What in the world happened to you guys? I come back and suddenly find out that everyone split apart, even Masatoshi won't even talk to me! Masatoshi of all people won't even talk to anyone! What in the world is going on?"
The two looked down, realizing that the only one oblivious to everything was the one still holding on hope that there was something between all of them. Sighing, Hana finally walked into the study while patting Ishida's shoulder to let him know he can go back to his regular duties. Coming over to the available seat beside Tatsu and in front of Daisuke, she sat down and finally spoke up. "You remember the accident that took Ryuu's, Akira's and Izayoi's life?"
"Yeah. How can I forget? It was on the news all over Japan, and it still bothers me how two cars holding our friends happen to get into a wreck with each other? In the part of town that neither of them would be caught dead in!" Suddenly, the realization finally sat in and Tatsu looked between the two and felt a stab of betrayal hit. "Did you guys have anything to do with it? Is this why you can't be in the same room together?"
"What? No!" Hana shouted out, standing on her feet and feeling her anger rise at such an accusation. "I tried to warn everyone that something was wrong! I told Daisuke and everyone that there was something fishy with Miyo and her little clique! But no one listened! No one!" She glared over to Daisuke, feeling her anger slipping and her powers surging out, stinging Tatsu's skin.
Hissing in pain, the yokai quickly back away to the furthest wall and looked over to Hana. "Calm down, Hana! Shippo is here!"
Feeling her rage rising more and more, she finally registered Tatsu's words and fought to calm down once more. The last thing she ever wanted was to hurt an innocent. Tears building up, she finally controlled her powers and looked over to Tatsu. "I am sorry, but if you want to know why we broke up? Why the friendships we held so dear back then is no longer in existence, is because everyone refused to listen to me."
"What do you mean?" Tatsu asked, slowly walking back over to the desk.
"She means we didn't listen to her. She says Miyo, Sakura and Kirai were up to something. I was too preoccupied trying to achieve my father's legacy and well, everyone else was too preoccupied with other things. After the death of our friends, Hana said it had to be them. I didn't believe her." Daisuke looked down. "I couldn't."
"Did they have something to do with their deaths?" Tatsu asked.
"I don't know." Daisuke asked.
"It had to be them." Hana stated. "And right now, I can't help but fight the feeling that something is going to happen to our children because of them."
"Alright. What should we do?" Tatsu asked.
"I don't know." Hana stated hopelessly. "But we have to do something. This is our fight. Not theirs. We have to protect our children from those terrible bitches."
"Well, Kirai died." Daisuke stated. "And I haven't heard from Sakura after kicking her out and finalizing the divorce."
"What about Miyo?" Tatsu asked.
"The only one who knows anything will be Take." Daisuke stated. "And the last I heard, he's out of Japan for the next two weeks."
"So what now?" Hana and Tatsu asked, both trying to figure out a plan.
"I think I know." Daisuke stated. "But I know our kids are not going to like it."
The birds continued to chirp away outside causing a peaceful melody around the shrine. After so much damage had been done, it was hard to believe that good still existed in this world. Watching in awe, Kagome continued to practice to control her raw powers until eventually she manage to release enough of it without it harming her again.
Sighing, she began to think of Sesshomaru and the damage that had been done. Would he even talk to her again? Let alone see her!? It was driving her insane, and again her powers began to surge out beyond her control. Hissing from the pressure she felt against her chest cause from the power pull, she fought against it and gained some control. It was a constant battle the past week, but she was managing.
Luckily, her school wasn't so strict about her missing one week. If anything, she would have to thank her uncle for even making that possible. With Satomi no longer in school, Kagome feared there wouldn't be that power leverage but she forgotten about her cousin, Shippo. Apparently, that little fox isn't as innocent as she thought. He knew politics and how to get exactly what he wanted. In this case, it sure helped Kagome with her school.
With everything going on, the last thing she wanted was to miss the biggest opportunity in life - to graduate the top of her class and succeed in becoming an Olympic Swimmer. Part of her even understood that could be a very big chance of not even making money from her life-long dream, which is why she knew she needed to do something more productive.
If her father taught her anything, it was to always be prepared. Falling is inevitable, but staying down is failure.
Sighing, she finally felt her powers calming down and she was able to breath again. The training her mother placed her on was very intense, but it worked. She knew if it wasn't for her mother, she was sure to lose control and probably end up very hurt. Who knew Miko's were so powerful? Life's greatest mysterious.
Looking up, she noticed someone coming up the long stairs towards the public shrine. Furrowing her brows, she lifted up onto her feet to get a much better look. The sun was quite bright today, which gave a similar cold warmth, that Kagome loved during this season. But the brightness of the sun and clouds always blinded her at times.
"Hello?" She finally called out, getting the attention of the visitor.
Walking up the steps to the one place he found solace in, Kouga caught a faint voice in the distance. Turning towards the noise, his eyes finally landed on the unexpected person he never thought he'd ever see again. "What the…" Who would have thought that this shrine belonged to the Higurashi family? Well, he knew it belonged to Obito Higurashi, but it never occurred to him that Kagome could be related to the guy.
Dressed in her miko shrine outift, Kagome walked over to the guest with a smile on her face until she noticed who it was exactly. Swallowing hard, she locked onto those familiar cobalt eyes of his and froze. "Oh, hey…" She felt the need to instantly face palm and curse her rudeness, but now wasn't the time to do any of that. If she remembered correctly, Kouga was a yokai. And with her powers being the way they are, she couldn't risk harming him. "Is there anything you need help with?" She finally asked, trying to recover from her cruel remark.
He needed to leave. Part of him just wanted to just ignore her and leave the shrine, but he couldn't do it. After all the cruel things he had done, he had to do something different. It was why he came to this shrine in the first place! Since the winter trip, he came here trying to gain solace and closure after the death of his best friends and harming Naraku. Everything in his life was so simple then, and he even receive moral support from Obito - which in the beginning was not an easy thing to do.
Hell, he was sure there was still that black sand that the old man had thrown at him before. And even though they came to a mutual agreement, he was still greeted by some type of paper scroll with spell binding that didn't work by the old man. It actually amused Kouga.
Standing there, deciding what to do next, he finally gave in and looked at the miko. "Is Obito-sama here?" He asked, deciding that if the old man wasn't around, there was no reason for him to stick around. He'll just have to find solace elsewhere.
"Oh, no. My grandpa is actually running errands and asked that I watch the shrine. Did you need help?" Kagome asked, wondering what the yakuza heir wanted with her grandfather? Last time she checked, grandpa hadn't been gambling since his late teen years. He did always like to talk about those days like they were yesterday. Figuring the need to ask, she cleared her throat and presented the question to him. "Is this about money issues?"
For a moment, he wanted to look at her like she was insane. Why in the world would this have to do with money? But he realized his occupation and his family history, and gave an exasperated sigh. He truly needed to clear his name if he wanted to turn over a new leaf. "No." He replied back.
"Oh." Again, silence ran between them, developing such an awkward setting. "Well, what did you need? Maybe I can help?" Kagome finally asked, not really sitting well with either idea of Kouga being here and offering to help him.
"It's nothing. Forget it." Kouga stated, turning around only to be stopped by a hand on his elbow. Tensing, he turning around and stared at the girl as though he had been burned. In fact, he swore he felt something burn him. It wasn't enough to hurt him, but it was there. "Did you just burn me?" He asked, wondering if this could just be his imagination.
Swallowing hard, she felt her powers rising up slowly in anticipation of fear. She hadn't meant to harm Kouga. It was not was she meant to do at all. If just a small touch could hurt Kouga, she truly had no business in seeing Sesshomaru.
And it hit her. The thought of never see him, or any of her friends again hurt her. She felt her heart break, and the pressure of her aura rose with her emotions. Tears forming in her eyes, she felt her breath leaving her as the emotional punch to her gut left her motionless.
Why did she have to be a monster? It was unfair!
Feeling the amount of energy surrounding him, he felt the need to high tail it out of there. Her aura was now clashing with his, and for a moment he felt the burning sting of it. It was then that he realized that Kagome was a true miko. He knew he had to leave immediately, or he would die in the process of standing her like an idiot but her tears caught him.
Why was she crying? What was wrong?
Not sure what to do, he reached over and ignored the burning stings to his hands as he laid them onto her shoulders. "Hey! Calm down! Come on, work with me!" He shouted out, trying to break through to her.
It was useless. Even with Kouga trying to help her come to her sense, the thought of losing everyone she came to love and care for was hurting her. But what hurt the most was losing Sesshomaru. She would never get to see him again. The ache felt so enormous, she couldn't hold back her frustrations. "I'm a monster!" She cried out to Kouga. "Because of who I am, I can't see him anymore."
The pain traveled over into her aura and to Kouga's. Feeling the anguish she was suffering made him cripple to his knees. The pain of her aura crushing him almost made his beast within surge to life and protect himself. But he held back. He had to hold back. It wasn't Kagome's fault. She needed to control it, and who better to help her than someone who once had problems with his own inner demons.
Since childhood, he always fought against the beast within. Anger drove him, and hurt to others satisfied him. Those who were weak were considered prey. It was all part of being born a wolf, but it wasn't until very recently that he knew that wasn't it. There was more to it than that.
Wolf was meant to be honorable. And it was Obito who told him that. It was the old man who taught him that evil wasn't born, but made. Just because he was born a demon wolf didn't make him one. And being with Kagura prove that.
"You can fight this!" Kouga finally shouted out, trying to fight against her aura. In normal circumstances, he wouldn't have crumbled this quickly, but since this was on holy ground he was losing the battle. If she didn't stop her turmoil and gain control quickly, he knew for sure he wouldn't last another minute.
Clutching onto her shoulders, he looked up and called out to her again. "Kagome! Fight this!" He shouted out, bringing her to her knees as well from his weight. "Gain control!"
"I can't!" She cried out, lost in her emotional stated of pain and suffering. She was a monster. Why would something that is meant to protect be so harmful? It made no sense to her!
"Kagome! You have to fight this! You aren't a monster! I know, because I thought the same about myself, too! You are only a monster if you give up!" Kouga shouted out, feeling the weight of his aura being crushed more and more. "Please, control it! You're starting to kill me!"
Suddenly, everything froze in place and Kagome felt herself being pulled away from everything. Watching in confusion, she looked around to see that she was still at the shrine, but what shocked her most was seeing herself on her knees along with Kouga in front of her. "What's going on?" She asked, walked towards herself and him, seeing Kouga fighting for his life but still trying to help her.
"Kagome." She heard a faint whisper behind her. Turning around, she paused as she noticed a elderly woman who gave a faint resemblance to her mother.
"Who are you?" She asked, curious at who could have done any of this time stopping.
"I'm your great-grandmother, child." The woman smiled, walking towards Kagome.
"How?"
"Don't worry, just know that I am here to help you." She spoke softly, reaching up to touch Kagome's cheek. A single tear left her eye as she gazed into the eyes of her loving great-grandchild. "You can win this. I know, because your mother won this battle herself. It's in our blood, child. We are fighters, but not monsters. We fight to protect the ones we love most. Fear is your greatest enemy, and so is doubt. Let go of the fear, and find your strength."
"But how? How can I find the strength? I am losing everyone I love, because of this horrible power!" She cried out, feeling dread and loss all over again.
Touching her cheek, the elderly woman refused to let go as she only smiled at the troubled girl. "Our power is only dangerous when we lose hope."
Looking up at her, Kagome finally understood what she meant. It wasn't about controlling such a raw source. It wasn't about fearing of losing her friends because of who she had become.
Her biggest fear was losing hope in herself. Seeing herself as a monster, instead of what she truly was - a protector. That was the key to controlling this power.
A key so hard to turn when all is believed to be lost.
Swallowing, she looked up to her great-grandmother and smiled. "I understand now." She whispered, feeling the power within her finally becoming part of her. She finally felt herself breathing in relief.
Opening her eyes, she noticed the familiar cobalt eyes that belonged to a certain wolf. He held a smile that was so contagious, she couldn't help but smile back. "See, what I tell you." He stated, helping them both onto their feet.
"We're not monsters." She smiled widely.
"We never were." Kouga stated. "If we allowed our dark thoughts to rule over us, we wouldn't be standing here."
Smiling, she nodded in agreement. "You're right." Letting out a breath of air, she looked around and finally felt like herself again - only this time with strength she never felt before. She felt alive for once, in a way that made her feel she could conquer anything. "Thank you, Kouga." She whispered to him. 'And thank you, great-grandma. For not letting me lose hope.'
