DEAR FANS AND READERS,
I’m sorry. I had writers block. Horrible. Horrible. Writers Block. I can see the end of my story, but not the bridge to get it there. I had to take some time to really think. I hope you can call forgive me. Here is your next chapter. Please review. Please help me. (Slams head on desk) “Ghost” by Ingrid Michaelson Chapter 28: I’m a ghost, haunting these halls. Tsuki found herself standing in the middle of the street. The wind was blowing and she could feel blood weeping from tiny wounds on her face and arms. With a sudden kick Tsuki grabbed at her stomach. Another gust of energy flew threw her face, lifting her hair back, her eyes uncontrollably tearing at the sheer force. There was an ominous feeling in the air. She held her arms up to shield her eyes but felt her feet skidding against the asphalt, almost being knocked off her feet by the sheer force. Once it seemed that the clouds and storm had cleared Tsuki lowered her hands. Standing before her was the silhouette of someone. It was hard to see with the dust clouds clearing, but the individual had long hair, reaching all the way down to the ankles. But that wasn’t what surprised Tsuki. What surprised her instead was the blood, dripping down the back of the silhouette’s shirt. Tsuki reached out to call for the person, but the wind kicked up again, and her voice was silenced by the noise even as she screamed. Tsuki’s eyes fluttered open and focused. She was immediately confused; her view from the floor was of beneath the bed, full of dust balls and a lost sock. She let out a groan and lifted her face off the floor, her cheek red with the grooves anyway. After dusting herself off and stretching her hands above her head Tsuki saw the note on the mirror and leapt back, catching herself on the edge of the bed. I Can See You While I’m Sleeping. Tsuki looked at her hand and saw the smeared lipstick and then at the mirror. Her eyes were still red, her fangs still clear; it was all still Tsuki in control, demon and all. “Kagome?” She knocked on the glass of the mirror, “Kagome, can you hear me?” Tsuki stared back at her reflection. Nothing happened. She knocked once more and the image rippled slightly but only returned to Tsuki’s reflection. After nothing Tsuki turned and walked towards the kitchen. She failed to see the mirror ripple again before calming. The fridge was still empty and Tsuki growled. After some stumbling and fumbling she came across Kagome’s checkbook. While she had been with Kagome when they grocery shop, she never paid attention to what kind of money she’d spent. Tsuki found Kagome’s phone on the table and opened it, dialing. “Yes, of course it is I. I’m bored and I’m hungry. Care to entertain me?” -- Inuyasha woke up and stared at the ceiling. His mind was still replaying the events from the night before. How could Kikyo have been waiting for a wedding ring all this time? There was no indication of that, ever, ever. He slapped his hands over his eyes and sighed. He rolled over on his in his bed and saw his phone was blinking a green signal; a message was waiting for him. With one hand he flipped open the phone and brought up his voicemail. There was nothing but a few crackles…a few deep breathes…and then something that sounded like a choked cry. The line went dead after that. He looked at his caller-ID and saw that the call had come from Kagome. Why had she called and not said anything? Maybe it was one of those phantom-pocket dials? The phone flipped shut and resumed its place on the counter. He stared at the ceiling a little while longer before finally standing up. The door was thrown open and he stormed out. -- Sango woke up in Miroku’s bed, sad to see that his place beside hers was already empty. She sat up and tied back the tangled mess of her hair, yawning. Much to her relief she found Miroku exiting the bathroom with a towel ruffling the back of his head. Miroku smiled weakly and waved, “Morning.” She pulled the covers up to her neck and hid behind them, still feeling nervous about the altercation last night at the café with Koga. “Hi.” Miroku picked up a coffee mug beside his open laptop and took a sip of it. He draped the towel on the back of the chair and cleared his throat; “I’m getting brunch with Inuyasha later. You know, he’s been taking a lot of photographs with the camera you leant him. Maybe you should come see a few?” Sango gave a small smile and nodded, “He won’t be nearly as good as Kagome.” That made Miroku laugh, “That’s like comparing a toddler to a genius. Which reminds me, I’m pretty excited to see her exhibit.” “I am too.” Sango smiled and rested her head on her knees, “I can’t believe we’re heading back tomorrow.” Miroku looked around his room, which was already mostly packed, “I’m ready to get out of here.” He sat down next to her on the bed and sighed, “I want to start new----“ “Can I tell you something?” Surprised to be cut-off, Miroku nodded and took another sip of his coffee. “When you left last night, Koga he uh, he sensed someone was coming. Next thing I know this redheaded girl was staring at me and yelling, asking where Koga was.” “Angry girlfriend?” Miroku teased. When she was silent Miroku ruffled the top of her head, “What’s wrong now?” “She had a ring on her finger. I think it was an engagement ring.” Miroku left his hand on her head and leaned back against the headboard. “Well, you don’t have to assume that she is Koga’s fiancé.” Sango brightened, “She said her name was Ayame, she works with him.” “See, a coworker. Nothing to worry about.” He pecked the top of her head and squeezed her to his chest. “But please, stop worrying about Koga okay? Did you come all the way to America for me or did you come for Koga?” Sango’s jaw dropped. She punched his chest lightly and bit her lip. “I came here for you, stupid. How could you even ask that?” “Because you’ve talked more about Koga than me.” He rose from the bed and chuckled, “At least you’ve had sex with me. Or have you snuck away and had a secret date with him?” He wiggled his eyebrows at her before opening the front door. He closed the door before the pillow hit the door, his laughter drifted with him down the hallway. -- Koga sat in his office tapping his pen on the table. There was nothing on his desk but piles of paperwork and a cup of coffee. Underneath all of the paperwork as a plane ticket, it taunted him, with the little international label up at the top of the print out. There was a knock at his office door. Koga looked up and tried to casually cover his ticket when the fireball from the night before, Ayame, appeared. “Are you ready for our presentation next week?” He looked up and glared, “Presentation?” She tapped her pointed black shoe against the floor with impatience. “Have you ignored all the e-mails your mother has sent us? We’re meeting with the executives next week to pitch the new product.” She crossed her arms and blew on her bangs, “You know. On Monday?” Koga’s face paled slightly but he cleared his throat, trying to play on a poker face. “Can’t do Monday.” “Koga! You can’t do that! You don’t make the decisions.” She slammed her hand down on his table, the coffee cup shaking. Koga pulled on one of his ears, growling at her, “I don’t want this. Can’t I at least make that decision?” “NO!” she shouted incredulously, “You lost the privilege to your life when you decided to throw away protocol and try and marry a human while your parents were gone.” Koga’s eyes bled red, “I didn’t marry her. I fell in love with her.” Ayame threw her head back and laughed, “OH, I’m sorry, you, fell in love, with a poor weak human even though your entire upbringing, family, and society told you not to? Did you enjoy putting your hand in the fire?” She turned and opened his office door, turning back to him before leaving, “You got burned, Koga. I wouldn’t be expecting any favors.” -- Tsuki stood in the local grocery store holding two heads of lettuce. She turned to Sesshomaru who looked dreadfully bored, clicking through messages on his phone. “How do I know which of these is safe to eat?” “This Sesshomaru has servants deliver his groceries. He knows not what proper produce looks like. But they both smell fine.” Tsuki sighed and yanked his phone from his hand, “You are being no help.” “Am I obligated to help you?” he growled, pulling the phone back from her. “Why did you come then?” Sesshomaru rolled his eyes and smirked, “You asked if this Sesshomaru could entertain you. Surely this Sesshomaru has more creative means than grocery shopping.” “Work before play, do you not know that?” Tsuki chuckled lightly, placing one of the lettuce heads in her basket. He let out a small grunt and leaned over, pecking her cheek. She nearly dropped the tomato in her hand as he casually walked away, waving his phone over his head. “This Sesshomaru has a business call. Finish this mundane shopping.” Tsuki watched him leave, feeling the heat in her face. She couldn’t contain the smile on her face. She was about to return to her tomatoes when a man appeared in front of her. “Kagome-chan. What a surprise.” Tsuki narrowed her eyes, confused, at the man who stood in front of her. It was none other than Hojo, Kagome’s boss from the museum. He had a goofy smile and moppy brown hair. “It’s good to see you out and about. That must mean you’ve recovered nicely.” “Uh, yes, that’s right,” Tsuki forced a smile and waved the tomato in her hand. “Just doing some shopping.” “That’s great! I heard tomatoes were a great natural remedy for eyes. Your eyes are kind of red. Maybe the tomatoes will help.” Tsuki couldn’t believe this guy. She looked away and put a tomato in her basket. “I hope my vision remains sharp.” “I’m sure it will! Are you excited for your exhibition?” Tsuki turned back to him, confused, “My exhibition?” “Of course you’re excited, what am I even asking?” Hojo held his sides and laughed. “It’s only a couple days away. Have you prepared a speech?” Tsuki forced a smile, “The speech is coming along nicely.” “Don’t forget to wear something nice!” He held up his basket and chuckled, “I gotta head out and grab some more groceries. See you in a few days, Kagome!” Tsuki found herself alone in the isle looking down at the tomato in her hand. Whether it was anger or sadness that bubbled inside her chest her hand clenched, breaking the tomato in her hand, tears brimming her eyes. “My name is Tsuki. I’m not Kagome. She’s gone now. I am not Kagome.” She failed to notice the darkened aura that billowed around her. -- Inuyasha pulled out a chair and sat across from Miroku, who was already on his second coffee. “Sorry I’m late.” Miroku shrugged, “You’re the one picking up the tab anyway.” He sat back in his chair and smiled, “Is this the time for our touching farewell?” Inuyasha cracked a smile; “I promise I won’t cry a river over you.” Inuyasha opened the menu and scanned it quickly, not sure what he wanted. “Things are okay with you and Sango now?” Miroku let out a loud sigh and tugged at his hair, “Damnit, Inuysaha, it’s like she’s developed a sick new addiction and I can’t stand it.” “Should we put her on that reality television show?” Miroku sipped the coffee and leaned back in his chair. “So what’s up?” “Kikyo said she wanted a wedding ring.” Miroku dropped his coffee cup. Before it hit the table beneath the two Inuyasha reached out and caught the cup. Inuyasha chuckled and put the cup down gently. “I’m glad you’re taking it better than I am.” “Where on earth did this come from?” Miroku cleared his throat. This was a huge moment. He put his phone away and sat forward, leaning over his wrists on the table. “She just demanded one? Or did she propose to you?” Inuyasha sipped at the coffee he had saved as calm as could be. “She said three years ago she was waiting for a ring. So when career came she took it cause there was no ring.” “When did wedding rings become the new leashes? Is she serious?” Inuyasha looked down at the cup and then turned his head to look out the window. “I don’t think I can stay here.” Miroku looked at his friend but said nothing. Inuyasha’s voice had been so quiet. It was so unlike the brash best friend he knew. Inuyasha seemed contemplative, like his eyes were searching for something outside. “Then you know what you want to do?” Inuyasha rested his forehead on his fists, “Not really, no.” “That’s typical of you,” Miroku chuckled. “At the same time, I think you know what you want to do, but you don’t want to say it.” “Kagome found the relic.” Miroku perked, “She did? So they’ll be separated? That’s great news!” Miroku began to dig for his phone to call Sango. “Miroku, don’t.” That surprised Miroku. He put down his phone on the table and looked at him with raised eyebrows. “Miroku. When I called Kagome I only heard Tsuki. From what she said Kagome hasn’t been seen or heard since she put the relic on.” “Well, that has to be normal, right?” Miroku honestly had no idea what he was talking about. Inuyasha pushed the coffee back to his friend and looked to the window again, “I got a voicemail from her this morning though. Well, from Kagome’s number, but she didn’t say anything. It sounded like she was trying to say something…” “She probably butt dialed you, it’s not uncommon,” Miroku laughed and leaned back in his chair. “I’m not sure why we were so serious, didn’t you tell Kagome you were going away for only three weeks anyway?” “Well, yeah.” Inuyasha let out a sigh, “So I should just go back. It wouldn’t be that surprising…” Miroku reached over and hit his friend upside the head, “What is it? What?” Inuyasha finally smiled, “I finally think I know what I want to order. Lets get burgers. -- Sango sat Miroku’s desk and opened up her phone slowly then dialed. She sat there, twirling her finger around a chunk of her hair, and listened to the ringing. When the voicemail cued Sango sighed but then forced a smile, as if the phone could see her, “Hi Kagome. It’s me. I just wanted to see if you were going to be picking up Miroku and I from the airport in two days. I can’t wait to see you! Hope everything is going well. Don’t freak out about your showcase, we’ll be there rooting you on…I miss you. Bye.” -- Kagome’s body floated above the bed. Her eyes opened slowly. She lifted her left hand just slightly and parted her lips. “Tsuki.” A stream of black blood trickled down the side of her lips -- I know it’s short.
