Chapter 2
Kagome had come back to the feudal era a week ago. The very
same day she had bumped into her ‘dead’ brother Yusuke. She was still angry at him for never telling her that he was alive, but she was
also deeply hurt. There were on the trail looking for Nuraku.
The Jewel was almost complete, only very few shards were still missing. The
final battle will be fought soon. As they were walking
along a trail, Inuyasha stiffened and got into a fighting position.
“Inuyasha? What’s wrong?” Kagome
asked, she hadn’t been paying attention to her
surroundings so had not noticed the aura or scent of another demon.
“It’s Sesshoumaru. What does that bastard want now.” He said angrily, just itching for a fight.
“Inuyasha, you will not start a fight with him. We will see
what he wants first.” Kagome demanded.
“Hn. Don’t blame me if he kills you
then.” He grunted out.
Kagome only smiled at him. Soon they came across Sesshoumaru, he was just standing on the trail waiting for
them to catch up. Before Inuyasha could be his regular rude self, Kagome stood
in front of him to address Sesshoumaru.
“My Lord Sesshoumaru. To what do we
owe this pleasure.” Kagome said formally, while
grinning at the stoic Taiyoukai.
Sesshoumaru cast a speculative gaze on her. “I have come to
join your ranks. I have left Rin
and Jaken at my castle where they should be safe. Now
my only duty is to see to the safety of you and your kit.” He said stoically,
causing every one in the group besides Kagome and Shippou, to shout “What!” in
surprise. They were all thinking the same thing. Why would this powerful demon
consider it his ‘duty’ to protect Kagome and Shippou.
Kagome sighed, and glared at Sesshoumaru. She had yet to
inform her group of the ritual that had taken place. “Oi
wench. What does that bastard mean his duty to protect you and Shippou? Since
when did you two come under his protection.” Inuyasha
demanded harshly. His pride hurt.
“Oh hush Inuyasha. I’ve been
meaning to tell you. I really have, but I just knew you weren’t going to like
it.” Kagome said sheepishly. Well seeing as how they were about to find out
about her and Shippou’s connection to Sesshoumaru,
Kagome couldn’t restrain herself. She needed to be held by her older brother Sesshoumaru. Yeah her little
brother Sota loves her very much, and she new that he
wouldn’t let her down. But
she also needed the reassurance of an older brother. One who knew about life. The rejection from Yusuke still hurt, and she just
needed reassurance. So that being the case, to the shock of all, except for
Shippou, Kagome practically jumped on the Taiyoukai.
If the group was in shock before, this was beyond that.
Inuyasha, along with Miroku, and Sango fainted. Kirara was just sitting down
licking her paws. She found out about this one night, when she was curious as
to why Kagome kept sneaking out late at night after everyone was asleep. If
Sesshoumaru was shocked he didn’t show it. He merely
hugged her back with his one arm. Kagome just tightened her hold on him and
started sobbing. Shippou and Kirara came to her side and tried to comfort her
as well. She couldn’t hold her pain in anymore. She
wanted, she needed to understand why her brother would just reject her the way
he did. Why didn’t he want her in his life anymore?
Why didn’t he at least let her know that he was alive?
She had so many questions, but she was so afraid of his continual rejection
that she would hold true to her word and not acknowledge
him. As far as he was concerned, he was dead to her. It was what he wanted
after all.
As Kagome was finally starting to calm, the group was
finally rousing. When they finally managed to sit up, they almost fainted again
as they saw the powerful demon lord trying to console a crying Kagome, along
with Shippou and Kirara. Inuyasha being his usual brash self, instantly jumped
up and unsheathed his Tetsaiga. He thought that the
demon lord meant to do harm to Kagome.
“Kagome quick get away from that bastard!” Inuyasha yelled.
Without looking up, Kagome simply cried out “Inuyasha, sit
boy.” And down went Inuyasha, hitting the ground with
a loud and painful thump. The Miko was so distraught that she accidentally made
the spell stronger than usual.
“What was that for.” He whined from
his place on the ground, struggling to get up.
“For being stupid.” She mumbled to
herself. Unfortunately Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru heard
her. Sesshoumaru smirked at his half brother. He didn’t
hate Inuyasha, but he did hold a great affection for him either. In his
opinion, Inuyasha needed to be trained and curved from
his reckless and brash ways. It was bound to get him into some very deep
trouble.
“Sister, what has you so heartbroken.” Sesshoumaru asked.
“Yeah, Mommy. What’s wrong?”
Shippou asked Kagome.
Miroku and Sango were finally able to stand up, but were to cautious to actually approach the Demon lord just yet.
“Miroku, is it just me, or did something happen when we
weren’t looking.” Sango asked.
“It’s does appear that we missed
something my dear Sango.” Miroku replied confused.
“Can I tell you later? Please?” Kagome asked.
Sesshoumaru sighed. He really wanted to know, but understood
her need for privacy. “Very well Miko. But I believe you owe your companions
some explanations.” He said causing Kagome to laugh some what
sheepishly.
“Yeah I do, don’t I?” Kagome turned around out of Sesshoumaru’s embrace and faced her confused looking
companions. Sango and Miroku were standing with confusion clearly written on
their expressions. Though it was Inuyasha’s face that
made her feel the guiltiest. There he was sitting on the ground, looking not
only confused, but hurt as well.
Kagome looked at them all, but especially Inuyasha. What she
was going to say, was going to hurt Inuyasha. “I
really did mean to tell you guys earlier. I really
did. It’s just that, well, I was worried how Inuyasha
was going to take it. It would affect him most of all.” Kagome started to
explained, then hesitated. Not sure
where to start.
“It would help Lady Kagome if you would just simply start at
the beginning.” Miroku advised, no accusations in his
voice, just acceptance.
This most of all, gave Kagome some courage to continue. “Very well. I guess I should have
mentioned that I would sneak off to meet Sesshoumaru. It all started when I saved Rin’s life. She wanted to
meet me again later that night to thank me, and well
it became a pattern. At first, Sesshoumaru would stay in the back
ground and wouldn’t talk to me. But after a
while, after Rin would fall asleep we would converse.
I never knew that we could actually hold a
conversation together. Though some of our
conversations would lead to arguments. After one particular hard day, in which I was injured, Sesshoumaru made the decision to train me. So our time at nights changed from not only talking, but to
training as well. It was on one of these nights, that I
confessed to Sesshoumaru my desire to adopt Shippou. He said he knew of a
ritual, and he would perform it for a price. Before you say anything, the price
was something I was more than willing to pay.
Actually, I found it an honor. At the end he said I
didn’t have to do it, but I found that I really did want to.” Kagome told her
companions, causing Miroku and Inuyasha to stiffen.
Miroku got a perverted look upon his face. “My lady what
price did he ask of you that you were so willing to
pay?” He asked.
Sango smacked him on the head. “Stop being such a pervert.”
She told him angrily. “Kagome would never agree to a price such as that. Pervert.”
“What did you make her do you bastard!”
Inuyasha yelled angrily.
“Sit boy.” Kagome muttered angrily.
“Inuyasha your brashness astounds me. Can you not wait till
the end of her story before you jump to untrue conclusions.”
Sesshoumaru stated coldly, though inwardly he was somewhat amused.
“As I was saying.” Kagome began
irritated. “The price for the ritual, binding Shippou and I as Mother and Son,
was that another ritual be prepared. This ritual is to bind Sesshoumaru and I as siblings. He would become my
brother and I his sister. As I said, this is a ritual
I was more than willing to participate. The ritual binding Sesshoumaru and I
together, was performed first, then we performed the one binding me and Shippou. I love my kit and
would do anything for him. That night we became a family was over two months
ago. I’m sorry I didn’t tell any of you. I was, I just didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.” Kagome said
truthfully.
Everyone was quiet. Miroku and Sango had suspected that she
must have been meeting secretly with the demon lord. But now
it was out in the open. Sure they felt a bit left out
because Kagome hadn’t confided in them, but they also knew Kagome. She would
never do something that would endanger them. Besides, they knew and recognized
her and Shippou’s deep desire to become Mother and
Son, and Sesshoumaru provided that. Now they just had to wait and see what Inuyasha’s reaction would be.
Inuyasha was hurt. He didn’t feel
betrayed by Kagome’s actions. In fact he could
understand them. She was his best friend, but there were many
things she tried to shield him from, to keep him from getting hurt. It was one of the things he loved most about her. But he couldn’t understand how his human hating brother,
could so easily adopt a human into his family. Adopt a human, yet despise his
half-breed brother. He turned hurt filled eyes towards Kagome, silently asking
her why his brother hated him so much. Sure he was
always saying as how he would kill his bastard of a brother and rush off to
fight him, but in truth he was trying to prove to him how strong he was. That
he wasn’t just some worthless half breed.
Kagome, seeing the hurt in his eyes, went to hug him. Offer
him some comfort. Once she had him in her arms, she glared at Sesshoumaru. She
also whispered quietly in Inuyasha’s ears. So quietly that no one but Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru could hear
what she said.
“He doesn’t hate you Inuyasha. On the contrary, he does
care. He just doesn’t know how to show it. Why do you
think he hasn’t killed you yet. He has had ample
opportunities to do so.” She whispered to the hurting hanyou,
causing Inuyasha to look at Sesshoumaru in confusion.
Sesshoumaru in turn glared at Kagome. Kagome glared back at
him, a look in her eyes telling him to ‘fix this or else.’ Sesshoumaru sighed.
It appeared that his sister was bound and determined
to ruin his image. The cold façade that he shows the rest of
the world. The reputation as the cold and heartless
Lord of the Western Lands. He did feel emotions,
he felt them more keenly than others would believe. It was only towards Rin, Kagome, and Shippou that he would let that façade
fade.
“Inuyasha, I have never hated you. If I had hated you, I
would have allowed you
and your mother to stay at the castle with me, where my enemies could strike at
any moment. I had both of you hidden away for your own
protection. After father’s death, I was left with a great responsibilities. Many saw
father’s death as a weakness in our house. I would
have brought you back with your mother, once you were old enough to train. But you disappeared after your mother’s death. None of the
villagers knew where you went and sent apologies that they could not find you.”
Sesshoumaru told him somewhat softly. Not quite showing a lot of emotion, but their was a slight softening, if you knew what to look for.
Inuyasha looked at Sesshoumaru in horror. “It was because of
you we had to stay at that disgusting village. As if I
would stay there once mom was gone. You stay there. You stay there and let them
belittle you for your mixed blood. You stay there and let them punish you for
crimes you did not do. You stay there and allow them to beat you just because
you weren’t completely human. You stay there and watch
them disrespect ‘my’ mother. As if I would stay there.
They kicked me out as soon as mother was gone. They
left me to fend on my own. It’s a
miracle I even survived after so many demons came to kill me. You want
me to believe you had us sent there for ‘our’
protection. Some protection.” Inuyasha sneered, all
the pain of his past coming back to life in his heart. Remembering all of his
mothers tears, all of those taunts because of his mixed blood.
Sesshoumaru saw red. How dare those filthy humans treat his
brother in such a manner. And
why wasn’t he told. He had an officer make monthly visits to the village, and
he would always report that his half-brother was being
treated accordingly. That he was being treated
with the respect that he deserved. That officer has a lot of explaining to do
to this Sesshoumaru. No one disrespects anyone under his care.
Sesshoumaru was quiet for some time, trying to calm his
rage. After he was able to speak calmly, he addressed Inuyasha. “Brother, those
humans were only under my protection because you resided there. The only reason
they were safe from other demons was because they were
suppose to house and protect you. They were also to offer you the respect you
deserved as Prince of the Western Lands. You were only answerable to me, yet I gave no
punishments to be delivered. I even had one of my officers
check up on you once a month. This officer was to report any ill treatment to me. He has much to answer for. But
I never, not once meant for you to be alone. I even
sent for you, once word reached me of your mother’s death. But
you had supposedly run away. I did not hear of you again, till after you were
pinned to the god tree.”
Inuyasha looked at Sesshoumaru, trying to understand what he
was saying. It did make sense, and he knew that his brother considered it
beneath himself to lie. Though Inuyasha knew it to be
true, and it did help ease some of the pain from his past. He was never one to
show how he truly felt. He felt safer showing his anger, than any other
emotion. So it was that the only response that
Sesshoumaru was able to get out of Inuyasha, was that of impatience.
“Keh.
What are we waiting for. We’re never going to find
that bastard Nuraku if we stay here all day.”
Inuyasha told the group as he stood up and started walking in t he lead once again. Before anyone could start walking
anywhere, Sesshoumaru spoke up.
“Miko, is there not something you
should tell your companions before we make haste.” Sesshoumaru stated coldly,
making Kagome blush in embarrassment.
Kagome laughed sheepishly. She knew she had to tell her
friends of what happened that night, but well, she had yet to get the courage.
“Lady Kagome, there is more?” Miroku asked in confusion.
Poor monk, once he thought he had one thing figured out, something just had to
come and throw him back to the beginning. Sango just looked at Kagome, giving
her an ‘you better tell me everything later’ look.
Inuyasha just gazed at Kagome, wondering what else she was keeping from him.
“Well yeah. Umn, you see the
ritual had some unexpected side effects.” Kagome started.
“What kind of side effects?” Sango asked patiently.
“Well you see, Shippou I believe it
is time to drop our illusions.” Kagome told her kit. Sure enough
they dropped their illusions and showed their companions the differences in
their looks. Kagome’s was the most noticeable of the pair.
Kagome and Shippou both fidgeted as their companions just
looked on in shock. Miroku was even more shocked than Sango, for he had
realized that Kagome was now a full demon. Half Kitsune, half
Dog Demon. She now had black Kitsune ears above her head. Her once raven
black hair was now as silky and as silver as Sesshoumaru’s.
Also, she now had claw and was now shorter barely
reaching 5.0” tall. Her once blue eyes were now a golden
amber with a tinge of green circling the amber. Her breasts were also a bit
fuller and she now had a bushy silver tail. She had also gained two stripes on
each side of her face as well as above each hand. This
signifying that she was the sister to the Lord of the Western Lands. But she still had her Miko abilities intact. Shippou’s changes were not as noticeable. He was still the
same height, though his green eyes were now circled by
amber. He also had silver highlights as well as two stripes on each cheek and
above each hand.
“Kagome how is it possible to be a full demon?” Miroku
asked. “And still retain your Miko abilities?”
“Honestly?” She asked him. Miroku nodded, that he wanted the
truth from her. “I have no earthly idea. I still don’t
fully understand how I was able to turn into a full demon. Sesshoumaru says it
is because my Miko abilities accepts demon energy. It doesn’t automatically seek to kill or purify any and all
demons. They embrace them first, but if they become a threat, then they
purify.” She explained.
“That would make sense, but it is still a mystery. Though you do seem to have shrunk.” He added making Kagome
narrow her eyes at him. How dare he try to make short jokes at her expense.
“Miroku, would you like a rosary, just like the one Inuyasha
wears. Kaede has been teaching me
a lot lately.
At the mention of his name, Inuyasha perked to attention.
“So Kagome, does this mean you are also my sister?” He asked.
Sesshoumaru seeing the hopeful look in Inuyasha’s
eyes, answered for Kagome. “As a matter of fact yes it does. Kagome now has the
blood of our father running through her veins. So she is partly your sister.”
Inuyasha had a pleased look upon his face. It was true that
he had, at one time, romantic feelings for her. But
they had slowly died, when they never acted upon it. That and Kagome seemed
more than happy to just be friends. “So I have a sister huh. A
younger sibling.” Inuyasha said with an evil smirk.
Kagome seeing the smirk, instantly
stiffened. “Inuyasha, whatever you are thinking, forget it. Just because you
are now my brother, doesn’t give you the right to do anything you want.”
“But Kagome, I just wanted to make sure that you didn’t go
out with any unworthy males. Especially that Hobo guy.”
Inuyasha said innocently.
Kagome stared at him in horror. “You leave Hojo alone. He is
a nice guy and we are only friends. You got that
‘Friends’.” Kagome stressed.
“Who is Hobo? He sounds like a weakling.” Sesshoumaru stated
confused. He was not about to give his permission for Kagome to court with a
weakling. She needed some one strong. Who would not let her walk all over him.
“No one. He is just a friend from
back home.” Kagome explained.
“Yeah, he is just a friend, who keeps bringing her courting
gifts.” Inuyasha added in.
Sesshoumaru stiffened. It was well known,
at least in their culture, that to give gifts was to make known their wish to
mate. Demons only gave gifts to those they wanted as their mate. “I believe it
is time I meet this Hobo.” Sesshoumaru stated.
“Ah, hah. You can’t.
You see he’s from my time, and since demons are not
alive in that era, that I know of. You can’t meet him.” Kagome said with a smug
smile.
“Don’t worry Sesshoumaru, I can
meet him for you.” Inuyasha said evilly.
“Sit boy!” Kagome said angrily.
“That will not be necessary, brother. I
believe I will long enough to see Kagome’s time. Demons age rather slow, did
you now know. My father was over a thousand years old
when he died. And he was still in his prime. I myself
am only three hundred years.” He told her, making Kagome groan.
Just great now I will probably have to deal with two Sesshoumaru’s.
The one that is more than likely alive in my time, and
the one here. And I thought only one Sesshoumaru as a
big brother was bad enough. Kagome thought to herself. She could just
imagine the havoc he would create in her time. Especially
when it came to her.
“Okay, enough of this. Are we just going to stay here and
talk all day? Or are we actually going to get anything done today?” Kagome
asked huffily, causing Inuyasha to once more walk in the lead, everyone following after him.
Sesshoumaru had stayed behind with Kagome. He could sense a sadness, that was not present the last time they saw each
other. “Kagome, what is wrong?” Sesshoumaru demanded.
Kagome looked at Sesshoumaru. She really wanted to confide in some one and she
knew that Sesshoumaru was really good at listening. “I
really need to talk to someone. Can we talk later tonight?” She asked, the
sadness tinting her normally happy eyes. Sesshoumaru have a slight nod, then said no more.
It wasn’t till much later that
night that Kagome was finally able to speak with Sesshoumaru. She had gone to
take a bath with Sango, where Kagome had a lot of explaining to do. Many of which, why hadn’t she confided in Sango. Kagome had
finally explained to Sango, that it was not only her secret
she was keeping, but that of Sesshoumaru as well. She did not feel
comfortable in confessing, till Sesshoumaru was ready.
Sesshoumaru walked Kagome into a clearing, far enough away
from the camp, so that Inuyasha would not be able to hear their discussion. It wasn’t that Kagome wanted to keep any more secrets, it was
just that she didn’t feel like broadcasting her emotions. She knew that
Inuyasha wouldn’t be able to keep quiet about what
Sesshoumaru and her were going to discuss and the group would end up gossiping
about it.
“This is far enough. Now speak Miko. What is bothering you?”
Sesshoumaru demanded.
Kagome really needed some reassurance. Especially from some
one she viewed as an older brother. “Sesshoumaru, do you remember when I told
you about an older brother that I had?” She asked.
Sesshoumaru took a few seconds to scan his memories. “Yes, he died. Around the time of your ‘accident’.” He stated.
“Yeah that one. I
just bumped into him this week. Of all the people to bump into, it had to be
him. He’s alive Sesshy. My big brother Yusuke is alive, and he never told me. He
just let me believe that he was still dead. I wouldn’t even know now, if I hadn’t bumped into him. Why? Why did he lie?” she asked, for some reason hoping that
Sesshoumaru would have a reason.
“Did you ask him if he had reason for his death?” He asked.
“Yeah, he wouldn’t tell me though. You know the weird part? I sensed demon blood within
him Sesshoumaru. How is that possible? Not only that, but his two friends were
also demons. I didn’t believe that there were demons
in my time. I still don’t know how that is possible. But there they were. And they lied
to me. All three of them lied.” Kagome said angrily, tears falling down her
face.
Sesshoumaru studied his sister. He could see that she was
upset, but she was more hurt than angry. “What did you do when they lied?” He
asked intrigued.
“I told them in no uncertain terms that they were dead to
me. Not to even acknowledge me when and if we met in public, because to me they
didn’t exits. How could they, their demons, and
according to them demons are myths, legends.” Kagome said shakily. “So now I
find out my brother is alive, and not only alive, but part demon as well. He
lied to me Sessh. I needed him. I really did. All
those years, I needed him and he wasn’t there. He
promised to always look after me. That he’d always protect me. But he
didn’t. He wasn’t there when I needed him, truly
needed him. I miss him so much, but he doesn’t want
me. God Sessh, he doesn’t want me.” She finished,
finally breaking down and crying.
Sesshoumaru heard the deep sadness in her voice. He could
feel it in her aura, growing more and more as she continued. When she finally
broke down, he carefully gathered her in his arms. “Shhhhhh.
Don’t cry sister. If you wish
I will survive till your time, even if it is just to torture and maim the cause
of your upset. Know this, whatever happens, I will
always protect you. Now and in your future. I will survive and live. You are my
sister, and I am proud of you. Nothing will keep me from fulfilling this oath.”
He crooned. Kagome hearing what Sesshoumaru was saying, slowly started calming
down. Once, she finally got a hold of her emotions, she looked up at the cold
demon lord.
Attempting a watery smile, Kagome smiled up at him. “Thank
you Sesshy. I feel better
now. It still hurts, but it has lessened. I love you, my brother.” Kagome told
him, making Sesshoumaru smile. A true smile full of affection
and warmth.
“Come Kagome, it is time we returned to camp. If I know my
idiotic brother, he is probably pacing angrily by now.” He said haughtily. Making Kagome laugh.
Sure enough, when they returned to camp, Inuyasha was
angrily pacing. “What took you so long. Don’t you know
that Nuraku could strike at any moment.
What if something happened to you?” Inuyasha demanded of them both.
“Are you implying, dear brother, that I am weak.”
Sesshoumaru demanded with a
quirk of his eyebrow.
“No, but even the strongest of demons call
fall.” Inuyasha said, surprising Sesshoumaru with an acceptable answer.
“I suggest you rest, tomorrow will be a trying day.”
Sesshoumaru suggested.
“Keh.”
Inuyasha said before jumping into a tree for the night, causing Kagome to
giggle at their antics.
Sesshoumaru simply quirked an eyebrow at
her in silent question. “Don’t worry Sesshy, I
believe you are invincible.” Kagome grinned up at the demon lord, getting a “Keh.” From Inuyasha. Soon they all
got comfortable for the night, everyone but Sesshoumaru slept. Sesshoumaru, not
needed any sleep, kept watch that night. Making sure nothing could get close
enough to hurt any under his protection.
***********
It was two weeks later that the final battle was fought. The
gang were desperately trying to hold their own against
Nuraku. Unfortunately, there had already been some
casualties. Rin was murdered
in front of Sesshoumaru. Nuraku had sliced off her
head and burned her body. Sesshoumaru had kept Rin at
his castle to keep her safe, unknown to him, Nuraku had a spy working for him there. They kidnapped Rin and Jaken. Jaken was beaten severely and lay
half dead several feet away. Sesshoumaru went into a rage and started attacking
Nuraku mercilessly, unfortunately for him, he just couldn’t reach him. He was fighting demon after demon. It felt as if once he got rid of one, another would appear.
Miroku seeing Sesshoumaru dilemma unwrapped his wind tunnel
to the dismay of his companions. He sucked up more than half of the demons
along with the poisonous semiyoushi (sorry don’t know how to spell it). He now lay dying. Kagome gave
him an antidote, but they were too many. Sango, seeing Miroku die, tried to get
to his side. She went into a rage and attacked anything and everything in her
way. She was so full of rage, she didn’t see the
killing blow. Kohaku, under Nuraku’s
spell, delivered the death strike. When Sango lay
bleeding and dying on the ground, Nuraku gave Kohaku all of his memories back.
Seeing his dying sister, Kohaku
ran to her and cradled her in his arms, sobbing the entire time how sorry he
was. “Sister, forgive me. Please I didn’t mean it.
Don’t die, not you too.” He pleaded.
Sango smiled. She finally got her brother back. “Please,
don’t blame yourself. It wasn’t your fault. I love you
Kohaku.” Sango said, then
died in his arms.
“NOOO. Sister no. Please wake up. Please.” Kohaku
pleaded with Sango. When he finally realized that she was truly dead, he got
his own weapon and sliced his throat. Effectively killing himself.
He couldn’t live with the knowledge that he killed his
own sister.
Kagome had been cradling Miroku’s head in her arms. Denying
that he was dead, when she saw Kohaku
kill himself. When she saw this, she instantly realized what had happened. She
stood up angrily and shot arrow after arrow at Nuraku,
trying to get a good shot in. Seeing another arrow join hers, Kagome turned as
saw Kikyo join the fight. Only thing, Kikyo was the closet to Nuraku,
so it was with great disbelieve when Kagome saw one of Nuraku’s
tentacles pierce through Kikyou’s heart, thus killing
her and freeing all the souls. Kagome’s soul came straight at her, adding to
her powers.
Kagome was about to shoot another arrow at Nuraku, when she heard Inuyasha’s scream of surprise. Nuraku
had pierced through Inuyasha’s heart and was now
using him as a shield. Inuyasha had lost the Tetsaigga
and was struggling to live. When his eyes starting turning red and his demon
blood rose to the surface, Nuraku decided he didn’t want to face another pure demon and ripped Inuyasha
head off.
Kagome was in a rage, she ran and
started attacking Nuraku with her claws. Nuraku had absorbed all of his incarnations, so that he
could become stronger. He was able to land several severe wounds upon Kagome.
One tentacle had pierced close to her heart, before more damage could be done with that tentacle, Kagome purified it.
Another, tentacle pierced her stomach, that too was purified. She also had
wounds on her legs, shoulders, thighs, arms, and even across her chest. Sesshoumaru
was also attacking Nuraku using his sword Tokijin. When a tentacle came close to a killing strike
against Kagome, Shippou came running in and deflected the blow, giving Kagome a
chance to make contact with Nuraku.
Suddenly, after Kagome was able to get close to Nuraku, something unexpected happened. The Jewel shards
started pulsing. Nuraku had killed off Kouga before the battle and collected his shards. So
between the two of them, they had all of the shards. Kagome feeling the pulse
of the jewels, called to them. They rose from were they were and merged high up
in the sky above the battle. They were instantly purified.
Nuraku, seeing that Kagome was
distracted, attempted to kill her with one of his tentacles, what he had not
expected was a wave of purifying energy so strong, it purified him on contact.
Before he could scream in agony, he was gone. Blown away like dust in the wind.
The evil half demon Nuraku, was finally defeated. And the
cost was tremendous.
The jewel came slowly down and paused in front of Kagome,
awaiting it’s guardian’s wish. Sesshoumaru, seeing Nuraku dead, instantly released his Tessaiga
and brought Jaken back to life. He looked at Rin’s burned body, and decapitated head. The little girl he
had seen as his daughter, was now dead. He then looked
at his dead brother. He knew that he couldn’t bring
them back. Sesshoumaru looked at Sango and Miroku and saw that their spirits
had already crossed over. Even the dead brother Kohaku’s
spirit had crossed over. Kirara, was lying wounded not
far from Sango. He went and healed her. He looked over at all the deaths, and
felt a weight upon his heart. He couldn’t bring them
back. There was no way. He looked at Kagome’s hopeful eyes, and let her read
the truth in them. He was about to walk over to her to heal her when she
started speaking.
Kagome, seeing the truth in Sesshoumaru’s
eyes, started thinking about how unfair it all was. So much
death, for one victory. Her friends should all be alive to savor this
victory, but it wasn’t so. Inuyasha, Rin, Miroku, Sango dead. Only She, Sesshoumaru, Shippou,
Kirara, and Jaken survived. It wasn’t
fair. They should all have lived. Kagome looked at the completed Shikon No Tama and brought her hands up to cup it. She then
looked straight into it and mad her wish.
“I wish for those I hold dear to be reborn, not
reincarnated. I want them to have a chance at the life
they should have lived. Let them be reborn in my time.
Let them be able to live their lives they were meant
to. Let only their memories of this time come forward if their
should ever be need. Otherwise, let them be themselves. But not Kohaku. Please let him be reincarnated. Let the sins and pain of his soul heal and
move on. Allow him to be the brother to Sango he always wished to be. Let them
be together. Inuyasha, Rin, Miroku, and Sango, let
them be reborn into who they already are. Let them enjoy the peace that should
have been theirs. Let now this victory be wasted. I
wish nothing for myself, for that would be selfish and
negate all the good. If I am to live, so be it. If I am to die, then I will welcome death. But please grant
this wish, this wish I make out of the love I feel for them all.” Kagome asked.
The Shikon No Tama glowed brightly
and consumed Sango, Kohaku, Miroku, Rin, and Inuyasha. It gathered them all within and
fulfilled it’s wish. It then moved slowly towards
Kagome and merged within her. Waiting to see if Kagome would
live or die. Slowly Kagome started fading from this world. Before she faded she looked at her brother and son. With pleading eyes
she mad her tearful farewells.
“Please survive to my time. Rin
will be there, and she will have need of you once again. She will be orphaned, also Inuyasha will be reborn as a hanyou. You will need to find him and get to know your
brother as you were meant to. Please take care of my son and remember I love you. Shippou, always remember I love you. Nothing would please me
more if you could survive to my time. But if you
cannot, just remember I love you with all my heart. I
love you both. Sesshoumaru, Shippou, if either or both of you survive to my time, please promise me one thing. Promise me, that if I should die, you will burn my body along with
the Shikon No Tama. Burn us so that there may be true
peace. But also look for my reincarnation. For should I have one, she will need help in the jewel’s protection.
Train her and protect her. Show her that pain and sadness does not have to rule
her life. There is also happiness and contentment. For I had never known true
happiness till I met all of you.” Kagome said, fading out till
only her words could be heard. “Always remember, I love you.” These were the final words Sesshoumaru and Shippou would hear from
Kagome. They would not see her for at least five-hundred years. They
also made a promise to themselves, that they would
survive to her time, and make sure that she lives. They wanted their loved one
back.

Meanwhile, five hundred years in the
future. Prince Koenma was having a meeting with all four of his spirit
detectives. There was some artifact that was stolen
and the Kings of the Makai wanted it back. It was a
powerful weapon, but that was not why they wanted it back. There were personal
reasons as to why they wanted this weapon and had already threatened Koenma.
They figured a half-breed stole it because only a hanyou
could wield it.
“Now as I was saying, there is a powerful artifact that was
stolen from the castle of one of the Kings of the Makai.
This artifact is in fact a very powerful weapon. Our suspect is a half demon.”
Koenma finished saying and produced a picture of the weapon.
When Yusuke got a look at the weapon, he couldn’t
understand why it was so important. “Hey toddler, why do they
want a rusted old sword.” He asked confused.
“It’s not a rusted old sword. It is a very powerful weapon.”
Koenma shouted at him.
“Hn.” Was all Hiei said, amused at
the detectives ignorance of such things.
Kurama was intrigued. How was it that someone was even able
to steal from the castle of one of the most powerful demons of the Makai.
“How was it stolen Koenma. Wouldn’t it have been kept in a safe place?”
Koenma humphed.
“Normally it would. But it seemed the heir to the Lord in question, has a bad
habit of leaving it laying around.”
“You still have not said why our help is needed.” Hiei said
stoically. He was bored. Kurama and Youko had finally merged, and he was really bored. No longer could he listen in to their conversations.
At times Kurama acted much like that kinky fox, at others the same Kurama he
befriended. He was getting a headache with the fox’s mood swings. Just because
they merged, didn’t mean they were finally in balance.
“Yeah, what’s up with the rusty sword?” Kuwabara
asked.
Koenma counted to ten. He always seemed to lose his temper
when around all of them. “This sword is capable of killing thousands of demons
in one stroke. That is how powerful it is.”
Now Kurama looked very intrigued. But
before he could say anything, Yusuke beat him to it. “And the idiot left it
lying around?!” Yusuke asked in astonishment. That
sounded like one powerful sword.
“He is the heir to one of the lords. Show proper respect.”
Koenma warned. Yusuke just ignored him, making Koenma worried. Yusuke had been
acting our of character for the last two weeks. He was
starting to worry what was wrong with Yusuke.
“Is there any more information we require about this sword.”
Kurama demanded calmly. Bringing Koenma out of his musings.
“Yes as a matter of fact there is. This sword was actually made from the fang of the Lords father. He was
a very powerful…..” Koenma started only to be cut off
by a loud THUMP.
Out of nowhere a body just fell out
of thin air. There in a fallen and bloody heap, lay an unconscious woman. This
woman had black hair and was dressed in some type of short
skirted school uniform. There was also a puddle of blood forming beneath
her. This woman fell down between the detective and Koenma’s
desk. She was huddled up to herself, and her hair covered her face. Giving no clue as to who she was. Her entrance left the
entire room speechless.
