Chapter: A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes
A/N: This chapter is going to be so fluffy, it's pathetic. Thought it would be a nice change of pace if something good happens! Hee Hee! I was listening to Daniel Bedingfield version of "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" I love this song! My younger sister got the Disneymania 2 cd, and this is like one of two songs off the whole album that I like! I'm using the lyrics in this chapter, sooo. . .

A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes
~Kagome's POV~
She ran out of the room, and back downstairs to the kitchen, pulling her clothes back on as she went. She had to bite her lip to keep from crying out in pain whenever her clothing rubbed against her back, and by the time she reached the kitchen, her lip was bleeding profusely.
"Kaede!" she called out as soon as she made it through the door to the kitchen.
"Kagome, what is wrong with ye, child? How badly did he beat you this time?" she asked sympathetically.
"I-I got t-ten lashes this time instead of the usual f-five, but, Kaede that is not the problem!" she exclaimed.
"Spit it out girl, I can't help you if I don't know what happened," she said, her tone gentle, even if her words were not.
"H-H. . . .He tried to t-take me as a husband does his wife! I was so scared, I didn't know what to do!" she said as tears started down her cheeks, "Oh, Kaede, he is going to kill me when he wakes up, what will I do?"
"When he wakes up? What did you do to him?" she asked, astonished.
Kagome related the details of the incident to the older woman, and suddenly felt a small measure of relief.
She could tell by the gleam in her eye that she was already plotting how to save her. Kagome was like the daughter she never had.
"Ye be right, he will certainly kill you for this. . . .Don't worry child, I will find a way to save you from this" she said soothingly.
"Go hide yourself in the forest, as soon as the sun sets meet me behind the old barn, I will have a plan for you by then."
~Sunset, Kagome's POV~
She stealthily made her way back towards the mansion, and made it to the barn without being caught. Kaede was already there waiting for her, a small bundle in her hand.
"Ok Kaede, have you thought of a plan?" she asked quietly, secretly terrified that she would say no.
"Aye child, I have," she said, "Take this bundle, and go to the gypsies. They owe me a favor for mendin their leader, and delivering the leader's firstborn. Tell them who you are, and tell them I sent you. It was a few years ago, but they will remember me. I always knew this day would come, so I put a boon to them to take ye in, and treat ye as one of their own if it ever came down to that."
"B-but, I thought they were thieves, not to be tru-" Kagome started saying before Kaede cut her off.
"They might not be much, but they are more loyal and honest and kind than this lot here. Head due east, ye'll run right into their camp, if they don't find ye first. Once you arrive, ask for Kouga and Ayame. He is the leader and she is his wife, they will know the truth of what ye say. I packed all of ye clothes in this small bundle, and also included some of the fine silver, they will trade with ye for money, and they are honest when it comes to fair trades."
"Ok," she whispered.
"Now, before ye go, give us a hug , and remember, do not converse with strangers on the way. In this day and time, there are bandits everywhere." She said as she pulled the girl close for a reassuring hug.
"Now, off ye go, be careful, and make haste with ye!" she said, shooing the girl off.
~Sesshoumaru's POV~
The more he thought about the situation he found himself in, the more frustrated he became.
He knew he would never be able to marry any of the female courtiers, all they cared about was his wealth and status.
He had met a few of the princesses from neighboring countries, and was always amazed at how emptyheaded and listless they were.
'Pathetic, simpering fools, the lot of them.' he thought to himself as he watched the sun go down. He'd been in his room all day contemplating the choices before him, and found he was definitely not satisfied with the results.
'So, courtiers, out. Princesses, out. That only leaves peasants, and I would never be able to marry such as that. To do so would mean I have abdicated the throne to my younger brother, Inuyasha. That is something I will never do." He thought vehemently.
He looked outside and realized that the sun had finally set, so he once again got ready to leave for a ride by himself. He quickly donned his peasant outfit, and grabbed his dark cloak from the trunk at the foot of his bed.
He strode out of the castle and went to prepare his horse for the journey. Once he was satisfied, he mounted the horse, and set off at a steady canter towards the east.
He was always delighted with the pleasant feeling he felt whenever he went out for a ride by himself.
It was simply exhilirating.
~Kagome's POV~
She had been walking for quite some time before she decided to take a rest break in a clearing. She gathered some wood, and started a small campfire.
Once she had gotten herself settled, she pulled out some of the food that Kaede had sent with her in the bundle. She had never felt so alone before in her life.
Tears started to course down her face as she thought about the house she had been forced to leave. She had been born in that house, she had lived there all her life. It held all of her best memories, her memories of her mother.
And she'd been forced to leave it without a second glance. She started singing one of the songs her mother used to sing to her when she was sad.
No matter how badly she felt, this song always managed to buck her spirits up.
< A dream is a wish your heart makes
<When you're fast asleep
<In dreams you will lose your heartache
<Whatever you wish for you keep
<Have faith in your dreams and someday
<Your rainbow will come smiling through
<No matter how your heart is grieving
<If you keep on believing
<The dream that you wished
<Will Come True
~Sesshoumaru's POV~
He had slowed his horse to a slow trot, and was deep in thought when he heard the most lovely voice he could remember singing very sadly. He could only hear bits and pieces of the song she was singing, but what he did hear, he knew he liked.
<A dream is a wish your heart makes
He turned his horse in the direction of the music.
<Have faith in your dreams and someday
He urged his horse on a little faster, but was so engrossed in the song that he didn't notice the low hanging branch hanging directly in his path.
<No matter how your heart is grieving
He was knocked off his horse. It was badly startled and took of in a swift run back towards the castle.
'Oh well,' he thought, "Guess I'll just have to walk.' And he stood and continued on his journey towards the voice that seemed to draw him in like a bee to nectar.
<If you keep on believing
He was almost to the clearing, and he was finally able catch all the words of the song.
<The dream that you wished
<Will Come True
~Kagome's POV~
The further she got into the song, the better she began to feel.
The better she began to feel, the song changed beat and tempo to match her mood.
She started to sing a lot faster than the song called for, but she didn't care.
She was suddenly feeling so much better, that she stood and started to glide around the clearing, dancing around the fire, matching the tempo of her singing.

<The dream that you wished

~Sesshoumaru's POV~
He finally made it to the edge of the clearing, and what he saw there took his breath away.
One of the most beautiful women he had ever seen was dancing around in time with the song she was singing.
Long black hair that reached all the way to just below her bottom, a slender, trim figure, but with curves in all the right places.
He could see, even from as far away as he was , that she had the most startling blueberry colored eyes he had ever seen.
'Have I stumbled onto an angel? For surely no mortal woman could be as beautiful as the woman I see before me.' he thought to himself, finding himself slipping into a daze as he watched her .
He was mesmerized.
~Kagome's POV~
She slowly came to a stop, and sang the last bit of the song much slower, it was almost a whisper she was singing so slowly.

<When you're fast asleep
<In dreams you will lose your heartache
<Whatever you wish for you keep
<Have faith in your dreams and someday

She sighed as she finished, "If only it were true. . ."she said sadly.
Another lonely teardrop made it's way down her cheek as she found herself wishing her mother back to life.
~Sesshoumaru's POV~
As she, once again, began to sing much more slowly and sadly, he couldn't help but wonder, what on heaven or earth could have happened to this angel that would cause her to cry as she was.
It tore at his heart as he watched her sob silently to herself. He didn't want to intrude on her moment of privacy, but he couldn't stop himself.
For some reason, he felt the irrational urge to comfort her in any way possible. With those thoughts in mind, he made his way out into the clearing, still in a daze.
He approached her silently, and she didn't notice him until he stopped right in front of her.
He watched as she looked up at him, and a look of surprise quickly stole over her features.
~Kagome's POV~
She looked up at the man in front of her, and grew embarrassed.
Had he heard her singing? 'Oh God, I hope not."
She thought, flushing an even deeper shade of scarlet. Trying to take her mind off of her supreme embarrassment, she decided to really look at him, and slowly took in his appearance.
He was dressed in the livery of the king, and she surmised that he must be a stable hand at the castle. He had long platinum hair, which surprised her.
Usually, even stable hands kept their hair cut in whatever the current style at court was, and she knew that long hair on a man was not in season this year.
At least that was what she had gathered whenever she'd visited the village market, to buy and sell goods for the manor.
Amber eyes were set above an aristocratic nose, followed by full lips. He had broad shoulders that tapered to a narrow waist and hips, and muscular legs. Even though his jherkins were loose on his figure, she could tell that they hid muscles underneath.
She could tell he was strong, but he was more lithe than bulky.
She realized that he was still staring at her with. . .concern?
Why would he be concerned about her?
A mere peasant?
She finally found her voice and said, "I'm sorry, but I don't talk to strangers." She watched him as a smile came over his face.
~Sesshoumaru's POV~
He watched as she looked him up and down, and was pleased that she evidently liked what she saw.
'Wait, what am I thinking?' Now that he had gotten closer to her, he could tell that she was a peasant, and quite a dirty peasant at that, so why should he care what was wrong with her.
But try as he might to deny it, there was something about her that spoke to his very soul.
He found that he still couldn't hold back the smile and chuckle that escaped his mouth when she asked her question.
"Well, what is your name?" he asked her.
"Kagome" she replied quickly and a little agitated.
She had fire, that was always good in a woman as far as he was concerned.
He was so tired of the court beauties who would agree with anything you said just so you would like them.
"Well, Kagome, my name is Ses. . . . .Maru," he said.
He had decided at the last moment to not tell her his name, he didn’t want her to recognize as the crown prince of the realm.
He didn't know why but he wanted her to get to know him, before she passed judgement on his head because of his title.
"See? Now we are no longer strangers," he said with a smile.
"Why are you so sad?" he asked her.
But before she could reply, they heard the canter of hooves, and realized that someone was coming their way.
A/N: Who could it be? Find out next time! I know that the way I wrote this chapter is reminiscent of the way I did "I Need A Hero", but I think I made it different enough that it has it's own originality to it. I want to thank everyone who has read and reviewed! You guys are the best!!
