SMACK!
“That’s for touching my butt, you pervert!” Miroku was left standing in the dust as the beauty he’s been charming stormed off, a slightly pink hand print across one cheek Letting loose a soft sigh, the dark haired monk walked across the dirt road, staff in hand, to settle himself under the shade of a green leaved tree.
What was wrong with him? He hadn’t even taken much enjoyment in the action that had cost him a smack to the face. Women were as lovely as ever to him, but. . . .that was it. He didn’t feel the desire to charm woman after woman, nor to physically admire their rear ends with an appreciative grope.
The cursed man had a pretty good idea why this odd change in feelings had occurred. And it came in the form of a brown eyed demon slayer. The tough, pretty woman could throw a mean boomerang and determinedly kick ass one day; and the next be a breathing-taking beauty in that kimono of hers, making Kikiyo look only mildly good-looking in comparison. At least in his eyes. And all the while, Sango was smart and caring.
But the dark haired woman didn’t take him seriously. And Miroku didn’t blame her. He’d been up to his womanizing ways for a long time now, always ready to turn his charm on some unsuspecting female. If he tried to woo her, or expressed his feelings, the monk wasn’t sure Sango would believe him. What if she didn’t even care for him, beyond that of a friend?
His moody thinking halted when he saw Kagome and Shippo entering the village on the two-wheeled contraption, Inuyasha probably not far behind. Sango had been helping Kaede with dinner, knowing that Kagome had promised the trio would be back before sundown. It was probably best to return to the old miko’s home, so that he could meet up with the others. Besides, he’d enjoy eating anything Sango made.

Breakfast time, and strangely enough; still no Kagome. Lily hadn’t met her at all yesterday, and hadn’t seen nor heard the other girl since her arrival in the Higurashi home. Where was she? Was her missing presence normal? “Mrs. Higurashi? Is Kagome usually busy? Does she work in the summer or something?”
The short haired woman paused, her hands just about to lift a tea cup to her lips. Grandpa and Sota also both halted their movements too, as if also awaiting her answer. She seemed to think a quick moment, before she smiled widely at Lily, her eyes scrunching up slightly, “Yes, that’s it. Kagome keeps pretty busy most of the time. I’m sure you’ll meet her at one point though, dear.”
This uninformative answer seemed to be enough for the two males at the table, for they both went back to eating, but Lily was left wanting. After breakfast, she remained sitting, watching Mrs. Higurashi as she cleared the table and did the dishes, a peaceful quiet settling over the room. But over the faint sound of running water, the teal eyed girl could hear soft voices conversing in the hallway.
Her curiosity stirred, Lily again politely thanked Mrs. Higurashi for the good meal, and then silently crept towards the speakers, who she figured must be Grandpa and Sota. Peeking around the wall, sure enough, there they were.
“. . . .the well! It was clever of your mother to think up a reply so easily. I‘m glad she didn‘t ask me. I have no idea what I would‘ve said. I could have told her that Kagome was sick with, uhm, boils! No something worse.” The grey haired man’s arms were moving about as he spoke, making him look rather silly.
“Calm down Grandpa. You don’t need to think up more illnesses for sis to come down with, she’ll get mad at you. Kagome will be back later. Mom‘s right, she is sort of working. And it does keep her busy a lot.” Such reassuring words coming from someone Sota’s age was rather cute and brought a smile to Lily‘s face, but they seemed to do the trick none-the-less.
“Right. I should go check the wellhouse, maybe I could put up some of my seals. Yes, that’s a good idea. Nothing gets through my written oracles!” Grandpa thrust an arm up into the air with gusto, before quickly dropping it again with an over-exaggerated groan of pain.
“But Inuyasha got through them.” ‘Inu-yasha?’ Who could that be? Lily wasn’t sure, but at Sota’s mention of him, Grandpa got a little red in the face.
“Hush! Don’t remind me! He broke my wonderful seals.” Lily decided she’d heard enough, and silently retreated. Only to sneak out of the house, and head in the direction of the wellhouse. The wind ruffled her red and black plaid skirt against her legs as she ran, her slim form stopping once she reached the wooden doors, her curiosity urging her to step inside. So, she did.
It was dim within the wellhouse, and as her teal eyes adjusted to the room, Lillian debated whether her curiosity was reason enough for snooping about. A flicker of green in her peripheral vision caused her eyes to lower; she was still wearing the waist-apron Mrs. Higurashi had given her this morning when she’d offered a helping hand at breakfast.
Swiftly untying the frilly cloth, Lily laid it over the nearby railing, not wanting to dirty it. Then, she allowed her booted feet to take her down the stairs, her eyes fixing on the square shaped hole in the ground; it wasn’t called a wellhouse for nothing. And some well it was. Pitch black when peered into, it’s depth probably reaching a good ways into the earth.
Other people might have been spooked being in an old, poorly lit building and standing before what appeared to be a bottom-less pit; Lily was simply greatly curious about what Sota and Grandpa had been talking about. Why would the old man want to seal up the wellhouse? Was it to keep someone or something in, or to keep people out? What if there was something interesting down there, like a tunnel that led to some other part of town. Perhaps Kagome was up to something.
Lily took a step closer, narrowing her eyes in hopes of seeing something, but the next thing she knew her foot had caught on something, and though she thrust out her hands in a rushed attempt to catch herself, she soon was tumbling none-too-gracefully down the well.

Kirara roamed through the woods, many different scents filling her nose. The soil beneath her paws, a nearby bird, old trails from passing demons, human urine, the smell of smoke faint in the air. The red eyed youkai had been out running, since she knew her mistress was safe with the old miko. But she had recently picked up on the scents of the fox demon, the female from the well, and the half demon, all heading towards the village.
They were probably there now with her mistress, preparing to eat, and so the large cat was headed there herself; Kirara never said no to food. Even though she had already hunted once earlier, the fire neko could eat more. And it would take no more than a simple transformation into her smaller form for the arrow maiden to feed her. At times, there were perks to being little and adorable.
The wind ruffled Kirara’s tan fur as her strong four legs bounded her closer to her destination, and a particular scent it carried made her halt momentarily, before veering slightly off course. There was something faintly familiar about it, the most prominent thing being that it was freshly doused in the smell of old bones from the well.
Her speed quickly brought her into the clearing where Kirara’s sharp eyes zeroed in on the man-made hole in the earth. The cat demon waited, ears twitching as her acute hearing picked up movement. It wasn’t a demon, for it didn’t smell like one. It smelled. . . .human. But what human would be at the bottom of such a well?
“Ouch! Damn vines. I’ve just got to get a good grip- There!” It didn’t sound threatening. Besides, Kirara was a full blooded fire-neko youkai; she could probably handle whatever came out of the hole. If she attacked too soon, she could harm a human; and if it was a foe, she would just have to be quick.

Silvery moonlight leaked in through the only window in the small room, casting faint light over the sole occupant. She was clothed in all black, a stark contrast to her fair aquamarine hair, which seemed to shift between light blue and pale green in the moon’s glow. However, the calm colors that surrounded her did nothing to reflect or diminish the red anger in Cassia’s soul.
Her lover was gone, taken away from her. And she was left alone, to remember. She had done her grieving, and then put aside such emotions. But sometimes late at night, in the dark, Cassia allowed herself to feel the pain that she shut away. Pain that only fueled her desire for revenge.
Self-serving, greedy and inconsiderate; her kind were known for looking out for themselves and no one else. And Cassia was going to do just that. She would take what she desired, with no care for any who stood in her way. And he who had struck her lover down would pay; she’d sworn it and she would carry through.

“Lillian! Where are you, dear girl?” Grandpa was wandering about the house, his arms full of odd items, searching for their house guest. “I thought I’d share some wonderful history with you about the shrine! Lillian!”
No reply. “Where is she?” This time his yell was no louder than an old man’s muttering. She had to be somewhere! Stepping outside, Grandpa shuffled his armful of objects and set out to take a look around the grounds. Maybe Lily was a curious youth who was busting with questions to ask! And he, Grandpa, could answer them all!
Chuckling to himself in merriment at the idea, the old man almost walked right past the wellhouse. But when he did cast a glance at it, he about dropped all that he held; the door was partially open! Was Kagome back? Did Inuyasha follow her? Why would they leave the door open?!
Trying to not trip over his own feet, Grandpa made a dash to the wellhouse’s entrance. Like always, it was dim inside from lack of lighting, and he couldn’t make out any shapes other than the simple layout of the building and the well in the ground. Stepping inside and stopping at the very top of the steps to get a better look, Grandpa almost had a heart attack when he felt something (possibly tentacle like) brush lightly against him.
Whipping around (and dropping a few items in the process), he yelled in what he thought was a strong voice, “Be gone, Demon! I am very powerful and shall seal you back in the well from whence you. . . .came.” No demon. Grandpa frowned sadly when he realized that his grand words were wasted on a mere apron string.
‘Apron?’
Apron!! It was the green apron that Lillian had been wearing this morning! Dropping everything Grandpa began to pace frantically, sometimes tugging at his hair while rambling, working himself into a tizzy.
Was Lily was down the well? She couldn’t have gone through like Kagome did, and the well did reach a good depth into the earth; what if she’d broken something?! Was she bleeding? ! ! ! What if she’d been knocked unconscious! She could be dying! What would her parents say?!
And with that last thought the old man was off, rushing back to the house, still fretting and trying to come up with a solution to a situation he didn’t know the full details of.
