Chapter 3
“I believe I will take you up on the offer of training with you. I have not had a decent sparring partner in at least a thousand years,” Sesshomaru said then nodded toward the Shichinintai, “what are you going to do with them?”
“I’ll leave them for now, they will eventually learn of Naraku’s betrayal, and I have a feeling that they will be joining us for the final battle when they do.”
She dropped the barrier freeing the mercenaries. Then she looked off to the north.
“You may have to make your decision sooner than expected regarding Inuyasha. He is coming and fast,” she said, she could feel his aura and he was definitely pissed.
Sesshomaru nodded and turned to the north as well. He could feel his brother’s aura it was definitely more powerful than normal. That was when he realized that he could not sense much of the miko’s aura. He really didn’t want to have to kill his brother and he was trying to think of another solution quickly. He didn’t have much time, Inuyasha was almost here. He could feel the anger coming off Inuyasha and he could smell his arousal.
Sesshomaru knew he was coming for Kagome, his beast saw her as his. His beast had claimed her but had neglected to mark her. Now he was coming back to finish what he started and reclaim what he saw as his property. Sesshomaru knew he had to protect Kagome. She cared too much for Inuyasha as a friend, and it would hurt her to have to kill him, besides her power seemed very low, she may not be able to even defend herself at the moment.
Sesshomaru froze at that thought. Kagome was weakened and therefore vulnerable. Had Inuyasha been close the whole time waiting for her to weaken so he could get his chance? Now that Sesshomaru thought about it he had felt a little nagging feeling at the edge of his senses while he was fighting Kagome. His eyes widened in shock. This was bad, Inuyasha was lost to his demon blood, but he could still think and plot. That made him even more dangerous now than he had been.
Sesshomaru stepped in front of Kagome to block her from Inuyasha’s view while at the same time telling her of his suspicion. Kagome’s eyes widened, she realized the implications as well. Then Sesshomaru felt a warm tendril spread out from her and head in the hanyou turned youkai’s direction. Within seconds it disappeared and Kagome confirmed his suspicions.
“I searched his mind and you were right. He has the capability to think and plan, but he is lost in his bloodlust. He may be able to regain conscious thought later, but he will always be lost to his demon blood. Right now his mind is helping to plan so he can satisfy his bloodlust as well as his… other lust,” she said looking worriedly.
“Kagome, you are part of my pack now, whether you choose to travel with me or not. I will not let him harm you, and I will not let him defile you further and force you to be his mate. Had I known what was going on before none of this would have ever happened. I would have saved you and not just to uphold our families honor,” he said eyes never leaving the tree line, he knew Inuyasha was standing just out of sight.
He was most likely evaluating the situation and trying to find a way to get Kagome so he could disappear with her before her powers renewed themselves. He knew Inuyasha would stop at nothing to get Kagome and Sesshomaru continued to block her with his body. Sesshomaru felt an overwhelming urge to protect the tiny, fragile miko, and it was not just the normal feeling of protecting one’s pack. Somehow this ran deeper. He could not push the feeling away either.
Inuyasha finally made his move, he crashed through the trees and into the clearing. He felt Kagome tense behind him. Inuyasha looked right at him and sniffed the air. Then his head snapped back down and his crimson eyes glowed staring right at Sesshomaru. He growled and charged at Sesshomaru. Before Sesshomaru knew it Inuyasha was around him and had Kagome pinned to a tree.
His claws dug deeply into her arms. Sesshomaru could see her aura trying to flare and knew she was quickly running out of energy trying to suppress it. She was trying to keep her promise to Sesshomaru and she was probably also low on her reserve strength. Inuyasha pressed closer to her. Sesshomaru was trying to think of a way to get Inuyasha away from Kagome without hurting her.

The Shichinintai had all been watching in shock when Inuyasha came into the clearing. His eyes were blood red and he had marks on his cheeks. They could feel the power he contained and didn’t know what to do. When they saw him grab Kagome and pin her to the tree they couldn’t believe how fast he moved. Bankotsu noticed that Sesshomaru was making no move to save her and grabbed Banryu.
“Grab your weapons brothers. We are going to help her,” he said looking at the group.
“Why should we help her?” he heard Renkotsu ask.
“Because she spared us, we owe her a debt of honor,” he said glaring at his second in command, “Are you questioning my orders?”
“No Big Brother,” Renkotsu quickly replied grabbing his bottle.
They all grabbed their weapons and started to head toward Inuyasha to save the girl.
“No, do not go any closer,” they heard Sesshomaru call to them, “If you get to close right now he will hurt her. I will take care of him as soon as there is an opening.”
“Will that be before or after the bastard rapes her again?” Bankotsu asked feeling his anger rise.
The demon Lord narrowed his eyes at them, “I would watch my tongue if I were you, or you might lose it. She is mine to protect and I will do so.”
“Then why don’t you do something?” Bankotsu yelled at him.
Just then they all felt a rush of energy coming from where Kagome and Inuyasha were.

Inuyasha grinded his hips into her stomach.
“Mine,” he growled moving his face closer to her neck.
“No, not yours. Now unhand me,” she yelled quickly losing control.
Her breathing increased as his teeth drew closer to her neck. She was scared and the strain of trying to hold in her reserve power was becoming too much. Sesshomaru moved to attack seeing a small opening. He was taking a big chance but he could sense Kagome’s distress. Inuyasha heard him coming and quickly moved Kagome in front of him. Sesshomaru froze.
Inuyasha smirked and moved his fangs to hover over her neck. Sesshomaru needed to do something before it was too late. Then he looked at Kagome and she smiled at him and winked as she drew her sword.
“Here we go again,” she said with that same glint in her eye.
In a flash she drove her sword through her side at the same spot she had used earlier for Sesshomaru, driving it into Inuyasha’s stomach. Inuyasha howled in pain driving his claws into her sides. She pulled the sword out and kicked him. Sesshomaru was impressed with how flexible she was and from the sounds of it so were the mercenaries. Her leg came up and kicked Inuyasha in the face over her shoulder.
Inuyasha flew back from the force of the kick. Sesshomaru sprang forward and caught Kagome as she fell. He felt concern rush through him as he felt her energy level and found it to be dangerously low.
“I told you I would let you handle him,” she said weakly, “his life is yours.”
Sesshomaru gently picked her up and moved quickly to sit her propped up against a tree out of the way.
“You should have just purified him. You wasted far too much energy suppressing your powers,” he stated calmly even though inside he was worried for the little miko.
Very few could let their energy drop so far and still live.
“True, but I made a promise,” she whispered leaning against the tree her eyes going in and out of focus.
Sesshomaru felt Inuyasha drawing near and could hear the mercenaries trying to fight him back. How was it this miko could make anybody change. It was like she drew people to her.
“Stay here,” he said standing to face his brother just in time to see the fire breather fly to the side with claw marks in his side.
His beast screamed at him to kill Inuyasha for hurting Kagome.
“Kagome is there any way to save his soul?”
“His soul is already safe. The Inuyasha before you is not your brother, he killed Inuyasha driving out Inuyasha’s soul when he took over. However the fact that he can think, leads me to believe that over time the beast can be tamed and Inuyasha’s soul can return just to a demon body instead of hanyou.”
Sesshomaru nodded and approached the beast.

As soon as they saw Kagome kick Inuyasha send him flying away they had attacked hoping their combined strength would be enough to stop him. Bankotsu saw Sesshomaru catch Kagome and move her to safety, feeling a bit of jealousy go through him. That bastard had done nothing to help the girl while that beast was holding her and now he was acting protective.
Inuyasha was starting to move toward them and Bankotsu yelled orders to his men to block and try to push back the beast from the girl. They all charged and used every trick they had managing to drive him back a little at a time. When they thought they were finally on top however the beast’s powers flared and with a speed they could not match he attacked back. He appeared next to Renkotsu and swung before Bankotsu could even shout a warning.
Then Bankotsu turned seeing Sesshomaru make his way to Inuyasha. He signaled his men to stop and pull back. He moved out of the Demon Lord’s way and they started to move to where he left Kagome. Bankotsu could see that last attack had taken it’s toll, he could barely feel her energy. As he passed Sesshomaru he heard a warning growl and turned to see the Demon Lord facing him.
He leveled his eyes with Sesshomaru and said, “we will guard her while you deal with Inuyasha,” he tried to placate the Daiyoukai, “all of this is my fault and she spared us. I owe her.”
Sesshomaru seemed to study him for a moment as if trying to see if he was lying. Finally he nodded at Bankotsu and started to move toward Inuyasha again. Bankotsu joined his group and they hurried to Kagome taking up positions to guard her. Bankotsu kneeled next to her trying to assess her wounds. He heard another growl and turned to see a fully transformed neko with a tiny kitsune on her back. He recognized them from the island they were a part of Inuyasha’s group. The kit jumped down glaring at all of them.
“What are you doing to my mama?” he asked with rage in his voice.
“We mean you mother no harm. We are guarding her while Sesshomaru deals with Inuyasha,” Bankotsu replied calmly pressing his hand to the newly opened wound on her side to try and stop the bleeding.
The kit studied him for a moment before grabbing a yellow bag from the back of the neko and walked up to Kagome. They all watched as he pulled a white box, a bottle of water, and a shirt from the bag. He quickly slashed the shirt into many strips and poured some water over a piece. He carefully started to clean the wounds. Bankotsu grabbed a piece of the cloth and started to clean the wounds on her other side.
“What happened to her? I can barely feel her life energy?” the kit asked his voice shaking.
“Your mother is a very brave woman. She fought Sesshomaru to test his strength and she had to fight Inuyasha because his demon blood took over,” Bankotsu replied trying to calm the kit.
The kit paused and looked at Bankotsu, “Why are you helping her? This is all your fault. I know what Inuyasha did. She told me to run while he attacked her.”
The kit started to cry and Bankotsu picked him up, “I did not know what had happened. I am helping her because she spared me and my brothers. Also because I feel bad for what happened. I owe her.”
The kit calmed and crawled from his lap. He continued to clean the wounds. After he was done he pulled out the disinfectant spray and began to spray all of the wounds. He bandaged the smaller ones, but he didn’t know if his mom wanted to stitch the rest.
“Shippo, hand me my bag and the medical kit,” she said weakly.
“Do you want to stitch the wounds?” Shippo asked doing as she said.
“Yes.”
Kagome reached into the box and pulled out a lighter, a needle, some stitching thread, and scissors. They all stared in shock except for the kit. Was this girl about to do what they thought she was? Shippo was the only one unfazed.

Sesshomaru ran at Inuyasha trying to think of what to do. He kept a part of him focused on Kagome. Inuyasha was faster than usual, but not too fast for Sesshomaru to keep up. He refused to even draw his blades, he would deal with his brother somehow. Inuyasha sprang to attack but Sesshomaru moved out of the way and swung his claws back adding a little poison to it. He barely grazed his brother’s arm. Inuyasha made it around him and started for Kagome, but Sesshomaru grabbed him and threw him across the field and crashing into the trees.
He was back up in seconds his red eyes focusing on Sesshomaru. He growled and ran straight to him ready to attack and shred. Sesshomaru moved at the last second catching him around the neck and pinning him against his chest. Inuyasha dug his claws into Sesshomaru’s thigh and twisted. Sesshomaru hit him on the back of the head as hard as he could before letting go. Inuyasha fell to the ground seemingly unconscious.

They all jumped back a little when fire shot from the top of the lighter. They watched in shock as she held the needle above the fire and heated it until it was almost red. After Kagome was sure the needle was cooled enough she grabbed the string and threaded it. Shippo pulled out a second needle and did the same. He was glad he had paid attention when Kagome would stitch up the others because now she needed help and he knew what to do. The Shichinintai watched in shock as she started to sew shut her own wounds.
Did this girl not feel pain? She stabs herself to get in a shot and now here she was stitching her own wounds. Bankotsu put his hand over hers, he didn’t want to watch her hurt herself anymore.
“I’ll do it,” he said taking the needle from her, “Why did you decide to spare us?”
“Because you are merely Naraku’s puppets. He will kill you as soon as you serve your purpose. I just hope that you figure that out in time, because I have a feeling you will be very helpful in the final battle with Naraku.”
Then she glanced over his shoulder and reached into her bag, pulling out some weird metal contraption he had never seen before.
“Get down!” she yelled at him.

Inuyasha had sprung back up and attacked again. Sesshomaru kept fighting trying to find a way to subdue him without killing him. The clearing was almost completely destroyed, both combatants had their share of cuts and bruises. Sesshomaru noticed that Inuyasha kept trying to get past him to Kagome. He continued to block him, fighting him as far away from her as possible. He sent Inuyasha flying with a kick to the chest. Inuyasha snarled and disappeared into the trees.
Sesshomaru opened his senses to try to find him, but due to their fight his aura was all over the field. Plus he had weakened him enough that his aura was harder to detect. He could hear Kagome talking to the mercenaries… wait Kagome. Shit, he cursed himself. He turned just in time to see Kagome pull something out of her bag and Inuyasha appear from the trees not ten feet from her.
‘Shit, I’ll never make it in time.’ He thought moving as fast as he could.
“Get down!”Kagome yelled at the man in front of her, holding up the metal object.
For Sesshomaru everything was moving in slow motion. As soon as the man ducked there was a loud sound like a crack of thunder. Sesshomaru saw a flash at the tip of the object and something flew out and hit Inuyasha in the shoulder, sending him flying back a few steps. He howled in pain.
“Sesshomaru do you want me to finish it?” she asked in a deadly calm tone, still holding the weapon up.
“No, Kagome, I have another idea. I will deal with him,” he replied using all his speed to grab Inuyasha before he reached her.
He quickly pushed the pressure point on Inuyasha’s neck knocking him out instantly. He then summoned Ah Un. Kagome pushed a little button on the weapon and dropped it into her lap. Sesshomaru quickly tied Inuyasha to Ah Un and wrote an order for his guards to lock him in the dungeon with specific instructions on how to chain him so he couldn’t get loose. He turned back to the group to hear all of the mercenaries asking about her odd weapon.
He had to admit, he was curious too. He hadn’t felt any of her energy in the weapon yet it had been enough to stop Inuyasha. Also, judging from what she said it could have killed him. Now he needed to convince her to return to his palace with him. She was his to protect. He could tell he would have a problem though, the leader of the mercenaries. The way he was looking at her, Sesshomaru knew that he wanted her too.
