Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, nor the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: Nee~?! Wow, so many reviews and views already?! Suddenly, I've become a faster writer! *hint-hint*
Thank you for all the lovely comments and ratings! I've read some of them before going into work yesterday and they made my day! The life of a Disney World chef can be a drag, so those reviews helped to give me the extra push I needed to survive the day and come home to continue writing.
Woo! So now I'm drinking a 5-hour energy shot and I'm working on Chapter 4, which might go up tonight...it depends on my new "fan motivation"~ Of course, you could just simply press the little rating button too if you don't like expressing your feelings. Either way, it makes me smile!
So, arigatou gozaimasu! I dedicate this chapter to my lovely, lovely reviewers! Let me know what you think, okay? ;)
P.S: CarinoInu, I'm not sure if I can comment in the review section, but to answer all of your questions, I've tried including the answers in this chapter. (Without giving too much away...)
Enjoy!

Chapter 3: Theirs
~*~*~
“Kagome!”
“Lady Kagome!”
“Kagome, where are you?!” Shippo wailed as he finally collapsed to his knees onto the grass below him.
Sango stopped walking and turned back to go kneel beside Shippo; placing a loving arm around the small, kitsune boy in comfort.
“Don’t worry, Shippo. I’m sure that we’ll find her, maybe she just got lost.” Sango tried to assure, but even she was having doubts about Kagome’s sudden disappearance.
Miroku came beside them and draped an arm across Sango; surprising her because the motion he made towards her wasn’t lecherous.
“I’m sure that we’ll find her soon. She couldn’t have wandered off too far,” Miroku stated before he and Sango exchanged worried looks.
It had been nearly two days since their friend, Kagome went missing. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance were suspicious and what made it worse was that even Inuyasha couldn’t track down her scent.
They have been searching aimlessly and relentlessly for two days without sleep. The thought that their beloved friend was out there in the forest, helpless and scared, motivated them to keep searching.
Kagome had gone to take a bath in the hot springs, but never returned to camp.
It was enough to make their hearts sink in horror at the possibilities.
Luckily, there wasn’t any scent of her blood, which meant that Kagome might still be alive out in the forest.
However, that was also a drawback; there wasn’t any scent at all.
The first thing that had crossed Sango and Miroku’s mind was that Naraku had taken her. The evil hanyou had plenty of spies to spy on them and probably had one waiting for the perfect opportunity to abduct the young miko.
In their moment of weakness and fatigue, they had been careless; now Kagome was missing.
Even Shippo was beginning to suspect that there was something terribly amiss about her disappearance.
No one went missing out of thin air; it was too strange.
“I know this sounds crazy…” Sango started as Shippo and Miroku peered at her curiously.
“What is it, Sango?” Miroku asked cautiously as he watched Sango furrowed her brows together in thought.
“We should probably split up…to cover more area,” Sango clarified as she glanced around the vast forest around them.
“I don’t think that’s such a good idea,” Miroku admitted as he stared into Sango’s bloodshot eyes.
“Yeah, Miroku’s right. What if something else happens?” Shippo whined.
“This forest is large. What if we’re missing something? Maybe Kagome stumbled upon something and it’s being protected. The only way we’re going to find her is if we search the area thoroughly and the only way to do that is to cover more ground separately,” Sango explained.
“Sango, although your reasoning sounds good, maybe you should get some rest first. You’re not thinking clearly…we’re all not thinking clearly. Even Kirara is getting tired,” Miroku sighed as he pointed to the tired neko demon emerging from some bushes.
“Did you find anything?” Sango asked the small, two-tailed, neko demon.
Kirara mewled sadly and shook her head before she hopped onto Sango’s shoulder. Sango stood up and dusted off her knees as the other two stood; mimicking her actions.
“Just a quick rest. That way, we’ll have a bit more energy to search longer and have a clearer head to think straightly,” Miroku stated.
Sango glanced around at her friends before she walked over to a tree and sat beneath it.
“Alright, but only a quick rest. Then we’ll pick up the search again,” Sango gave in with a huge sigh.
Sango didn’t like the idea that her friend, which was like a little sister to her was out there alone and that they had to stop the search to take a break, but even her body was beginning to succumb to fatigue.
Sango hoped that Inuyasha was having an easier time searching for Kagome and that he would return with good news.
Just hang in there, Kagome. We’ll find you soon, I promise… Sango thought before she drifted off into a light nap as the early morning sun warmed her skin.

“Keh, that woman! Always getting herself into trouble!” Inuyasha grumbled to himself as he leapt from tree to tree throughout the immense forest.
Although it was nothing new that Kagome had wound up kidnapped, since every demon in Japan wanted the sacred jewel shards she held, usually they would find her after a while and take care of the nuisance that abducted her.
However, this time it seemed…different.
Something about this situation seemed wrong and it was screaming at senses that this situation was much deeper than it actually appeared.
Inuyasha loved Kagome; although it had taken him some time to admit it.
He would never forget his first love, Kikyo, but Kagome was someone different; someone who truly loved him for what he was.
She was full of life and every time Kagome smiled at him, it made his heart stop. No one else, not even Kikyo when she was alive, seemed to have had that ability.
Kagome had brought a bright light into his dark, tormented world and he would kill anyone who would try to take her away from him.
Once they would defeat Naraku, Inuyasha wanted to profess his true feelings to Kagome, since they would be safe from the constant danger of that evil hanyou.
Kagome deserved a happy and peaceful life with him, which was why he was in a hurry to end the battle with Naraku soon, so that they may start their new lives together immediately.
It was going to be hard to let go of Kikyo, but Inuyasha was fully prepared to do that. If it meant that he would be spending the rest of his life with Kagome, then he would break his promise to the dead miko in an instant.
Kagome deserved so much happiness in her life and Inuyasha wanted to be the one who would give that to her. Even though he had caused her nothing but constant heartache, he was slowly learning to let go of his first love.
Once Inuyasha would find Kagome this time, he would declare his feelings for her a lot sooner than planned. The thought of losing her made him think about his priorities and she was number one on his list.
Now that his heart was completely open to Kagome, he had no doubt in his mind that he wanted to be with Kagome for eternity.
If she would have him, that is…
Don’t worry, Kagome. I’ll find the bastards that kidnapped you and kick their asses. Just you wait… Inuyasha thought with a growl as he narrowed his eyes and leapt even faster throughout the trees.

“Is she awake now?” Sachiko asked timidly as her mother entered into the large kitchen.
Atsuko shook her head as she placed the tray of food down onto a wooden table.
The whole castle was abuzz with the recent news of their Lady and everyone seemed to be thrilled that not only would there be one newborn pup arriving soon, but in fact two.
Everyone was excited…everyone except their Lady, of course.
If anything, Atsuko would’ve expected that her Lady would be content with the fact that she was having children of her own, at least from Lady Rin’s perspective.
However, the news seemed to have shocked and devastated the young woman, even to the point that Kagome would engage in a relentless cycle of sleeping and crying.
The tray of untouched food Atsuko had brought back was the third one today and the older youkai was beginning to worry that her Lady was not receiving the proper nutrition she needed in order to sustain the growing beings inside of her.
Granted, a pup didn’t need too much to survive in the womb, but she was carrying two of them and that would take a bit extra to keep them alive.
Atsuko was stirred out of her thoughts by the sound of her husband sighing.
Hideo had his back turned to his mate and daughter, previously focused on managing the other demon cooks in the room, but even he could no longer hide the concern from his hardened, yet slightly wrinkled face.
Their Lady had only lived here for two days, yet the whole castle seemed to erupt internally with chaos. All the servants wanted to do was gossip and try to sneak a peek at the new Lady, but Hideo had to give a painful reminder every once in a while for them to focus back on their duties.
Hideo turned around to face his family and even Sachiko could tell that her father was being pushed to his limits.
“Still not eating?” He stated, more than asked, with a heavy sigh.
“Our Lady is distraught, but she is currently resting,” Atsuko explained as she gestured towards the food.
“Should we tell Lord Sesshoumaru?” Sachiko whispered anxiously as she glanced from one parent to another.
“It’s already been done. The messenger left hours ago and undoubtedly he should be returning at any moment now,” Hideo said firmly.
Sachiko gulped.
The new Lady was her responsibility as well, and if Lord Sesshoumaru wasn’t satisfied with the way that they’ve been serving her…
Sachiko paled as she thought of the head cook who was executed last night.
The cook was executed fairly quickly, thanks to her mother, because everyone knew that if Lord Sesshoumaru was here to do it, he would kill him slowly and make a public spectacle out of the death without an ounce of mercy.
Unconsciously, Sachiko’s hand wrapped itself protectively around her throat.
“I don’t want to die,” Sachiko blurted breathlessly as she started to quiver.
Atsuko eyed her daughter irritably before she slapped the back of the younger girl’s head.
“Don’t be foolish, Sachiko! We simply need to get the Lady to eat and examined by a healer,” Atsuko hissed.
“Sachiko is right, however. If we don’t satisfy the Lady’s needs, we might as well kiss our own lives goodbye,” Hideo voiced as he rubbed the long, graying hair of his beard.
A brief, uncomfortable silence managed to install itself between the three hawk youkai family members before Atsuko turned to leave the room.
“I’m going to go fetch the healer, but I want you to go on standby outside of the Lady’s bedroom in case she needs anything,” Atsuko ordered Sachiko with narrowed eyes.
Sachiko nodded numbly as she followed behind her mother to leave out of the kitchen. Once she was in the hallway, Sachiko sped off towards the main bedchambers, but as she was running, someone else clad in all black had sped past her in the halls.
She stopped briefly to see who it was and paled when she realized that it was the messenger reporting back to her parents.
What was the messenger going to say?
Was Lord Sesshoumaru angry about the current state of their Lady? Would he be angry enough to come back and kill his loyal staff?
Sachiko felt queasy as the thoughts ran through her mind, but she fought the urge to eavesdrop on the messenger, and decided to go back to assist the Lady.
Why me…? She thought with a whimper.
~*~*~
Kagome tossed restlessly in her sleep, before she bolted up into a sitting position on the futon as a result of her nightmare.
She was sweaty and breathless as she glanced around at her surroundings; realizing that the nightmare that she had just had was in fact, reality.
Kagome was having flashbacks of the night that the demon had raped her, but what made it even worse was the fact that Atsuko had informed her that she was now pregnant.
Pregnant…with twins, nonetheless.
Not only that, a healer came by last night to check on her and had informed Kagome that the babies she was now carrying in her womb were going to be due in a month. The growth of the twins was sped up much sooner due the fact that she was a powerful miko and that their father was a powerful demon.
A month.
That was certainly not enough time to become emotionally ready to have children, especially not in her current emotional state.
Three days ago, she had just been raped. Now she was pregnant with only a month to go before she had to give birth.
This was not what she wanted or how she had planned to have children.
The worst thought of all was that she didn’t even think she could love her unborn children…
Since that thought had occurred to her, Kagome had been drowning herself in misery, thinking that she was a horrible person…a horrible mother, for not wanting to love her children.
It definitely wasn’t their fault that their father had raped her, but it was the fear of the constant reminder of that assault she would face every time she would look into their young, innocent eyes.
The thought alone was nearly enough to destroy her.
It was morning again and this time Kagome couldn’t resist the smell of food, even though mentally, she didn’t feel like eating anything from this place.
Slowly, Kagome reached out to grab the tray of food beside her and placed it carefully onto her lap.
It was a small, simple breakfast consisting of a hot bowl of okayu and a small side dish of nori with a kettle of green tea.
As Kagome quietly ate her meal of rice porridge and seaweed, she began to think about how to escape her predicament.
From what she could tell, her time frame to escape was very limited.
Whoever had raped her was the Lord of this castle and would be returning at any time. If anything, he would probably be returning a lot sooner if he knew that she was currently pregnant, but Kagome didn’t have that knowledge…however, she could ask around.
Kagome also concluded that her whereabouts was completely unknown to her.
Even if she did manage to escape, she would have no idea where she would wind up. She could be on top of Mount Fuji and not know it, since she was confined to this bedroom.
Kagome sighed as she looked at the small, circular window to her left.
It would seem that now would be the perfect time to escape, but she would need more information before she could try anything.
Kagome would have to do this really soon, especially since she was pregnant with only a month before the birth.
As she finished her simple meal, Kagome placed her chopsticks into the bowl and because of the sound it made, it seemed to have attracted someone’s attention from outside of the door.
“Are you finished, my Lady?” Sachiko asked shyly as she peeked through the cracks of the screen door.
Kagome nodded as Sachiko entered into the sleeping room to take away the tray. As the young girl walked towards Kagome, an idea formed inside of her mind and when the girl reached out to take the tray, Kagome quickly grabbed one of her wrists.
“My Lady?” Sachiko asked nervously as she eyed the delicate hand around her tiny wrist.
Kagome offered a small, apologetic smile.
“Forgive me. It’s been so long since I’ve actually talked to someone around my age, that I guess I must be lonely,” Kagome lied as she tried to look as sad as possible.
It wasn’t hard to pretend that she was sad, but she had to be more convincing if she wanted her plan to work.
Sachiko quietly sat down the tray of dishes as she gave her Lady her full, undivided attention.
“It’s okay, my Lady. I understand how you feel. There aren’t any other demons here around my age, so I get lonely too sometimes,” Sachiko admitted with a small blush.
“Please, call me Kagome,” Kagome said as she forced herself to give a gentle smile.
The poor girl was falling right into her trap, but if Kagome wanted to get out alive, then the demon girl would have to be a necessary sacrifice.
“That’s a pretty name, but I’m afraid that our Lord wouldn’t appreciate me calling you by just your name, my Lady,” Sachiko disclosed.
“I see. Then what is your name? I’m pretty sure I heard it before,” Kagome asked; feigning curiosity.
“My name is Sachiko, my Lady,” Sachiko replied cheerfully as Kagome smiled.
“Sachiko… Then Sachiko, can I ask you something?” Kagome asked sweetly; immediately drawing the attention of the younger girl.
“Sure, anything, my Lady!” Sachiko chirped.
“Have you met the man-” Kagome forced to correct herself. “…My mate before?”
Sachiko’s smile faltered as she tried to think of a way out of answering. It’s not as though she didn’t want to tell her about Lord Sesshoumaru, but she just couldn’t.
Sachiko simply nodded to her Lady’s question and Kagome realized that getting a straightforward answer from this girl was going to be a little difficult.
Nevertheless, she still had to try; her time was running out.
“What’s he like, at least? I really want to know…” Kagome said as she placed a hand over her flat stomach before she rubbed it tenderly.
Sachiko’s face lit up as she understood what her Lady was asking. Lady Kagome was curious about her mate and was probably curious as to what her children would be like.
There should be no harm in describing Lord Sesshoumaru…right?
“Well-”
“Pardon me, my Lady. We have drawn the water for your bath, if you would like to take one,” Atsuko interrupted as she entered into the room with an apologetic bow.
When Kagome’s eyes connected with the older woman’s, they both knew what Kagome was trying to do to the naïve young girl beside her.
Sachiko was her only child and even though she respected the new Lady of the West, Atsuko would do anything to protect her own daughter.
She was a little disappointed when she overheard the Lady trying to trick her daughter into giving her information, but she wasn’t completely surprised. Lord Sesshoumaru had warned the older woman about the Lady’s cleverness and it was her own fault for underestimating that ability.
Kagome gave an apologetic smile to Sachiko before she carefully climbed out of the futon.
“The bathing supplies are resting on a rock when you enter into the bath. Please call for us if you need assistance,” Atsuko said with bow as she warily watched the younger woman leave.
When the bedroom door closed, Atsuko quickly turned her daughter and whispered to her fiercely with a warning.
“Whenever the Lady summons you, stay on your guard,” Atsuko warned.
“But why mother? She was only being nice,” Sachiko whined.
“Sachiko, you almost revealed our Lord’s identity. The Lady is clever and she might use you to get what she wants. It’s alright to be her friend, but stay on your guard. Now, take the tray back into the kitchen,” Atsuko said in a low voice.
As she watched her daughter leave with the tray, Atsuko placed a hand over her heart and released a breath she didn’t realized she was holding.
It was a close call. How could one moment of weakness and a lack of supervision proved to be so dangerous?
From now on, Atsuko would make sure that the entire staff in the castle would be on their guard when encountering the Lady.
~*~*~
Sesshoumaru dropped the dead body from his bloodied claw and didn’t watch as fell onto the ground on top of a pile of freshly killed bodies; all of them disintegrating from the deadly amount of poison that came him.
This sorrow coming from his mate; he couldn’t shake it off.
In fact, it was making him very angry.
He had hoped that the news of her expecting would at least cheer her up, but instead, it only deepened her sadness.
It frustrated the Taiyoukai to no end and when he encountered the first living thing that had crossed his path; he unleashed his fury on an unsuspecting human pack of travelers.
What Kagome needed was a distraction, even if it was temporary, and unfortunately, no matter what her servants seemed to do, it either had no effect or it made the situation a bit worse.
As Sesshoumaru began to walk along the sunset colored forest, his ears picked up the sound of distant shouting.
He paused for a moment when he had detected that it was Kagome’s comrades calling for her. At first, he began to ignore them, but when he had also detected that Inuyasha wasn’t with them, an idea formed.
Yes, what Kagome needed was a distraction; someone familiar to keep her company and content until he returned home.
Stealthily and soundlessly, Sesshoumaru made his way towards the unsuspecting group of his mate’s comrades.
It would only be a brief detour, but if there was a possibility that it might make his mate happy to see them, then the detour would be worth it.
~*~*~
It was another restless night as Kagome tossed fitfully in her sleep. When she woke up, however, her eyes were focused on the other side of the futon; staring anxiously at the untouched pillow as her body trembled with anger and fear.
Kagome was curious to know who had done this to her, but she also didn’t want to find out.
She wanted to escape and return back home before her rapist came back for her; fearing that he may try to rape her again.
It certainly didn’t stop him the first time.
Kagome sat up from her position on the futon as she could feel eyes upon her. At first, she could not see anything in the darkness, but slowly, yet surely her eyesight adjusted to the light of the room, provided by the moon shining through the windows.
Sitting in front of her futon was someone she thought she would never see again. The body was broken and bruised, yet the fiery spirit that united them together still burned brightly in her dark brown eyes.
The only noticeable difference, other than the bruises, that Kagome could see was that now the woman in front of her was clad in a similar kimono like her Ladies in Waiting.
The woman offered Kagome a small, sad smile as they both held back unshed tears.
"Sango..." Kagome breathed.
