A few years had passed, the young hanyou grew from a small babe to a young child. He was cared for by his mother and watched over by Aiyuki, who became somewhat of a big sister to him. One day as they were in the gardens Inuyasha watched the people who lived there at the palace playing with a ball. He ran over to try and play with them, curious and wanting to have some fun with them. One of the men stared at the young boy with distaste before he tossed the ball over the bridge. Inuyasha quickly gave chase only to turn around with the ball and hand to see everyone leaving and muttering amongst themselves. He blinked confused, his small white dog ears twitching lightly upon his head. He looked over toward his mother and quickly ran to her arms, leaving the ball there where he had caught it.
“Mom? What's a.... half-breed?” He asked and Aiyuki stopped playing her violin with in the tree above them. Izayoi couldn't keep the tears from falling as she hugged her son close to her. Aiyuki closed her eyes slowly letting out a sigh before she opened them and looked toward the sky. Not long after that day Izayoi became ill and showed no sign of getting better. Aiyuki stayed at her bedside with Inuyasha, watching over her hoping she would get better.“Aiyuki, I thank you for watching over us for so long. Please, make sure Inuyasha stays safe. Teach him well, protect him, help him grow.” The lady smiled softly to the female that had been there for both her and her son for those few long years.“Lady Izayoi you'll fight this!” Aiyuki clenched her fists as her sides, not wincing at all when her claws bit in to her palms.“Mom you can't leave!” Inuyasha hugged her tightly.“Inuyasha, I love you so very very much.” She whispered as she held her son to her. Not long after her arms became limp and her eyes closed gently.“No! No!” He yelled before he looked to Aiyuki tears falling down his cheeks. “Bring her back! Please aneki!” Aiyuki looked away fighting back her own tears. It hurt her to see him like this but there wasn't anything much she could do for the little boy.“I can't.” She muttered softly. When he began to cry even more she grabbed him up in her arms and held him tightly to her, giving her as many words of comfort as she could while the maidens saw to the funeral preparations. She watched the humans bury the one human who never showed them fear nor distaste. She kept her tears and her sorrow hidden, knowing she had to be strong for Inuyasha's sake.“Aneki, what's going to happen now?” Inuyasha looked up to Aiyuki who gently shook her head towards him, she had no clue what was in store for them. They followed the humans back to the palace they had been staying at only to find they were no longer being permitted in.“You lousy ingrates! After protecting your sorry asses you kick us out?!” The demoness growled none too pleased by the turn of event, but her anger was in vain. They slammed the door in their faces. She sighed out and looked down to Inuyasha who didn't seem to like the idea of being locked out. She blinked seeing him staring at the ground and she tried to cheer him up a little. “Well, guess it's just you and me then. Much easier that way I think.”“They kicked us out with no supper.” Inuyasha rubbed at his belly which made a small growling noise. Aiyuki stared at him for a moment before she burst in to laughter.“Well then, let's go see what we can scrounge up.” She quickly lifted Inuyasha up on to her shoulders before she took him out of the village completely and in to the forest. Finding a lake she sat him down before she walked in to the water, Kageyoku drawn and ready. It didn't take her two long to catch a couple fish each for them and not too much long after that she had a fire going and ready, all the while completely oblivious to the two demons circling high above them. Aiyuki put the fish on skewers she had made and watched them cook while Inuyasha kept warm by the fire.“Aiyuki? Where are your mom and dad?” Inuyasha asked her curiously. She looked up from the fire before she looked down, turning the fish around.“They both died when I was around the same age you are now.” She poked at the fire gently to keep it going. “Your father took me in, helped raise me and teach me what I know now.”“What did they die from?” He asked curiously and she looked to him a little surprised he wanted to know so much.“They were killed. We were ambushed on the way to your father's palace, they didn't make it.” She checked to see if the fish was done and she held his out to him. “Careful, they're a little warm.” She smiled gently when he took them and started eating hungrily. She took her own fish and started eating as well, watching the light in the forest change as the sun was setting. Inuyasha waited until Aiyuki had finished eating before he crawled in to her lap, staying close to her. She looked down surprised when he hugged her, never the less she wrapped her arms around him, holding in protectively.“Aneki?”“Hmm?” She looked down to him giving him her attention.“What would happen if we ever got taken away from each other?” He was curious and somehow felt like they weren't going to be together forever. Aiyuki could tell in his eyes he was scared.“Inuyasha I want you to remember what I'm about to tell you. If we ever got separated I want you to run as fast as you can and don't look back. You have to promise me you'll get strong and you'll stay alive.” She reached up and gently rubbed his ears.“I promise.” He muttered and laid his head against her chest.“I'll always watch over you, Inuyasha.” She kissed the top of his head before she reached over poking at the fire a little bit more.“Will you sing that song you're always singing?” He asked softly as his hands clung to her shirt. She blinked and looked down to him.“You.... heard me singing?” She watched him nod his head.“It's sad, but it's a pretty song.” He closed his eyes letting out a yawn. She smiled and leaned her back against a tree while she held on to him, letting him get comfortable. Her eyes focused on the fire before she began to sing for him.“Cannot touch, cannot hold, cannot be together. Cannot love, cannot kiss, cannot have each other. Must be strong and we must let go. Cannot say what our hearts must know. How can I not love you? What do I tell my heart? When do I not want you here in my arms? How does one waltz away from all the memories? How do I not miss you when you are gone?” She looked down and smiled seeing Inuyasha fighting to stay awake, she gently moved his bangs from his eyes while she continued to sing.“Cannot dream, cannot share sweet and tender moments. Can not feel how we feel. Must pretend it's over. Must be brave and we must go on. Must not say what we've known all along.” She closed her eyes gently feeling tears welding up in her arms, her arms held Inuyasha to her closer. “How can I not love you? What do I tell my heart? When do I not want you here in my arms? How does one waltz away from all the memories? How do I not miss you when you are gone? How can I not love you?” She opened her eyes and stared up at the stars, her vision blurring from the tears that threatened to fall.“Must be brave and we must be strong. Cannot say what we've known all along. How can I not love you? What do I tell my heart? When do I not want you here in my arms? How does one waltz away from all the memories? How do I not miss you when you are gone? How can I not love you when you are you gone?” She came to the end of the song and quickly wiped at her tears before she looked down to find the young hanyou asleep. She smiled gently and kept a look out during the night. Several hours passed by and Aiyuki kept herself high on alert, she'd turn and look towards every sound that came near their camp. It wasn't until the fire had died out that she caught the scent of approaching demons. She knew exactly why there were heading in their direction and she wasn't about to let them get a hold of Inuyasha.“Inuyasha.” She gently shook the boy in her arms, trying to wake him.“Hmm? Is it breakfast time?” He sat up rubbing at his eyes sleepily.“No.” She heard the demons getting closer, it wouldn't be long now before she'd be able to see their ugly faces. “I want you to run as fast as you can. Remember what I told you. Run and don't look back.” She stood up placing him on his feet behind her before she unsheathed Kageyoku once more. Inuyasha's ears went flat against his head knowing something bad was about to happen, he could smell the demons that were just seconds away.“No use protecting him, wench!” One of the demons cried out and the whole hoard quickly ambushed her. Aiyuki was ready, she quickly cut down the one who had called out and kept herself between them and Inuyasha.“Now Inuyasha! Run!” She yelled out pushing him in the safest direction while she kept the demons at bay. She had managed after several minutes to cut their numbers down drastically but she underestimated them. Only a few had slipped by her as she began to tire, her wounds giving her troubles. She growled out seeing four of them take off after Inuyasha.“You can't protect the half breed forever.” One of the demons grabbed her by the hair, ready to deliver the final blow that would end her.“Damn you.” She growled out and closed her eyes believing this was the end. Her eyes snapped open when she heard the demons yelling out as a white light engulfed them. She shielded her eyes and waited until the light disappeared before she stood, looking around. The demons were completely gone, not a trace left of them.“Lady Aiyuki!” A woman dressed in a black toga landed on the ground, her wings folded behind her. Her orange eyes held worry as a man dressed in a similar fashion only in white landed next to her. His blue eyes also looked worried for her well being.“Are you alright Lady Aiyuki?” The man's white wings folded back which only seemed to confuse Aiyuki more. She gave them a slow nod.“I guess but... who are you?” She looked to them only to see them bowing to her only just a second after her questioning.“My name is Kai and this is my brother Ryaku.”“We are loyal servants and bodyguards to the Kuroshima clan. We've come to take you back to the east, back to the Snow Palace.” Ryaku smiled softly to her. It had all seemed so confusing, she didn't quite remember them but then again there wasn't much she could remember of her childhood days in the Arctic Wolf territory. She bit her lip and looked back in the direction Inuyasha had run off to.“He's safe my lady, do not worry.” Kai smiled softly as she placed her hand on Aiyuki's shoulder. Aiyuki looked to her and simply nodded before she took off running through the forest, Kai and Ryaku flying overhead to keep an eye out from above. The wolf demon cursed herself for leaving Inuyasha alone but he promised he would live, he promised he would become strong, and she was going to hold him to that. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
