Chapter Two: Admiring You Is Difficult
Sesshoumaru was forced awake from a nightmare. Though it wasn’t so much a dream as it was the replaying of the previous day’s events. Something he really wished was a dream. Opening his eyes he surveyed his surroundings. He then remembered that he was taken in by that hanyou. He actually felt a little angered and insulted that his life had to be saved by someone of her stature. However, his anger should be directed toward the hanyou that put him in such a desperate state in the first place. “If it’s not humans, it’s hanyous…” he mulled over. And to make matters worse, he owed his life to one.
Speaking of, he wondered where she was. The hut was dark, but soft light was coming from somewhere behind him. He tried to move only finding that no matter how hard he tried, his body just didn’t want to listen. The only thing the dog demon could move was his arm, but it was completely numb. He also managed to move his head. He found her kneeling by his side. Todoku was sitting up, but her eyes were closed. She fell asleep trying to keep awake is what it looked like. At first he thought that she wasn’t willing to sleep because he remembered hearing he was in her bed. But behind her another bed was made out for her; so that wasn’t it. And that wasn’t all he noticed.
He wasn’t wearing his own clothes. Looking around a little more he spotted his outfit hanging neatly and delicately on a rack used for drying kimonos after being washed. His armor was also hanging and looked as if it had been brilliantly polished. He wasn’t naked though, he was wearing a very pretty navy blue yukata adorned with pastel cherry blossoms on branches. It was loosely tied with his mokomoko situated around his head like an extra pillow. His hair was pulled back into a braid and situated so that he wasn’t lying on his hair. “So…she dressed me out,” he mused again. He began to wonder if she liked what she saw when she had him naked and changing him into the yukata he now wore. He then scolded himself for thinking of such nonsense.
He gave her a once-over. She had taller ears than Inuyasha, most likely a symbol of her mixed blood. However, she also had a bushy tail, black with white on the tip like her ears. Perhaps her demon blood is more dominant in her system? He didn’t know much about half-demons…he loathed anything to do with them after finding out that one was a member of his family, but he found it interesting that this one is quite different than the one he knows. “Perhaps all of them are unique?” he thought. He looked over her again. She wasn’t human enough to have blemishes or imperfections on her sun-kissed skin; most likely from spending the days tending her herb garden, yet she wasn’t demon enough to be able to hide demon animal traits like animal tails and ears. He also remembered that she had a very unique ability to heal injuries. The same power that treated and closed all his wounds, big and small.
When he had first met her those six months ago, he was so puzzled and surprised at the power she demonstrated, that he couldn’t kill her. He even ignored the fact that she was stalking him with her eyes for quite some time afterwards. Sesshoumaru wasn’t new to females of all types gaping at his beauty. It actually happens so often that he ignores it; except when he’s in a bad mood, then he’d meet the visual stalker with an intimidating glare threatening death. In Todoku’s case, however, she should consider it lucky she got to stare at him so long before he felt her back off.
“Come to think of it,” he mulled once more. “The stare she gave me that night…wasn’t one of lust like all of the other females. It was more of longing. Longing to get to know me. As if she’s heard of me somewhere before. But why?”
Yes. His father was a great dog demon that ruled the western plains, so everyone pretty much knew who he was. But Sesshoumaru wasn’t nearly as famous as his father, at least not at this point. Eventhough he was the heir to his father’s domain, people still didn’t think his father had a son. Two of them at that. It was actually a move his father made to protect them from rogues going after Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha when they virtually had no means of defending themselves when they were young and undertrained.
So the only way Todoku could’ve known about him, would be if she knew his father somehow. Coming to this conclusion made him puzzle over it even more. So much more that he wasn’t aware that he was pondering all this while he stared at her. Stirring her from her sleep.
Todoku’s eyes fluttered open and upon coming into consciousness remembered that she was supposed to be awake. She hastily rubbed the sleep from her eyes and stretched, hoping that would grant her some more energy.
“Oh! You’re awake! Are you in any pain?” Todoku asked returning to her post as ever watchful doctor.
He shrugged her question, “Humph, Hanyou…your senses are keen enough to detect predatory glare in your sleep. I’m impressed,”
Todoku gave a sheepish laugh, “It actually had to be learned…and it wasn’t an easy feat…”
“Yes, that’s quite advanced for someone of your stature. Wonder who would waste their time teaching something like that to you and for what reason…”
Todoku gruffed at his comment or insult, rather. “Boy, he sure is arrogant. Perhaps this was why the Great Dog General wasn’t so keen on me meeting him…”
“Well…” she began. “Like you said, I’m a half-breed. It wouldn’t be fair to leave me fend for myself without knowing how to,”
“I suppose so. It’ll give the demon that kills you more entertainment,” he smirked. The dog demon was literally finding it fun teasing her like this. Wondering what hot button he could press to set her off.
“Right…like the demon who tried to kill you?” she tried to meet him in this little game he was playing. And judging by his reaction, she won by hitting his nerve first. If she ever knew that it wasn’t even a full-fledged demon that did that to him…..“Reminding you why you’re here would probably be too cruel to mention, wouldn’t it?”
He had no words but gave a stare that could put fear into anyone’s soul…except perhaps Todoku’s. Who was at this moment showing him a confidence that said “Yuck it up, I’m not the one who’s nearly paralyzed,” Todoku sighed. “I’m not as dumb as you take me for. I know I’m scorned by demons and humans alike, so whatever. But I put all that aside when it comes to my duty here as a doctor. And so do the patients. When I healed you some months ago, you were about to strike me, am I right? Something made you stop that night…what was it?”
He turned away from her. Instead of winning this petty game, she humbled his arrogance pretty quick in this short war of words. She had him there, he could’ve killed her. If he was really that scorned at her just for being a half demon he would’ve killed her even if she had literally saved his life back then as she is now.
She hated the silence that little game created. This wasn’t the person she was, “Nevermind, we don’t need to be making each other mad or emotional. Especially you. So, any discomfort or pain?” She gave him that gentle smile and began to pull the comforter back and open his yukata which caused him to give her a questioning look. “Don’t worry. Just going to check your heart and see how strong it is,” Todoku said. She then put her ear to his chest. He wasn’t as offended by her touch as he was when he first met her. Then he felt that same feeling that he experienced when he saw her tearful face of joy. An emotion that never played in his mind before and made him feel…..good. What was it? Sesshoumaru didn’t even realize that he mindlessly put his hand on her head; as if to press her head to his chest. He tried his best to nonchalantly move his hand from her head before she noticed. He actually prayed she hadn’t. What the hell was he thinking?!?
Todoku, however, couldn’t help but notice his hand on her head. It actually made her heart skip a beat. She found it difficult to stay focused on her profession, “Hmm, your heart is still struggling,” a blush was evident on her cheeks and she had to internally remind herself what she was talking about. “You lost so much blood that even the greatest of demons will have a very tough time getting back to health,” She closed his yukata back up and pulled the covers back over him comfortably.
“So I figure you’ll be down for at least 6 to 12 days, give or take,” Todoku just couldn’t hold back the stretch and yawn that forced their way out of her body.
“You should rest,” his voice actually startled her. What, was he not so arrogant anymore?
“What?” it wasn’t so much a question as it was the only thing she could reply at the moment.
“If I’m going to be ‘down’ for that long, I don’t want my supposed healer sleeping on the job. My body is precious, messing it up would mean death for you,”
Nevermind.
Todoku had to keep her anger and the urge to just backhand him under control. Pointless to get emotional anyway. He didn’t need added stress and neither did she. So she just took a deep breath, “Alright,”
Todoku then moved around to where his head was. “What are you doing?” he asked. “Your bed is in the opposite direction,” he said hoping to take one last hit to her nerves again.
“I’m aware of that, Mr. Dog Demon. I’m just going to fluff and flip your pillow for you,”
“Mr. Dog Demon? My name is Sesshoumaru, Lord Sesshoumaru to you,”
Todoku kneeled behind his head and lifted it to rest on her thighs while she prepared his pillow. The intimate position actually made his heart flutter rather than make him angry. So much so it made him awkward and uncomfortable. After refreshing his pillow, she lifted and rested his head comfortably back on the cushion.
After she made it back to her bed she replied to his earlier remark. “Honorifics are for those who deserve respect, Sesshoumaru. And to get respect one must earn it. You can’t just flaunt your power, demand respect, and then kill those who don’t. Then who would bow down to you and give you that satisfying respect you desire?”
“You better be glad I can’t move, damn hanyou…” he growled.
Todoku yawned and turned in her temporary bed away from him. “Yeah, yeah…just relax now, okay?”
He took a deep breath out of anger and flinched. Funny how one would be paralyzed yet still feel pain. She was actually right. And he hated it. He couldn’t make a viable threat in his current condition and she managed to humble him for the second time that night. Sesshoumaru then realized that he may not have been the only one to make similar threats at her when she treated less-than-grateful patients.
He turned his head away and tried to control his burning nerves. It was pointless to get angry when he can’t do anything about it, so he just tried to relax enough to fall asleep. And thankfully it came.
----Dream State---
The room was dimly lit by a small oil light in the corner. Silk wrapped his sweaty body. But Sesshoumaru wasn’t alone in this sea of silk. His body was looming over another, hips grinding into his partner. The ecstasy of the intercourse was much more intense than he’d ever experienced. Then his partner was mewling and crying in pleasure, begging for more by holding him intensely around the waist. He looked down….
It was Todoku.
She was throwing her head back and baring her neck to him. Her skin sweaty and flushed pink. Her breasts bobbing with every thrust. “Lord Sesshoumaru!” she cried. “I’m almost there, my lord! I-I’m gonna……” she panted.
He couldn’t stop even after realizing who it was. He needed release as much as she did and quite frankly had no intention of stopping. Her scream of passion was the last thing he heard before coming to.
----End Dream State---
Sesshoumaru peeled his eyes open slowly. He was covered in sweat with the yukata sticking to his skin. His groin throbbing intensely in aftershock. The only think he could think of was, “What. The. HELL was that?”
