Disclaimer: I DO NOT OWN INUYASHA, NOR THE CHARACTERS FROM IT. I MAKE NO MONEY FROM THE TELLING OF THIS STORY. |
I do not own Inuyasha or any of the characters from the series. I also make absolutely no money from the writing of this story. (I really wish I did though) Flames will be eaten and probably hacked back up by my cat. (Ewww.)
Side note; I’m sorry that each of the chapters look different. Still trying to get the hang of editing.
Finally figured out what a beta is and damn, do I wish I had one.
Warning: there will be foul language and a hint of sexual thoughts: Sorry, there is no lemon in this chapter. I’m trying to fill out the story.
To those who wish this to be updated faster, I apologize. I’m writing as fast as I can, but even I have no idea where this story is going.
On with the Story:
Inuyasha sped through the forest faster than he ever had in his life. Moving swiftly he made no sound as he ran. His long, waist length silver hair flowed behind him like a banner. Ears were pricked forward listening for any hint of sound or danger. Dodging tree limbs, jumping as far as he was able, he became a blur to human and (surprisingly) demon sight. The half-demon noticed none of this. His golden eyes were focused solely ahead and narrowed in concentration to avoid any obstacles in his path.
Inuyasha plainly had only one thought and goal in mind; Sesshomaru.
Though Inuyasha had not perceived anything out of the ordinary, his youkai did. Staying in the back of the hanyou’s mind it was quietly taking note of all that was happening. The forest had fallen utterly silent. Animal, human and demon alike, all had frozen in fear. They could sense something dangerous was coming, but could not see or hear it. All were relieved when the deadly aura passed by. None had seen what it had been nor did they wish to find out.
How was this possible? The body had never been capable of this before? Amazing strength was surging inside, casting out a strong demonic aura. Where was it coming from? The youkai began searching, slowly and carefully as to not distract its other half.
Hmm, from the outside it seemed.
Taking a thorough inventory of the body it ultimately found the source. The center of the body was gathering energy from its surrounding area. Transmuting it to a power the body could use. It was a type of spiritual strength. Apparently, as the youkai had gained power so too had the human half. And wasn’t that interesting?

Kuriyama did not look forward to this visit with her younger brother, being a seeress was sometimes a burden. Especially, when the news she brought was not good. Hearing snarls and growls coming from Neikan’s wing she rolled her eyes and almost turned around. He out of all the siblings had the most explosive temper, maybe because he was the youngest. Not that she thought he would harm her, but just being in his presence while he was angry was not a pleasant thing to endure. Maybe she should wait until he calmed down. She was deluding herself; he had been up here for two days.
Telling Kumori and Akuma had not been all that hard; both had gotten angry but kept it well in check. Her older brother and sister went their separate ways to work out the last vestiges of their displeasure. Cat demons were notorious loners. Kuriyama cared for her siblings, but with each member of the family being a different species it was sometimes a struggle to get along. Nevertheless, for years they were able to tolerate each other’s company, because the prospect of ruling the world was a powerful thing. They still did not understand how their father had been able to accomplish that. Not that any of them were interested enough to look for the solution. His being a sorcerer was probably the most sensible answer.
Most likely Kumori had headed towards water; being a tiger demon he said it relaxed him. Akuma was probably in a tree, because leopards loved to be high, staring longingly to the West. The seeress wished that her sister would get over this infatuation soon. If her brothers’ ever found out about it… she wasn’t even going to think about what their reactions would be.
Shaking her head slightly to gather her thoughts, Kuriyama opened the door.

Neikan rampaged throughout his wing of their castle. How in the name of the Gods did they forget about the disgusting hanyou? Going up against Sesshomaru, he had figured that victory would be a given. Four-to-one put the odds in their favor after all. Individually each of them was strong. Together they were almost invincible. Granted the Daiyoukai was formidable, being nearly as powerful as all of them combined. Still, Sesshomaru would have to fight off four attacks at once while they would only have to deal with him. Success was supposed to be guaranteed. Plus, the so-called Lord of the Western Lands was dealing with the insidious spell his brother had concocted and one of their agents had activated inside the castle.
Now the half-brother seemed to be in the mix, though he did not seem to be working with his family member. Inuyasha was thousands of miles from Sesshomaru’s chosen home. At least he was according to his sister, Kuriyama. Neikan knew they didn’t get along that well, so he didn’t really believe the younger son of InuTaisho would help out his older sibling. Although, didn’t they fight side by side against the half-demon Naraku. Kami, he was getting angry all over again. He strode over to his closest window and threw open the shutters. Leaning out Neikan breathed deeply hoping to settle down a little when he heard his bedroom door open. Catching the scent of jaguar he knew it was Kuriyama.
“What do you want?” The young lion asked without turning around. He was still barely controlling his temper. He had no wish to see anyone just yet.
Kuriyama sighed softly in exasperation. “The least you can do is look at me when I’m talking to you,” she replied softly.
A guttural snarl was her only answer.
“Fine, I’ll simply say it then.” Kuriyama spoke quietly, “Within the last two days I have lost the ability to see or even sense Inuyasha. The only thing I do know for certain is he seems to be moving towards Sesshomaru’s castle.”
Neikan’s roar shook the whole castle.

Sesshomaru’s Castle:
“What are we going to do?” whispered one guard to another.
The second replied. “I guess we wait to see who wins. No matter what she says, I’m still not sure the plan will work.”
Neither was aware of the third.
“So, there are traitors in the castle? Well, well the fun begins.” The tall swordsman named Daichi laughed softly to himself as he went to find his comrades.
Striding confidently through the halls the demon stopped for nothing and no one until he reached the banquet hall. (Sesshomaru was kind enough to let guards use the banquet hall for all their meals as long as there were no visiting dignitaries, because the mess hall was on the other side of the castle. (It meant he had twice as many cooks and servants, but the Lord had always said it was well worth the price, otherwise he would have to listen to guards complain.) His mate, Hayato was eating dinner with all of their friends. They were, among all of Sesshomaru’s troops, elite of the elite.
But Daichi had eyes for only one of them.
“Kami, he’s gorgeous,” Daichi thought to himself as he closed the distance between him and his brother. It was almost enough to make him forget what he had come for in the first place.
After seating himself next to his sib he whispered almost inaudibly, “There are traitor’s within the castle.”
The six others at the table imperviously stilled at that statement. All knew something was wrong, but they did not expect this.
“I know.” Replied his elder brother rather calmly.
A falcon, fox, snow leopard, eagle, hawk, wolf and assassin demon were shocked speechless by this response.
Daichi hissed back, “What? Why wouldn’t you tell us? We could at least have looked for signs, been on guard.”
“Nothing has been done against the Lord, so all I can do is to make sure they are always watched.” The general of Sesshomaru’s army answered, not all that happy about being questioned. “Although I can only be on guard against the one’s I know about. Too, I have no proof.”
“That makes no sense what-so-ever. Who’s watching them if not us? Why would you not trust us to do our jobs? Any of us,” He waved his hand around the table to include the other’s. “We are joined together by our fealty to our Lord, not to mention our bonds to each other.” Daichi swore passionately. “We protect him as he protects us. If he is within any danger at all, we should have been informed IMMEDIATELY. Never would this party betray the Lord of the Western Lands! He is our Lord and we… WE stand TOGETHER. WE are FAMILY.” He snarled, though his voice never rose above a whisper so it wasn’t heard by anyone outside their area.
Looking up, the highest ranking official in Sesshomaru’s army saw that everyone at their table was staring at him and nodding their heads. The elder dropped his head in shame, acknowledging that his mate was correct.
“I’m sorry.” That wasn’t right, Hayato was never submissive.
“Come with me, my brother.” Daichi held out a hand to his mate. He needed to see the healer this minute.

The Healer and the Lord:
Daisuke was worried about his Lord. Making more of the sleeping drought he let his thoughts wander.
Long had he served Lord Sesshomaru and never had he seen him like this. The daiyoukai usually let his guard drop a little around the healer, not completely for he allowed no one to know the whole of him.
Lord Sesshomaru’s icy control was legendary among demons. No emotions were shown unless he wished them to be. Until Rin most had thought he did not know what a smile was. Granted it was hardly noticeable but it did happen. The only other person to get a reaction out of the Lord was Inuyasha. Just hearing his name was enough to cause Sesshomaru to scowl.
Daisuke shook his head, the feud between brothers should never have started in the first place. The healer did not approve of what Sesshomaru had done to his sibling. He had told his Lord to bring the boy home when Izayoi had died.
“Never will that filthy half-breed live in this castle.” Sesshomaru snarled.
That never stopped Daisuke from bringing it up again. Sometimes his Lord needed to know that not everyone agreed with his actions. There were others who did not approve either. Not that the Lord truly cared. As long as they obeyed there was nothing Sesshomaru concerned himself with.
The fact that Inuyasha had survived at all was a testimony to InuTaisho’s superior blood line. Hearing about his exploits with Naraku, the healer was amazed at how much strength the hanyou truly had, especially since he was so young. Sesshomaru had always told him that the half-demon was weak. Apparently his Lord did not know much about his younger brother. That or he ignored it. Daisuke thought the second option more plausible.
InuTaisho’s sons were clearly nothing alike. The younger was brash, aggressive and vulgar. The elder was calm, arrogant and regal. Daisuke always thought that they were like the sun and the moon. Completely opposite yet they complimented each other perfectly. Inuyasha was the fire to Sesshomaru’s ice.
If they ever did become close to acting like actual brothers, should he tell them what InuTaisho had known from the start upon seeing Inuyasha in the cradle?
They were destined to become not only mates, but mates of the heart and soul. The strongest bond found among demons, most did not even know it existed. Only once in the history of their world had it ever been confirmed. It combined the couples strength, making each much more powerful. Their lives would become so closely intertwined that they would become almost one, though their personalities would remain the same.
Daisuke wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or bad considering who the brothers were.
The healer sighed sadly, it was an improbable dream. It would be centuries before it would likely come to pass. He wondered if he would be alive to see it.
A knock to his stillroom interrupted the healer’s thoughts.
“Enter.” Daisuke said.
Daichi came in carrying his mate like a child. Carefully laying an unconscious Hayato on the table, Daichi brushed back the bangs covering his brother’s forehead.
The healer rushed to the side of the general, fingers reaching for a pulse.
“He passed out as we were coming here. I don’t know what’s wrong with him.”
“What symptoms did he have before that?” asked Daisuke.
“None, Healer I went to the dining hall to tell him there were traitors in the castle and he said he already knew.” The shorter man stared at the falcon demon in disbelief. Nodding his head the demon continued, “I know and when I called him on it in front of the group and when he saw that they agreed with me he bowed his head and he…. he apologized.”
“What?” Daisuke didn’t think he could be more shocked. Had he ever heard Hayato say he was sorry? Well maybe once to Lord Sesshomaru but that was more of; forgive me for having failed you than an apology. “His heartbeat is stable,” Daisuke said while pulling up one eyelid then the other. “But his pupils are dilating and then constricting, hmm… strange. You say he was eating?”
“Yes, with the others.” responded Daichi.
“Find them, bring them here now.” The healer ordered.
He needn’t have bothered since as soon as he spoke the door to his stillroom swung open and the six stood there. “Should have known they wouldn’t be far.” He thought. The Eight as they were called, consisted of four mated pairs. The tightly knit group was fiercely loyal only to each other and to their Lord. They had bonded through their love of fighting and their superior skills.
All were master swordsmen and striking in their own unique way.
Hayato (Falcon) had long fire, red hair that was pulled into a topknot with a braid just reaching the floor, which was impressive since his strong body stood at 6’ feet 8” inches, Daichi (Falcon) was an imposing demon (even though he was shorter than his brother, 6’ 2”) with strawberry blond hair in a topknot that fell midway down his back and a heavily muscled body.
Etsuo (Snow leopard demon) with white hair that just reached below his chin and unusual pale spotted skin stood next to his mate, Chikako (Kitsune) her waist length sable hair was glowing in the candlelight and her tail was whipping around agitatedly.
Fusao (eagle) had short black hair with highlights of purple and a foot wide symbol of wings on his back, not many had the mark of their demon, had his arms around his lover, Akiyoshi (hawk) who had pale floor length blond hair and also had wings, though hers were slightly smaller and ran across her chest.
Last but not least there was Hachi (wolf) knee length deep black hair and fangs that slightly overlapped his bottom lip was standing partially in front of his cousin and mate, Arashi (assassin) who had rare light blue hair that fell to his shoulders and a strange pair of markings in the shape of daggers on his palms.
To be one of the few they called friends, Daisuke considered himself truly privileged.
“None of you are feeling unwell or even a little bit off?” Daisuke asked, turning to observe them.
All shook their heads negatively.
The healer continued his examination of his patient. Pocking and prodding he found nothing unusual. Letting out his youkai, Daisuke found a small amount of poison. It was slowly spreading throughout the general’s body, but what type was it?
Daisuke raised his head while sniffing deeply. “Ahh, it is a noronoro poison.” The healer quickly walked to the back of his rooms to select the proper antidote, then rejoined the group.
Undoing the lid he carefully put a few drops in a dropper, administering the kaizen cure he sat back and waited.
It did not take long for it to work. Hayato opened his eyes slowly. His body felt like he had been in a fight, one that he had lost, though he remembered nothing. Trying to sit up he felt Daichi put a hand to his shoulder to keep him still. Why was he so weak? Looking at his comrades and seeing their expression’s Hayato knew something was wrong. Why were they all looking worried?
“Why am I here?” he said.
“You have been poisoned, my shogun. Lie quietly for a moment.” Daisuke said softly.
Hayato’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Poisoned?” he asked.
The healer nodded his head, sometimes it took a while to for the mind to begin thinking clearly. “Yes.” He Daisuke stated quietly. “What is the last thing you remember?”
“Waking up and jumping Daichi, he had the most remarkable erect…” Hayato trailed off blushing. What was wrong with him? He hadn’t meant to say that, he never talked about his love life. For Gods sake, he could even feel himself turning red.
The others laughed and Daichi just looked smug. Did nothing embarrass the boy?
“How was this even possible?” Hayato asked trying to regain his composure.
“It was a noronoro poison, very slow acting. You were probably given it a few days ago in either food or drink. Your brother and I will explain everything that happened.” Daisuke said, with that he turned to the remaining six. The tension that had gone down at Hayato’s words was coming back full force. He could see the rage in their eyes and bodies.
“And we, we will hunt.” snarled the wolf, flashing his fangs. With that the six left.
Someone, somewhere was going to die.
