Sango and Miroku woke to yelling. They didn't catch all of the words but by the final “Sit” and Thud they were up.
“What did you do this time Inuyasha? ” Miroku's tone was both accusatory and exasperated.
It took a minute for Inuyasha to get up, groaning. He looked at the floor and sighed. It'd just been
fixed last week. He didn't look up when he replied to Miroku. “What I had to. Piss off...”
“Don't give me- us that.” Miroku growled and grabbed Inuyasha's lapel to make him look at him.
“Stop, both of you.” Sango chided, separating the 2 with a glare, then softened “Inuyasha, what is
going on? We did hear a little and it didn't make sense.”
He was quiet for a little bit then sighed. “I can't tell you yet. I... Where's Kirara?” The place where
Kirara had been sleeping earlier was empty. Inuyasha sniffed the air. “Shit.”
“What's- ” Comprehension dawned on Sango's and Miroku's faces.
The door crashed against the outside of the house followed by a scream. When Sango and Miroku
got outside Inuyasha was clutching his face on the ground. There was also a strong scent in the air
even to the humans.
“She really didn't want to be followed...” Sango observed raising her eyebrows. Nearby was a type
of herb burner similar to what Sango used to smoke out some demons. “It's not harmful it just
smells strongly.”

Not too far away, 2 hours as the Nekomata flies, a lone figure stood on an outcropping on the side
of a mountain. Behind him was a cave where his comrades slept. A scent had drawn him out of the
cave, he knew her scent through the thousands, probably more that blew on the wind.
“Kagome.” The name was like honey on his tongue and brought up fond memories. He sniffed
again. She was coming closer but something seemed off. What is it? Sniff. The mutt isn't with her...
what is she doing out along at this hour...? She could be in danger.
He was 15 feet away before his growl faded from the air.

Kagome was tired and she knew Kirara was too. Her temper had cooled and she knew what she
was doing was probably idiotic. “I'm sorry Kirara, thank you. Catch you some fish and get you some
cream as soon as I can.” Kagome scratched the large cat's neck as they flew.
Kirara growled companionably and wriggled a little.
Sighing Kagome continued to mull over the say while she scratched Kirara's neck. She knew
running away was rash. She likely hurt Sango and Miroku, not just Him, but she just couldn't stay.
She knew people who would take her in for a time while she figured things out. Right now she was
thinking of Jenenji and his mother, but there were other's she had helped over the years who she
still kept in some contact with.
“Kagome!”
Kagome jumped and nearly lost her seat on Kirara. She knew that voice and it wasn't the one she'd
been half expecting. Kirara had flown lower while Kagome was lost in her thoughts before. Now she
was close enough for Kagome to have jumped, if she hadn't been hurt. In the clearing below her
almost glowing between the tears in her eyes and the moonlight stood Koga.
“Kagome what are you doing here with just Kirara?” Koga asked as they lowered the rest of the
way. Then under his breath and either ignored or not heard by Kagome “What is that mutt-face
thinking?”
Kagome was still quiet, her anger and adrenaline had waned. Her ankle throbbed and she felt like
she might cry and she didn't want that.
Mewing Kirara lowered herself as low as she could so Kagome could get down easier.
“Kagome? What is going on? Where were you going? And why are you alone?” Kogo came closer to
help her down but she had already slid off the Nekomata's back. Though she tried to keep her
weight on the good ankle but she lost her balance and her bad ankle couldn't take the extra strain.
Koga caught her easily in his arms almost hugging her as he took her weight. “Are you hurt? If that
muttface let you get hurt I'm going to kill him. What's wrong? Kagome?”
Her stumble and the position she was in was too reminiscent of earlier and the damn broke. “Koga!”
She wrapped her arms around him and cried into his chest.
“Shhh. It's alright.” He stroked her hair. I'm going to kill that mutt, and if he did this, I'm really going
to kick the shit out of him first. “You're hurt, c'mon.” He swept her up in his arms.
Kagome gasped as the familiarity and shame she felt from crying already tried to swamp her. She
looked up at Koga. He smiled at her despite his anger at Inuyasha.
“I don't know what happened but you're alright now.” He whistled, “C'mon Kirara there's no need for
you to fly back tonight either.” He jerked his head as he spoke for Kirara to jump up into Kagome's
arms.
Koga didn't bring Kagome back to the cave he had shared with his companions but to a hut that
they maintained for the sick. They'd had an illness run through the wolf clan and when Kagome had
come to help this was one of the things she had recommended. They now had small hidden
huts scattered through the mountains and a larger one in a more central point. All had a stock of
supplies that were well maintained, in his opinion.
He set Kagome down inside and started a fire, she'd been shivering. The nights were getting cooler
and she was probably exhausted. He smelled a salve she had used on him once for a more minor
injury but nothing else except tears and an odd smoky smell. She took a bandage off her ankle and
winced a little. There's the injury. It didn't look too bad but he could tell both that it hurt her and that
she had it well in hand. That mutt will pay... He retrieved blankets from a shelf. “You should sleep.”
He made a bed on the floor for her, close enough so she wouldn't have to get up to get into it.
Not long later she lay staring into the fire. “Thanks.” Her voice was quiet and hoarse
What did that muttface do....?
He brushed her cheek tenderly. “You've stopped crying.”
She leaned into his touch as if craving the comfort and warmth. That was new. He lay behind her,
letting her keep the blanket she'd wrapped around herself already, and pulled another one over them
both instead. He wrapped his arms around her, he could feel her cold through the blanket.
“Kagome you're so cold.” He pulled her into him tighter.
She tensed in his arms before relaxing. “Koga.”
Even Koga could hear the uneasiness in her voice. “Relax I won't do more than hold you.” He
paused “Unless you ask, and even if you do, not while you're hurt like this.”
She couldn't betray a man who didn't want her even in the same time period as him. She relaxed
into Koga's arms. “I'm not hurt.”
“Don't lie.” He admonished lightly, squeezing her gently.
She didn't reply to Koga. She was getting sleepy now between the fire's warmth and Koga's. “Kirara,
please wake me before you leave.”
“Mew.”
Koga noticed her voice seemed more relaxed at least. He sighed breathing her in. He loved her
scent. “Kagome, what happened?”
She took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. Her voice was slurred with sleep. “He said... He said
he wants me to leave him.”
Idiot Muttface... Koga squeezed her again gently and leaned his head closer to her neck and
whispered into her ear as soft as a breath. “I would never ask you to leave me. I love you Kagome.”
She wasn't sure which made her shiver pleasantly, feel warm inside, and cause her to pull a sharp
breath in. It might have been Koga's voice, his breath on her ear, the kiss he placed on her neck after, or any combination of the three.
“I might have accidentally lied to you earlier. This is all I'll do for now.” Koga's breath moved from
her neck back up to her ear and back down to her neck. It started as gentle as a kiss but quickly
stung like he was nibbling on her neck but it felt good.
A quiet sound somewhere between a moan and a wimper slipped out. “K-Koga...”
“Turn towards me love.” He stroked her hair gently as she relaxed again and slept. "Sleep, I've got
you." He wondered if her sleep addled mind caught the double meanings before he drifted off
himself. He had not held another since Ayame and he had parted. At the end of the day that was a
marriage of convenience anyway, it was nothing like having his Kagome. My Kagome... My
Kagome in my arms calling my name. He gave her another light squeeze and kissed her hair.

“Kirara's back!” Shippou's clear voice rang out.
Inuyasha ran so fast that he felt he rivaled Koga.
“There's a letter for you Inuyasha,” Shippou handed Inuyasha a cleverly folded piece of paper he
was sure was designed to frustrate him.
When he finally got it open a fine powder blew off the paper into his face. He screamed obscenities
clutching his face, mostly his nose, once more.
Sango and Miroku ran out of the house taking in the scene.
“It must be from Kagome.” Miroku looked at Inuyasha critically. “Only she'd know how to cripple him
like that without actually hurting him.”
Sango had picked up the letter Inuyasha had dropped. “I'm safe. Don't come after me. Sango,
Miroku, Shippou I'm sorry. PS, it might be best if Inuyasha doesn't smell Kirara...”
“What?! Why?!” Inuyasha said in a voice that sounded like he had a bad head cold. He pulled in a
big Sniff. “Dambit! Kagobe! I can'pt - thmell - anyfing!”
“Whoa...” Sango said after rescuing Kirara from Inuyasha's nose. “...because I know how much he
dislikes the smell of catnip.”
“Just what did you do?” Shippou was alternating between puzzled and awestruck.
“I think you owe us an explanation.” Sango said with Kirara in her arms.
Inuyasha looked away. “I told her there's a way for her to return to her own time and I think she
would go.”

Author's note:
What will happen to little Rin now??
Also when I started writing this part I hadn't intended for Koga to highjack the story and our rash
stubborn heroine. She's got a mind of her own though, I'll be interested to see what comes next
myself.
Also fair warning I may trip from the original storyline by accident, I'm rewatching but I'm not
remembering as much as I thought I did. I'll try to stay true though. And still have fun. ;)
