Inuyasha had left not long after he pricked his finger with his rather dangerous nails, she had rushed to grab a vial from her grandfather’s old medicine cabinet; he had been obsessed with homemade remedies and tinctures which for once proved useful since she had a small glass vial on hand for this odd moment. She was staring at the small vial now, she could feel the power that rolled off of it. “Why did you agree to give this to me?” she spoke to it, as if it were the dog eared man himself.
Kagome put it in the safe; she wouldn’t risk any chances on something so precious being taken or misplaced. It would be hidden until she used it, and she had to wait till she had everything she needed so she would keep it locked away and bound it so nothing could feel its power in her home. Just like her own. Kagome sighed, she hated having a life full of secrets and deep down she hoped that this would make her life easier in at least one area. Her phone began to ring, making her run to see who was on the other end via caller id. Hojo. She couldn’t handle him at the moment so she pressed the button that turned off the ringer. “Take a hint.” She mumbled to the still flashing picture of him as he called once more.
She wanted sleep, as much sleep as she could get but it was already so late and Sango would be at her door first thing in the morning with the damn sun. Kagome pre-made coffee and fell into her bed but she might as well have just blinked as her head hit the pillow because the smell of coffee and the bangs of Sango’s fist pounding on her door was but a moment later. “SLAVE DRIVER!” She hated her best friend right now, because unlike the day before she didn’t wait in the car she had let herself in with the hideaway key among the rocks around the sacred tree.
“Maybe someone shouldn’t be out till all hours of the night on the back of motorcycles.” Kagome’s eyes flew open. “Now get up and come drink this coffee with me. I got here early so you could spill.” The words were fading as she walked further into the house. Got here early? The clock said she was an hour early, Kagome wanted to cry because instead of five hours of sleep she now had four.
“Oh no.” She mumbled into the pillow, “The gods really do hate me.” She was wearing a t-shirt and panties, but the t-shirt was more like a dress on her since she was short out of her heels. She couldn’t function yet, she ended up at her kitchen table with inside out pajama pants. Sango laughed so hard she snorted, Kagome hated her even more until the laughter became infectious and the sharply dressed bestie was picking out some clothes for the sleepy priestess and shoving coffee down her throat. Ten minutes later Kagome was wearing pinstripe pants, three inch heels, a button up blouse that was a light shade of green with ruffles going down from the collar to her stomach with a light layer of makeup.
“I might be a slave driver, but my slaves look good.” Sango winked while Kagome handed her a bagel.
“True.” She sat at the table, sipping her coffee and nibbling her own bagel. Waiting for the questions, dreading the look.
“Spill it all. Where did you two go? Why did you ride with him? Why didn’t you go out with me last night? And how in the hell did he get you to ride a motorcycle?!” Sango sat back in the chair, expectant and gaze unwavering. It didn’t matter that she was eating a bagel because she was downright scary when she put her interrogation face on- no wonder her family had been demon slayers in the feudal era.
“Well, You see. When your husband realizes that he has walked into his office for about the tenth time and comprehends that it is actually his and not some neat freaks office it will become clear why I didn’t go out last night. I was making my job easier and trying to catch up on the months work in a day. I lost track of time ‘Kagomeing’- she made the quotation marks because all of her friends deemed it was a thing- the office.” She sipped her coffee, “And I got on the bike because I missed the bus.” She tried to scoot by it.
“Lie.” Kagome glared at Sango as she popped a piece of bagel into her mouth.
“No lie. Just vague. And honestly, if you must know.” She stood then, grabbing her purse. “He implied I was scared. So I got on the bike.”
Sango smirked, “You liked it.”
“I’m not saying another word.” She unplugged the coffee pot. “We are gonna be late.”
Thirty minutes later they walked into the office and it was a moment worth a thousand lifetimes. Miroku was wandering around, his hair unkept and shoulders hunched over. “My office.. I know it’s this way…” he was mumbling then counting and opening his office door only to look in and shake his head, close the door and open the next one.
“Wrong one.” He jumped, turning to look at the women with the hand caught in the cookie jar look toddlers were famous for.
“Sango… My love. My office is missing.” He rubbed the back of his head then, apparently he really did need his nap at work.
“No-” Kagome interjected, “I just cleaned it and arranged your desk.”
“You mean it’s still here? The same one?” He counted from the door he was at and nodded, walking in with a rather ridiculously cautious slide.
“Nothing is going to get you Miroku. It’s just clean!” Kagome shook her head as she left Sango, who had a rather mischievous look on her face, to deal with Miroku in his office- with the door closed. She was going to start coffee because her poor boss needed it more than what Sango needed on the regular. She laughed to herself, their marriage had perverted her as much as Sango’s husband had been hoping it would.
“What’s so funny?” She jumped, whirling around to see Inuyasha standing close enough to her that she could smell his cologne over the aroma of coffee. How had he gotten that close? She almost reached out to touch him… trace her fingers over- NO! His smirk was delicious, but his words made her squeak, “Those are mine.”
“Good morning Inuyasha. Just thinking about Sango.” She spoke quickly, but his ears twitched to the sounds of their friends from Miroku’s office and her eyes shifted briefly. He smirked, she blushed and suddenly his eyes seemed to harden in a way that was purely all male. He could smell her arousal and confusion due to his proximity, she knew it and he knew what he was smelling. For some reason the knowledge of him knowing it was making her press her legs together a bit harder than usual which put a tad bit of pressure in the wrong spot. Her body tried to shiver from the sudden and quick pressure against her lower region though she stifled it, but it wasn’t lost on him.
“Careful Kagome, the break room seems to be…” he trailed off, smelling her excitement and arousal spike slightly when he spoke. Sango could be heard in the distance now, the room seemed to be smaller. He wanted to touch her and the smell of sex was in the air which made it harder for him to control himself. “Fuck it.” He closed the small space between them and had her moving back up against the wall “Touch them” and instead of telling him to stop she obeyed him. Her fingers were on his ears in a instant, gently massaging them; he groaned as his lips began their assault on her neck with fangs nipping along after.
A low growl rumbled in his chest, making it purr along her collarbone while he sucked on the junction between her neck and shoulder. One of her hands slid into his hair, the softness of it tickling against her skin. What felt like frozen time seemed to burst around her, she was breathing heavily and couldn’t remember when he had pinned her hands just above her head. Their eyes were locked and he seemed to be as absolutely undone as she was- What in the world had just happened?
Inuyasha had used every bit of control his human side had to reign in his demon side, and it almost did not work. She had been so willing, so delicious, and here she was OBEYING him. It had made it almost impossible when she bared her neck for him, had made the demonic blood in him boil in a way that it never had for a female. Suddenly it made sense why his demon had let her have his blood, it chose her; all the beast was doing was whispering the word ‘MINE’ over and over. He had managed to take control somehow and that was how he found himself staring down at Kagome’s wide eyes, parted lips, and flushed cheeks. Another growl slipped from his lips and she bit her lip, she was stunning like this. Her shirt was was crooked now and revealed more of her neckline and collarbone at the angle it was at which let show the small mark he had left from sucking on her delicate skin. If he didn’t leave in that moment he was afraid he would not be able to control his inner demon again, “Be careful Kagome,” he licked his lips, his voice holding the grunge of his demon mixing with his normal voice and in that moment he was sure that his eyes held the hints of red tint in them most feared. “Luckily your shirt will hide it.” A small gasp left the woman in his grip when he leaned forward and pressed his lips to the small hickey he had left on her skin.
As quickly as Inuyasha had appeared he was gone. Kagome could feel the sudden burst of cold against her skin where his heat had been, the loss of his body weight and grip of his hands made her stumble forward just slightly and her breath shuddered out. Kagome stared at the empty space where he had been, replaying what had just happened over and over in her brain, the demonic tint of his eyes forever branded in her mind. The coffee was done and apparently Sango had just wanted a quick tango because she could hear the clicks of her heels coming, “Shit.” Kagome spun in place, and with one hand she grabbed two mugs by the handle and the the other she was straightening out her hair, the Gods must have taken pity on the poor priestess because Sango was in such a good mood now that she barely took note of Kagome straightening out her top as she rounded the corner into the small room. “You traumatized my husband.”
“What?” Kagome stopped moving right before she took a sip of coffee.
“His office is amazing and he is dying in it.” Sango smirked before laughing, watching Kagome smile and shake her head.
“Well, maybe he will actually be on time for his life now that I fixed his work universe. He will survive as long as a certain succubus I know doesn’t kill him before work starts.” Kagome was the one smirking now as she watched Sango make two mugs of coffee and saunter away with her I-just-got-laid walk and sway. A quick glance down the hallway let her know Inuyasha’s door was closed so she walked casually to her desk, feeling her heart rate rise when she was near his door and she knew he could hear it if he was in there. She made it to her desk without changing the pace of her steps and started her day by going over the schedule and checking emails. It was shocking just how many emails could arrive over night, but that was how she figured out that half of the firms clients were from all around the world and not just Japan. It made sense, demons lived differently than humans and travel wasn’t as difficult for most of them.
The day flew by, lunch was ordered and she snagged Miroku’s keys from his office while he was on a phone call with the sister firm he had opened two years ago in Paris so Kagome wrote on a post-it that she was going to get lunch. He thanked her silently, pretending to bow at his desk before her. She rolled her eyes at him and left the office, noting that Inuyasha was not in his anymore. She hadn’t seen him since that morning but didn’t have time to think about it since she had to leave to get the food.
Hokudoshi’s was the best in town, the most expensive in Japan, and by far the most famous of demon establishments. They were the only Sushi and Hibachi restaurant that served demonic fish as well as the normal sushi delicacies, half of the order she was picking up was this particular kind of sushi and the knowledge of how much these seven bags of take-out boxes cost almost made her nauseas. Kagome had declined ordering from the menu because one of the meals would cost as much as a single days work at the firm and she couldn’t afford that kind of luxury yet and she would not allow her friends to spend that on her either, luckily she placed the order so no one would know she was going to skip this time.
She only had to wait for a few minutes when she got there and then was actually helped back into her vehicle with three servers carrying six of the bags for her. “Talk about service.” She whispered to herself after the man in the gray suit closed her door, she smiled as she drove away and couldn’t help but feel like she had stuck out like a sore thumb there when everyone was in designer clothes versus her still nice but not name brand clothes, she made note to send Kanna next time since both days she had seen her she was wearing that worlds clothes. She did not want to make the firm look bad by not being up to the standards expected by their staff, those thoughts followed her into the firm as she took note of what every staff member and client was wearing, but after three more trips for the bags she was handing Kagura and Kanna their designated labeled bags and taking her three to their end of the office. Sango and Miroku were together so it was down to the one person she was almost afraid to see, Inuyasha. His food was all she had left to deliver then she could go run the errands for the day that needed to be done for the office and grab a small snack while out, with that in mind as she passed her desk she took the small day planner so she could leave right after seeing the dreamy demon. Her inner mind was being scolded by her rational mind when she looked up from her desk area to see Inuyasha leaning against his door frame staring at her.
She stifled a gasp, making it little more than a hitch in her breath as she stared into the melted amber gems that were his eyes. “Inuyasha.” She was frozen temporarily but managed to make herself move to take him his perfectly tied to go bag. “Your lunch.” She smiled as she handed it to him, but his gaze was heavy and it made her feel small; she felt like willing prey because she didn’t run the other way and her priestess powers didn’t flare up to make him leave either. She stilled every thought and nerve in her body and smiled slightly, “Hope you enjoy. It looked amazing when I saw them wrapping it up.” Casual and calm, she was proud of herself so she made to walk away from him but it was like she had traveled back in time to yesterday because she felt the gentle, yet firm, grip on her wrist stopping her from moving.
“Kagome.” His voice made her want to whimper and she had no damn idea why he affected her, she had to get a hold of herself but with his touch came the memory of his lips and she shivered. “Where is your lunch?” Her eyes closed and she prepared to say she had eaten hers already but that was not what happened, it was like he could smell the lie before she told it. “The truth.” He whispered, narrowing his eyes and her heart stopped.
Not a single person had ever been able to call her on it, sense it, or tell she was bending the truth. “I cannot afford this kind of food, it is extravagant and I refuse to tell my friends this because they will buy it and I wont allow that.” She opened her eyes and looked up at him, not knowing what to expect because his grip tightened on her wrist, but there was still a slight challenge in the depths of silky chocolate staring up at him.
“Why were you going to lie to me?” he was looking at her as if she were a rare bird to be studied and it made her heart race.
“I do not like to concern people with my affairs. I am not poor, I can afford to eat; it is just that Hakudoshi’s would be something I would do for my birthday or New Years… not for lunch on a whim.” Embarrassment would have been flooding her if it wasn’t for the slight tickle of the razor sharp tips of his nails, one of them was currently barely rubbing against her and it was soothing in a dangerous way; one wrong twitch from either of them and that nail could slice her open like a well sharpened chefs knife.
“Privacy is something I can value as well.” She thought he would release her but instead he pulled her without warning into his office and it made her have to move more quickly than she was used to in heels or fall. She squeaked slightly and braced herself against his desk as she stumbled into his office, hearing the door click closed a few blinks later as she turned to right herself.
“Inuyasha! What are you-” she didn’t have time to finish the question because his eyes were flashing between a slight reddish tint and the white she was used to seeing and her mouth went dry while her throat seemed to be thick, like she couldn’t swallow. He wasn’t moving, he was leaning against the closed door casually even though the demonic presence around him seemed the envelope the room and his eyes promised he was more lethal than beautiful in that moment, she was reminded of his brother briefly but somehow it was alluring on Inuyasha instead of terrifying. After the silence seemed to swallow them for a moment he set the food down on his desk as he spoke, his voice was normal even though his presence was far from it and his eyes never left her face.
“I never finish mine. Share it with me, otherwise it is a waste.” He smirked, a fang showing as he watched the moment of protest fall away when he mentioned it would be thrown away if she did not. She could not find a reason to turn down the food offered now and bit her lip, this made him smile a rather devilish grin. All the stories he had been told about how the famous Kagome was fierce and always a step ahead of everyone and here she was, having been outsmarted twice by him so far in less than a day.
“I… fine. But not too much of it.” She tried to have some sort of control and it was adorable to the dog demon that sat down in the chair beside her own. She watched him move from the corner of her eye as she looked down and for the first time she could compare someones movements to Sesshoamru’s, Inuyasha may act differently than other demons but somehow she had not seen that he could be as beautiful as his brother in his presence even though he held a more wild tone about himself. She could not fight the blush down no matter how hard she tried but it was understandable since Kagome had been dragged into a closed office by the man who had lit her body on fire that morning to eat Sushi in private, so it must have been the nerves that made her priestess powers crackle finally because she watched the light purple currents dance between her fingers like static and bit her lip. “Thank you.” She whispered, not daring to look up at him as she sat down.
Inuyasha didn’t comment on her Miko powers flaring up, instead he handed her a set of chopsticks before grabbing his own. “The sauce is the best part, make sure you dip your piece in it or you wont get the whole experience.” He smiled, his eyes having settled on a light shade of pink tinting that let her know his demon was just under the surface. She nodded and ate the sushi rolls that came with the meal, she watched him eat the strips of fish with the sauce he mentioned but made no move to get some herself; it seemed to be his favorite part so she didn’t want to take that part of the meal. The inner demon in him realized what she was doing though and a smirk stole across his lips, the next piece he prepared he held out for her to eat.
She froze, having finished her second sushi roll when this happened. Her eyes met his, there was no room for ‘No’ in them so she reached for the fish with her chopsticks, but he pulled them away. Confusion filled her features and he stretched his arm back out so the chopsticks were slowly moving towards her mouth. That was when Kagome got the he intended to feed her the fish to make sure she tried it since she had been avoiding it with what she thought was successful evasion. Her lip trembled slightly before she let him, leaning forward to take the fish between her red lips. Something about it felt intimate to Kagome, and the way he was looking at her made her wonder if he had meant it to be but the thought slipped away as the bursts of flavor seemed to crackle over her tongue. The demon fish seemed to change flavors as she chewed it and she had to admit that it was worth every penny he had paid for it. “Wow.” She covered her mouth with her fingertips as she glanced at the meal, thoroughly enjoying the way the taste of the fish lingered in her mouth as if she were still chewing it.
Inuyasha watched her lick her lips out of reflex and the edge of a growl slipped, “Wow indeed.” He spoke, clearly not referring to the Sushi. Her eyes locked with his, his ears twitched and swiveled towards the door, and his smirk was gone. She didn’t even have time to question his change because a knock on his door made her jump before Miroku came in.
“Inuyasha, we have to meet- Oh. Kagome! Would you like to join us at the bar? We are meeting a few members from the Paris branch, it would be beneficial if you came. Would put some faces to names that will pop up in the coming months.” He looked to the food and went to snatch a piece but Inuyasha growled at him and slapped his hand away. “So mean! You let her have some!!” Miroku was heartbroken it seemed.
“She was the one who went to get it, plus she had not tried this specific dish yet.” Inuyasha snapped out, effortlessly explaining away the situation which had Kagome relaxing slightly in her chair.
“Rude.” Was mumbled before Miroku was cheery again, “Anyways, you should come. It is paid of course, so why not come enjoy a night out even though it is still a business meeting, after will be fun. Sango was going to try to drag you along anyways since you failed to come out last night.” His tone was playful and accusatory which made her blush. He raised an eyebrow but Inuyasha did not flinch.
“He is right, it is fun. Come with us Kagome.” Inuyasha glanced at the woman in his office, noticing her breath hitch at his casual command but she nodded softly and agreed before excusing herself to go find Sango. Miroku noticed his friends eyes lingering though, and Inuyasha did not deny it once Kagome was gone.
“Careful my friend.” Was all the monk said to him.
“I always am.” Was the reply from the silver eared distracted male.
“No you aren’t.” Miroku left then with Inuyasha scowling at him. The office still smelled like Kagome, he had to get out of it; they all had to leave the office to change into suitable attire for the bar they were going to be meeting in anyway. He did not like the Paris branch, in his opinion they were all stuck up snobs like his brother but it was an annual meeting so he was required to attend; he had left early the previous year, but with Kagome going he had a feeling that he would not leave until she did. He sighed, taking in a full breath of her. His inner demon had been silent for almost six-hundred years when it came to females, and many had tried for his attention, but now this little human miko, of all things, had woken something primal in him and he was having a hard time controlling it the more he was around her.
Kagome had found Sango in her office, which was all windows on one side and bright colors in the room; it suited her friend and fit her office style better than it ever had when it was Miroku’s. “So what do I wear to this place? I imagine when Miroku says ‘Bar’ he really means another place that I do not own clothes for, correct?”
Sango glared at her, “Actually,” it was matter of fact, “you do own ONE dress that would work for it.” Kagome was shaking her head, Sango was nodding- the battle was on. Ten minutes later Kagome was frowning as she sat in her friends car headed to her house to change; Sango had threatened to buy her a new outfit if she did not wear the birthday dress she had gotten her three years ago, Kagome loved the dress but it was so revealing that she was not brave enough to wear it out again- until now.
“You cheated.” Kagome stated, sulking from her side of the car.
“I know.” Sango spoke happily as she ran a red light, tearing a terrified squeal from Kagome in the process as they barely made it through the intersection before the other cars were up to speed.
