The following days went perfectly. Helaku found he was a little sore but hid it as he fulfilled his daily tasks. He ran the troops, conducted several hand to hand combat classes and attended each meeting with his generals, taking in important updates worldwide. He even listened when he checked in with Persia, finally hearing what Sesshomaru had been trying to tell him about.
The next week after the encounter he headed for his meeting with his Emperor. They had barely spoken since then, no smiles, no laughs, no twitches of his mouth into a smirk. He was completely himself, emotionless and hard to read unless you knew how to. It was almost as if it hadn’t happened at all.
He made it to the door 15 minutes early. Jules, one of the royal assistants stood outside the door, his short brown hair slightly tusseled, green eyes darting around. He froze as he saw Helaku approach the door. His face turned cherry red. Helaku looked at him confused. “Afternoon. I have a meeting, he busy? It’s in about 15 minutes.”
“He’ll be free in just a few minutes if you want to come back,” Jules voice was almost a squeak, the man looking more awkward by the second.
“Nah, I’ll wait.” He leaned against the wall, gently chewing at a hangnail for a moment before he played with the hilt of his sword. There was a clatter inside the office and Jules jumped. Helaku immediately moved to open the door, his training telling him he had to protect the Emperor. Jules quickly covered the door.
“Everything is fine. It’s fine.” He nodded.
“Jules, I need to make sure. I’ll make sure he gets mad at me if he’s mad.” Helaku shooed him away. Jules tried desperately to cover the door but Helaku’s strength prevailed. The main office was empty but in the room with his copier Helaku saw him.
A woman laid under him on the counter where his office supplies sat, his shirt untucked, pants just open enough for the task at hand so they wouldn’t get soiled. She held his tie tightly in her hand, using it for leverage as her hips slapped against him. He was efficient, nothing like in the hot spring below his room. The words rang through his head about consorts being a means to an end. There were no kisses, no love bites. She was moaning, loud and dramatic as his hips pounded into her. ‘She’s too soft for him,’ he thought.
Then his eyes locked into Helaku’s stare. Those amber eyes held his gaze, pants of breath coming out between those lips near her ear. Helaku noted his hands gripped her hips tighter, his knuckles practically white. Her top was merely pushed up, her entire body being pushed with each rough thrust making her exposed breasts bounce in time with him. She got louder, his hips coming down rougher as he focused on Helaku. She was going to be bruised.
Those honey eyes still held his, not shameful in the least as he worked his tension out. His eyes squeezed shut suddenly, a look of relief washing over him with a guttural noise. Still no kisses, his chest heaving as his hips worked until he had no more to give. She looked satisfied as her body convulsed with his orgasm, but it was hard to tell if that was just to convince him since that was her job.
She leaned up, still holding his tie tight in her hand. He slid out of her, palming something into the trash can before he cleaned himself and tucked himself back into his slacks, putting himself back together. She whispered sweet nothings to him, trying to touch his chest and shoulders but he moved them away. Praising his performance, telling him how good it felt and how big he was. He gently took his tie from her hands, looking to her dismissively. He was kind enough to hand her a towel, helping her clean up. He saw that a towel under her was soaked and Helaku realized not everything she praised him for was false.
She walked as if her legs were jelly and when she saw Helaku standing there like an idiot, she blushed hard, hustling out of the office altogether. He knew why Jules had been so awkward now.
Sesshomaru came out, still catching his breath but looking more relaxed than Helaku was used to. He tugged at his belt, fixing it before sitting down calmly. “Am I running late for our meeting?”
“I’m early.” Helaku thought he would like the sight of Sesshomaru slamming into one of his palace whores. He was wrong. His emotions swirled in a confusing tornado, making his heart slam painfully against his chest. He was sure his eyes reflected these emotions, gods did he hate that his eyes gave him away so easily.
Sess was eying him strangely, resting his hands on his desk. “Is something the matter?”
“Besides thinking an assassin was in here because something hit the ground and finding you over a consort?” He sat down in his normal chair, his arms folding over his chest. He couldn’t place why he was mad.
Sesshomaru tilted his head, that hardened gaze upon him. “Is something wrong?”
“I’m fine. What do we have to meet about today?” He pulled a small notebook from his pocket this time, updates from Persia written down inside it. He wanted desperately to process his feelings before voicing them. He didn’t know what made him so mad, just that he was. He needed the distraction.
“You’re not fine. Are you going to tell me what’s wrong?” Jules opened the door and Sesshomaru waved his hand to dismiss him very quickly. The man shut the door and hurried off based on his footsteps in the hall.
“In your office?” Helaku motioned towards the copy room.
“Normally I wait until the evening but I’ve been declining visits the past week. I had a rough morning and I just needed it,” It was an excuse, he didn’t have control when he ordered Jules to get one of his consorts. His body had just needed it. He had been serviced often and then suddenly not at all, his body begged him for release and a bad meeting with some extra time between was the perfect excuse.
Helaku was silent, had he been waiting for him? Why didn’t he just invite him? Had he missed all the sly invites over dinner? He was not used to having to decipher secret looks, secrecy would be his downfall.
“Persia’s doing fine. I have the special ops team doing recon where the small rebellious outbreaks have been. It should be taken care of soon. No citizens have been injured and there is no threat of injury at this time.” It’s all Helaku could bring himself to discuss, looking back at his notebook.
“Good, I’m glad Persia is doing fine. How is my Commander?” Sesshomaru pushed the subject.
“The Commander is fine.” Helaku looked at him, still trying to process why he was so angry. His words held a bite to them, making Sess’s expression look frustrated as well.
“Helaku.” Sesshomaru’s eyes shifted to plead with him.
“Why do you not believe me?” Helaku spat the words. ‘This is why he doesn’t believe you’, he thought.
“You look like you’d burn me on a stake if you had the chance to.” Sesshomaru leaned back in his chair.
“Maybe, seeing the man who said he loved you last week making love to a whore isn’t the best start to a meeting.” Helaku huffed. There it was. Love was rearing it’s ugly and yet wonderful head. He saw Sess visibly wince at his words.
Sesshomaru sighed, running a hand through his hair. “You haven’t spoken to me for a week, Helaku. I know the best way to avoid people knowing is to stick to our routine but every chance I’ve given you for any spare time you’ve declined.”
Helaku thought over the week, the extra meeting due to the Persian conflict currently unfolding that he tried to reschedule several times. The seemingly mundane tasks that Sesshomaru had requested him as a detail on. The places he went, he could’ve been on the entourage, travelling in his town car with him. His face burned, he had been too dense to realize them for what they were. Chances to spend time together, chances for privacy.
“I-I didn’t… that’s not fair. Don’t turn this on me.” Helaku’s eyes burned with anger.
“I’m not trying to turn this on you. I was upfront about the consorts, Helaku. I did not keep it secret from you,” Sess wasn’t mad, he was defeated. He didn’t know what to do, he had been trying hard to save his intimacy for Helaku but he had failed.
“That doesn’t mean I wanted to see it.” He focused his eyes on his little notebook yet again. His fingers folded the edges of the paper, he wanted to be anywhere but here.
“You weren’t meant to see it.” Sesshomaru got up, sitting on the edge of his desk in front of Helaku. He wanted to be closer, he wanted to show him he was sorry. He was struggling letting his walls fall down outside the safe walls of his bedroom.
Helaku looked at him again, staring at him with those eyes. They raged like a thunderstorm and Sesshomaru found himself uncomfortable. Helaku’s mind raced and he suddenly felt the need to prove himself. “Pants off.”
Sesshomaru looked at him oddly. “Excuse me?”
“Pants. Take them off.” Helaku stood up, tucking his notepad back into his uniform jacket.
Sesshomaru slid from the edge of his desk, slowly undoing his belt again, confused beyond belief. Helaku reached forward, pulling at them, the button flew off across the office and the zipper was forced down and off its track. Sesshomaru looked at him not sure what to say as his boxers were revealed. Helaku pulled his shirt up, pinning him against the desk.
“Helaku, not here.” Sesshomaru swallowed, not sure how to respond to this. He’d never been with a male that challenged his dominance like this.
“She was good enough for here.” Helaku looked into his eyes, the storm now rolling through his facial expressions as well.
“She is nothing, you deserve better.” Sesshomaru tried to coax him to calm down, but he found his hands were quickly pinned down behind him. He stayed collected but his eyes darted around for the best way to escape this situation.
“Do you honestly feel that way?” Helaku searched his face.
“I want to love you, I can’t love you here,” Sess was honest with him, too many people could interrupt him in his office. Helaku had just interrupted him in fact. It was a private room and yet so many people could come in and out. What if they saw his soft spot for the Commander? What if someone used it against him? What if the wrong person came in and told the world?
“No one can know how you feel about me then?” He quipped, in their current arrangement he was taller, looking down into Sesshomaru’s eyes.
“We agreed no one should know right now. I am not hiding you because I want to, I hide you because that is what both of us wanted,” Sess was becoming impatient, not enjoying not being in control. Helaku could feel his tension growing. He didn’t say anything, he was right that they had agreed. He had been the one requesting that no one see him leaving. His point was lost but now he was mad because he was contradicting himself. He suddenly wasn’t sure of what he wanted. Right now he’d prefer if the man stood on the tallest tower and announced his love for the whole city to hear.
“Join me tonight,” Sesshomaru’s voice broke the uncomfortable stand off.
“I don’t think I can wait, I want it now,” Helaku kept his gaze, still trying to push buttons.
“Don’t be like this, I won’t continue with this,” Sess’s voice was becoming a growl.
Helaku brought his hips close, pressing up against Sesshomaru. He was aroused, it was hard not to be aroused when you saw a rather erotic display even if he was mad about it. Sesshomaru tried to withdraw from him but his body was trapped between Helaku and the desk.
“Helaku,” It was a warning this time. Even his face was a warning. He would defend himself if he must but Helaku could see he didn’t want it to come to that.
“Why?” His voice came out angry again. Hurt.
“I don’t want to look at you like I look at her,” Sess’s gaze was hard now and he backed off of him, “Can you stop being this way and come see me tonight, please? I will show you.”
“Maybe I’ll just go find myself a consort for my own affliction,” he spit the words like venom, tossing his notepad onto the desk before letting go and leaving.
Sess was beside himself, angry at himself for caving to relieve his tension. Angry at himself for hurting the younger man. He picked up the notebook and read the notes it contained to occupy himself, needing to keep his duties before his personal life. When he couldn’t focus, he tried to close his pants. It was impossible, Helaku had ripped the button off and he couldn’t get the zipper to work.
He went to the door, roaring down into the echoing hallway for Jules. The nervous man came running back and he pulled him into his office by his shirt. “I need you to do a few tasks for me.”
Jules nodded, glancing at his pants and then flipping a schedule over on a clipboard. He pulled a pen from his pocket and got ready to take notes. “What can I do for you, Sire?”
“First, I want you to find a gift for Helaku, something very special and deliver it to his home – personally. Second, I need a new pair of slacks, no questions allowed. Third, I need you to get Zander and tell him I need to see him and it is extremely important.” Jules jotted notes down and then looked to Sesshomaru.
“Anything else?” Jules waited patiently as the Emperor thought.
“Helaku’s gift, he loves bourbon. Get him the same bourbon in my bar, and glasses to go with it. He has a knife collection, if you can find something unique, get it. Cost is not important. Something he can collect.” He looked to Jules.
“Of course, Sire. If there is not a knife?” His hand made vigorous notes.
“He’s not overly rom—forget what I started to say. I just want something, extra special. He’s done a good job and I just… need a way to really express how much I appreciate him,”Sess sighed, stress rolling off of him in alarming waves.
“I understand your highness. I will do my best.” Jules hand had paused for only a moment as it clicked on why he was stressing about this. He had been his assistant a long time and the last lover the Emperor had taken was an elven lord a few years back, expertly hidden from all except his assistants that kept all his affairs in order as he snuck around with his love.
Jules left promptly, rushing to fulfill his tasks. Within 15 minutes, Zander knocked and hustled into the office holding a pair of slacks. He gave the pants to his boss and patiently awaited instructions. He was a cat demon, cat ears perched on pitch black hair that brushed his shoulders. His tail twitched behind him and wide, green eyes were innocent and playful. “Your highness!”
“Zander, you’re my personal servant. I need some more discretion from you,” he took his new slacks and set them down.
“Of course, is it about Mr. Foxx?” Zander smiled, happy to serve.
“It is. He’s angry with me. I need something… special,” Sess observed him, trying to brainstorm out what to do.
“How about a special dinner? We could say you have a conference call and must miss dinner. I can set it up in your personal garden,” Zander smiled, tail twitching delightedly. He loved helping plan his Emperor’s dates.
“That is perfect! Sneak him in from the back?” Zander nodded giddily at the suggestion.
“I’ll tell him I require his assistance with a task since he is angry. He is more likely to come if you are not involved,” Zander was a little quieter with this idea.
“You’re not wrong. He is… very mad,” Sesshomaru looked down at his pants. Zander blushed wildly at the exposed boxers behind the broken zipper and button. It was not something he had ever seen and was unsure on how to process the sight.
“I can fix those for you, I can wait for them if you would like to change,” Zander’s fingers fidgeted as he offered the only solution he could think of.
“Thank you. There is nothing in this world I could give that would express my gratitude for your friendship and discretion,” Sess gave an appreciative nod and took his new pants, going to the copy room. He changed quickly and brought out the broken slacks giving them to Zander.
Zander took the slacks and looked them over, thinking on what could have happened to break his pants in this manner. The implications only made him blush and he cleared his throat, smiling and leaving the office. Sesshomaru sat at his desk, holding his head in his hands for a long moment, he shouldn’t have tried a relationship.
