IN THE CLASSROOM (Part 3)
~~~~~~Friday Evening~~~~~~
Once they hit the highway to head to Augusta, Rin smiled in relief, feeling like she was finally doing something a girl her age was supposed to do. The highway lamps along the road swooped over his car as he picked up speed, and Rin watched the light glide across the smooth skin on his face. Sesshoumaru turned to look at her, and Rin shyly averted her eyes, embarrassed that he caught her looking at him.
"Still nervous around me, Rin?" Sesshoumaru said, barely containing his smirk. He reached across the armrest and took her hand, holding it tightly. I feel like I'll always be nervous around you, Sesshoumaru. Rin curled her fingers around his palm, letting him know that she appreciated his affections.
"Where did you live before you came to Loyola?" Rin asked, watching his face again as he drove. His eyes checked the rear view mirror and then the side mirror, and he changed lanes as he answered,
"I lived in Boston, actually. I was working as a public teacher, and it's no secret that a public teacher anywhere is not paid very well. My father had Alzheimer's, but his medical insurance couldn't cover most of his expenses. After his social security ran out, I started paying his bills even though my mom didn't want me to pay, and I got way over my head," he lightly laughed out. Rin heard his voice change a bit. It became a little lower and rougher. "When he died a few months ago, his life insurance policy covered what debts he had left behind, but I still had a lot of credit to pay off. So I started looking for a better job, and here I am."
"I'm sorry about your father, Sesshoumaru," Rin whispered, watching his face intently. His bangs looked soft and springy, and Rin wanted to touch them, but his eyes, which shined underneath the highway lamps, made Rin want to comfort him. So she set her elbow on the armrest, still holding his hand, and laid her head on his shoulder.
"It's okay. He died peacefully. I think he was ready to go, anyway...But after I found this job, I finished off the school year and moved into the Hickory house last month. It's a work in progress over there. I don't think I'll ever get the attic clean," he joked, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles. Rin smiled, biting down lightly on her lower lip as she contemplated another question.
"Have you..." Rin found herself unable to finish her question. Is it really any of my business? I haven't known him that long.
"Have I what?" Sesshoumaru prodded, switching lanes again. The sign for Augusta indicated ten more miles. Rin was glad that the car was poorly lit because her cheeks flared up.
"Have you had other girlfriends?" Rin asked, not sure how he would take the question. Although Rin considered them to be a couple, however secret their relationship was, she wasn't certain as to how serious he thought they were. I'm probably overanalyzing this.
"Yeah. One was in high school, but she went to a different college, and we just drifted apart. She was a real jock. She loved tennis a lot, and was also on the soccer team, but she liked tennis more. I've always had a strange fetish for track girls, though," Sesshoumaru said, smiling through his joke. That probably got her blushing. "I had two in college. One lasted maybe ten minutes, but the other was a much longer relationship. She was a pre-med, meaning we didn't have a lot of time for each other, but she always made me feel like I was her first priority when we did spend time together. She wanted to finish off her degree at Duke, and I wanted to stay in Massachusetts, so that was the point of friction. The break-up was...pretty messy, but we resolved it, at least...How about you? Had any boyfriends?" he asked, nudging her a little. He had actually been dying to ask, wanting to know if another man had been the first to kiss those soft lips of hers. Rin thought to herself briefly that from the time he graduated college until now, he must have had a girlfriend in there somewhere—he's not telling me something.
"No, none at all. I kept telling myself that I was better off without one. Then I could leave Loyola for college and not look back. I think I was kidding myself, though..." Rin said, trailing off. Sesshoumaru didn't quite understand what she was getting at, though. Kidding herself?
"How so?" he asked, passing by a slow-moving car that most likely had an old man driving it. The exit for Augusta was coming up after the next two miles.
"Well...you know that feeling in your chest when you wake up in the morning, and you wish you could sleep for three more hours? That...empty, itchy feeling, like you can't quite breathe correctly?" Rin said, watching Sesshoumaru pass by another car before getting into the right lane to catch the exit. Sesshoumaru was starting to see what she was talking about.
"Yeah...it's not a pleasant feeling."
"Whenever I sat by myself and thought about it—about not having someone unlike other girls—I found that my chest hurt the way it does when you wake up too early. That feeling seems to catch me more and more often...I always told myself that I wouldn't regret staying to myself, but now I think that I might have been wrong." Rin didn't exactly want to keep going, feeling like she was being over-dramatic. "So what movie are we seeing?" Please don't prod any further...at least, not tonight.
Sesshoumaru decided to leave the topic change alone and told her they were seeing a comedy. He listed off some actors in it, some of which Rin recognized. Slowing down, Sesshoumaru exited the highway on a cloverleaf ramp system, which pushed Rin's body a little closer to his. She smells really good. The theater was a few miles from the exit, but they found it easily enough. Lots of cars were packed into the theater's parking lot, and Sesshoumaru held Rin's hand as they walked to the theater doors. Rin blushed the whole way, feeling the strong late-summer breeze play with her skirt as they went.
Rin didn't want to let Sesshoumaru pay for her ticket, but he did anyway, which got the old lady working the ticket stand laughing pretty hard. Rin got revenge by paying for the popcorn and drinks while he visited the restroom. Clark Theaters only had four theaters to it, which was small compared to the theaters in larger towns, but they all had cushy seats and cup holders, so the town was happy enough with that. They were a little late getting inside and the lights had already gone down by the time they entered the theater, but they found a seat right in the middle.
Sesshoumaru loved the way Rin laughed. He hadn't seen her smile that much, and hearing her laugh was enough to make his heart pound. He had a difficult time concentrating on the movie since the girl next to him looked so beautiful. The light reflecting off of the screen made her skin look a little pale—though one scene filmed at sunset put a golden glow to her perfect shoulders—and Sesshoumaru couldn't follow the movie because he was enjoying watching Rin too much. If he ever laughed, it was because Rin was laughing.
At one point, she laughed so hard that tears were coming out of her eyes, and she was holding her stomach. Sesshoumaru then realized that her ribs might still be hurting. Laughing certainly wasn't the best medicine for bruised ribs. He leaned over to her, watching her smile and wipe away the wetness on her cheeks, and inquired about her injury. Rin turned to him, directing that brilliant smile at him.
"I'm just laughing so hard that my sides hurt...that's all. My ribs feel fine," she whispered, rubbing the back of his hand. Rin loved this movie. It had been almost eight months since she had last seen a movie, or even a preview for one since she rarely watched television. She did notice that Sesshoumaru was watching her the whole time, but the movie was too funny for her to be self-conscious about it. Dumping their drinks and half-eaten popcorn in the trash bin after the movie, Rin still giggled once in a while after they left.
"I'm going to stop by the restroom really quick," Rin said, pointing in the general direction of the ladies' room. Sesshoumaru nodded, pulling out his car keys. Inside the restroom, Rin did her business and was washing her hands when she looked into the mirror. She had covered up the last remains of her bruises before she left the house, but it was fading away since she had cried all over her make-up. It hadn't shown up in the softer lights of the theater lobby, but it certainly showed under the harsher bathroom lights. Drying her hands, Rin patted on some more make-up, feeling reminded of the home she now had to go back to.
Re-entering the theater lobby, Rin looked around but couldn't see Sesshoumaru. Looking towards the doors of the theater, made of paned glass, she saw his car pull up, and made her way outside. Waving at him shyly, she opened her door and slipped into the car. His clock read 8:53, meaning they had plenty of time to get home before her father would. Sesshoumaru put the car into gear and pulled away. As Rin fastened her seatbelt, she did not realize that someone also leaving the theater recognized her...and the man in the driver's seat.
"Did you want to listen to the radio?" Sesshoumaru asked as they picked up speed on the highway. Rin just wanted to watch his face underneath the highway lamps again, but she nodded, and watched him tune into a radio station. "So do you have any brothers or sisters? I haven't heard you mention any."
"Uhm, no...I'm an only child. When my parents had me, my father was still a small-time lawyer so they waited a little while. He got so much money because he represented a class action lawsuit against a power company, and then won. After that, though, my mom started getting sick, so more kids weren't possible. What about you? Any siblings?" Rin asked, trying to imagine Sesshoumaru as a teenager. He must have been so cute...as an adult, he's just plain gorgeous.
"No siblings, either. My mother still lives in Boston, so I usually call her at least once a week. She's a nurse at St. Clare's, but she'll hopefully be retiring soon." Sesshoumaru changed lanes, passing by another car with an old man driving it. Rin leaned into him again, setting her head on his shoulder and placing her hand on his arm.
"What did your father do for a living?" Rin asked, not feeling sleepy in the slightest since Sesshoumaru's nearness was keeping her adrenalin up. His body is warm.
"He was a teacher, too. He could have taught college level, but he liked the younger crowd more. He taught seventh-graders for thirty-five years in the same classroom."
"Wow, he must have been a very patient man," Rin said, only vaguely remembering her year as a seventh-grader—all she really remembered was how loud the other kids were.
"Yeah, he was a really great guy. Mom made much more than him, which is why we were able to afford to send me to college, and it's why his medical insurance was so shoddy. Mom's healthcare provider wouldn't let her put him on her plan since it was ‘individual' only, but dad never said he minded. He really was a patient man," Sesshoumaru nodded, seeing the sign for Loyola that indicated ten miles to go. Rin inhaled the scent of his cologne, and felt her heart beat even faster. You're just like your father, Sesshoumaru.
"My mom was just a housewife. That's why we hired Miss Yaki after she passed away."
"Yeah, you've mentioned her. How long have you known her?"
"We hired her a couple of weeks after mom's funeral. She's not a live-in housekeeper, so she comes at seven and leaves at five, cleaning and cooking. On Saturdays, she sometimes takes me to the mall, but we haven't been there for a while. And she makes pancakes on Sundays. I don't think my life would be quite as nice if we didn't have her," Rin said, feeling his pulse underneath her hand.
"Does she know about your father?" Sesshoumaru asked incredulously, hearing how much Miss Yaki really visited their home. This woman didn't do anything?! Rin flinched, upset that the mood had changed so drastically.
"I didn't tell her, so I think she only suspected for quite a while. And she couldn't get me alone for too long, either. She was scared that father would overhear us. When father was late getting home a couple of months ago, she asked me if what she thought was happening was really—...well, I told her not to worry about it. I wanted to take care of it myself, and I was just waiting for the right timing. After that, she didn't ask about it anymore, but she notices it every time now." Rin didn't want Sesshoumaru to be mad at Miss Yaki. It was an awkward position for the woman to be in, and not many would know what to do. I can tell it upsets her.
"You're too nice of a person, Rin," Sesshoumaru said, his voice softening. Loyola was two miles up, and Sesshoumaru realized that he was breathing faster.
"‘Nice' is a kind way of putting it," Rin said quietly. Rin looked a little off to the right as they passed by another car, in which a couple of girls were singing along to the music. The sight they made was a little funny, but Rin couldn't bring herself to laugh anymore tonight.
"Are you hungry at all? Or do you just want to head home?" he asked, getting into the right lane in front of the singing girls. He turned his head slightly, which brought his lips close to her forehead.
"The popcorn was enough. We can just drive to my house," Rin said, feeling nervous as her mind started grinding out many possibilities as to how the night would end. When they exited the highway, Rin brought her head off of Sesshoumaru's shoulder, missing the feel of his muscles underneath her hand as he brought up both arms to control the steering wheel. As they neared her house, Rin told Sesshoumaru to park underneath a large oak tree sitting on the far left side of the circle-drive. It practically blocked the moonlight, which was already hidden behind clouds, so the only light inside the car came from his digital clock and the dim light over the garage, which sat on the far right side of the circle-drive. The side door to the garage was a little ajar, meaning her father wasn't home yet because he always closed that door after he parked his car.
Sesshoumaru put the car into park and shut off the engine. Rin could hear his breathing from where she sat. The car clock's light had gone out, so she could only see his faint outline as he turned to look at her.
"Take off your seatbelt," he said, his voice low and husky as he slowly removed his own seatbelt. Rin's body reacted to the note in his voice, and her heartbeat and breathing increased in tempo. She reached down with her left hand and pushed the button on the clip, whipping the seatbelt back away from her. It sounded loud inside the car since all Rin could hear was their breathing and the crickets outside. She saw Sesshoumaru lean forward with both arms out, and he pulled her over the armrest, settling her in his lap with her back to the door. Rin felt more comfortable with her arm around his shoulders, and the scent of his cologne got much stronger. She felt his left arm wrap around her waist and his right hand held her jaw. Rin could see his eyes reflected in the shallow light cast from the garage more than fifty feet away.
"Sesshoumaru?" Rin whispered, adjusting her legs a bit since the armrest was poking into the backs of her knees. Sesshoumaru was surprised at how light she was. He thought she would be heavier, but now he felt like he might break her. He wanted so badly to protect her, to be with her, to love her... Her body felt good in his arms—sitting on his lap. The pressure that her right thigh was putting on his groin was certainly causing a reaction. Holding her jaw in his hand, Sesshoumaru heard her say his name in uncertainty, and pulled her face towards him. He slid his tongue along her bottom lip, and felt her hair brushing along his arm as he leaned her towards him. Rin closed her eyes and pushed out her tongue to touch the tip of his. It was all the encouragement he needed, and Sesshoumaru opened his mouth, pressing Rin's lips over his and letting her tongue play with his own.
Rin felt his hand brush her hair off of her shoulder and then tenderly pull the strap of her shirt down her arm, bringing the cloth away from her breast. The hand then glided down to her wrist, raising a few goose bumps. His other hand, which had before been innocently sitting on her stomach, came up and held her breast, lightly pinching the peak between two fingers. Rin gasped into his mouth and slid her fingers through his hair, soft and springy, like she thought it would be. Sesshoumaru deepened the kiss, pushing his mouth harder against her lips. Rin... Sesshoumaru's right hand landed on her left knee, sliding down along the inside of her thigh until he found the cloth of her panties.
He resumed the motion he had been using earlier that day, brushing his fingers over her, and excited by the fact that she was warm and already damp. His other hand was still holding her breast, lightly brushing his fingers over the tip. Rin opened her knees a bit, wanting him to rub harder. Sesshoumaru got the subtle hint and pressed his fingers against her, now panting for breath whenever he wasn't kissing her. Moving his hand in a circular motion, Sesshoumaru soon felt Rin's stomach muscles twitching. Rin was gripping the steering wheel, turning her knuckles white. When Sesshoumaru moved his hand away from her, Rin groaned in disappointment against his mouth.
"Help me take them off," Sesshoumaru panted in between kisses, tugging gently on the waist of her panties. Rin thought to herself that she should be embarrassed, but her body wanted something—needed something...so she couldn't stop now. Lifting herself a little with her feet on the passenger-side seat and her hand on the steering wheel, Rin felt him pull her panties down until they were at her knees. She sat down again, bringing her knees towards her so that he could slide her panties off. Sesshoumaru let her underwear fall from his fingers, and Rin set her feet down again, vaguely hoping that he didn't mind that she put her shoes on his seat.
His hand returned to her knees and pushed them apart until her left knee touched the dashboard. Rin's cheeks felt hot with nervous anxiety at the new experiences she was having, and her heart beat warmly and heavily. Sesshoumaru... This time he slid his hand along the inside of her right thigh, and cupped her without hesitation, slipping his longest finger between her lips. Rin gasped softly in reaction, no longer able to breathe and kiss him at the same time. She could only set her temple against his forehead and feel his hand between her thighs.
"God, Rin...you're...very wet," Sesshoumaru gasped, feeling constrained inside his pants. Rin moved restlessly as he brushed his finger over something very, very sensitive. It made her thighs shake when he touched that button of nerves, and Rin fisted her hand in his hair, unable to control the noises she made. Sesshoumaru couldn't help himself and slid his finger into her body, pressing it deep. She's...really tight. Rin made a high-pitched, cut-off groan, clenching the steering wheel and moving against his hand. He pumped his finger in and out, pressing an open-mouthed kiss to her neck. Then returning to the wet jewel above his finger, Sesshoumaru rubbed over it in circles, varying his speed.
"Don't stop..." Rin whispered harshly, her fingers flexing over his scalp.
"I won't," Sesshoumaru answered, loving how Rin responded to him. Her moans, the way she gripped the steering wheel and fisted her hand in his hair, her body's restless movements, and the way she felt...She's beautiful.
"Don't stop..." she sighed again, bucking into his hand. Just like that, Rin... Sesshoumaru wanted to give her this—it was too soon for them to go all the way, but he had to at least give her this. "Sesshoumaru...ohh..."
"Just let it happen." He moved his fingers faster, listening to her loud breathing. Rin was feeling very good...though whatever his fingers were doing made her ache for a release, it felt good. Pushing her hips against his hand seemed to make the ache stronger. Sesshoumaru brought two more fingers into play, spreading her open while his longest finger continued to roll the pearl hidden underneath her skin. Rin moaned loudly, feeling a tingly sensation moving slowly down from her head to her abdomen.
"Don't stop! ...Don't stop! Unnhhh!" Rin cried out, feeling the tingly sensation reach her deepest muscles and spill out of her, pushing and massaging as it passed. Rin had been stiff when her climax was almost upon her, but now she felt lazy and relaxed. Muscles that Rin didn't know existed were pulsating lightly and quickly, but it was gradually slowing down.
"Rin...that was amazing," Sesshoumaru sighed, holding her close but willing himself to calm down. He blindly reached for the box of tissues in his back seat, pulling out two and cleaning the both of them up. Rin opened her eyes, certain that the world around her had changed. Her heart was still beating fast, and Sesshoumaru was breathing hard against her neck. She felt warm and heavy, like she could fall asleep right there, but Rin blinked a few times, clearing her head. It was then that she realized that he was still hard underneath her.
"Sesshoumaru...you didn't...uhh...you're—you're still...hard," Rin stuttered, feeling self-conscious after the display she had just put on. Sesshoumaru nodded against her throat, very much in need but trying to calm himself down. "Do—do you need me to—" Rin was about to ask, but Sesshoumaru cut her off.
"No, it's okay. I didn't think we should go that far tonight." Rin thought his voice sounded a little too strained, but she let him have his way. She put her shirt back in place and slid off of his lap, sitting once again in the passenger seat before pulling her underwear back on. They sat there for a moment, catching their breath, and Rin turned to Sesshoumaru, who had his eyes closed.
"Thank you, Sesshoumaru. It was a very nice date," Rin whispered, suddenly regretting her choice of words and blushing brightly. Very nice date?! "I mean...the movie was very nice, but what just happened...was..." Rin couldn't find a word to describe it. She knew what she had experienced, but it was her first time, and Sesshoumaru was the one to give it to her, so Rin had an impossible time finishing her sentence.
"You're welcome, Rin. I enjoyed giving that to you...as evidenced by how my body reacted," he joked, still sounding strained. It's not going down. Sesshoumaru could see what he would be doing as soon as he got home.
"Are you sure?" Rin asked softly, looking at his eyes but barely seeing them. He doesn't sound like he enjoyed himself. "We have time, and...I don't mind...y—you might have to give me a few pointers, though," Rin laughed out, leaning towards him. Sesshoumaru looked over at her, seeing the faint contours of her face. He was sorely tempted to let her. Well...she said she doesn't mind...
"All right...uhm, concentrate on the tip, I guess," he explained, unbuckling his belt. Rin felt her face blush brightly, but was glad to be able to do this for him. She leaned over towards him, braced her left forearm on the armrest, and hovered over his lap, watching his hands as he released himself from the confines of his slacks. Once she saw the faint dark outline of his arousal, from that close, Rin felt like all the blood in her body was in her cheeks. She heard him sigh since there wasn't as much pressure on his member now, and scoot a little further over him. Rin decided to start out slow to get herself used to the idea and leaned down, kissing the tip. Then bringing her hand off of his thigh, she held the base, surprised at how hard he was.
Sesshoumaru found it hard to focus his eyes. It didn't really matter since he couldn't see much anyway. When he felt her tongue rubbing the exact right spot, Sesshoumaru gripped the seat, groaning and sliding his other hand to the back of her head. Rin was trying to think of what he might like, and swirled her tongue around the tip. She was proud to hear that he was enjoying it, judging by the sounds he was making. Then trying what she had picked up so far in her short life, she bobbed her head down his length, gently cupping him below the base and squeezing just a little.
"Uhhh...it's—it's good," Sesshoumaru choked out, letting his hand ride the back of her head and vaguely marveling at how soft her hair was. Jesus...how can she do this so well? Rin felt encouraged by his aroused words and moved her head faster—it was all Sesshoumaru could do to keep himself from bucking up into her mouth. Letting his head lay back on the headrest, he let his mind only concentrate on his senses—the sound of the crickets, his own heavy breathing, and the softer sounds that Rin's mouth made...the increased temperature inside the car, the faint trace of Rin's perfume and the scent of her body...the way her mouth felt over him. Sesshoumaru was now gasping for breath, feeling the wonderful heat of orgasm rising inside his body.
Rin could hear his guttural groans and felt his thigh muscles tense up. Ready for what she knew would happen, Rin pushed him inside her mouth again, rubbing the flat of her tongue over the tip. His hand tightened in her hair and she felt something very warm spill inside her mouth. It was very salty, but Rin swallowed it quickly, avoiding most of the aftertaste. It kept coming, though, and Rin swallowed as fast as she could, listening to Sesshoumaru's agonized gasps. The sounds he made when he climaxed sounded so male that Rin realized she liked hearing them, and wanted to elicit those sounds more often.
"Th—...thanks," Sesshoumaru mumbled, starting to catch his breath again. It's never felt that good with anyone else...and we haven't even made love yet. Rin lifted her head, sitting back a bit, and reached behind his seat to find the box of tissues he had stashed back there. After a little fumbling, Rin managed to pull one out and wiped her lips. He lazily tucked himself back in, eyes still closed. She pushed the ‘on' button for the radio, which flashed the clock's time: 10:06. Father will be home soon... She looked back at the garage again, paranoid, but the side door was the same as when she last saw it.
"You need to go inside now...don't you?" Sesshoumaru said with a sigh, sounding a little sad and disappointed. Rin turned back around, nodding.
"Yeah. I should be in bed before he comes home. If—if you want, though, father goes to work on Saturdays around noon for a few hours, so you can call me tomorrow without my dad picking up." Sesshoumaru pulled a pen out of the glove compartment and gave it to Rin, then held out his hand. Rin half-smiled, biting lightly on her lower lip. I love that smile, too. It tickled a little when she wrote the number, writing a little blindly since there was so little light. Rin found her little wallet on the floor of the passenger side and put her hand on the door handle, but Sesshoumaru smacked a quick kiss on her cheek before she got out of the car.
"Goodnight," Rin whispered, setting her hand on the corner of the door and looking inside for a few seconds.
"You, too, Rin...have a good night's sleep, okay?" Sesshoumaru said back, putting his hand on the ignition. A thought popped into Rin's head, but she didn't dare say it out loud. She only nodded, and then shut the door, walking quickly to her front door. I'll have a good night's sleep now that you've worn me out. She heard him start his car once she had the front door open, and waved as he pulled away, shutting the door behind her. Rin then tiredly trudged up the stairs and took a quick shower, still feeling phantom touches from where he had manipulated her body. Changing into her pajamas after brushing her teeth, she blow-dried her hair, thinking of what she and Sesshoumaru had done to each other in his car and blushing, both from the memory and the heat of the blow-drier. It was around eleven when she turned off the light and pulled her covers up, burrowing underneath the blankets.~~~~~~Saturday, 3 a.m.~~~~~~
Rin jerked awake when she heard glass breaking, and glanced at the clock. Father is home. Not sure how long he had been there, Rin wasn't sure if she wanted to make sure he was okay because it may have just been an accident. I'll just take a peek. Rin sneaked out of bed, stepping over spots that she knew creaked. Opening her bedroom door, she saw the light on downstairs. Rin hesitated for a few seconds, but ventured downstairs, walking on the balls of her feet to keep quiet. Looking into the den, her father was brooding over the fireplace. There was no fire going, but he was looking down at the hearth as if there were. She could see glass shards inside. Rin noticed how her father had aged this past year. She remembered him to have broad shoulders, a full head of brown hair, and a trim waistline, but now his shoulders sagged a bit too low, his hair was graying rapidly, and his drinking was putting weight around his midsection.
"Father?" Rin quietly said, wanting to see if he was okay. She saw his shoulders tense up and he turned his head a little in her direction. Rin wanted to hide behind the doorframe. Why didn't I just go back to bed?!
"I lost the case, honey. Mrs. Ex-McKenzey took the mister for everything he had...dumped the children on him, which he now has no money to support," her father said, his voice a little slurred and depressed. Rin walked a little further into the room, seeing that his temper was all right for the moment. "My boss was all nice about it, too...that bastard," he whispered, staring at the shards of his brandy glass. "He said, ‘We all lose some, sport-o...just keep your ass in the saddle, right?' I knew what he was really thinking." Rin didn't want to see her father putting himself down. She walked up behind him, and raised her hand to put it on his shoulder.
"But...it's the only one you've lost in twelve years. It's a great record, isn't it?" Rin asked, setting her hand on his arm. She wasn't prepared when he whipped his elbow around, landing it right on the side of her mouth. She stumbled back, almost saving herself, but then fell to the floor. Her mouth felt half-numb, half-tingly and she knew she was lucky that she didn't lose any teeth, but her lip was bleeding from the inside and from the outside, dripping onto the shirt of her pajamas.
"Don't you get it, you stupid girl?! I'm losing my touch! Ever since your mother died, I've been slipping and now I've lost a case!" Her father approached her, and Rin cowered at his feet, curling herself into a ball away from him and covering her head. "It's all your fault!" he yelled, ramming his shoe into her back. Rin cried out, feeling like her world was crashing down upon her. With each angrily screamed sentence, he landed another hard kick in her back. "You remind me every day of what I lost! I can't move on because of you!! I've become a failure because of you! I hate you! I hate you!"
Rin wasn't sure how many times he kicked her, though she later guessed that it was around a dozen. She woke up a little after dawn the next day, still in the same spot on the floor, and immediately noticed the pounding headache. After she passed out, he had kicked the back of her head once, and then her shoulder, but her back received the most abuse. At least he didn't break anything. It took about five minutes, but Rin managed to sit up, and get to her feet. She walked carefully and slowly to the living room, and found her father passed out on the couch, having consumed a lot of brandy. She stood there a moment, watching him snore, barely able to feel her back, needing four aspirin, and sporting a split lip that had bled all over her chin and dried there. How could you?
Rin then went upstairs, taking them one at a time and gripping the railing with every stab of pain that shot up her spine. Cleaning up her face as best as she could, she popped a few painkillers into her mouth and washed them down, then applied some medicine, the bottle of which was half-empty, to her lip. She didn't want to think about the look that would be on Sesshoumaru's face when he saw her again, or what he would say, but she was mostly anxious about what he would do. Brushing her hair, which hurt a little since her head had a new bump in the back, she went back to her room, needing a bit more sleep. The ache was back inside her chest, the one that always found her when she was alone, needy, and vulnerable. Lying on her stomach since it was the only position she could lie in, Rin looked at the clock next to her bed: 6:58 a.m. She heard Miss Yaki open the front door, and dreaded the look that Miss Yaki would give her. I never should have gone downstairs.
~~~~~~Saturday, Noon~~~~~~
Rin shifted, groaning as she realized that her arm was asleep. Wondering what woke her up, Rin attempted to roll onto her back, barely stifling a yelp when it put pressure on her sore back. That's what woke me up. She came to her hands and knees, and got out of bed backwards, standing up slowly. Looking down at her light blue pajamas, Rin saw the large blood stain on the collar, and went searching for a shirt to change into. Finding a yellow shirt with a keyhole collar and three-quarter length sleeves, Rin unbuttoned her pajama top, dropping it onto her bed. Rin wasn't sure if she could stand wearing a bra that day, but she walked to her top dresser drawer and reached up to open it. Seeing a large purple spot on the back of her hand, Rin realized that she must have still been trying to protect her head when he kicked her.
Pulling out one of her older bras, Rin found that she couldn't even put the bra on without a lot of discomfort. Tossing it back into the drawer, she painstakingly pulled on the yellow shirt, feeling a little naked without her bra. Then putting on a pair of jeans, Rin stuffed her pajamas into the hamper and walked to the bathroom to survey the damage. Her lip didn't look too bad—swollen but not nearly as much as when she woke up at seven—and her bruises from Monday night were another day from being gone. Applying more medicine, Rin tried to cover up the rest with make-up as best as she could.
Walking downstairs, hoping to get something to drink without Miss Yaki seeing her, Rin was creeping towards the kitchen when Miss Yaki appeared in the hallway, leaving the den. She looked greatly upset, and walked quickly to Rin, looking over her as if she might have a new limb somewhere.
"I found blood on the carpet! Are you okay?" she asked, placing her hands on Rin's shoulders. Rin grimaced as she touched the fresh bruise on Rin's left shoulder and backed away from the housekeeper. Miss Yaki pulled her hands back as if she had burned them.
"No, but...hopefully this is the last time. Father is supposed to be taking a break now that the McKenzey case is over. Is he already at work?" Rin asked, walking towards the kitchen. Miss Yaki looked shocked. She acts as if being beaten weren't as serious as it is. She's...becoming used to it. Rin turned to Miss Yaki when she didn't answer.
"Is he already at work?" Rin asked again. Miss Yaki seemed to snap out of whatever trance she was in.
"Well, I got him into bed when I got here this morning. He threw up a little, but nothing much. Then he got up all by himself about an hour ago—he showered, shaved, dressed, and left...I was certainly surprised that his hangover didn't keep him at home. I'm guessing now that he didn't want to look at what he did last night." Miss Yaki looked at Rin pointedly, saying without words that she didn't want this to be happening to her. Rin nodded, swallowing around the lump in her throat, and walked to the kitchen. Pouring herself a glass of orange juice, Rin unconsciously picked up the glass with her bruised hand, and immediately noticed how badly her hand was shaking. She changed hands, seeing that she wouldn't be able to use her left one that day.
Back in her room, Rin was at her desk, working on her homework, when the phone rang. She grabbed for the phone, hoping Miss Yaki didn't pick up the line.
"I've got it, Miss Yaki!" she yelled out her open bedroom door. She could hear Sesshoumaru chuckling a little bit on the other end. Setting her pencil down, Rin pressed her ear to the receiver.
"Good afternoon, Rin...did you sleep well?" he asked with a little playfulness in his voice. Rin twirled the phone cord around her pinkie, loving how he flirted with her—but his question and the mild pains in her back not squelched by four aspirin were enough reminder of what had happened at 3 a.m. last night. She took a deep breath.
"Well..." she began, not wanting to hear his reaction. Lowering her voice for some reason, as if her father were standing right behind her, Rin continued, "Well...it happened again." There was no need to say was ‘it' was.
Sesshoumaru had been up since nine, trying to grade the assignments turned into him on Friday, but he was constantly distracted by phantom sounds of a girl whispering ‘don't stop.' When he called her, his only concern was that she wasn't up yet since most people around her age liked to sleep in pretty late. He could tell that she snatched the phone up by the muffled sounds and the way she yelled for Miss Yaki not to pick up the phone. It made him kind of happy, to tell the truth, that Rin had been waiting for his call. He tried to flirt a little to get her smiling, but the news she whispered to him made him want to put his fist through a wall. That bastard!
"Are you okay, Rin?" he asked, trying to discern the note in her voice. Rin could hear that he was half-angry, half-concerned, and definitely not playing anymore.
"I'm all right, I suppose. Nothing that won't heal," she assured him, looking at the bruise on the back of her hand. Sesshoumaru knew what her voice sounded like now...she was resigned, as if this were becoming routine. It probably is routine for her.
"...You know I can't let this go now," he said, leaning his forehead against the cool wall to get himself calmed down. He could practically see the worry on Rin's face after a long pause.
"Can't you wait another week, please?" Rin softly whispered, practically begging him. "His last day of work is today so maybe after he gets some time off, I can ask him to see a therapist or something...please..." She couldn't let her father get in trouble. He hurt her...a lot, but Rin knew more than anyone else that her mother's death had totally destroyed the father that she knew when she was younger.
"Your father is beating you around, and you expect me to turn a blind eye to it?" he asked, sounding incredibly worried. Rin could feel tears starting to form. His wish to confront her father wasn't the cause of her tears—she was happy that he was so concerned about her. It was comforting to hear the protectiveness in his voice. She heard a slight thud and a sigh. Sesshoumaru, on his side, thumped his forehead against the wall, trying to find a way to convince her, and not coming up with anything. Sighing in resignation, he asked, "So what are you doing today?"
"Thank you, Sesshoumaru," Rin said, knowing what the topic change meant.
"I have the feeling I'll regret this," he sighed, only half-joking. Rin smiled softly on her end, staring at her math homework without seeing it.
"I'll be done with my homework in about an hour. I might have gone to the mall, but I can't now," Rin said, trying to avoid that one touchy subject but finding it hard to do.
"Why's that?" he asked, and Rin heard him close a cupboard or something. You just had to ask...
"I...have a split lip, and I—it was too...uncomfortable to wear...a...a bra," she whispered, feeling her cheeks blush again. "So I don't have one on and I'd feel naked if I went to the mall without it." Sesshoumaru paused, not knowing whether to feel angry about the positive indicators of how she had been beaten or to feel turned on by the fact that she had just told him she wasn't wearing a bra.
"I've seen girls going without one before," he commented, deciding to steer clear of the other subject. "Some looked pretty decent." And I'm sure those young breasts of yours would look great with only a tight shirt. Sesshoumaru felt a twitch between his legs, wondering why he was getting so worked up already.
"Well, I suppose so...this shirt is tight enough so that...well, I don't...uhm...you know, bounce everywhere. I'll feel kind of weird doing it, though. I think I should just stay home." Rin knew she was blushing, having this kind of conversation with him, but she actually really liked it. It's kind of...intimate. Sesshoumaru twitched again, hearing that her shirt was indeed tight.
"What color is it?" he asked, suddenly needing to know that little detail. Rin paused, probably confused for a couple of seconds.
"Oh, uhm...a canary yellow. It's got sleeves that go down to my elbows and a keyhole collar. Why?" Rin asked, pressing her hand to her cheek and finding it warm.
"I wanted to know what you're wearing...that's all," Sesshoumaru admitted, now with a nice mental picture in his head. The twitching was getting more insistent. Rin, on her end, smiled only a little, still careful of her injured lip. Yes, this conversation is definitely becoming intimate. Looking at her bedroom door, Rin stood up and walked over, letting the phone cord stretch out as she reached to shut it.
"Well...don't I...don't I get to know what you're wearing?" Rin asked, sitting down again and nervously playing with the edge of her math book.
"You could always come over and see," Sesshoumaru said, definitely aware of the actions going on by now below the belt. Please come over, Rin...
"I suppose I could...I can tell Miss Yaki that I'm going to a friend's house. It'd be a first, but I don't think she'd think anything else of it...do you mind if I come over?" Rin asked, already picturing things in her mind that made her blush and squirm in her seat. She could practically feel his hand between her thighs again.
"Not at all. I'm assuming you remember how to get here?" he asked, feeling his heartbeat speed up and his pants get very tight. Calm down...
"Yes, I remember perfectly. I'll be there in a couple hours after I finish my math," Rin said, hoping he didn't take offense that she was putting her homework first. She had the feeling that if she brought it with her, it wouldn't get done.
"Okay, I'll let you go then. See you a little later," he said. Rin couldn't help but notice that his voice sounded rougher, or that hers, when she answered, sounded a little more breathless.
"See you then."
