CHAPTER 3
Night had once again claimed the land and all its inhabitants. Kagome stretched her and and placed them under her head for additional support. She looked
over at her friends to find them sleeping peacefully.
Miroku managed to get closer to Sango than usual and Kagome was sure that if he made any "moves" Sango would slap him wether she was awake or not!
Kagome held in a giggle at that image. It's not that she wanted Miroku to get slapped but she knew how much they secretly cared for each other. Would they
ever confess their love? Only Kami could answer that
Kagome wished someone would love her, 'I wonder if I will ever be that lucky? At one point, I thought I could break through Inuyasha's barriers and make
him see how much I care for him. I would do anything for him, even now. Even after all the cruel things he says and his comparisons of me and Kikyo, I just
can't give up. I know he doesn't hate me, but I'm still not certain that he really likes me either....' Kagome looked up in the tree Inuyasha was sleeping in.
The hanyou's chin was resting on his chest and he appeared to be asleep, 'But if he really thinks I am so weak and stupid then why does he get jealous every
time Kouga-kun comes around? (Sigh) This is so confusing! Kagome sat up slowly so she wouldn't trigger his sensitive ears and wake him. Shippo was curled
up on a blanket next to her. 'He's so cute!' Kagome thought as she reached out to rub his back, 'I wonder if I will ever be a mom? I guess I should worry
about finding Mr. Right before I start planning a family.' Kagome smiled as she wondered what it would be like to have a baby.
She thought back to her own childhood remembering her dance recitals, school plays, sport competitions and the little things liked skinned knees and
nightmares. It was great having a mom to encourage you and give you words of confidence as well as comfort to chase all your fears away. 'That's the kind of
mom I want to be.'
Her thoughts soon turned back to Kouga, 'I wonder what he wants with me? I bet he is just like Inuyasha, only he speaks loving words instead of biting
criticisms. No, he's just another user and if I gave him the shikon jewel, he'd leave me as fast as a streak of lightening!' She laick dck down feeling troubled.
She had responsibilities and decisions to make that no 15 year old should ever have to face. Kagome reached over and cuddled Shippo close to her bosom and
fell into a restless sleep.
Morning came, bringing a wet dew from the damp night before. It came too soon as a tired Kagome brushed her hair and packed the remainder of supplies.
She needed to go home for a few days but dreaded telling Inuyasha. Sango was watching Kagome who looked deep in thought and a little worried.
She scooted closer to her friend, "What's wrong Kagome-chan?" Sango whispered.
"Nothing, it's just that I need to go home and I hate arguing with Inuyasha. It's always the same thing, he says no and I have to find a way around to gto get to
the well, he gets sat and I promise to be back in three days. I wish, just for once, that things could be different. I wish he would walk me to well say 'see ya in
three days' and go back to the village. Why does it always have to be a fight?"
Sango hugged Kagome, patting her on the back, "Don't worry Kagome-chan, we all know that you have a life back in your time. I just think Inuyasha is
worried about you not returning. I'm sure that the modern times are much more peaceful and convenient compared to here, plus you have other friends and
family. None of us would blame you if you didn't want to return......."
"Honestly, Sango, I am closer to my friends 'here' than the ones I have at home. I have matured a lot since we started traveling together and I don't really fit in
with my old friends anymore." Kagome looked so depressed
"Why don't you take some time to relax? None of us are going anywhere and neither are the jewel shards."
"Thanks Sango, maybe I will stay home for few extra days, just to get my life back in perspective."
Kagome smiled and went over to Shippo to say her good byes, "Shippo-chan, I'm going home for little while....." he looked upset and was about to protest,
"..BUT, I will be back before you know it, and I will bring you a special snack!" Kagome whispered that last part to Shippo as his eyes grew wide with
excitement.
"Will you bring me some chocolate?" he asked in a low voice.
"Is that all you want?" Kagome asked.
Shippo tilted his head and though for a minute, "Can I have some je-hly be-ens too?" she laughed at his attempt.
"You mean the Jelly Belly Jelly Beans? Of course, I'll bring you a whole bag of ALL the flavors!"
"Shippo jumped into her arms and hugged her tight "Thanks Kagome," glancing around to see where Inuyasha was, "but don't bring that rude hanyou any ok?"
Kagome laughed again and sat him down, "Well, even he needs a treat, perhaps that would make him happy. Where is he anyway?"
Little did they know that he had over heard the entire conversation and Shippo's remark to Kagome. He was pissed because she wanted to spend extra time
away from the group, but also happy because he could spend time with Kikyo. If Kagome wasn't around then he didn't have to worry about unwanted
interruptions.
On cue, Inuyasha walked into the clearing. "Did I hear my name?"
"Oh, hi....yeah....I was just saying that ineedtogohomeforacoupleofdaysandtakeabreak." Kagome tried to smile but ended up wincing at the face he was
making at her.
"Say that again..." he gritted out.
Kagome took a deep breath and repeated herself "I said I need to go home for a couple of days and take a break..."
"A break!!! A break from what?! You haven't found any shards!"
"Please, Inuyasha, I need to see my family and do my school work...ya know, just the usual things. But I also wanted to spend at least five days home instead
of the usual three. I just want some time for me." Kagome picked up her back pack and headed toward the well.
"Would you like for me to walk with you Kagome-sama?" She was a little surprised because Miroku lacked that "wait until we are alone" look.
"That's ok Miroku, I'll be fine. Bye everyone!" She reached out and patted the monks arm.
The others watched as she walked away. Inuyasha stomped behind her thinking of numerous insults, but they were soon forgotten. His nose picked up a scent
that made his ears flatten back and a growl rumble in his chest. Kagome noticed and turned to look at him, "What's wrong Inuy..." She stopped in mid
sentence when she sensed jewel shards approaching fast, 'Not nowat lat lousy timing Kouga-kun!' Inuyasha flexed his claws, he was eager a f a fight today.
A whirl wind swept past the well and circled them once, rasing a could of dust and leaves, and stopping right in front of Kagome. Before she could react,
Kagome found herself wrapped in the tight embrace of a handsome wolf. She pushed against his chest "Will you let me go?!" Kouga could tell she was
annoyed, but right now, it didn't matter.
"You heard her wimp! Let her go so I can finally kill you and take yohardhards!" Inuyasha put his hand on Tetsusaiga, ready to draw it and engage in battle,
"Not so fast half breed, I have a proposition for you that you might find interesting...." Inuyasha wasn't sure what to do. This was an entirely new situation for
him.
Usually when Kouga came around they would fight and argue over Kagome, there were no "deals" to be made and nothing to discuss except how slow and
painful the others death would be. Curious, Inuyasha decided to listen for once, "What do you want wolf?"
"What would you say, if I told you that I have found a way for you to resurrect your dead bitch without harming Kagome? She would live again, good as new,
and you could continue your lives together and take her as your mate?"
Inuyasha looked shocked. It took him a few minutes to fully process what Kouga had said and formulate an answer, "Are you serious? You don't have that
kind of power. What kind of shit are you tryin' to pull Kouga?"
"I'm not PULLING anything you dumb ass! It's true that I don't have this power, but I have found someone who does. Aimai gave me a potion that will
revive your love, but everything has a price. I have payed mine, but I am willing to make a trade."
"Aimai? I thought she was just some human myth, oh well. What sort of trade were you thinking of?" Inuyasha asked.
Kagome com completely still when she heard Kouga mention a trade. As she listened to the bargain he was trying to work out with Inuyasha, she had a
sudden horrible feeling that her life was about to change forever, and not in a good way either!
