This Sesshoumaru Doesn’t Do Christmas
Chapter 31 - A Dozen
Saturday, December 13, 2008
*Comfort for the Soul* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)"Okay guys, let's write our letters to Santa!" Kagome exclaimed."What's the point," a short, redheaded kitsune said dejectedly. "Santa never comes, and we all know any toy donations go to the human kids.""Shippo, I told you, Santa's coming this year, and he’s going to be bringing each of you presents. Now, don't you want him to know what you want?""Do you really mean it?" a little human girl asked, hope in her voice."I do, Rin. I spoke with Santa personally, and he said he's terribly sorry for missing you guys all this time. He's going to make it up to you all, so let's write those lists!"The cheers of happy children made Kagome smile, and she found that she loved Sesshoumaru even more for agreeing to do this for the demon children. They deserved an amazing Christmas just as much as every other child, and she was thrilled to be able to give it to them. She could have strangled the people running the orphanage. Just because no one wanted to adopt these children did not mean they deserved less than other children, and she was going to do whatever was necessary to ensure that never happened again, even if she had to dress Sesshoumaru up like the Easter Bunny and host her own egg hunt in the spring, and play tooth fairy to each and every demon child, and one little human one, all by herself.- *Set My Eyes Only On You* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)Children's lists in hand, Kagome entered the house with a huge smile on her face. Sesshoumaru had agreed that they would do all the shopping for the children that afternoon so that she would have time to get everything wrapped and ready."Santa! I'm home!" she announced in a singsong voice. "And I have the lists!"Sesshoumaru came out of the bedroom heaving a mental sigh. Why had he agreed to this again? Seeing her bright smile reminded him, but that didn't improve his outlook for the day. He expected that shopping for a mess of children would be a tedious affair and nothing could convince him otherwise. He held out his hand for the lists, and Kagome gave them to him, watching as he flipped through the small sheets of paper one by one. "I have no idea what any of this is," he said once he reached the final page."That's because you don't watch television. They've been advertising these toys for months.""I thought I was going to be purchasing more traditional toys, ones to help them develop their natural skills and learn to control their youki.""You are. That's why I had them write their age and the type of demon they are on their lists. But kids need regular toys, too, demon or not. We don't have to get all of it. Just one thing from each of their lists would be fine.”"And this human child? Is she housed with the demons?""Rin? Yeah, that's a long story. Come on! Let's go!" she exclaimed, bouncing in place. This time Sesshoumaru sighed audibly but allowed Kagome to tug him towards the front door. This was going to be a long day. Perhaps if he stayed focused only on his miko he would survive it.- *Wander* (Stella's Soundtrack Challenge)3 Hours Later"I can't find this silly loom Rin wants to save my life!" Kagome exclaimed. They had been wandering through the toy store for at least twenty minutes searching for that one item.A conveniently passing employee stopped. "The one that uses little rubber bands?""Yes! Do you know where it is?" the miko asked, her voice hopeful."Follow me," the young man said with a smile. Kagome and Sesshoumaru followed obediently, each pushing an overflowing cart. The man looked over their selected items with a raised brow. "How many children do you two have?""Twelve," Kagome replied as if it were the most natural thing in the world."None," Sesshoumaru answered at the same time. When the employee looked confused, the taiyoukai elaborated. "We are purchasing gifts for orphaned children.""Oh, well that's nice of you. It’s right here, and the refill packs are, too. The kids go through the rubber bands fast, so I'd recommend grabbing a few.""Thank you," Kagome said with a slight blush. She had walked past this shelf no less than five times during her search.Once they were alone again, Sesshoumaru turned to look at Kagome. "You do realize that our house is not big enough for twelve children.""I know that! But it doesn't mean I can't love them all.""Of course not. I would expect nothing less. Your heart is bigger than anyone else I have ever known. Now that we have completed their lists, it is my turn to take you somewhere. I know just the place."While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
