Title: Ten Matches to Burn
Prompt: Scent
Genre: Action/Adventure, Romance, Western, Yaoi.
Word count: 381
Warnings: Needs to be read as a sort of nursery rhyme to sound funny.
Characters: Renkotsu
Prompt Summary: Renkotsu sets in motion his plan for revenge.
Won second place for prompt.
Matches burning one by one,
Fate is sealed no need to run.
Strike them up, light it up now,
As only the damned know how.
It's time to start the fire,
Soon we will watch them expire.
Match one; strike it on the box,
Before midnight strikes the clocks.
Flame is lit, now drop the match,
As the scent begins to catch.
Fire starts upon the rug,
Greeted only by a shrug.
And then match two follows suit,
Dropped beside a cowboy boot.
Air breathes life onto the flame,
With only themselves to blame.
It was already too late,
They could not escape their fate.
Next in line came match three,
Pluck it out and set it free.
Gently place it on the bar,
Causing it to start to char.
Now the hour strikes it's cord,
But the sound goes on ignored.
Match four we come upon next,
Dropped onto the shelf of text.
Useless novels worth a dime,
Ones you'd read with extra time.
Paper light and quick to burn,
As the air begins to churn.
The next to light is match six,
Leading toward the River Styx.
Flicked across the room to land,
Upon the piano grand.
Wooden frame burns with such ease,
Down to its ivory keys.
Lucky match number seven,
Won't bring them seventh heaven.
But into hell it would send,
There, forever they would spend.
Dropped upon the bottom stair,
Leaving them without a prayer.
Now match eight came soon after,
Greeted by his dark laughter.
Upon the stage it did fall,
Which had seen many a brawl.
Old wood sure caught fire fast,
Its destruction unsurpassed.
Match nine was soon to follow,
Leaving him to feel hollow.
As he was sure to soon learn,
Only one match left to burn.
This one he placed on the door,
Helping to settle his score.
And then he lit the last one,
Taking in all he had done.
With the whiskey it was stowed.
Where it was soon to explode.
His revenge was soon to pass,
For their sins they'd pay en masse.
One by one, matches were lit,
For the sins they did commit.
Far too late they realized now,
The truth of his ignored vow.
Vengeance would be his that night,
As he repaid them forthright.
