The Color of Me
I drown in my reflection

With all that was said and done, Choukichi felt better about his decision to let his female mate be free to pursue a man who would give her all she needed after his second litter was brought into the world. It was a small litter of only two. He now had one little girl and one boy. He really didn’t want another litter and was done playing the loving husband to his mate since they both knew there really was no real love between them.
Choukichi allowed his former mate to remain in his small castle until she found a mate of her own which did not take much time at all. She ended up falling in love with Lord Kouga’s Captain of the guards and therefore made her home in the mountains of the North. It was a rough life in comparison to the luxury she was used to, but Choukichi’s sister, Lelune, did not seem to mind the life of the wolf pack.
It would not be the first time that a vixen chose a powerful male canine of a different race. In fact Ayame’s bright red hair and green eyes came from a royal white wolf male and a young royal female kitsune. Ayame’s mixed blood was part of the reason Kouga was uncertain about mating her since she was not only powerful in wolf magic, but in trickery as well. It was indeed Ayame’s tricks that caused the unavoidable rift between the two mates making Kouga the first male wolf to change the laws of mating for life amongst wolves. This disregard for the law almost caused him to lose his place as Lord of the North. If it were not for the constant fights that he and Ayame had the wolf pack would have agreed that Kouga was not worthy of leadership.
Kouga still had to choose a mate of royal blood in order to appease the Elders and so far Kouga was in deep shit since he had yet to claim a new mate. He had to either find a mate or the Elders would force him to mate one of their choosing and Kouga only had two years left to make a firm decision. Like all the other Lords, Kouga hoped that someday Inuyasha would tire of Sesshoumaru. Kouga was and had been in love with the beautiful foul mouthed hanyou although Kouga just told himself that it was Kagome he desired. For a long time, it was true that the wolf wanted to be with the young human miko who was both beautiful and kind. Kouga wondered if Inuyasha still had feelings for the girl he left behind. Perhaps that was why Kouga felt so attached to Inuyasha and even perhaps why he so desperately wanted to mate with his former rival. Still, Kouga was not stupid enough to get himself killed by Sesshoumaru so he chose to play the friend role in hopes that someday Inuyasha would come around to his side, but it seemed that Kouga was just as lost as Choukichi since neither man seemed to feel satisfied with their life unless they were chasing the unattainable.
Choukichi wanted Shippo and Kouga wanted Inuyasha. Both men were fools for love, but no one could really blame them since fate is not always kind to those stuck in unrequited love. Choukichi felt jealous of Shippo’s wife Fuu who was only supposed to be mated to Shippo for the first littler of pups. It seemed Shippo wanted more time with the Inu demoness and with Sven who was so like the Inu demons that Shippo had grown up with. Perhaps if he had silver hair rather than the blood red that flowed about him in waves Shippo might see him in a better light, but fact was their relationship even as cousins was strained since Shippo became Lord of the South.
Shippo would never become a beta demon and Choukichi knew he would rather die an Alpha than give up the powers he now held even if it meant never gaining a new mate. Shippo was right an Alpha demon could never be a beta since it would destroy them and cause them to eventually resent their mate. The last thing Choukichi wanted was to resent the man he loved so he hoped that someday he would find the one who could replace Shippo in his heart, until then he would avoid his cousin as much as possible since it was the only way he would ever stay sane.

Kouga was squatting sniffing the ground trying to find out what was going on with this new threat of cats in his lands. It seemed that the a few of the cat demons that had once caused problems in the west were trying to take up some new territory in the North and had not sent any messengers to ask for permission to share the mountain range with the wolves that already resided there.
So far there had been no altercations with those Panther demons that seemed happy to stay in the western regions along the outer edges of Lord Sesshoumaru’s domain. Inuyasha was the one that talked Sesshoumaru into being generous with the cat demons since they had agreed to some sort of truce by promising that the demon cats would not ever try to resurrect their cat God again.
Tauren, the female cat demon leader, seemed to keep order within the panther tribe. Even the small lynx tribe that had adopted Inuyasha as one of their own many years ago was not causing any issues so therefore Lord Shippo of the South allowed them to remain within their borders as long as they too lived peacefully.
This new band of cats was from another continent all together, but had stayed with the panther tribe for a short time. These were apparently called tigers and were from a hot country called Africa since they traveled from India to take on new names and had hoped that they could live in peace with the populations there only to find it to be uninhabitable for the kind of life they were looking for. This information was from what Tauren had said when Kouga confronted her they were a rogue group not willing to follow the laws of her tribe and therefore left the panther tribe looking to take over a new territory of their own. So far the tiger leader, Amare, (who was a handsome creature thus he fulfilled the meaning of his name) had decided that the natural caves of the Northeast would be a suitable home for them to repopulate the tribe since they had been hunted by humans almost to extinction. When the tigers decided to fight back and hunt the humans their numbers started to dwindle down to almost nothing. The tigers themselves were not looking to mate with any other race of cat and still wished to hunt humans if necessary to survive. Kouga would not allow that as his solemn vow to Kagome that he promised he would keep so if these tigers thought they could get away with hunting humans in any part of Japan than they would find out the hard way that this would not go unpunished.
Kouga didn’t know about handsome and cat demon in the same sense of the word, but either way this Amare asshole was not going to take over any of Kouga’s lands without his permission and if it came to war he would indeed slaughter the bunch of them. Gathering a group of wolves Kouga decided he would scout out the area and see what these bastards were doing and since hunting for food was not exactly easy in these mountains he would first suggest that these tigers find a new home elsewhere. If they refused than he would simply make them extinct since there was no way he would put up with that horrid stench in his lands. The damn Inu’s could be soft hearted and all, but Kouga would not forget how that damn cat demon had raped Inuyasha and thus even being civil to Tauren had taken a lot of effort on his part.
Depending on how many tigers they found, Kouga would see if they indeed needed to contact his brothers to the northwest since the packs there were even larger than his own. There was no way his packs of the northeast would be able to remove a large group of cats on their own. Kouga knew he should hold council with the Inu No Tashio before going to battle, but if words and numbers did not threaten these tiger idiots than he would indeed send a messenger to Lord Sesshoumaru to allow them to slaughter the bunch of them.

Amare walked along the stream that curved along the mountainside that he currently called home. There were some kind of fish in these clear waters and he proceeded to capture a few before heading back to his tribe. There were only 6 of them that came from Burma to South Africa to Japan and they were all pure breed Royal demon Bengal tigers all with piercing golden eyes and features similar to their Asian relatives although their markings are much different.
The Royal Bengal Tiger tribe has a magnificent appearance. The coat colors of these wildcats are reddish orange with narrow black, gray, or brown stripes, generally in a vertical direction. Amare has the deep black lines of his Mother and Father making him look more intense than those who followed him to Japan. Those who followed Amare were Zesiro and Kehinde (the twin brothers), two females Vakasa (the wanderer) and Themba (the trusted one), and (the brave warrior orphaned boy cub) Adofo.
Zesiro and Kehinde are identical twins, both born with the brown striping and always mischievous much like the kitsune tribe. Vakasa and Themba both carried the gray stripes since they were sisters and mates of the twin brothers. Adofo had brown stripes, but they were different in pattern than the twins. He also carried a deep sorrow within for his former parents who were killed by human hunters in their truest forms. Adofo would never see revenge for his family since Amare had found him and taken the orphaned cub with him stating that revenge would happen when the gods themselves would punish those humans that had killed so many of their tribe.
Alisha (the noble and kind one) was Amare’s mate and she was the Queen of their tribe before she too was murdered by humans who killed her while she was pregnant with Amare’s cub. Since females ruled the tribe Amare was cast aside for not protecting his mate and was banished from India. All of the tribe was at civil war since Amare was a loved and would have taken Princess Aindri as a new mate after the proper mourning period, but she having a mate of her own refused him unless he wished to remain as a sex slave to her which was an honorable position, but Amare knew if he did her jealous mate would have killed him so he took the banishment and many of Aindri’s people followed him only to be forced back into Aindri’s servitude.
Out of deep mourning for his beautiful Alisha, Amare left with only five who for some reason Aindri allowed to leave since these were truly loyal to Amare and she did not want to raise the orphaned cub although it was her duty to take Adofo in as one of her own.
Amare missed his homeland, but they could not live in peace with the human population and to go back was to face death. Amare was hoping for something different. He did not want to continue hunting humans since there was really no point in it other than to die since humans always feared what they did not understand.
At one time his tribe was worshiped as gods to the human populations that called them shape shifters or evil demons. Fact was even if they were considered gods by humans they were still slaughtered by these seemingly fragile creatures that had become the enemy of his people. All Amare wished for was a place to call home and to be able to live in peace. Now all he had was these mountains in Japan and a deep hope that one day his people would be free to live without fear.
These forests and mountains had such promise, but it was always like this for the young Amare. They would find a place only to be forced to leave since Amare refused to live by rules that would harm his people. The panther tribe was kind enough to let them stay for a time, but when they were told that cats in this land were not allowed to hunt humans, he had to leave. Amare would not seek them out to hunt, but he refused to be kind to creatures that had destroyed all he worked in his life for. There was no forgiveness and so Amare came here to this quiet place that would allow them the seclusion that the land offered.
Amare slowly made his way back up to the mountains with his fish and smiled since for now they had food and a warm place to sleep at least for tonight.

Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru could hear the wolves calling out into the wilderness.
“I wonder what has Kouga’s packs moving so swiftly through the forest.”
Inuyasha stated as he and Thoren sat playing a game of cards.
“I don’t know. Perhaps it is because it is spring and mating season again. You know that everyone becomes restless this time of year.”
Sesshoumaru sat back in his chair filling out forms while watching his mates with their card game that Inuyasha had received from Kagome a long time ago.
“They are not calling for a mate Inuyasha. Are your ears working properly? It is too small a group for mating season. It sounds more like a patrol.”
Inuyasha threw a pillow at Sesshoumaru’s head only to have the demon catch it then dropped it to the floor.
“You know I don’t speak wimpy wolf asshole. Besides what does Kouga have to patrol, although the guy has no brain so I guess it would make sense that they are out looking for it.”
Thoren bust up laughing and Sesshoumaru smiled a little. Funny part was Inuyasha was totally serious about Kouga having no brain.
“Well, I am certain if Kouga finds whatever they are searching for they will be sending us a messenger to tell us what is going on. I swear that wolf will find any excuse to come and bother you since that wolf seems to think he can camp here whenever possible just to be close to you.”
Thoren stated to Inuyasha with a wink.
“If he does that then I have to allow Sesshoumaru to maim him since I already promised that if Kouga gets fresh with me again that Lord asshole will get his chance to beat him up a bit. Besides we just had this castle cleaned last week, I don’t need it to smell like wolf ass.”
Sesshoumaru smiled.
“So is that a promise Inuyasha?”
Inuyasha gave Sesshoumaru a look that meant no although he could make his beloved wife eat his words.
“I promise he will be able to at least walk out of here on his own, but he may have erratic breathing problems since I will crush his throat a bit if he dares to make a move on you.”
Sesshoumaru stated as Inuyasha turned back to his game.
“Oh my hell……….I won!”
Thoren giggled as he set his cards down.
A Royal flush. At that Inuyasha attacked Thoren.
“No one’s that lucky Thoren! Twice in a row?”
Trying to pull Inuyasha off Thoren, Sesshoumaru had to hold back his fuming wife.
“You shuffled the cards Inuyasha!”
Thoren stated still giggling.
“I’m gonna kill you ya cheat!”
Inuyasha ranted as he thrashed in Sesshoumaru’s arms.
