"I knew I would find you here"... Annabelle has seen the lad standing on his back, silent as a tomb. She fastly walked towards him, approaching one hand of his shoulder. "Kagewaki, I know it is you". As soon as she touched him, his local garment and skin dissolved, then the effect gradually spread all over his body till every part of the demised young master vanish into dust. Annabelle screamed in terror, holding her pale cheeks in hands.
"Nothing, that's what Naraku made of me when he stole my appearance. Into nothing" His voice echoed in the void. "And you, aware of that, still gave into his charms, you have allowed him to touch you! You laid with him"! He accused her, disgust revolving in those words.
"Kagewaki, this ain't you" She said convictly.
"It happens that this is all what has left of me, Anaberu. Or did you think I would have been at peace after everything I have been through"?
"You are not this bitter person, this is my imagination!" She insisted.
"Do not dare to treat me like a mirage! How could you fall in love with my murderer?" And his voice sounded heavier and louder, echoing from every direction, cornering her. "You were supposed to be mine" His growls trembled though, his human essence was weeping.
"So is that how you see me, as a possession of yours?" Saliva went down her throat in harshness. Anna felt like someone was crushing her heart, making it spill every drop of blood it had inside. With that red cascade within her core, pictures of her gentle beloved has descended. How she missed him still. But that Hitomi who was speaking such things wasn't that man, it couldn't be. Then she remembered when Naraku questioned about how many time the two sweethearts had spent together, and what seemed to be a lifetime, in fact was least than a year. "Did I ever really know you, my lord?" She asked in a low timbre.
"Forgive me for not being the perfect man you have idealized... I was just a human being who fought to keep it's strength for you until the end, but I cannot simply feel resigned about someone who had stollen my life, my youth, now is longing to steal me once more, he wants to take my fair bride from me..." A cold breeze caressed the Scottish lass' face.
"I'm so sorry, my lord..." Feelings of grief, guilt and anger were twisting her inside. Her eyes closed for a while, her cheek got shivered with his cold spectral touch. Yet, her instincts could tell that this was him in some way. "We are both human and we're not good on keeping control of our lives at all. I did not choose any of this" Belle had held the teardrops on the edge of her eyelashes as long as she could.
"You may lie to yourself, it's easier this way" That soft cool blow wiped one of her tears away. "Everything in this life is a matter of choice, and if I had chosen to listen to you, maybe today we would be sharing a bed. I would have been the first to touch you, to love you..." He sighed. "But Naraku was smarter, wasn't he? Even your dearest memory with me it was him in my place. I chose to trust Naraku, and I lost you to him".
"Stop it!" It was too much for her to take, so Anna lost her composure.
"You see, I think not everything he has told me was a lie though. In some point he was right about you, Anaberu" Hitomi didn't seem to care about her pleading.
"No, it isn't you, it's that damn jewel shard!" She yelled interrupting his speech, trying to convince herself.
"You are a very attractive woman" He persisted on speaking nevertheless. "Your peculiarity is mesmerizing, I could not resist you... yet, such peculiarity makes you dangerous. You have attracted the evil when you got that creature's attention that day, in the forest, when you healed my leg".
"A creature?" Anna recalled of a being lurking her from behind the woods, however the lass was certain that she never has mentioned this to Hitomi.
"Naraku. It was you who attracted him to the castle".

Before the sun cast it first rays and grace the lands with it's heat, the hanyo wearing a baboon mask was already walking by the woods, dragging his white pelt over the grass. Ahead, resting her back against a tree trunk covered by greenish moss, was a sacred priestess whose Graúna eyes were closed, and arms crossed, showing no evident worries.
"Naraku..." Then, those dark pools revealed themselves, as empty as they used to be and she took some steps further. "It has been a while since the last time I felt your presence around. What have you been doing?"
"Do not pretend you aren't aware" His rubies got stuck on her silhouette. "I know you were there" The hanyo was mentioning the recent events when Ailyn and Annabelle has been in confrontation. "I know you helped your reincarnation to find me" An eyebrow lifted in suspicious.
"So why are you coming to me now? If I didn't know you, I would say you had forgotten me" Kikyo must be defiant always.
The usually provocative spider, this time sealed his lips and, a bit anxious, got closer to her. Her arrogant manners faded instantly.
What is he doing? She thought. There was a detail, as tiniest as it was, glimmering into those scarlet eyes. The mystery would have made every inch of the miko shudder, it may had caught fearful sighs of her very soul if her body wasn't sculpted in clay. As Naraku's feet were moving forward, hers stepped back. "What is it Naraku?" Kikyo growled low, almost whispering.
"Are you afraid?" A devious grin could be seen behind his mask as the priestess' back hit against the tree.
"Do not be ridiculous, you know you can't hurt me" Kikyo gazed him intensely, yet not so fearless as she used to be.
"I am done of your arrogance, Kikyo" He said while cornering her between his two arms, as his hands splayed the mossy trunk behind her. The hanyo's eyes binded on a visage of a love as old as his own existence. What am I doing in here? A sudden bitterness almost froze his abdomen from inside while his eyes were rolling upon the frigid woman. In her semblance, resentment was spilling so concretely that Naraku could almost smell it.
"Stay away from me" She demanded, feeling disgusted for finally understanding the reason of his visit. The object of her hate didn't came to murder her. Oh no, he had come for something else. Something nasty.
"Or what? Do you think you can defeat me now, by yourself?" He chuckled.
"There is something different about you..." She studied him in that closeness. "I can tell that the one in front of me is not the same Naraku of a time ago" and then a brief laugh sounded from her.
"What is so funny?" His fingers sunk into the wood, nails ripping slivers out.
"You are desperate, are you not?" Her gaze was showing it's confidence again. "You could not remain distant for so long. Although you try so hard, you always surrender in the end." The sound of claws dragging over the tree's trunk didn't intimidate her. "Your heart beats for me, you cannot scape from your human nature".
"Wretch woman..." Naraku's voice sounded in an angry whisper between his teeth. His furious hands grabbed the cold miko's face.
"Release me!" Kikyo protested while trying to break free of his vicious touch. "You will never have me!" Her pure halo emanated intensely. The hanyo's palms began to burn and even so his hands didn't move from her cheeks.
The mask once covering his troubled semblance has been taken out by some tentacles which had emerged from his shoulders. His features were finally unveiled, the fire burning in his eyes were an explosion of confusion, lust and frustration. While contemplating that pale woman, he wished the blackness of her hair could be graced by the color of orange flames, he dreamed that the disgusted nocturnal sky into her globes could turn into the sunny firmament of the afternoon, so calm, so blue. And, at last, he yearned that her scent of bones and graveyard soil could be replaced by the sweet perfume of a white rose.
Naraku frowned, humming in bitterness, and then dropped her carelessly, walking away without saying a word.
"How dare you?!" She hissed. The arachnid has succeeded to take any reaction from her. "How dare you, Naraku?!" Kikyo yelled than, still realizing what had happened.
He didn't answer, just continued to follow his path, disappearing into a cloud of miasma, leaving the priestess and himself haunted by the doubts.
To be continued...

Graúna is a black bird. There is a Brazilian novel called Iracema, written by José de Alencar, in which the black eyes of the beautiful indian woman, the protagonist of the story, are described just like "olhos de Graúna", in english "Graúna eyes" linking it's blackness and brightness to the bird's feathers. Iracema is a classic of Brazilian Literature, and in my opinion is one of the most beautiful novels José de Alencar had written. It feels like poetry, such beautiful are all the descriptions and metaphors, it's delicate in a way I can't even explain.
