Sesshoumaru greeted the messengers politely as he took the letters from the Lord’s of the South and North. The messengers were sent to the dining hall to have lunch with the other servants until Sesshoumaru was ready to give them his response.
Reading over Shippo’s request, Sesshoumaru allowed himself to smile a bit. It seemed that Sven was once again pregnant and this of course would make Inuyasha go totally insane since his mate was still sending out letters of congratulations to his other children who had just started their first litters.
In truth Inuyasha did not have to try to keep up with their ever growing family, but Inuyasha wished to be a part of his children’s lives no matter where they went. In fact Inuyasha was planning on having a family reunion in the main ballroom to the east of their castle. That meant that their castle would be filled to the brink with Inu demons although there would be a few, like Shippo who were wards of the demon Lord that would be invited as well so there would be a little variety of demons.
Inuyasha wasn’t usually up to dealing with large crowds, but when it came to his family then things were a bit different since Inuyasha enjoyed holding the little ones that seemed fascinated by this creature with the soft doggy ears on his head. Inuyasha adored children and was much different with them than he had been when he was raising Shippo. A lot of Inuyasha’s rough exterior had softened since he became the Lady of the West and it was a good thing in some ways that Sesshoumaru’s Mother had influenced this new attitude upon his wife since heaven knows that Sesshoumaru did not have the patience when dealing with Inuyasha’s sometimes rude behavior.
Thoren of course was corrupted by Inuyasha so they both tended to disrespect Sesshoumaru on occasion, but as his mates he allowed this only because it was indeed amusing and deep down he knew that this disrespect was not because the two of them did not care about him. In fact there were none in any kingdom that could hold a candle to the love that the three mates shared. It was just frustrating to Sesshoumaru that his wife insisted on still labeling him an asshole all these years. Even if it was true, it came out as more of an endearment than an insult the way Inuyasha would say it so Sesshoumaru accepted it even if he didn’t like it.
Reading the message from Kouga only gave Sesshoumaru a headache. Apparently Kouga had some of his men hunt in the Western lands for food since the mountains were scarce during last winter so he was going to send a gift or tribute for not asking Lord Sesshoumaru in advance if he could hunt in his lands since he was afraid that he was doing something against their treaty. Sesshoumaru being who he was had already allowed Kouga to hunt on his lands during the winter months when they signed the treaty since the beasts would come down from the mountains during the snow into the Western lands, but Kouga being the brainless idiot that he was completely ignored the clauses that went into effect once the treaty was signed. It was either that or the wolf did not know how to read which was always possible.
Sesshoumaru would test the wolf later when he arrived at the castle to see if the wolf cub really knew how to read. If nothing else it would amuse him and Inuyasha to have Kouga sign the idiot of the day letter that he was going to write up. It was one thing to dictate a letter to someone who knew how to read and write; it was another thing to just sign something because it was there. In fact on the treaty it looked like Kouga just put a couple lines together to make up what was supposed to be his name. It was practically illegible.
Walking onto the balcony of his study, Sesshoumaru watched his mates who were having tea and biscuits. The two of them seemed to be at peace with the world around them as his children were lined up in rows on a large platform practicing their moves with bamboo swords. This third litter of his was going to be mated to their cousins in the fall so they would not be here much longer and so his two mates were trying to get in as much time with their children before they were turned over to their mates. Inuyasha would of course ask Sesshoumaru to help him produce another litter of pups before spring was over, but Sesshoumaru really wanted some time for them to travel the lands again since things had changed quite a bit over the years.
Humans were adapting and changing as were demons. It seemed as though the human populations were getting larger now that they were not being hunted down by demons and this concerned Sesshoumaru since he wished for balance. He couldn’t allow humans to over populate his lands which meant there was a new enemy needed to destroy some of these human villages once again. Father would agree even with his love of humans. Too much of anything was not good for his people even if it was peaceful lately.
Hanyous also were starting to become a new concept since they were accepted into both demon and human society. As soon as hanyous started to become integrated into society more demon and human matings became the new fad. Thus hanyous were also starting to overpopulate the lands and therefore something needed to be done to cull this before it too got out of control.
Sesshoumaru knew if he killed off any hanyous or was a part of their massacre Inuyasha would go ballistic on him. It was going to be bad enough that Sesshoumaru had to allow bandits to roam free for a while on his lands and he was very well aware that this would not go over well with Inuyasha either. Still, in order to maintain balance in nature it was only natural for a species to have a natural enemy even if it was themselves fighting amongst each other. It was either allowing the bandits to come in and ravage the villages or find a way for the humans to do battle against each other.
Lord Ken allowed too many humans to populate his lands and this was the third time that he had offered up another portion of land filled with humans to the Inu No Tashio. Soon the Eastern Lord would only have his castle left and then there would be no more Lord of the East. In fact, Sesshoumaru deduced that he would offer taking over the entire East and offer Lord Ken a reasonable position as an advisor or something fairly noble although Lord Ken would lose his title as a Lord of the East. He was in fact doing so to himself most likely not even realizing this.
Since the Ken family had been ruling over the East for years, perhaps he could even allow Ken to keep his castle as long as he allowed others to rule in his place since Sesshoumaru knew what had to be done in order to maintain a semblance of peace by allowing controlled chaos. This would eliminate any questions to who was in charge and as Sesshoumaru wandered the lands he would ask that the other Lords do the same so that they all could come up with a viable solution to the problem at hand. Much of the human populations of the East were already at war with one another since humans did not seem to understand that they were ruled over by demons thus believing they owned the lands they were occupying. It was time to show these people who was in charge before things got out of control.
Going back to his writing desk, Sesshoumaru began to write the letters that would bring the Lords together once again. He would allow Inuyasha and Thoren to perform for their guests and afterwards they would come up with a decent plan of attack on the human populations to the East and to the Southwest of his lands. Most of the people that were in these demon territories knew little to nothing about demons since most weak demons were driven off or killed by both humans and demons. There was little fear in humans anymore and that needed to be changed.
Inuyasha was to never find out about their decision to force the humans to fight amongst each other or the raids that would be set up to insure Japan was not overpopulated with any race. That was another reason he did not want Inuyasha or Thoren pregnant again for a long time. The Inu population was thriving and living in territories in many different areas both inside and outside of Japan. There was indeed no need to have more pups when their children were having pups of their own. Sesshoumaru decided he would put his Mother in charge of things until he and his mates returned from their travels. Mother knew exactly how to run his kingdom while he was gone since she had done so before and with his Uncle Yuya at her side no one would question anything the two powerful Inu’s stated in his absence. The only thing Sesshoumaru was concerned about was the fact Inuyasha and Thoren did not fight anymore. Sesshoumaru had made it clear to both his mates that he was to do any fighting and that they were just to enjoy pleasantries and act as any Lady should act. It would soon be time for them both to be set up with armor and weapons for their travels although Sesshoumaru would still do most of the fighting himself. Still, he had to teach his mates how to defend themselves again and this would not be an easy task since it had been many years that the tessaiga, bakusaiga, and tensaiga had been taken to battle. The swords would need to be cleaned and sharpened.
It was time to see if Totosai was still around. If the old man died, Sesshoumaru hoped he had an apprentice since new weapons would need to be forged for his family. Sesshoumaru summoned one of his servants to go and fetch the messengers as he finished off the last letter. Their meeting would have to be in secret and no interruptions would be allowed. Once he was done Sesshoumaru then would speak to Lord Ken about the East in private hoping that it didn’t cause a war because if it did Sesshoumaru would have no choice except to slaughter the man as he stood to take over the land by force. Sesshoumaru had a feeling no one would miss him including his family.

Shippo was surprised that he received a letter from Sesshoumaru so soon. He had only sent the messenger that morning and it was late evening when the messenger arrived. Looking at the letter, Shippo frowned a bit. There was to be a top secret meeting and no one including Inuyasha was to know about the information that would be given. Shippo had a bad feeling about this meeting although he did look forward to hearing Inuyasha play the flute. That had to be some kind of trick since there was no way he could imagine Inuyasha playing such a delicate instrument. Still, Inuyasha had changed quite a bit so perhaps it was true. Either way it would be good for him to see the Inu’s again.
Shippo looked out at the night sky feeling the cool breeze as it whipped his long red hair around him in waves. He only wore his dark green sleeping pants allowing his muscular chest to welcome the night. His gaze lingered to his mates who were sleeping peacefully in the large bed. It was hard to tell where the silver hair ended and began again as the two were wrapped in each other’s arms. They had no real worries or stress on their shoulders as Shippo had. He couldn’t think about how lucky his mates were to have each other during the day when he was working trying to run an empire on his own since Uncle Lin had left him only advising Shippo when there was a need.
Instead of Lord Lin coming to his aid, Shippo now had Choukichi looking after things when he was traveling. He had sent the letter and hoped for an answer, but was still waiting for confirmation. It was like his cousin just disappeared into thin air. If Choukichi wasn’t going to be available, Shippo had no choice but to ask his Uncle to stay in his stead. Looking down into the gardens and into the forest Shippo wondered what kind of trouble his cousin was in now since he had unmated his sister. Once that had been done it was like trying to find the wind when it came to looking for Choukichi. Lelune had been the best thing that happened to Choukichi and his cousin really blew it when it came to her.
Kouga’s packs were getting all of the good mates and Shippo knew he would have to do something about Choukichi soon since the fox demons needed to seriously repopulate their numbers since during the battle against Naraku many of their kind were killed by demons like the Thunder Brothers. The least Choukichi could do was at least tell Shippo where he was going. If Choukichi was looking for a new mate or even scouting the lands Shippo had the right to know. This was very foolish of his cousin and Shippo swore when he got Choukichi alone they would have a long talk.

Choukichi ran through the forests in his true form toward the Northern Mountains. He had an idea of where he was going, but really did not know what he was going to do when he got there. Prince Kouga would understand him. He had to otherwise there was nothing left for Choukichi to do except for maybe end it all pissing off his cousin again.
Choukichi wanted to see what these wolves had to offer. Perhaps there was one amongst them Choukichi could mate with. As far as pups, Choukichi figured he had done his duty. There was no need to produce more than he had. He was not a Lord unless that included acting Lord when Shippo was away.
As the mountains got closer Choukichi did not pay attention to where he was going and ended up running right into Ginta and Hakkaku who were out patrolling the lands. Swiftly changing into his humanoid form he had two spears at his throat.
“I come in peace. I just need to speak to Lord Kouga.”
Ginta and Hakkaku looked at the young fox demon.
“Oh, you’re from Lord Shippo’s pack. Are you here to reclaim your sister since you can’t do that shit here? We mate for life so you might as well go back to where you came from pal.”
Hakkaku stated as he lowered his spear.
“Ya, so you better just head back to where you came from.”
Ginta stated as he too lowered his spear.
Choukichi frowned.
“I am not here for Lelune. I am here to speak to Lord Kouga.”
Kouga came down from the mountain after smelling fox demon.
“What is going on here?”
Kouga stated with a yawn. He had been up all night with the elders who insisted that he find a new mate or else he would lose his title. So far his only option was to go back to Ayame, which he didn’t want to do, but Ayame was cool enough to let him mate her again even if it was just for show until he could find someone that would get him over his crush on Inuyasha.
Of course the elders didn’t buy it, but they couldn’t really argue it either so, so far things were going fairly smoothly with the exception of the tiger demons that would be going with him in the morning.
“I am here to find a new mate Lord Kouga. I know I am not a wolf, but I am beseeching you to allow me to stay with your pack to see if perhaps my future also lies here since my sister seemed to find happiness amongst all of you.”
Kouga frowned. First he had fucking cat demons wanting to stay on his mountains and now some fox demon wanted to see if one of his people would mate with him? Why was he becoming the popular one all of a sudden?
“There ain’t enough food here for us let alone you. You would have to fend for yourself and fact is we only take in female fox demons and even that is rare. I don’t know what you are looking for pal, but I honestly would try elsewhere.”
Choukichi bowed formally to Kouga.
“My name is Choukichi and I am the acting Lord for Lord Shippo. I can bring food if that is what it takes for you to accept me. I won’t be in the way and I promise to help you with anything you need. I just need some time to sort things out and I can’t do that in the South.”
Kouga sighed.
“Fine, you can stay here, but don’t expect a warm welcoming from any of us this late at night. You can use the cave to the left since no one is occupying it for the time being. Just don’t expect anyone is going to be thrilled to have you here. Ginta and Hakkaku will go over the rules here and how things work since they are in charge while I am gone. Just don’t cause any trouble or we’ll have to kick your ass.”
Choukichi smiled and settled himself into the left cave. It was a bit damp, but not too cold and turning back into his true form he rested for the night.
