Chapter 36: Death In The Family

A/N: I have jumped forward a few years. Amaiya is now 6 and Tanmaru is 4. Kohana and Kiyoshi are both 4 as well and Nyssa is now 3. This chapter will be very sad =(
The white stone palace in the Western lands was cloaked in a blanket of fog that evening. It served well to match the dreary moods of all the palace�s inhabitants. Everyone had gathered in Lord Inutaisho�s private chambers. The great demon lord lay in his bed looking rather defeated. He was weak and falling victim to a strange virus that was poisoning his blood. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru were both kneeling at either side of their father�s bed. Behind Inuyasha stood his lovely mate Kagome, she was holding their youngest daughter Nyssa. Beside Kagome stood a six year old Amaiya and a four year old Tanmaru. The children both clung tightly to their mother�s legs unsure of what was going on around them.
Behind Sesshomaru stood his mate Rin who was six months pregnant with their third child. Her stomach was beginning to become noticeably rounded from the pup that was quickly growing inside her. Peeking out from behind their mother�s legs were a four year old Kohana and a four year old Kiyoshi. Rin�s cinnamon brown eyes were red and swollen from all the tears that had leaked from them. �My children I have summoned you and your families because I am near death. It is time for you Sesshomaru to take over as Lord of all the Western lands. Be kind to your brother and take care of your family.�
�I will father, I promise.�
�And you Inuyasha, please learn to peacefully exist with Sesshomaru. Take care of Kagome and your pups.�
�Hai father, I will.� The two brothers both squeezed their father�s hands tightly.
�Rin, take care of Sesshomaru and your pups. I�m sorry that I will not be alive to witness the birth of your new pup.�
�I will take care of the pups and Sesshomaru. You will be here in spirit to see the new pup into this world.�
�Kagome watch over Inuyasha and continue to be the wonderful mother you are.�
�Hai, I shall always watch over Inuyasha. Thank you for all that you have given me.� Lord Inutaisho nodded and drew in a ragged breath. His time was drawing to an end quickly and it was becoming painfully obvious. Rin glanced at Sesshomaru who nodded for her to take their children out of the chambers. Inuyasha also gestured for Kagome to take their pups out of the room.
Once their families had gone the two brothers sat at their father�s bedside. Inuyasha glanced nervously at Sesshomaru who gave him an equally nervous glance. Inutaisho cleared his throat causing both his sons to look at him quickly. �Sesshomaru, promise me that you shall be a good Lord of the Western lands?�
�Hai fr, Ir, I shall not disappoint you.�
�Inuyasha, you must put your and Sesshomaru�s differences aside because I will no longer be around to keep the peace between the two of you.� Inuyasha nodded feeling a lump beginning to form in the back of his throat. �I love you both dearly my sons and I am very proud of the men you have grown up to become.� Sesshomaru blinked and two tears slipped down his pale face. Inuyasha closed his amber eyes and allowed his tears to flow freely down his cheeks. �It�s time for me to go my sons, farewell. We will be together again in the next life.�
Sesshomaru and Inuyasha watched as their father closed his amber eyes and took his last breath. Then they both felt his hands go limp in their grasp. Sesshomaru stood and pulled the blanket up over his father�s head. �Come Inuyasha, the maid servants shall be in shortly to take father�s body to it�s final resting place.� Inuyasha nodded and reluctantly followed his older brother out of their father�s chambers. Sesshomaru padded wearily back to the chambers that he and Rin shared once more. He was so grateful that she had chosen to allow him back into her heart and her bed. Sesshomaru trudged into their chambers to find Rin sitting in the bed waiting up for him.
�Is he?�
�Gone? Hai.� Rin hung her head and her tears began leaking out of the corners of her brown eyes once again.
�Oh Sesshomaru, I can�t believe he�s gone!�
�I know darling.� Sesshomaru sank down onto the bed and lay his head in his mate�s lap. He felt her slender fingers immediately tangle into his thick silvery hair.
�Are you alright Sesshomaru?�
�I have everything I need right here in this room. I love you Rin.�
�I love you too Sesshomaru.� Down the hall in Inuyasha and Kagome�s chambers Inuyasha found that Kagome was waiting up for him as well.
�Inuyasha, is- She couldn�t even finish the sentence without a sob catching in her throat.
�Yes Kagome, father has passed.� Inuyasha rushed over to pull Kagome into his arms tightly.
�He was such a wonderful man! Why did he have to die?�
�Everyone must leave this world at some time Kagome. It was just father�s time to leave this world so that he could reunite with my mother.�
�Inuyasha are you alright?�
�No Kagome, I�m going to miss him very much. It�s almost like I can�t accept that he�s gone.� She cupped his face and stared into his warm pools of amber.
�Well then tonight I shall help you deal with losing your father.� Kagome leaned in and pressed her lips to his in a tender kiss. Inuyasha slid a hand up to the back of Kagome�s neck and roughly pulled her closer against him. Soon the two were yanking their clothing off and heading towards the bed. Kagome wrapped her legs tightly around Inuyasha�s waist and pressed her tiny body flush against his. Inuyasha fell to the bed pinning Kagome to the mattress beneath him.
Kagome moaned as Inuyasha began placing open mouthed kisses along her jaw line and neck. He quickly moved down to her chest and took one of her nipples into his mouth. Inuyasha sucked on it hungrily making Kagome�s back arch off the bed. �Inuyasha!� He grinned against her breast and then moved to drop feather light kisses across her flat stomach until he hovered above her womanhood. Kagome gave a strangled moan when Inuyasha parted her folds with his tongue gently.
