Sunlit Skies
A golden moment in time The rising of a new day Waking to find the world I am alive today I sit upon a grassy hill It is very bright The sky is clear of clouds It is going to be a nice day Night is forgotten The past is done Now I look to the future Under the sunlit skies *********************************************************************************************************** Today was the day that the Lords would be arriving. Sesshoumaru had set aside one document from the evening before and planned on finishing it today since none of the Lords would arrive until late afternoon especially Lord Ken since his castle was far east by the ocean. Sesshoumaru took his time writing the idiot for a day document he was going to have Kouga sign. Inuyasha had helped a little bit and found that Sesshoumaru indeed had a sense of humor which of course was a miracle to Inuyasha since he thought his husband had always been anally retentive. Inuyasha so wanted to be there when Kouga signed this document, but of course he would have to wait until after the meeting of the Lords which might take hours so Inuyasha figured although he might miss out on the prank he at least had a good part in insuring Kouga’s embarrassment and that cheered him up quite a bit. Thoren and Inuyasha sat in the study with Sesshoumaru as they played a game of checkers that Kagome had given Inuyasha so long ago. Doing such things brought about the good memories of Inuyasha’s late wife. In some ways he missed her, but he was glad that he was mated to Sesshoumaru. In the end things were better this way although he would not change his time with Kagome for a second. It was funny that so much had changed in the world over the years, but some things remained the same like their kimonos. There was really no need to change what worked although Inuyasha knew someday that the world would be filled with things called cars and planes with eventually humans taking over the government unless they were demons in disguise which is always possible. What was called progress was already occurring and eventually demons would be mythical beings that once lived alongside humans. Whether Sesshoumaru liked it or not, demons would become the minority and practically disappear altogether. Inuyasha wondered if someday he would be able to see Kagome again, but fact was if he did he would probably screw things up in her time. It was best that once the Higurashi shrine was built he would stay away from that place unless he was in disguise and that would take more than just a baseball cap to hide his ears. Inuyasha thought about telling Sesshoumaru about the future, but he thought it best to allow Sesshoumaru and Thoren to live through rose colored glasses before the human populations started taking over. It was already happening in the East and it was just a matter of time before the South, North, and West were taken over. Kouga would be the last to lose his lands to humans since the mountains of the north were pretty much inhabitable by humans especially in the winter time. So far in checkers Inuyasha was winning. They were both on the last few chips, but Inuyasha had more than Thoren. Usually Thoren beat him at most games, but since he was still fairly new to checkers Inuyasha had the upper hand. Jumping over three more pieces Inuyasha watched as Thoren frowned. “King me.” Inuyasha stated with a wide grin. Thoren did so and then made his move jumping over two of Inuyasha’s pieces only to realize his mistake too late. Inuyasha smirked and jumped over Thoren’s last playing piece. “HA! In your face Thoren! See, I am not that bad at games.” Thoren just rolled his eyes and shrugged. “So my Lord, are you finished yet?” Thoren asked as he and Inuyasha put the game away. “Almost.” Inuyasha snorted. “You don’t have to work that hard on something like an idiot for a day form. We all know Kouga will sign it. The jerk has no brains. I keep telling you that and you seem to be surprised by his stupidity. Perhaps he is rubbing off on you. You know that you can’t be around him too long or you’ll get a case of moronaphobia.’ “That is why I think it is stupid you are having a secret meeting because they are all going to forget everything you have said when they leave. You know the only person in that room that will have any brains in his head is Shippo and that is only because we helped raise the brat. I swear you have too much faith in people and it will be your undoing.” Sesshoumaru smirked since he did agree with his wife’s point of view, but Inuyasha did not have to do much of anything when it came to the politics of running the lands. Soon though both Inuyasha and Thoren would get to see it all and for the first time in their lives they wouldn’t be dressed as Ladies since it was foolish to wear such expensive female kimonos out in the wild. He just hoped Inuyasha would be pleased at what he had planned. Folding the document, Sesshoumaru placed his seal on the back using a gold wax this time to make the document seem more official. “You worry too much Inuyasha. Everything will be fine.” Sesshoumaru stated pulling Inuyasha onto his lap as he sat upon a pillow on the floor as the servants arrived with their breakfast. “Keh, whatever. It’s your life so don’t let me be the one to drag you down from your pedestal when you knock yourself off of it.” Thoren sat back enjoying a large red apple as he watched Sesshoumaru feed Inuyasha grapes. ************************************************************************************************** Kouga gathered his men together leaving his eldest son in charge of the pack while he was gone. Kouga wondered if taking these tiger demons with them would end up being a problem when he reached the castle since Kouga being a canine knew that Lord Sesshoumaru would most likely be unhappy that he had to deal with cat demons again although these tiger demons seemed to be less hostile than the Panther tribe. There was also the fact that Kouga had a large tribute of furs from the animals that they had killed and eaten to give to Lord Sesshoumaru due to the fact he had hunted on the Western lands during this last winter so they would be traveling at a fairly slow rate. When Kouga reached the mountain range where the tigers were staying he told his men to wait for him. There was no point in everyone going with him since they would just have to backtrack and there was no time for such nonsense if they wanted to get to the castle by late afternoon. Amare woke up his people since he could smell wolf in the air and it was getting stronger by the second. Letting out a roarZesiro and Kehinde awoke unwrapping themselves from their mates. The two females Vakasa and Themba stretched then followed their mates out of the small caves that they had been sleeping in. Only young Adofo was still sleeping since it had been a tough trek to get this far for such a young tiger cub, but Zesiro shook the boy awake since it was time to leave again. Kouga immerged from the pathway that led to this secluded part of his lands. Kouga could smell the boar meat that the group of tigers had indulged in the night before noticing that there were only bones left. Even the fur had been devoured by these cat demons. “It seems you did well for yourselves last night. Boars are over running a lot of this territory during the nice weather so if you wish to hunt another before we leave you could do so. I am certain one boar would not fill all of you up.” Amare thought about this for a moment and then sent Zesiro and Kehinde for a quick hunt hoping that they would come back quickly. Amare didn’t want to take too much advantage of the Wolf Lord’s hospitality. It was generous enough that he had allowed them to stay one night in peace rather than forcing them out like he could have done leaving them with no shelter or food for the night. “Thank you for your generosity my Lord.” Amare stated softly as he sat down gracefully onto one of the rocks. Kouga watched the tiger cautiously before he approached him feeling almost insignificant next to such a tall well built creature. Kouga had to admit that up close the tiger demon was even more beautiful than before. If it wasn’t for the fact that these creatures most likely hunted humans and that food was scarce during the winter months Kouga would have allowed them to stay. “Might I ask you why you hunt humans?” Kouga stated softly. Amare smiled. “It is not we who hunt humans, it is humans have hunted us and we grew tired of being killed by such crude filthy little creatures. None of us have the stomach to eat one of their kind although if we were starving we would do so without a second thought.’ “All we want is to be as far from humans as possible. Not a single one of my kind provoked the killing of our species. It was those humans that worshiped us that felt the need to become stronger by using our pelts, teeth, and claws to make themselves seem powerful.’ “At one point shaman came to try to tame us. The humans would ride upon our backs like we were their pets. No, I will not be merciful to their kind any longer. My mate and cub were killed by these seemingly weak creatures and they will always be our enemy. I cannot forgive them. I lost my home because of humans and I will not watch my small group of tigers ever succumb to death by a human hand.” Kouga frowned. Now he was uncertain that Sesshoumaru or Inuyasha would allow them to stay in Japan especially since Inuyasha was part human. “Well I am sorry for your plight, but here in Japan we do not want trouble. The Lord I am taking you to has a hanyou for a wife and I fear that any hostility towards Lady Inuyasha would end in your demise.” Amare tipped his head to the side in curiosity. “What is a hanyou?” Kouga explained that Inuyasha was a half demon and that he cared deeply for certain humans that were in a village not far from the castle. “I see. How many of these hanyous exist in this place?” Kouga stated there were quite a few since killing a hanyou just because of what they were born as was a crime punishable by death. In fact many demons were starting to procreate with humans and hanyous causing the population of hanyous to rise over the last decade. “Well I would not kill a hanyou. They have demon blood in their bodies do they not?” Kouga sighed. “Yes, but once a month for some of these hanyous they become fully human. If such a thing were to occur you would not know the difference between a normal human and a hanyou. That is partially why killing humans is a crime in these lands and with the latest growth of human populations there are more of them than ever before. It will be difficult to avoid them.” Amare sighed. “All we want is peace and a place to live away from them. Is there no such place?” Kouga scratched his head. “I don’t know of any myself, but that is why I am taking you to see the Inu No Tashio Lord Sesshoumaru. He most likely will know more about such places than I would.” Amare nodded. Perhaps it was a mistake that they had come here in the first place. It was a long way back across the ocean and it seemed so unfair that they had come so far only to find these lands may be uninhabitable. Amare was afraid his hopes were in vain for a better future for his people. “Do these humans hunt demons?” Amare asked softly. Kouga couldn’t lie to the poor guy so he decided to answer him as best he could. “Some humans hunt demons here. Usually priests and priestesses, but if you don’t bother them they usually won’t come looking for you. These ‘holy’ people are not like normal humans since most humans are afraid of us. It is humans with purifying powers that you gotta look out for. Demon hunters usually hunt malicious demons which are low level and easy to remove. Their powers can kind of burn a bit, but for high level demons most of us aren’t affected by purification. It is rare that we end up running into a high level priest or priestess, but none of them come up here.’ “Demons hunt demons in Japan as well, but it is usually to show power and to see if they can defeat you to become stronger. Most of the time though, lower demons bother humans which makes things tough on us who don’t do anything of the sort so we just try to avoid humans most of the time and since we are high up in the mountains we rarely have altercations. Unless we are out tracking down food you won’t see us anywhere except up here on the cliffs.’ “If it were not for the fact food is scarce around these parts in the winter I would let you stay here as long as you didn’t cause trouble for me.’ “I have hanyous in my tribe and so do the other wolf demons along these mountain ranges so we wouldn’t want you to kill our humans and hanyous even if you did stay here. You would have to deal with them too since anyone who comes up here belongs to me since I am the Lord of these parts. It seems to me that you don’t want to deal with any people really not that I blame you. I just don’t think things would work out for you here.” Amare nodded in understanding. Soon Zesiro and Kehinde returned with a large boar in their jaws after transforming into their true forms padding up to Amare who pet their heads. “I’ll let you guys eat and then we gotta get moving.” Kouga stated as he walked back to meet up with his pack members. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
