“It’s going to be fine,” InuYasha said taking her hands before she could attempt to straighten her chihaya for what felt like the hundredth time. “You are the Great Miko, Lady of the house of the youkai no taishou, and you are going to go in there, be your amazing self and show them all exactly why you were born to be both.”
She laughed a little, her eyes shining. “You are so getting lucky when we get home.”
He smirked. “Keh, that was gonna happen anyway and we both know it.”
Her cheeks warmed but her smile only widened. “Okay, so that’s true, but you know that what I really meant was that I love you and thank you for believing in me.”
He slipped his hand behind her neck and drew her into a soft kiss. “I love you too.” As they stood there, foreheads pressed together a soft knock came at the door. “You ready now?”
Her eyes met his. “I am, even if I wish you could stand with me.”
“I won’t be far,” he reminded her. “And a part of me will be with you, always.”
She nodded and he went to the door, opening it for her. Waiting outside was a youkai she had never seen before but that she knew InuYasha and Sesshomaru trusted as he would be alone with her when escorting her to the room where the mediation would take place.
He bowed one hand closed into a fist against his chest. “InuYasha-sama. Miko-sama, if you would come with me, please.”
With one last glance at her hanyou she stepped out into the hall. As she was led down the maze of corridors she made sure to keep her back straight and her head high. InuYasha was right. She was the Great Miko and it was not just her job, but her calling. She hadn’t always been certain in her ability to be a good leader but she had always devoted herself to the attempt, and even she couldn’t deny that it finally seemed to be paying off in spite of the situation and the enemy they were now faced with. What she was doing here and now was important and she would not let anyone endanger the people and the peace she had been working so hard for if she could prevent it.
At last they stopped before a simple wooden door, though she could feel the weight of an unfamiliar magic laid upon it. Her escort bowed as he slid open the door. As she stepped inside the great room she also stepped into character, the countenance of her position firmly in place.
The first thing she noticed was that there were three other doors, presumably so that all parties would not be faced with each other before the mediation began. At the far end of the room four formidable youkai, all at least vaguely familiar to her sat at a low table on a dais. Behind them, higher still sat Sesshomaru. InuYasha was with him, standing back and to the right. For a moment their eyes met.
‘Give ‘em hell, beautiful.’
It took all her years of training not to flash him a grin as she moved forward and took her place. She bowed to both sides and then the front, before kneeling in the center of the room. He might not be standing beside her, but he was with her and no amount of distance could change that.
Sesshomaru stood. “A challenge has been issued against Lord Tatsuya of the dragons, and it has been affirmed by Ryuunosuke who makes rightful claim through the bloodline of his mother Lady Chieko. Who brings us this challenge?”
She took a deep breath. “I do. Higurashi Kagome, Great Miko.”
“And what right does a miko have to make such a challenge?” Tatsuya demanded.
“She is bound by the covenant to one of youkai blood,” Mamoru of the bears said. “It is her right to be heard.”
“Bound to a half breed who by law could not make such a challenge,” another of the presiding lords said with a sneer.
“Lord Takahiro, refer again to this one’s brother with such disrespect and I will be forced to let him demonstrate that he is as much our honored father’s son as I,” Sesshomaru said. “She issues her challenge not as the mate of my brother but as the Great Miko, this Sesshomaru finds it distinction enough. It is decided. Lord Tatsuya, name those you have chosen to take part this day.”
“I call upon Lord Takahiro of the Habu and Lady Miki of the Saru,” Tatsuya said.
“And you Ryuunosuke, who have you chosen?” Sesshomaru prompted.
“I call upon Lord Mamoru of the Bears and Lord Keito of the Crane,” Ryuunosuke replied with a bow.
“Takahiro-sama, Miki-sama, Mamoru-sama and Keito-sama you have been called to serve, your duty to decide first if the challenge brought before you is a righteous one. Should it be so then yours will be the burden of deciding whether or not Tatsuya-sama shall remain leader of the dragons,” Sesshomaru said. “Miko-sama, present your grievance and be heard.”
Kagome swallowed hard and then lifted her chin. “My name is Higurashi Kagome, but until recently I’m sure I was merely the Great Miko, an enemy to all youkai, and yet now I stand before you both mate and mother to one of youkai blood. As such it is even more important to me than ever that the truth be known and that the one truly responsible for five centuries of bloodshed between our peoples is held accountable.”
Her heart was pounding in her chest but she forced herself to continue. “It is imperative that we work together to find the one who calls himself Naraku. He would call himself a hanyou though he understands nothing of what it truly means to be youkai and who would see all of us destroyed.”
“Change is hard,” she said quietly. “I’m sure everyone here has suffered a personal loss because of this war and the blame for that rests squarely at the feet of the one who started it all those years ago. Though I believe that to do nothing harms us all, I understand it and would not presume to tell anyone that they had to fight. However, I will say that it is another matter entirely to attempt to align oneself with one who so cowardly harms the innocent, and who would kidnap women and children instead of facing his opponents with honor.”
She turned her head then, looking directly at the leader of the dragons. “You commit a great crime against your clan by seeking to aid Naraku and put all of us, human and youkai in even greater danger with your actions. You would start a civil war, spill the blood of your own for what? A man’s character can be judged by the company he keeps, so what does that say about you? You are a disgrace and do not deserve the opportunity to lead the innocent among you to their deaths.”
A small plume of smoke escaped from the nostrils of the dragon youkai and she could feel his hate for her with each pulse of his youki, but she would not be intimidated. She looked back to the front of the room and bowed, hoping she’d done enough, said enough to achieve the desired result.
InuYasha’s soft chuckle echoed through her mind. ‘Damn he’s fucking pissed. You didn’t pull any punches, did you my mate?’
‘So I did okay then?’
She could feel how much he loved her and how proud he was as he replied. ‘You were amazing. They won’t have any choice but to accept your challenge as righteous after that without looking completely biased.’
“Lords, and Lady, have you any questions before I call for a vote?” Sesshomaru asked.
“Does she speak true?” Lady Miki asked. “Have you spoken with this Naraku to any purpose?”
Tatsuya glowered at Kagome. “I have, but-”
“You may give your accounting should her challenge be found valid,” Sesshomaru said, cutting him off. “Are there any further questions?” When no one spoke up Sesshomaru continued, “A vote then. If you wish to affirm the challenge of leadership before us as justified do so now.”
“Aye,” Mamoru-sama said with a nod, his eyes meeting hers briefly.
The tightness in her chest eased as both Keito-sama and Miki-sama made a similar response. Finally and though he was clearly unhappy to do so, Takahiro-sama also agreed and she let out the breath she had been holding. Now she only had to hope the rest of the mediation went as well.
“Very well,” Sesshomaru said. “Lord Tatsuya of the dragons, the challenge of leadership against you has been accepted unanimously. Now you will be given the opportunity to defend yourself.”
Tatsuya stood and bowed to those who would decide his fate and then to Ryuunosuke. As his eyes fell on her they narrowed and he very deliberately turned back towards the front of the room without so much as inclining his head. She got the impression that it was a very serious insult as InuYasha growled both outloud and in her head.
“InuYasha,” Sesshomaru said and her hanyou quieted but the look on his face remained murderous. “Tatsuya-sama, I will remind you that protocol requires a show of respect to the complainant as well, and that disrespect of this one’s imouto will not be tolerated, even if the reckoning for it must come later outside these proceedings.”
‘He called me his little sister,’ she exclaimed through her bond to her mate.
‘It’s what you are. Bastard is lucky I’m not allowed to kick his ass right now.’
“I mean no disrespect Sesshomaru-sama, but I am confused,” Tatsuya said. “You said she is not here as a member of your house, and yet she is allowed to interfere in the business of youkai and now you call her sister. Surely you see why you cannot have it both ways and so she never should have been allowed to make this challenge at all.”
“I see no such thing,” Sesshomaru told him. “Do you accept that a human bound by the covenant, a rare and sacred bond, which is to be cherished and protected has a right to be heard as one who is equally affected by our laws?”
Tatsuya frowned. “Most certainly, but-”
“Do you also accept that the Great Miko is not merely a woman but the leader of her people and as the arbiter of their laws and how they will intersect with ours in that regard in a position equal to my own?” Sesshomaru asked. “That her decisions as the Great Miko have immeasurable impact on both humans and youkai?”
“You would proclaim her, a human, your equal!” Tatsuya protested. “She is nothing but a human who-”
“The rest of that word leaves your mouth and you die, here and now. I swear it on my youki,” InuYasha said, his tone quiet but as chilling as she had ever heard. “Say whatever the hell you want about me, but one more act of disrespect aimed at my mate and it will be your last.”
“Tatsuya-sama, the matter is settled,” Sesshomaru said with an icy edge to his voice. “Two issues are separate. If any here wish dispute my word in this as law then make your challenge against me now if you dare. Perhaps I will be merciful and kill you quickly, but you have exhausted my patience. Now speak in your defense or sit and be silent so that we might continue.”
Another plume of smoke let the dragon’s nostrils and he gave the shortest bow he thought he could get away with in her direction. “While the miko-sama, speaks true, that I have indeed met with Naraku, it was for the sake of my people, for the sake of all of us. He is not the monster she would have you believe. The real truth is that she is in possession of something that belongs to him and he simply wishes it be returned.”
“Miko-sama, your reply,”’ Sesshomaru prompted.
“You are a liar and so is Naraku,” Kagome said. “He kidnapped me, threatened to rip my children from my belly with his claws not because I have something that belongs to him, but because he is evil. Have you forgotten the children he held hostage at the New National Theater or the attack by lesser youkai on the outskirts of the city and then in our streets? He has had us killing each other for five hundred years because he was jealous and angry that Kikyou and InuYasha loved each other. He is a coward who turned himself into an abomination all because he couldn’t have the woman he wanted.”
“She shows her true colors at last,” Tatsuya sneered. “She calls hanyou an abomination.”
InuYasha looked at her with one eyebrow raised. ‘What the hell? He can’t be that stupid, can he?’
Kagome laughed. “Seriously? Do I even need to dignify that with a response? Most here know already that I think that hanyou are beautiful. The blending of human and youkai through love. It proves that for all our differences in the most important ways we are the same. My mate is a hanyou. My son is a hanyou. Naraku is not. He is merely the unnatural amalgamation of an evil human with youkai.”
“Would you also then deny that you have a power artifact that belongs to Naraku?” Tatsuya questioned with a sneer.
“Absolutely I will deny it because it’s not true,” Kagome replied firmly. “The fact is I do have such an item, but as it was born inside my body it most certainly doesn’t belong to him. And before you try to twist things further, Sesshomaru-sama was made aware that I have it as soon as I realized what it was. I do not keep secrets from my mate and his loyalty to his brother is second only to his loyalty to me and our children, as it should be.”
She appraised him with a neutral expression, her miko face as her mother had called it. It was another part of her armor. “Perhaps Tatsuya-sama, you have been deceived.Though I think it more likely you hoped to deceive all of us. Did you really think I would be cowered by a mean look or a puff of smoke?”
‘That’s my mate. As fierce as she is beautiful.’
‘As if I could ever be afraid of him when my mate is ten times the youkai he is.’
“This is farce!” Tatsuya snapped. This was not going the way he had expected. How could his own people side against him with a miko? It was unthinkable. “It is my word against hers.”
“That remains to be seen,” Sesshomaru said. “If you are finished…”
Tatsuya gave three quick bows before returning to his seat. There was no way they were really going to decide against him, not when that meant taking the word of a miko over the words of one of their own kind. It just wasn’t done, and once this was over he would put the whore and her half breed bastard in their place.
At Sesshomaru’s prompting Ryuunosuke stood. He bowed deeply to both her and the presiding Lords and Lady and then gave a short bow towards Tatsuya. “If I may, Sesshomaru-sama I wish to allow our witness to speak for herself.”
‘Witness!’
‘First, I’m hearing about it too. I wouldn’t have kept that from you.’
‘I know. I just, I’m going to be having a little chat with your brother about keeping things from us, since he definitely wouldn’t like it if we had kept something like this from him.’
‘Keh, you and me both.’
The door behind Ryuunosuke and his two men opened to admit a female dragon youkai. She was delicate and breathtakingly beautiful. Her floor length hair was a deep Egyptian blue and her eyes were the color of emeralds. The paleness of her youki spoke of her youth and Kagome frowned as she sensed something dark clinging to her. Suddenly the girl froze in place, her hands at her throat, her mouth opening and closing without sound or breath escaping.
“She can’t breathe!” Kagome cried as she jumped to her feet. She ran over to the girl who had sunk to her knees and reached out with her power, jerking her hand back as something lashed out at her. “InuYasha, there’s something, someone doing this to her.”
He knelt beside her. “What do you need me to do?”
Kagome refocused her power and ran it along the poor young woman’s youki once more. “Her back. I need to see.”
He didn’t hesitate to slice open the kimono she wore with his claws. “Son of a bitch!”
“What is that?” she asked as she looked at the hideous black marking that covered her back.
“Forbidden magic,” Sesshomaru said. “One found guilty of using it would receive an instant death sentence. It is a slave brand that forces obedience, even unto death.”
Kagome was horrified and she didn’t hesitate. She gathered her power and thrust it at the evil magic that was killing this poor girl. It fought against her, but she didn’t relent, couldn’t. She felt InuYasha wrap himself and his youki around her, laying his hands over hers as she held them out over the young dragon. As the brand lashed out at her, rising from the girl’s skin and taking the form of a black dragon she grabbed onto InuYasha’s power. Several of those gathered gasped as a pair of great white dogs made of youkai and reiki manifested and together tore the black dragon in half causing it to vanish into a shower of iridescent dust.
The young youkai drew in a sucking breath as she sobbed, her entire body shaking. She threw herself at Kagome, hugging her tightly. “Thank you, miko-sama.”
‘Well done my mate.’
‘It wasn’t just me. The form was yours. Maybe we should pretend we knew we could do that to get back at Sesshomaru for keeping her a secret.’
In her head he chuckled. ‘I’ll play along with that.’ Then he sobered. ‘Damn, poor fucking kid. Who knows what kind of shit this sick bastard did to her.’
“Ryuunosuke-sama, I will not wait for an explanation for this,” Sesshomaru said.
“I had no idea,” Ryuunosuke said quickly. “Had I known… She came to my house seeking protection having fled the royal household. She said nothing of being branded, on my youki, I swear it.”
“What’s your name?” Kagome asked gently.
“Chinatsu, miko-sama,” she replied her voice barely more than a whisper.
“Chinatsu-chan, I can’t even imagine what you’ve been through or how you are feeling right now,” Kagome said. “But I promise you that you don’t have to be afraid, not anymore. You’ve been so strong already, please try to be strong for just a little bit longer.”
Chinatsu stared at her lap as she shook her head. “I’m not strong. The things I have done, that have been done to me…”
Kagome laid a hand over hers as she twisted them in her lap. “It wasn’t your fault, none of it. I know that right now it doesn’t feel that way, but I hope that with time you will be able to take that to heart. Until then don’t you think it might help to see the one responsible punished.” The little dragon’s eyes darted towards Tatsuya just for an instant and suddenly she knew. “I won’t let him…” she paused taking InuYasha’s hand. “We won’t let him hurt you, not ever again, I promise.”
Slowly she nodded. “I-It was he, Tatsuya-sama. He took me into his house when I was orphaned when I was only six, and at twelve when I bled for the first time he branded me and commanded me to his bed.”
“Lies!” Tatsuya roared. “This is all nothing but a set up to strip me of what is rightfully mine. You have no proof!”
“You are the liar!” Chinatsu screamed. “You said you would protect me! You hurt me over and over again and allowed others to do the same, but I stayed. I stayed until you that monster have me. He who poisoned my womb as he did things to me that I shall never speak of to anyone, things that had me begging for death, and finally I fled hoping to be killed in the process. I heard you plotting with him against Sesshomaru-sama and the great miko.”
“More lies,” he said dismissively. “Words mean nothing coming from one such as you.”
“Don’t listen to him,” Kagome told her. “Just tell us what you heard.”
Chinatsu glanced at Tatsuya again and then met her eyes. “I-I didn’t hear everything. I-I-I was afraid…”
“I understand,” Kagome assured her. “Anything you can tell us will be a great help. Even if it seems unimportant.”
“They spoke of you miko-sama of ways they might try to get around the wards at your shrine, or ways to lure you away from there and from each other,” she said. “Tatsuya-sama told him that you gave birth not to one child but two. Um, there was something about a jewel and he told him of this place. That’s all I know. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, not for anything,” Kagome told her.
“You cannot seriously believe this,” Tatsuya said. “She is nothing, no one and I am leader of the dragons.”
Kagome stood up, turning as she did so, her reiki a blazing fire around her as it reflected her righteous fury. She felt her mate step up and take his place beside her, his youki blending with her power, promising that should she intend to go to war with the unworthy one before them she would not go alone.
“Sesshomaru-sama, I ask that a decision be made,” she said, never taking her eyes off Tatsuya.
“Before a vote is taken, know this I name Ryuunosuke interim leader of the dragons, as Tatsuya will be taken into custody so that the charge of having used the dorei soutei can be investigated,” Sesshomaru said. “I will be speaking personally to every member of your house and the truth will be known. I offer you this one chance to act with honor. Admit your crimes, abdicate and I will grant you a quick death.”
“I have done nothing wrong!” Tatsuya protested with a shrill and more smoke.
“Very well,” Sesshomaru said unimpressed by the display. “You will vote now. We shall begin with Mamoru-sama.”
“I call for the deposition of Tatsuya of the dragons,” Mamoru said, his voice a deep rumble that spoke of his fury.
“As do I,” Keito agreed.
“My great-grandmother wore the dorei soutei, placed on her by the Lord of the Saru at the time. A thousand years she bore the mark and eventually became with child,” the Lady Miki said. “When her daughter was born and she saw the branding on her child, she knew what had to be done. When next he forced himself on her she tore out his throat. His last act was to will her to death, but she fought against it, and managed to survive until he died and the binding was broken. Many called for her death, but it was then that a daiyoukai of incredible strength who had begun to rise to power declared the use of such dark magic against nature itself and he backed that declaration with devastating force.”
Kagome slipped her hand into InuYasha’s ‘She's talking about your father isn’t she?’
‘Yeah,’ he replied. ‘I bet that bastard had no idea of her history with my family when he picked her. The Saru stay to themselves in the northern mountains. He probably assumed it was because they dislike humans or us dogs, or both.’
“It matters not if you laid the mark,” Miki-sama continued. “It occurred in your house to one in your care whom you owed your protection. Either you sensed the binding upon her, and did nothing, or you did not and are incompetent. You are not worthy. I add my voice to those who would see you deposed.”
“Takahiro-sama, what say you?” Sesshomaru prompted.
“I refrain from casting my vote,” the Habu youkai answered. “It does not matter as it is already decided. Though I protest the right of one such as her to cast judgement on any youkai and I will not consider the dorei soutei as no proof has been presented other than the word of a child.”
“Hn, then it is fortunate as you say that your vote matters not,” Sesshomaru said. “Seldom do fools have anything of value to say in any case. Tatsuya, you have been found unworthy by a council of your peers. You are hereby stripped of all rank and standing. Ryuunosuke, you are to be named Lord of the Dragons, by the bloodline of your mother Chieko-sama I find your claim to the title valid and true. I caution you to show more honor than your predecessor.”
“This isn’t right!” Tatsuya protested as several guards entered from all sides. “All of you will be sorry! I will bathe in your blood oh great Lord of the Dogs and I will correct the mistake that was made when that half breed was allowed to draw his first breath.”
InuYasha snorted. “Big talk from a cowardly piece of shit who has to make a woman into a slave to get her into his bed.”
“Mock me while you can, cur,” Tatsuya sneered. “Naraku-sama has big plans for your whore of miko. I shall enjoy watching him take her apart. Perhaps he will allow me to spend some time with her as a reward.”
“I warned you didn’t?” InuYasha snarled, his eyes flashing red, and the markings on his cheeks beginning to appear, darkening with each step he took towards the dragon.
Chaos erupted as InuYasha seemed to disappear from beside her and reappear right in front of Tatsuya, he had moved so quickly. She just couldn’t quite make sense of what was going on as the two who had stood with Tatsuya and several of the guards also moved to action. One of those with the former leader of the dragon headed straight for Chinatsu, who was cowering alone, Ryuunosuke and his men having moved to intercept the traitorous guards alongside Sesshomaru and Mamoru-sama.
She hurried over to the girl. “Don’t worry. I’ll protect you, just like I promised.”
She held her bow in one hand and her dagger in the other, waiting to see what he would do as he stopped several steps away from them both. Theirs eyes met and she could feel the intent in his youki, see what he planned to do. Her hand tightened around the smooth wood and focused her power. Time seemed to slow as the everything went still and quiet inside her. The dragon roared, and she was vaguely aware of Chinatsu as she shrilled in terror, but she was not afraid. She spun up her bow, just as the dragon released his fire.
It failed to even warm the air around her as it collided with her reiki. His face showed clearly his disbelief. He roared again and in one fluid motion she drew her dagger, charged it with her power and threw into the heart of the one who would have killed her and the innocent she was protecting. She didn’t take pleasure in killing, but he’d given her no choice and she would not feel guilty for defending herself or for defending the life of another.
The room was now thick with smoke, the smell of blood heavy in the air. She could feel InuYasha. He was just toying with the dragon, making him hurt for his insult to her honor and for his threats against her. The youkai in him was relishing having the blood of his enemy upon his claws and though it was not her way she understood his need and would never condemn him for it. It was almost over. Soon all of the traitors would be subdued or dead.
She had complete faith in her mate to defeat Tatsuya and turned her full attention to Chinatsu. “It’s going to be alright.”
Then she felt it, just a tingle along her spine, not her reiki but an intuition, but it was too late. A sharp pain as a pair of long fangs sank into her leg, and the fire as venom started to burn its way up her leg.
“Kagome-sama!” Chinatsu cried.
She grabbed the habu behind it’s head to pull it off of her but it held on. ‘InuYasha.’
Tatsuya was dead before she’d even called out to him. He felt it the moment she’d been bitten and that she needed him took priority over punishing the one who had dared to speak of her in such a way. He went to her, pulling open the vipers jaws with ease and then tearing its head from its body before flinging it away.
She was doing her best to stay calm and not to give into the pain as she took slow but jerking breaths. He tore off her sleeve and then tore it again into a stip that he could use to bind her leg above the bite. He pushed up her hakama horrified by what he saw. Clearly that had been no ordinary snake as he could see the venom trail on her skin already creeping above her knee. He quickly tied the cloth as tightly as he dared on her thigh. Already she was sweating and looked a little green. That bastard Takahiro had to have had something to do with this and he would pay for that later, once she was well.
He swore as the lines on her skin began to slip past the binding on her leg, more slowly and thinner, but still spreading. “Damn it. Hang in there Kagome. You’re going to okay.”
She choked as she started to jerk and he quickly rolled her onto her side where she began to vomit onto the floor. Shit. He didn’t know what to do. Clearly she needed medical attention but they were so far away from anyone who could help her and who knew what kind of fucked up magic might have been used on that habu.
“Sesshomaru stop playing and get you ass over here now!” he snarled.
‘Hold on beautiful. Fight for me and for our pups.’
Her voice was a whimper in his heads as she failed to form words and spoke in inu on instinct since he hadn’t had a chance to teach her much yet. ‘Trying. Hurts.’
He smoothed her hair. He of course could feel her pain but as a hanyou pain simply did not affect him the same way as it did her. ‘I know. Be strong just a little longer. I love you so fucking much. Stay with me.’
He felt Sesshomaru come up behind him and looked over his shoulder. “It wasn’t a youkai but it wasn’t a normal snake either. The venom is spreading too fast and it too strong. Maybe yours could fight it?”
“If I thought it could do so without killing her I would of course make the attempt,” Sesshomaru said. “But I have not the control of it as one for whom it is more natural to have such poison.”
“There has to be something,” InuYasha said. “I can’t lose her. I won’t.”
“I-I-InuYasha-sama,” Chinatsu said quietly. “M-maybe I can help. I am not born of fire, but of the sea. I-I cannot promise I will be able to save her, but that I would try with all that is in me.”
“A water dragon?” InuYasha breathed.
He’d never before seen one and never expected to as they were rarely seen on land, being weakened by the loss of connection to their element. No wonder her youki was so pale. If one wanted the healing or cleansing of a sea dragon you had to go to them and even then they were hesitant to involve themselves outside their kind, and that included other dragons. How the hell has she ended up on her own on land?
“Please, do what you can,” he told her. “If you save her, I will be forever indebted to you.”
She shook her head. “She freed me, saved my life. There will be no debt between us.”
“What do you need?” InuYasha asked.
“Water,” she replied. “As much as can be found as quickly as possible.”
“InuYasha there is a lake less than five kilometers to the east,” Sesshomaru said. “Go. I will finish dealing with what has happened here and follow as soon as I am able. Ryuunosuke-sama, please assist my brother in getting both his mate and Chinatsu-san there as quickly as possible.”
“Of course, Sesshomaru-sama,” the new Lord of the dragons said with a bow. “Come young one. Are you able to fly?” Chinatsu shook her head. “Worry not then and you shall borrow my wings.”
InuYasha gathered Kagome up into his arms, not liking at all how slowly her heart was beating, until he realized that it was probably a good thing. He reached for her with his mind to find her all but gone, and suddenly how still and quiet she had gotten made sense. She’d withdrawn from herself and gone into a deep meditative state to do what she could to slow down the flow of blood in her body and the venom with it.
“That’s my girl. Just a little longer,” he said as he started to run.
