The long, moist eyelids untied, revealing the blurry blue eyes. Anna felt a weight over her body, and soon noticed it was the sleeping Rin, holding in one of her hands a wet cloth. Paying more attention, the western lass realized some rags were covering her forehead, her neck and even her arms. So she cautiously pull them off, trying to not awake the little girl resting upon her legs.
"You are awake at last!" the reptilian voice rang like a bell into her ears.
"Toad face..."A brief chuckle sounded from Annabelle's dry lips "Where are we?" She looked around, seeing high trees covered by moss and vines, the earth was soft and dark, a dense clear mist hovered the landscape. Above colored leaves it was possible to see the top of a mountain.
"You are causing too much trouble to lord Sesshomaru!" Jaken sank his stick on the humid soil and then crossed his arms.
"What are you talking about?" She massaged the corners of her forehead, the yokai's squeaky voice was making her head ache.
"Oh well! Because of you, lord Sesshomaru had to change his route just to find herbs to cease your fever, stupid woman!" He pointed a finger on her face "Honestly, I don't understand why my master is losing his precious time with two humans and... Ouch!" suddenly something hit his head, forming a bump on it's top that made the little hat lift up. "Oh, Lord Sesshomaru!" His big eyes shone devoted.
There was the daiyokai, holding in his fist a bunch of several plants. He came closer silently and leaned in front of the woman, offering her what he has brought. "Here".
"Thank you" Anna caught the leaves carefully, without disturbing the little girl's slumber. "Basil..." she smiled, smelling them "and...mint?"
Jaken, receiving a single look of his master, immediately understood where his duty lied and even not willing, he walked towards Arurun, took off a bowl from the bag hanging on it's saddle, and then he went through the woods. After a while, the little yokai came back bringing that recipient overflowing with water. As he was clumsily trying to move faster, some drops of the liquid spilled.
"Do you know what to do with it?" Sesshomaru asked her, resting against the nearest tree trunk.
"Yes..." Annabelle carefully laid Rin down on the soft earth and caught the bowl in hands. "Thank you" the lass showed her gratitude once again, then she got closer to the fire pit, squeezed some of that herbs in one hand and tossed them into the water she left to boil. "I didn't expect a guy like you... — I mean — a lord like you would know which plant is appropriate to heal a human illness". She gazed at him.
"Watch your manners, woman!" Jaken scolded her for being so informal on treating his master.
"Easy, toad face!" The foreigner smiled playfully, masking the anguish within "I had no intention to sound offensive, I'm just curious".
"Your fever was so high that you could have died if you were an ordinary human" The daiyokai explained serenely.
"Was Rin by my side all this time?" Anna felt her chest tightening, emotional, while gazing at the sleeping child's heavy breathing. Although no confirmation came through words, the way both lord and his greenish vassal contemplated the little girl has been enough of an answer.
"There is something different about you now" Sesshomaru pointed out, surprising her.
"Why do you say so?" She got embarrassed and her gaze inevitably lowered, running from his crystal fulvous sight. Yes, consternation was evident in the shadow blurring those blue pools of hers. Annabelle couldn't stop thinking of an odd discussion inside her conscience. Was it a dream? Was it the jewel's power exerting it's influence? She couldn't feel sure if that meeting was real, but Naraku had that power, right? He probably used the same ways to control Sango's little brother, or anyone of his servants... and now, finally her time has come. Anna should be his newest victim of an arduous attempt of manipulating. And, still, how could she forget the peculiar light inside those bloody eyes? Belle feared she was letting herself be deluded, yet something was screaming deep within her soul that there was sincerity on the spider hanyo's proposal. As the idea consumed her thoughts, she felt a huge pressure into her chest, it was her yearnings coming to life, growing like weeds. Many divagations were mixing, making a knot in her head, singing into her broken core. Her spirit ached, pleading for some comfort. There was a time when Annabelle believed she didn't want to forget any past experience, for her own existence would be ended at the moment her conscience would deliver itself to the void, and then nothing else would make sense anymore. However, an abrupt change was twirling her believes, ripping them out as they were petals to be taken off, and suddenly the White Rose seemed not to care about existing in this world. Any joy she had lived looked so ephemeral if compared with all her sufferings, that those good memories became turning into foggy images, like far away reveries she was uncertain that one day belonged to her, but the pain of knowing that pieces resided inside of her, the smashing feeling of missing, of not being able to rewind the time, made of her a cursed being somehow. As long as she had a conscience, she would never be free of pain, nor from guilt, for all her life's experiences just turned impossible to find a way to be happy.
This is how he must feel. Anna came to conclude, while that sense of pity seemed to squeeze her heart. Naraku also wants to forget who he is and what he had done, because the burden is too oppressive... She was drinking the healing tea, although her eyes reflected the dancing flames, all the lass could focus on was that amount of thoughts pounding endlessly. Now I understand how it is, Naraku... the turquoise globes went from the fire to the empty bowl. To believe it is better surrendering to the void, than to have to live carrying the burden of your own existence.

The Wind Sorceress has been isolated in a tiny room for hours, her arms and legs were properly chained, her crimson eyes stuck at the dirty floor, widened as they were still seeing the horrendous original form of her creator. She could never forget that earlier sight, when sneaking around the castle she ended up descending the stairs to the basement, where she found out that mount of several yokai pieces, and at the center was Naraku's head, connected to those parts by his backbone. As it wasn't enough the hateful hanyo being harshly observing her for that last attempt on betraying him, now his fury should be immeasurable, not only for Kagura's inconvenience, but for every little thing that have been going wrong recently. More than never, she felt that anytime soon her life would just slip from her fingers, in a single pound of her chest. Sweat was pouring down her forehead, uniting the wet bangs to her pale skin, her whole body shivered with chills.
It's just a matter of time and I know... I know he's going to kill me! Her eyes closed tight and her lips constricted.
The sound of the door sliding made her tremble. From the darkness an albino yokai appeared, holding her spherical mirror. She calmly went down the narrow wooden steps, so she could stay at the same level of her younger sister.
"Kanna?" Kagura murmured. Did the bastard send her to kill me in his place then? Although she was terrified, an ironic chuckle sounded through her teeth. "Go on then, end it already..." She said proudly, yet instead of receiving the expected final blow, the chains around her joints simply dropped. The delicate body fell into the floor, making it's rotten old wood snap.
"Naraku is offering you one more chance, Kagura. It is better not to waste it" Said the creature with a childish look, yet not a trace of emotion in her features.
"What does he want from me now?" She asked, resigned to comply any command, as it was her best option.

"Miss Anaberu, are you feeling better?" Rin asked as soon as she saw her friend waking up underneath the soft sparkle of a new day's sun.
"I've never been better, little Rin" after sitting and stretching her arms, Anna answered while showing a tenuous smile.
"You look different though..." a bit worried, the girl knelt beside the foreigner and received a gentle smooth in her hair.
"It's just your impression, little one" she passed one arm around Rin's side, giving the kid some comfort, even if at that moment she was the one in need of being sheltered. One more night has passed, cursed by another nightmare...

"Kagewaki..." Anna saw the lad at the distance, this time she was afraid of touching him, because she didn't want to see the young master fading into ashes again. Her voice sounded low and apathetic, as her heart was racing not for the feeling of missing, but for terror instead. It has been a while that she felt like this. The sight of disappointment inside those almond eyes always paralyzed her. Annabelle wanted to cry, however not a single tear went down.
"Will you go to his encounter?" The harmed spirit also didn't make any effort to come closer. They gazed at each other from afar, both embraced by the cold zephyr of death.
"I can't stand this anymore..." the lass confessed with her eyes tightly sealed, searching for calmness.
"Can't you stand my presence?" His voice resounded full of bitterness.
"I tried, Kagewaki. I almost ended my life just to avoid to reach at this point, you were there, you saw it". She reopened her sky-blue orbs in time to see his semblance even more paler than it used to be, as his eyes were half widened and shinning wet. Was it for that remembrance of how close she got of dying? She couldn't tell if it was remorse on his features for encouraging her to follow him into death, or frustration for she didn't have achieve it. Yet, it surprisedly didn't seem to matter at the moment. "This is consuming me, I don't even recognize myself anymore..." it was the most honest thing to say, and all that she found strength to pronounce.
"So, you will go..." He sighed in profound sadness, answering the question in her place.

Could her lost love know her better than herself? Annabelle still hadn't decide if she would go to Naraku or not, and that ghost was anticipating his judgement on her. A mix of melancholy and rage revolved from her bosom to her throat, she frowned, catching the little girl's attention. So, not wanting to cause any trouble to the child's thoughts, the lass faked a joyful semblance and proceeded their conversation:
"Where are the great lord Sesshomaru and his loyal squire, lord Jaken?" Annabelle put some drama effects on her speech, emphasizing the adjectives chosen to denominate each mentioned subject. The little girl's worries soon were dissipated and they laughed together. Behind the relaxed giggles, many Anna's questions were hidden.
The sun seemed to be shy on that morning, concealing the most of it's rays behind a curtain of clear grey clouds. Would the weather and the landscape be a reflection of how the "kissed by the fairies" was feeling? Nature was confessing what her lips could never tell. Some of her colors has faded, however the redness would never succumb to grey. Her blood boiled inside her veins everytime the reminiscence of that lurking eyes, cornering her since the day she saved a certain young master's life, came to her mind.
I will be waiting for you. She recalled his saying. And would she go? Why Naraku has given her a choice?
"Lord Sesshomaru is solving a matter in a far away village, and lord Jaken is coming right there!" The enthusiastic Rin's voice deviate Annabelle's attention from her own reveries.
"Here it is, your breakfast!" The green, small yokai was coming as fast as he could, bringing a basket almost of his own size full of peaches. As soon as he was in front of them, Jaken threw the fruits to the girls and sighed, released from the weight.
"Thank you, toad face" Annabelle stroked his hat while gazing to the peaches, filled by nostalgia. Once, she had picked some of that fruits for so dearest friends...
"Oh, woman! I already told you that..." He would get pissed off, as all the times she called him like that, yet as Jaken looked at Anna attentively, for some reason he chose to calm down and leave it. "Nevermind!" with his arms crossed, the yokai just sat down.
Rin delighted by those fruits, devoured as many as she could. Annabelle, on the other hand, could barely eat one. The girl offered her some more, insisting she should eat and the Scottish lass denied the request politely. Noticing her friend dispirited, Rin had the idea to pick some white little flowers from a bush in the surroundings, then she asked Anna if she could make a braid on her hair.
"Sure, little Rin, I'll love it!" She kept sitting on the grass, as the girl sat over a rock right behind, so she could start to divide the ginger locks in three parts.
"Your hair is so beautiful, miss Anaberu..." Rin commented, stunned. "Like lord Sesshomaru, you possess a rare beauty" she smiled.
"Oh, it's so kind of you, little Rin" Anna chuckled, a bit embarrassed.
"You and him even match with each other" the girl said naturally.
"What an absurd, Rin!" Jaken scolded.
"But is true, miss Anaberu and lord Sesshomaru would be a beautiful couple, and she could stay with us forever!" the brownish eyes glimmered in hope, so sweet and innocent.
"Little Rin, what an idea!" Annabelle spontaneously guffawed. "I'm sorry, but I cannot be your lord Sesshomaru's match, and he wouldn't like to have me as his companion as well".
"But why not?" Rin asked.
"You are too young to understand..." she passed one hand over her own hair and felt little flowers adorning the braid made so carefully. "Thank you for this gorgeous hairdo though".
"Lord Sesshomaru..." Jaken, paler since the first Rin's offhand commentary, now was pointing his finger to the girl's behind, showing to them that his master was already there, in silence, just hearing the child's words.
Annabelle turned and faced him serenely. She noticed that his kimono's sleeve has been fixed, a discrete smile curved her lips. The imponent white yokai didn't say a thing about Rin's naive suggestions, he just asked if the woman's fever has ceased, and she nodded positively.
"We are leaving" then he announced to his group and walked ahead, Arurun was in that direction, just waiting.
Before going with them, Belle gazed behind like she was looking for something beyond the trees. As she didn't see anything, her feet kept following the trail ahead, automatically, numbed like every piece of her was. The more Anna walked, more she felt disoriented. No rock or strand of grass would caught the attention of her opaque eyes.
She felt a warmth over her hand then, it was Rin's fingers contouring hers, delicately holding them. Annabelle glimpsed through that girl's innocence and similar light she once had and knew it was lost.
I just want this to end... She closed her eyes for seconds and saw her passed lover. Such confusion has been established into her, that she doubted to have any good feeling for him still, her only certainty on that matter was that even in death she would not find peace, because Kagewaki wouldn't allow so.
Annabelle wished to forget him and break her promise. The single thought made her shake her head and fasten her steps.
The hours went by fastly, the sun that was already weak since morning, was being more and more obliterated by the clouds, yet no rain came down to refresh the forest. The routine of the group followed as it usually did, without many words from the leader, with Rin's jokes and laughs and the same grumpy mood of Jaken.
Still dizzy, Annabelle has announced she would take a bath and soon would be back. She lied, and wasn't used to do so. The little girl came closer, showing a worried semblance. Seeing her in such state was torture to Anna, all she could do was kneel in front of the child and hold her tight.
In another life, who knows, little Rin? At last Annabelle answered for herself the suggestion Rin has made hours before, about she and the daiyokai. "Take care of lord Sesshomaru" the lass whispered at the girl's ear as it was a secret, even knowing that he must have listened, for his golden gaze was fallen upon them, discretely, over his shoulder, yet unblinking, while he was resting against a large stone. "See you soon!" Anna hastily released Rin, just to run into the woods, covering her face with one arm. The girl was prepared to follow her, but her mentor's glare was saying clearly that she shouldn't, and she would respect the command.
"I feel miss Anaberu won't return to us" Rin said, restraining the tears.
"And who wants she to come back?!" Jaken pretended indifference, yet his glowing teary eyes were telling otherwise.
Sesshomaru remained quiet, just lifting his eyes to the sky, contemplating the greyish clouds above. Never would someone unveil Inuyasha's old brother thoughts.
