AUTHOR’S NOTES: All right, party people–you’d better leave a review this time. I actually had to do research for
this fic. Yes, that’s right, you’re going to get a biology lesson, and I don’t just mean the sex. Never say I didn’t do
anything for you.
   This story is a Kouga/Ayame pairing, which strangely I haven’t seen much of. It sort of deals with Kouga’s
feelings for Kagome, but I’ll be the first to admit it doesn’t resolve them, really. But who cares...this is just a silly
little lemon anyway.
   Political marriages were quite common in feudal Japan, so this story is at least plausible. Ayame really isn’t sure
of her feelings towards Kouga, I think, and of course Kouga is fixated on Kagome. But both are what they are, and
I’m sure the pressures of duty would outweigh whatever personal feelings they might have. But rest assured–I’m a
romantic at heart.
SCROLL FOUR: THE TROUBLE WITH WOLVES
    Kouga sat on the cliff, wondering if he should feel bad or good. Being forced into something was not something
he was used to. Mainly he wondered, how did I get myself into this?
    He didn’t love Ayame. Oh, she was all right, he supposed, and she was a good fighter; no question about that.
Kouga also knew that Ayame would do fine as chieftess of the Northern Mountain Tribe once her grandfather passed
on. She was even cute in her own way.
    But she wasn’t Kagome. Occasionally, when Kouga engaged in a somewhat unusual act for himself–deep
thinking–he questioned why he loved Kagome. She was a human mortal, after all; she would grow old and die, and
somewhere along the way lose her beauty, which he was attracted to. Granted, she had nice legs; Kouga was a leg
man. (He who would pun would pick a pocket–author.) Certainly that tiny outfit she wore emphasized that. She was
also so kind and sweet to him. What she saw in Dog Turd, known to the rest of the world as Inuyasha, was beyond
him. Occasionally, Kouga wondered if what he saw in Kagome was merely power–the power to find and claim the
Shikon no Tama for himself and his tribe; the power to find and kill Naraku and Kagura for what they had done. He
even wondered if he wasn’t just being a lust-addled fool; even if Kagome allowed him to mate with her, and
realistically he was beginning to doubt that, he wanted no part of a hanyou bastard like Dog Turd. She would find
welcome in his pack, but the other wolf youkai packs in Japan might have something else to say, and nothing nice.
Kouga was leader of a powerful pack in the Eastern Lands, and his fighting skill and accomplishments made other
packs look to him for leadership. Some had even proposed alliances, namely the equally influential Northern
Mountains pack, which ruled Honshu’s northern provinces from the Kanto plain to the snowy wastes of Hokkaido.
An alliance with them, cemented by marriage, would make Kouga, the dominant alpha male, the most powerful wolf
youkai on Honshu, possibly even Japan. Even Dog Turd’s pompous ass of a brother, Sesshoumaru, would have to
sit up and take notice then.
    There was only one problem with that. Marriage meant taking Ayame as a mate. Kouga considered that he could
do that and keep Kagome as his mistress; human samurai did that with no repercussions. That line of reasoning
seemed sound until Kouga realized he wasn’t a human samurai, but a wolf youkai–who mated for life–and in any
case, he doubted either Ayame or Kagome would tolerate playing second-fiddle to the other. While the idea of
being, well, serviced by both women occasionally invaded Kouga’s id and superego, he was smart enough to realize
that it wasn’t likely to happen. Besides, pissing off either woman invited being blown up by a sacred arrow or
castrated by razor grass. Kouga shuddered at that thought.
   Kouga shook his head and growled. He was acting like he had a choice in the matter. He didn’t. As far as either
tribe was concerned, he had made a promise to marry Ayame, and failure to keep that promise invited dishonor. He
could care less about that, really, but it would also throw his tribe, depleted after Kagura’s attacks, into open war
with the Northern Mountains clan. Even if he won, the tribe would be reduced even more, and it would invite more
attacks from the Kyoto pack or, worse, the Lord of the Western Lands; Sesshoumaru had wolf youkai allies that
would like nothing more than to make sure their lord’s domain stretched from sea to sea. So, there was only one
course open to him: take Ayame as a mate.
    Not that Kouga was about to give up on Kagome. Once Ayame was pupped, he could get back to the serious work
of hunting down Naraku and getting Kagome for himself. There was nothing in the law of the wolves that he
couldn’t take two wives, was there? Already Kouga had forgotten about the aforementioned castration or explosion.
Damn short-term memory.
    He was chortling to himself–maybe that idea of a threesome wasn’t so far-fetched after all–when Ayame walked
up behind him and said, “Kouga?” The latter promptly leapt five feet into the air.
   “A-Ayame!” he said, whirling. She had been downwind; he hadn’t smelled her. “W-What are you doing here?”
   She rolled her eyes. “I believe I’m here to m...” The word caught in her throat, and she turned paler than usual.
“M..M...”
    “Um...m-m-marry?” Kouga was having a similar attack of nerves.
    “No...m-m-mate.” Ayame suddenly found her toenails fascinating. “We, uh, mountain wolves don’t really have a
ceremony for marriage.”
    Kouga blinked several times. “You mean, you just...go for it?”
    “Um, well, yes.” She pointed to her white fur cloak. “Our bond will be affirmed by the mark you leave and the
blood on the cloak.”
    Kouga’s brain finally caught up. All youkai and hanyou, he supposed, marked their mates with a small bite. That
kept potential suitors away, though the youkai were free to mate with others; some lords and a few ladies kept
practical harems. (Kouga made a mental note to make sure Kagome hadn’t been marked; he planned on killing Dog
Turd at some point anyway on general principle, but it would be a lot sooner if he’d touched Kagome that way.) The
blood was from the loss of the female’s virginity: usually the first time would be done on a white fur cloak. It was
honorable, but it still bothered Kouga. He didn’t want to hurt Ayame.
    Ayame didn’t look too enthusiastic about the prospect either. After all, she had been just a child when Kouga
made the promise by the lunar rainbow, and she had always thought of mating as being some idyllic life-thing when
the male took care of her and pups magically appeared. Now that she knew about the physical portion, she wasn’t
sure she wanted to go through with it. Yet there was duty involved here: it was Kouga’s duty to give her a child; it
was Ayame’s duty to carry and deliver it; it was their mutual duty to unite their packs and preserve the united clan’s
holdings. Ayame did spare a moment to wonder how it would affect Kagome, but dismissed the human miko
quickly. Obviously she liked Inuyasha; Kagome thought of Kouga as a friend, if that, and the fact that everyone
could see that didn’t say much for Kouga’s mental capacity. Still, duty was duty, and if the other women were to
believed, it might even be fun.
   Kouga realized his duty as well, and with that, both squared their shoulders and indepedently made their decision.
“Let’s get it over with,” Ayame sighed, and took the white cloak off and spread it on the ground. She began to kneel
and assume the position, as it were, but Kouga waved his hands for her to stop. “What?” she growled.
    “We can’t just, well, do this!”
    “Why not?”
    That caught Kouga a little off guard. Why not indeed? No, something was missing. “Erm...we need to set the
right, uh...” What was the word he had overheard Kagome using? Ah. “Atmosphere. We need to set the right
atmosphere.”
     Ayame stood, hands on hips. “What’s that mean?”
    Good question, Kouga thought, but there was no way he was going to admit that. “There has to be certain
preparations involved.”
    Ayame hung her head in embarrassment. Kouga was right. The elder females of the pack had told her this. She
sighed again, and looked up at Kouga. “I’m sorry, Kouga...you’re entirely right. I forgot.” She approached him
with determination. Thank the gods, Kouga said to himself. She knows what she’s doing.
    Ayame stood on tiptoe and rubbed her nose against Kouga’s, then gently moved her lips across it, trailing a kiss
down to his mouth. As she did so, she bumped against him–thigh, breasts, elbows. Kouga recognized what she was
doing and returned the gestures equally. They did this for some time, and both were surprised to find themselves
breathing harder and turning red. Kouga leaned close and nuzzled her neck, brushing his long fall of black hair
against her cheek. Ayame could not hold back a whimper. Her grandfather had chosen the time to summon Kouga
well: Ayame was entering her heat, and instinct was beginning to take over. She reached up and began undoing the
ties to Kouga’s breastplate, but her fingers were shaking so bad she could not grasp the ties.
    “Let me get that,” Kouga said, and stepped back from her for a moment. As he undid the complicated knots,
Ayame began doing the same with her own breastplate. Kouga stared in fascination as the hardened leather slowly
came down and away, exposing Ayame’s small breasts. The pink nipples atop them were erect, and pointed
upwards, something he’d never really considered. She seemed to take no notice of his sudden, undivided attention,
and unclasped the belt that held her fur skirt. That dropped with a rush around her ankles, and she stepped out of it.
She wore no underwear, which Kouga knew was not standard operating procedure; he wasn’t so besotted with
Kagome that he wouldn’t have noticed it when they were fighting Naraku’s hair monster. His eyes traveled down her
supple stomach, over her thin thighs, and the small patch of red hair where those thighs met.
    Ayame abruptly noticed that Kouga was not only staring at her, but was openly salivating. She was getting dizzy,
what was the moron waiting for? Calling up the last reserves of her strength–Kouga’s fur loincloth had suddenly
become noticeably tented, and the thought of what was behind that was threatening to overwhelm her–Ayame cocked
an eyebrow at Kouga and motioned with all the imperiousness of a Northern Mountain princess at him. “Well?” was
all she said.
    “Rrrright.” He hadn’t meant it to come out as a growl, but it did. He shuffled off his clothing in a few seconds.
Ayame’s eyes widened at the sight of Kouga–all of him, which was quite impressive. She pointed in a mixture of
fascination and fear. “That–there’s–there’s no way that’s going to fit!”
    At that moment, Kouga knew things were going to work out. He folded his arms across his wide pectorals and
grinned. “It is impressive.” Ginta and Hakkaku didn’t call Kouga “Tripod” when he thought he was out of earshot
for nothing.
    Ayame was having more than a few second thoughts. She had a basic knowledge of male anatomy, but
that...thing...no, it wasn’t possible. Kouga, rather liking the fear on her face and confirmation of his virility,
advanced on Ayame and pinned her arms to her waist before she could run, which she was seriously considering.
“Ayame,” he smiled, “I’ll be very gentle.”
    She could feel his member pressing into her chest just below her breasts. “Y-you’d b-better be...” Kouga bent
down and began nuzzling her nose again, then kissed her as a human would, with enough force that she knew he
would leave bruises. She somehow stayed on her feet as he slowly knelt until his face was level with her sex. He
took a deep breath and smelled of her–no doubt, Ayame was in heat and ready. He bent forward and tasted her just
to be sure. When Ayame didn’t try to bite him or kick him into the next prefecture, Kouga knew that the mating
could proceed. He was surprised at how much he wanted this girl. Kagome suddenly seemed very much a stranger
from a fever dream.
    Ayame let out a long moan as Kouga licked her, but the moan was suddenly cut short when a certain smell wafted
past her nostrils. Something familiar and not something pleasant. She sniffed again, but her senses were not working
quite properly at the moment, as Kouga slightly parted her thighs to get better access. “K-Kouga...I smell...smell...s-s-somethiiiingggg...” It was becoming rather difficult to talk.
    “I smell something too,” Kouga chuckled. Her smell was intoxicating him. He needed Ayame now. He stood up,
turned her around, and pushed down to all fours on the cloak. Ayame instantly forgot the strange smell. Kouga lay
atop her, balancing his greater weight, and clasped her hands with his own. Though every instinct screamed at him
to plunge in, he knew he would have to take things a little slow. After all, this was Ayame’s first time. And his.
    Ayame gritted her teeth as Kouga pushed into her. It was painful, and she felt something tear and blood trickle
down her leg onto the cloak. It continued to hurt as he pulled out a little and then back in, but finally the pain
subsided. Kouga was unable to get himself completely inside her, but somehow that heightened the experience.
Soon, he was thrusting away without much trouble, and Ayame’s little cries as he did so told Kouga he was doing
things right.
    Unfortunately, the plans of mice and men–or in this case, youkai wolves–often go awry. Just as Kouga felt Ayame
begin to pulse around him in orgasm, Kagura stepped from the treeline. “Ayame!” he shouted in alarm.
    Ayame had her eyes closed, overwhelmed by the shuddering in her loins. “K-Kouga...I love you too...” She
opened her eyes when she heard Kagura begin to laugh. She didn’t recognize the woman, but the smell of Naraku
was unmistakable, even over the smell of their mating. Ayame tried to move, but her whole body might have been
made of jelly for all the response she could get from it.
    Kagura covered her mouth with one of her fans. “Oh, don’t let me interrupt you, my dear,” she said to Ayame. “I
know how that feels. I wouldn’t want to interrupt your last time.” She snapped the fans out. Today she wasn’t here
to observe: she had tracked Kouga to the mountains for his jewel shards. Kagura was evil, after all; murder was part
of why she existed.
    “Why you...” Kouga couldn’t believe his bad luck. Just about the time he was really getting into things, to pardon
the pun, his worst enemy–well, his worst enemy next to Dog Turd and Naraku–had to show up. Why hadn’t he
smelled her...oh, right. His anger wasn’t exactly deflating him, but erection or not, he was going to run over, pound
Kagura into a fine red mist, and get back to what he was doing. “Sorry, Ayame, but that bitch has to die!”
    Ayame suddenly realized what Kouga was about to do. “No, Kouga, don’t try to pull out–“
    Kouga stood up, prepatory to doing his impression of a tornado.
    Ayame stood up with him–sort of. Actually, she ended up with her rear end in the air, frantically clawing for
purchase with her hands.
    Kagura’s eyes widened at the sight. Her laughter stopped for a moment, then she remembered watching the
wolves before her liasion with Sesshoumaru. Her cheeks bulged, and then Kagura burst into uproarious laughter,
pointing at them. Kouga snarled and tried to pull free of Ayame, only to nearly topple over. The truth dawned on
him: he and Ayame were wolf youkai after all...and they were locked up. To put it clinically, his penis had expanded
and Ayame’s vaginal walls had contracted. They were stuck. It was nature’s way of making sure that the male didn’t
pull out until the female had the requisite amount of sperm to get a pregnancy started. Unfortunately, Onna Nature
had not thought of situations like this. His fingers flexed, wishing he could get his claws around Kagura’s throat;
instinctively, he lunged forward, forcing Ayame to do an admirable impression of a wheelbarrow. Kagura was by
now in hysterics, her fans dropped and forgotten, pounding the ground in mirth. She was gasping, unable to get
breath, but the laughter continued and got louder.
    Ayame had enough of that. This was her first time, dammit, and to be confronted by a sworn enemy of all wolf
tribes in the throes of an orgasm was bad enough; to be laughed at was the last straw. Balancing on one free hand,
she pushed the cloak back. “Kouga! Grab my breasts!”
    Kouga wasn’t sure what Ayame had in mind; he wondered maybe if she was getting turned on by Kagura’s
presence. He hoped not: a threesome with Kagome was one thing, but Kagura was unthinkable. “Uh...”
    “Grab them, baka!”
    Kouga shrugged and did so, getting a double handful. Ayame flexed her thighs and hooked her feet behind
Kouga’s calves; then, balancing in his strong hands, she tore grass free of the ground, concentrated for a moment,
and threw them at Kagura. The grass stiffened into razor sharp blades that tore through Kagura’s kimono and sliced
flesh. Kagura’s laughter was cut off and replaced with a scream of pain. She leapt to one side, grabbing her fans on
the way.
    “Turn, Kouga!” Kouga did as ordered, and another two fistfuls of herbal razors went flying at Kagura. The latter
parried them with her fans, but just barely. She dodged again, but Ayame connected again. Suddenly it was getting
dangerous, and Kagura unleashed her own blades, solidified air that would tear the mated pair apart. Kouga was
quicker: he pulled Ayame upwards against his own chest, and jumped away. “Ow!” Ayame yelled as they made a
jarring landing. “Be careful–we’re still–“
    ”I know,” Kouga panted. Now there was adrenaline coursing through him, and that was not helping the situation.
Both of them were trembling, which was lending a vibration to the nether regions, which in turn might lead to a
climax to the battle entirely different from the norm.
    “And watch the tits,” Ayame warned, though having Kouga’s callused hands around them was pretty enjoyable.
Then they realized that Kagura wasn’t following up her attack.
     Kagura had her fans raised, but she suddenly sighed and let them drop. “I can’t do this,” she said. “Heartless I
may be, but I just can’t kill somebody while they’re in the middle of sex. It’s just not right.” She plucked a feather
from her hair. “We’ll take this up another day. Have fun, you–he’s big,” Kagura told Ayame, then she was gone in a
flutter of wind. Naraku would not be happy, but that was his problem...and besides, Sesshoumaru should be on the
way back to the castle...
    “This isn’t at all what I had in mind,” Ayame groaned.
    “It’s not so bad,” Kouga grinned.
    “Hentai,” she smiled. She managed to twist around to kiss him. “Since we’re going to be stuck together for the
next half hour anyway, we might as well pick up where we left off. Take me back to the furs.”
    Kouga instead brought his hands underneath her arms, getting her in a passable half-nelson. “I got a better idea,”
he growled. “Let’s finish up right here.”
    “While standing–ooh, Kouga!”
    And, as Kouga would tell his pups some years later, was how the wolf demon tribes became united.
