IChapter Four
Kagome came in just a minute
before the Monday morning rang. Seeing most of the students already sitting and
waiting, she walked up to his desk “Mr. Taisho” she said getting his attention.
When he looked at her, she handed him some of the completed assignments she had
missed the two months she was gone “I thought I’d hand in what I have done so
far”
He gave a nod “that’s very good
of you, Higurashi” he said as he took the papers. He saw they were paper
clipped and saw a small piece of paper in the front saying the date and time of
her party. He smirked, clever girl. She knew there would be students and that
just giving him a small piece of paper would make students talk and think
something was going on between them so she added the note to her assignments. He
looked at her “very good Higurashi”
Kagome smiled, understanding what
he was complimenting her for “thank you Mr. Taisho”
“Now take your seat” he said as
the bell went. He did attendance before he stood up and walked in front of his
desk to lean against it “now class, today we will be learning about the
holocaust explosion and how it made its way into our history”
Kagome listened intently as he
spoke. She was still having a hard time believing how much he changed. It was
like he wasn’t even the same Sesshoumaru anymore and technically he wasn’t. The
old…or younger Sesshoumaru she knew had been so cold hearted and never cared
for anything really except Rin and even then he didn’t really show it. But this
Sesshoumaru he joked, he laughed…well chuckled mostly, and he talked more.
There was just so much more emotion in this Sesshoumaru compared to the one she
knew back then. Before she knew it the bell rang making her jump from her
thoughts. As everyone cleared out she got her things together and started to leave.
“Higurashi” he called.
Kagome walked up to his desk just
as the last student left “yes?”
He smirked, “clever thing you
did”
“Well I didn’t want anyone to
think I was giving you my phone number” she smirked back “people would think I
was hitting on a teacher and that wouldn’t look good”
He gave a nod of agreement “I
have mentioned it to Shippo, he and I will both be there”
“Then I will see you then” she
replied as she started to walk away.
“I believe you will be seeing me
tomorrow and until Friday” he mentioned with much amusement in his voice. He
saw her blush and his smile widened “I’ll give you a ride home Friday”
She nodded “okay, thank you”
The week seemed to fly by and
before she knew it a week had passed and it was the day of her party.
Sesshoumaru had ended up giving her a ride to her place everyday. Shippo had
even come by everyday at lunch with homemade lunches that he made. She noticed
that even after a month of returning to school and her upcoming birthday her
friends had still kept their distance. She was starting to miss them, but at
the same time she was still glad because it gave her more time to be with
Shippo and Sesshoumaru. She silently laughed to herself as she sat in the
cafeteria, eating her sandwich. She couldn’t believe how much she enjoyed being
in the taiyoukai’s company. She enjoyed talking with him and joking around with
him. She blushed a little as she remembered that night
at their place and the way he had held her close during the movie. She never
really pictured Sesshoumaru as being one who liked to cuddle.
“And what could you being
thinking about to cause such a blush?” a familiar voice asked.
Kagome closed her eyes and smiled
“hello Shippo” she felt him as he sat beside her “I have wondered why you
always come to my school”
He looked at her with a bright
smile “that’s easy…high school girls”
She started laughed as she looked
at him “never thought I’d hear you say that. I‘d expect it more from Miroku
than I would from you”
“Well you know” he started with
enthusiasm “I did hang around him years so it’s only nature he would rub off on
me, besides every college guy wants to get with a high school girl”
She laughed a bit harder “but
haven’t you supposed to have graduated?”
He gave a mocked hurt look “I
only graduated last year” he smirked “besides some of these girls here are kind
of hot. I wouldn’t mind spending a night with a few of them”
She shook her head “that is
something I don’t want to hear”
Shippo grinned as he gave her a
light nudge with his head “yes mother”
“I remember when you first called
me that” she gave a soft smile.
His grin softened to a warm smile
“yea I remember too” he leaned in close again and rested his head on her
shoulder, feeling very relaxed “I know I’m older, but mind if I call you it?”
She rested her head on his head
“people would wonder what kind of girl I am to have a son older than me”
He shook his head on her shoulder
“let them think what they want, we know the truth, and we have history
together. I never got to call you it back then except that day when you left, I
still want to call you it”
She closed her eyes and let out a
relaxed breath “then you call me it whenever you feel you need to”
He turned his body without moving
his head from her shoulder and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close
to him “thanks mother”
Kagome quickly wrapped her arms
around him “your welcome, son” they held each other a moment before another
familiar voice interrupted them. When she looked up she saw Hojo “hello Hojo”
Hojo turned his head and looked
at the man that had been hugging Kagome. He had seen him here a few times and
noticed he’d been at the school every lunch hour this week. The guy seemed
young, but definitely old enough to not be a high school student; most likely
the guy was a college student. He wondered what this guy was to Kagome; he
seemed to be rather friendly with her. He ignored the man for the time being
and smiled at the girl “how have you been?”
She smiled “fine, thank you”
“I just came over to wish you a
happy birthday” he said
Kagome gave him a warm smile
“thank you Hojo that’s very kind of you”
He gave a nod before he turned
his attention to the guy still hugging his friend “whose
your friend Kagome?”
“This is Shippo” she said as she
started introductions “Shippo this is Hojo”
Shippo looked at the kid before
standing up to offer his hand “nice to meet you”
Hojo nodded “I’ve seen you around
a few times, do you go to school here?”
Shippo automatically sized the
boy up. Even though when he was with Kagome he felt the little boy in him come
out to play, when dealing with a kid like this, the man in him came out to
judge. He knew this was the guy he had felt watching them the few times he’d
come to the school to give his mother lunch. He also remembered Kagome telling
him about this Hojo character 500 years ago and how he was hopelessly in love
with her. He could tell this boy still had a thing for her and probably felt
threatened when he saw him coming to school and getting to be all friendly and
hugging her. He mentally smirked, Kagome didn’t give her hugs to just anyone,
only to those she really liked and felt close to. Remembering then he was asked
a question he answered “no, I just graduated college”
Kagome stood up and went to stand
next to the kitsune, having already thought of an excuse for an older guy to be
visiting her “Shippo is an old friend of mine, I ran into him just a little
over a month ago when my mother sent me shopping”
Hojo seemed to relax a little. So
it seemed Kagome wasn’t seeing the guy just that he was an old friend “that’s
nice, so how did you guys meet?”
Seeing Kagome wasn’t ready for
that question, he answered “It was a very long time ago, my father was murdered
and I became an orphan” he smiled as he took her hand and brought her close to
him, he glanced at her with a smirk “little Kagome here saw me and being the
kind person she is, helped comfort me and we became fast friends, letting me
tag along with her for awhile” he continued “unfortunately I ended up moving
with my adopted dad and I lost contact with her, imagine my surprise when I saw
her walking down the street shortly after my return to Japan”
Kagome laughed as she remembered
“you scared me, coming up and hugging me out of the blue. I thought it was some
creepy guy with issues”
He chuckled “I’m still hurt you
felt that way”
“What do you expect when a person
you didn’t expect on seeing suddenly comes up to you looking years older and
then just hugs you without introducing themselves over again” she hit him
playfully “it’s what your supposed to do when seeing someone after you’ve aged
so much, saves giving the person from getting the scare of their life”
He gave her a warm smile, she
seemed to have forgotten that boy was still there watching them, but he didn’t
care “come on, I’ll walk you to your next class and then I should go”
“Okay” she agreed, then
remembering there was someone else there, she looked at her high school friend
“I’ll see you later Hojo, you have a good day, okay?”
He nodded “you too, Kagome” he
said as he watched the two walk away. The interaction between the two said to
him they were more than friends. He sighed, but if that guy made her happy than
he would not stand in their way.
After school, Kagome went to
Sesshoumaru’s class where he was finishing gathering his things. He looked at
her and smiled “ready?” when she nodded he grabbed his shoulder bag and
followed her out. Once in the hummer and away from the school, he spoke again
“Shippo came by and told me about lunch hour”
“What exactly did he say?” she
asked
“That some Hojo kid was wondering
about your relationship with him and the story he told” he replied.
Kagome gave a short nod “Hojo did
seem interested in how I knew Shippo”
Sesshoumaru said nothing for a
few moments, before stopping at a red light “Shippo got the sense that the guy
might have felt threatened by him. Apparently this Hojo has liked you for
awhile now?” at her nod of confirmation, he told her “Shippo thinks Hojo might
have thought the two of you were dating”
With a cough and a gasp, she
turned shocked eyes on the taiyoukai as he continued driving “he said Hojo
might have thought what?”
“That the two of you were dating”
he replied “at least that was the vibe he got from the boy”
Kagome stayed silent. It wasn’t
something she could deny. Chances were Hojo probably did think that especially
if he caught the two of them hugging the way they were they might have been
mistaken as lovers instead of just two very close friends. The rest of the ride
was silent as they finally arrived at the shrine. Getting out of the hummer,
Sesshoumaru followed her up the stairs, thought the shrine grounds, and
eventually to her house. A voice calling out to them to wait up and they
stopped and turned around to see Shippo running up. He paused before them,
taking a minute to catch his breath before casting a small glare at the
taiyoukai “thanks a lot”
“I told you what time I was
leaving” he retorted “you should have been on time”
Kagome looked between the two “is
something wrong?”
Shippo looked at her and chuckled
“nah, he just left me behind because I was only a few minutes late meeting you
guys at his car”
Understanding and knowing how the
taiyoukai could be, Kagome smiled “well at least you made it”
He chuckled “of course, just a
hop, skip, and a jump taking roof tops”
“You are more like Inuyasha than
you know” she laughed “he used to do that all the time when he was here”
“Well it is convenient for not
wanting to be seen” he defended with a smile “come on let’s go greet your
family. I’ve only met your mom. I seemed to miss meeting everyone else those
times I’ve come over”
Kagome’s eyes widened “that’s
right! You’ll finally meet everyone else” she looked at the taiyoukai “and this
will be your first time meeting everyone”
He gave a nod “indeed it will be”
he watched her eyes light up at the idea of him meeting her family.
Entering the house, Kagome gave
the call that she was home and had company with her. Within seconds; upstairs you
could here an ‘alright!’ followed by feet running across the floor and down the
stairs. Reaching the bottom, Souta, now 13, stared at her company. One of these
guys was Shippo, the tiny kitsune grown up, that she used to care for. He
guessed the other to be Inuyasha’s brother. Seeing the silver hair didn’t make
it too hard to figure out who was who and he immediately jumped in front of the
kitsune “you must be Shippo!”
Shippo chuckled at the boy’s
excitement “that’s right”
Souta then turned to look at the
taiyoukai. The man was quite tall, definitely taller than Inuyasha was, but the
silver hair was the same and same with the amber colored eyes. He noticed the
youkai had pointed ears instead of the dog ears Inuyasha had and just seemed to
have a more mature air about him “and that means you’re Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha’s
older brother”
Sesshoumaru gave a nod “you are
correct”
“Alright!” he said hopping up and
down “this is going to be great!” quickly he looked again to the kitsune “hey,
want to play video games?”
Giving Kagome a quick look to see
if it was okay, at her nod, he grinned and turned to the boy “you got it and
I’ll so win!”
“We’ll see about that” Souta said
as he grabbed Shippo’s hand and started dragging him upstairs.
Kagome laughed and turned to
Sesshoumaru “we just get in and we’ve already lost Shippo”
He smirked “I’m sure he is quite
happy being lost if it means he gets to play video games”
“Come on in and I’ll introduce
you to my mom” she said as she walked in with him following. Together they
entered the kitchen where her mom was preparing supper “mom, I have someone I
want you to meet”
Aksumi turned around to see her
daughter and noticed the tall, handsome, man at her side. She could see right
away the resemblance between this man and Inuyasha. She smiled as she walked
over “welcome home Kagome”
“Mom, this is Sesshoumaru” she
started “Sesshoumaru this is my mom”
Aksumi quickly cleaned her hand
in her apron before extending it to the taiyoukai “it’s nice to finally meet
Inuyasha’s brother”
Sesshoumaru took the offered hand
and gave her a shake and nod of her head “it’s a pleasure to meet you as well”
She laughed before going back to
her cooking “you may call me, Aksumi”
“Very well, Aksumi” he answered.
Opening the oven, she spoke to
them “supper is almost ready, but feel free to watch tv
until it is done”
Kagome smiled “thanks mom, oh
where is grandpa?”
“He will be home in a few
minutes, he just went out to get something” she replied.
Kagome showed Sesshoumaru out of
the kitchen and into the living room. Together they sat on the couch and began
channel surfing. After a few moments, Sesshoumaru asked a question that had
been bothering him “Kagome, where is your father?”
Kagome didn’t look at him, but he
could see her eyes sadden “he left shortly after Souta was born and didn’t come
back”
That statement alone could mean
many things. Her father could have walked out on them or he was murdered or he
was in an accident and didn’t make it. Seeing that the topic of her father
seemed to bother her he decided not to press. He didn’t want to make her sad on
her birthday, so he changed the subject “now that you’re of age, we will have
to go out for drinks some time”
She laughed; happy he changed the
topic “now how would that look if the school were to find out. A teacher having
drinks with one of his students”
He smirked “I admit it wouldn’t
look good, but we are also friends, are we not?”
She turned her head to him with a
bright smile “yes, yes we are”
The taiyoukai gave a short
chuckle “who’d a thought in time we would call each other friend, hmmm?”
“Back then it did seem
impossible, didn’t it?” she answered
He gave a shake of his head “not
impossible, but rather difficult because of our history at the time” he then
gave her a soft smile “but now it’s different, we are not 500 years in the
past, but 500 years in the future and times have changed to make this possible”
She smiled at the thought “that’s
a good way to look at it”
“Supper is ready!” her mother
called.
Everyone gathered at the table
and sat down. Her grandfather came in a short few minutes later and he was
introduced to the two guests. The meal went well with jokes and stories. Kagome
told some of how her grandfather tried to put sutras on Inuyasha when he first
came through the well to get her. Everyone laughed, even Sesshoumaru as he pictured
it happening. Aksumi asked Sesshoumaru what he’d been up to over the years and
was surprised to learn he owned his own company, but had a job teaching history
at Kagome’s school for something to do besides always being in an office. When
supper ended, the cake was brought out and everyone sang ‘happy birthday’
before she blew out the candles. Once the cake was over and they started
handing out presents, Sesshoumaru and Shippo excused them selves to go get some
items that were in the hummer.
As Sesshoumaru set everything in
the living room, Shippo went into their dining room “hey Kagome if you’re done
opening up those presents, can you come into the living room, we have some
stuff to give you”
Kagome stood and went into the
living room followed by her family. In the living room she saw numerous gifts
on a table wrapped up. Shippo guided her to sit next to Sesshoumaru and the
taiyoukai handed her the first present that was kind of big and bulky “this is
from Shippo”
Kagome smiled as she slowly
unwrapped the wrapping. Tears came to her eyes as she saw a painting of
Inuyasha done with him leaning against the god tree. They were so realistic it
was almost like it was an actual photograph. Moving that one to see the
painting underneath it was a picture of Sango and Miroku and their children.
There was one of Sango and Miroku before they had their children as well. She
gave a small laugh as she saw one done of Jinenji and his mother. There was
even a picture of Kouga standing proudly with his cocky smirk he’d always give
with Hakkaku and Ginta at his side, smiling. She had one of Kirara in both
forms as well as one of Jaken and Rin. Another she had was of Kohaku and Rin
when they were getting married, the next of them and their children, and
finally one of Inuyasha and Kikyo with their many adopted children. Letting the
tears roll down her cheeks she looked at Shippo, remembering how he was always
coloring “did you do these Shippo?”
He nodded as he saw her teary
smile as she looked the paintings over “yeah”
As she stared at them, she asked
“what happened to Kouga?”
Shippo went and kneeled next to
her “he and Ayame mated and had only 3 children. I think they are currently in
the states on business. Kouga works for Sesshoumaru actually”
Kagome gasped and looked at the
taiyoukai “how come you never mentioned him?”
“You never asked” he replied “but
if it makes you happy I’ve already sent word to him and he wants to see you as
soon as he gets back from his business trip”
“When does he get back?” she
asked
“If everyone goes well he should
be back in another month” he answered “since he’s already been there for 4
months Ayame went with him or she would have come to see you by now since they
too knew when you were going to be stuck here, but unfortunately business got
in the way of them seeing you”
Kagome smiled at the thought of
seeing Kouga and Ayame again. Sesshoumaru then handed her another present “this
is from Miroku”
Her eyes widened as she stared at
him a moment before opening it. She gave a teary smile as she held up the beads
that he used to wear “his prayer beads”
Shippo could feel his own tears
coming as he watched his adoptive mother see her time in the past come back,
but this time the people were missing. It was only memories now. He lay his
head down on her knee “he said he wanted you to have them to remember him by”
Kagome smiled at the thought and
gasped when she felt a hand slide under her to grope her butt. Going on reflex
she swung in the direction the hand came from and slapped the offender with the
yell of “pervert!”
Luckily, Sesshoumaru had braced
himself for the impact. He remembered seeing the monk get slapped many times
for the action he just pulled “another ‘gift’ the monk wanted you to remember
him by” he stated at her surprised face that it was him that had touched her in
such a way.
Remembering how Miroku would
always grope them at every chance he could get, Kagome started laughing. She
was quite shocked to find it was Sesshoumaru that had touched her like that and
that she had even slapped him, but hearing his reason, well that was all too
funny.
Not understanding what was going
on and the fact that the taiyoukai had the nerve to touch his sister like that
in front of her family, Souta asked “how could you find that funny sis? He just
grabbed your butt”
Kagome only laughed harder as she
fell back more into the couch. Seeing that she was having a fun time
remembering, Shippo looked at the boy “Kagome never told you about Miroku?”
“Of course she did” Souta replied
“she told us he was a monk that was cursed with something like a black hole in
his hand and that he often hit on women asking them to bare his child, but
Sango was always there to grab him and take him away”
Shippo started laughing “then she
failed to mention the biggest part of just how much of a womanizer Miroku was.
When it came to Kagome and Sango he had a habit of groping them whenever they
weren’t paying attention to him, which normally got himself slapped like my dad
here just got” he chuckled “seems with Kagome it’s still a reflex”
Souta’s eyes widened “you mean
the monk used to grab my sister’s butt?”
Shippo nodded “in fact it was
kind of how they met. You heard the story?” at the nod, he continued “well then
I can already guess Kagome left the groping part out. So I will tell you. After
Kagome had knocked Miroku unconscious and was looking over him while talking
with Inuyasha, Miroku came to and decided to get a feel. Well Kagome flipped
out pretty good and ended up telling Inuyasha to kill him” he laughed “lucky
for Miroku he’s a smooth talker and got to leave without broken bones and his
life” he then added as a second thought “or it could be Kagome’s just very
forgiving”
Sesshoumaru watched as Kagome
calmed down before mentioning “he also gave you his staff, which we took the
liberty of putting in your room,” at her nod he passed her another present,
“this is from Sango”
Kagome took the present and
opened it. She smiled as she saw the old style gas mask that Sango used to wear
from time to time. She heard Sesshoumaru tell her she even has the boomerang
that Sango used to wield in battle and that was up in her room as well. She
gave a nod that she heard before accepting the next present, smiling when she
heard it was from Rin. It was in a tiny box and she opened it. She gasped as
she pulled out the familiar necklace she had given the child. It had aged quite
a bit, but it was still in good condition, quickly she looked at the dog youkai
beside her “Sesshoumaru I can’t accept this, wouldn’t it be better if you kept
it?”
He shook his head “Rin wanted you
to have it” he replied
“But this has the only picture of
Rin you ever had” she argued.
“I have had Shippo do some
portraits of her” he answered “as you can see he is a very good artist”
She nodded “okay, if you’re sure
about it”
He gave a nod “it’s what Rin
wanted” he helped her put the necklace on before handing her, her next gift
“this is from me”
Kagome smiled as she opened the
box to reveal an actual photo of the taiyoukai in his full form. Taking the
photo she looked to see that he’d given her a beautiful silver bracelet. On one
part that was flat was an image of what looked like him to be running in his
dog form. She looked at him and gave him a hug “thank you Sesshoumaru”
He was still unused to receiving
hugs, but he returned it “your welcome” he said and watched as she gave the
kitsune a hug as well and thanked him for his paintings. Getting her attention
again he pulled out a small bag and passed it to her “this is from Inuyasha”
Kagome gave a sad smile as she
took the small bag; she could already feel the tears coming once again. Her
family watched silently as she opened it, knowing this was going to be very a emotional gift. Opening the bag she pulled out the prayer
beads that he used to wear and her tears fell. Looking at the bottom she saw a
small note, taking it she read it silently to herself ‘Dear Kagome, happy
birthday. I know I’m not going to live to see your time again so I asked
Sesshoumaru to give you this as my final gift to you. I wrote this note,
knowing you are probably going to cry’ she choked laugh; he was right ‘I
know I can’t ask you not to cry, you are going to cry anyways. But know that I
have always loved you and always will. You have Sesshoumaru and Shippo there
with you to take care of you. I love you Kagome and I know you loved me, but
please do not live in the past. I want you to find love again, I want you to
live and raise a family. Most importantly I want you to be happy. Don’t worry I
will see you again, just not in this time, but I will wait for you at the gates
of heaven and you better be smiling happily. I love you Kagome, good-bye-
Inuyasha’
Kagome let out a shaky breath as
the tears fell and she whispered “he’s really not coming back, is he?”
Sesshoumaru quickly wrapped his
arms around her and pulled her close as she turned to cry in his chest. He saw
her mother wipe a tear away from her eyes and her brother leave the room.
Apparently her family came to care for the hanyou very much
and were all saddened that they couldn’t see him anymore. He held the
girl closer and tighter as he noticed her grandfather even looked a little sad
and saw the kitsune place a hand on her knee and gently rubbed while he once
again made his head comfortable on her lap. After awhile she calmed down and
pulled away taking notice of the soaked spot on his shirt “I’m sorry,
Sesshoumaru”
He looked at her with a
comforting gaze “it is all right, you can use me anytime”
She gave a small smile “thank you”
hearing a stomach rumbling she turned to look at the kitsune who was now
sporting a wonderful blush.
“I guess I’m hungry again” he
laughed.
Kagome laughed at him before
saying there was still food leftover in the kitchen. Soon enough they were
talking and joking like nothing happened. Souta came back to join them when he
heard the happy talking again. Everyone could tell he had been crying too and
Kagome gave him a hug before having him join them. It was late when the little
party started winding down and both youkai were starting to say their thanks
for the meal and cake, but then the door bell rang.
Aksumi glanced at the door
curiously “who’d be coming this late at night?” she wondered out loud as she
walked over to the door to answer it. Opening the door she let out a surprise
gasp.
Kagome soon walked over “mama?
Who is it?” turning her head to see who she was looking at, she gasped as well;
she could never forget his face “d-dad?”
Sesshoumaru and Shippo ears
perked up when they heard her say who was at the door. The taiyoukai assumed he
was right, the father had walked out on them, and he narrowed his eyes
wondering why he came back after so long. Kagome had said her father left
shortly after her brother was born and her brother was now a young teenager.
That is a very long time to be gone. He watched as Aksumi opened the door to
allow him in and got a good look at the man.
The guy wasn’t very tall maybe
5’6, his hair had become somewhat grey with old age, and he was about average
weight. He smiled as he looked at them “hi” he said before turning to look at
his now much older daughter “happy birthday, sweetheart”
Still shocked she could only nod
as she slowly backed up to let him in. Quickly she moved to stand near the two
youkai and watched the man who had disappeared long ago walk in the door.
Aksumi stared at him “w-what are
you doing back?”
He looked at them a little
nervously “I-I was in the neighborhood and thought I should come and see you
all” he smiled at his ex-wife “I was hoping I could spend time with everyone
while I’m here on business”
Remembering her manners invited
him to enter and sit down on the couch. Feeling that this was a family moment,
the two youkai decided it was time to make their leave. Aksumi, Souta and jii-chan said their good-byes and thanks for coming while
Kagome saw them to the door. She hugged them both and thanked them for their
gifts before watching them leave.
~_~_~_~_~_~
It had been a month since
Kagome’s dad had shown up on her birthday. Kagome had explained to the boys
that her parents had divorced because her father had had a drinking problem. It
had taken him a few years, but he had finally sought out help and had been
sober for 6 years, but hadn’t had the nerve to face his old family knowing the
hard times he had put them through. He was in Tokyo on a business trip and decided it was
now or never. It turned out his job was traveling to different places within
the company and spending time at one town or another for a set amount of time
and seeing if anything needed to be changed. After learning he would be staying
for at least a year and be in a hotel the whole time, Aksumi had invited him to
stay at the shrine. She had thought it only fair for Souta to finally get to
know his father.
Sesshoumaru was happy when he saw
her wearing Rin’s necklace and the bracelet he’d given her the first day back
to class. After she had explained a little of her family history with her father
he became a little bothered about having that man around her, but she seemed
happy, so he didn’t voice his concern. If the man was truly sober then there
was nothing to worry about, but still he had a feeling that something was going
to go wrong.
It happened slowly, but it was
noticeable to both youkai. Kagome had started to distance herself from them by
making excuses. She declined when Shippo offered to walk her home after school
or the taiyoukai’s offered rides home. She couldn’t be found during lunch hours
and both men could tell she was faking her cheerfulness. She just wasn’t
herself. Both youkai were growing very concerned for her and weren’t totally
sure what to do since she wouldn’t speak about the problem, saying there wasn’t
one, but both knew it was a lie and had a good idea what the problem was.
Shippo was the most troubled about her behavior since he had always been the
closest to her. The fact that she wasn’t telling him anything left him very
restless to the point he was almost as cheerless as her.
So one day after history class,
before she could leave, Sesshoumaru called her over to his desk. Making sure
everyone left he stood and walked up to her “Kagome, Shippo and I were
wondering if you’d like to come to my farm on the outskirts of the city?”
She blinked “a farm?”
“Yes” he answered “we sometimes
go there on weekends, we plan on going this weekend if you’d like to join”
She seemed to go into deep
thought before she gave him a soft smile “sure, just let me clear it with my
mama, okay?”
He gave a nod, not bothering to
mention that she didn’t mention her father “very well, you have Shippo’s
number, give him a call with your answer if you can or can’t make it”
Later that night, Kagome made her
choice; she went to her mom “mama?”
Aksumi looked at her daughter
“yes?”
“Sesshoumaru has asked if I could
go with him and Shippo to a farm they own just out side the city just for the
weekend” she started “can I go?”
Knowing the reason why her
daughter wanted to go, she gave a sad look and nodded “of course”
Kagome gave a soft smile at her
mom’s understanding before running up to her room and dialing Shippo’s cell
number knowing he was probably out. She gave a bright smile when she heard his
voice “hi Shippo”
“Kagome!” he said excitedly “to
what do I owe the honor of this call?”
“Sesshoumaru invited me out to
your guys’ farm this weekend and I was just calling to let you know I can go”
she replied.
“That’s great to hear Kagome!” he
nearly shouted into the phone “then we’ll leave Friday right after school so we
can enjoy more of the weekend. Sesshoumaru can give you a ride home to pick up
you-“
“No!” she interrupted quickly and
almost panicky, she was quick to calm down and fix her outburst “I can bring my
stuff to school Friday and keep it in my locker and we can just head out from
there, does that sound better?”
He was silent a moment before his
happy voice came back answered “sounds better without the detour to your place.
We save a few minutes that can be spent on the road” he laughed “I’ll see you
then, okay?”
After Kagome hung up she smiled
as she looked out the window. It would be nice to see Shippo and Sesshoumaru
again, she missed them and she needed them. A tear escaped her eye as she heard
noise coming from downstairs. She turned her head when she heard someone coming
in the room and quickly opened her arms to welcome him. He ran into her arms
and she held him tight until they both feel asleep,
her telling him comforting words to calm him “it will be okay Souta, he won’t
be staying forever”
Note: Okay that’s the end of
another chapter…how was it? I’m really happy with the reviews I got for the
last chapter! I was so surprised I got so many ^_^ I just love getting reviews
and reading people’s thoughts and suggestions, makes my often bad days…good
days. I know this one took while for me to update. I was gonna update last weekend
as an easter present for everyone, but my bf came out
to visit and since I only get to see him a few days in a month…he took top
priority. Lol, but don’t worry he making sure I
update this story. He likes hearing the number of reviews I get to even if he’s
never seen or heard of Inuyasha.
