Chapter Four
One month of living in Sesshoumaru’s home and Kagome felt completely miserable and ready to return to her friends. Since being shown to her room she hadn’t left since, she had everything she needed in there. She hadn’t noticed at her first glance, but she had found another door which lead to her own personal bathroom. It even had a toilet designed just like the ones in her time and a servant came and filled up her bath every afternoon so she could wash up. Sure having all those types of luxuries in the feudal era was nice, but she was missing having friends to talk with and the freedom she had to move about when she wanted. She hadn’t even seen Rin since arriving, but she remembered Sesshoumaru saying in her dream that the girl now lived in a village. A whole month of no one to talk to and no fresh air was getting to her. She had not seen the taiyoukai since he left her in her room; he had not come to visit their son, which bothered her greatly. He had said back in Kaede’s hut that they would work on becoming more than what they were, but he had completely ignored her and their son since arriving at his home. Their son was still nameless and she was getting upset the more days that passed by. Kagome sighed and looked at her son as he slept peacefully in his crib. He was her only friend and a constant companion. He had started smiling and absolutely loved when she played with him. She had found toys in the nightstand that she used to play with him and he giggled plenty when she blew raspberries on his stomach and tickled him. She felt herself sigh again “you need a name and I’m not going to wait anymore for daddy to help me to do it” she had been debating on names after she had gotten over the fact she was now a mother and as time went on her name list got smaller “hmm Jiyuu? No that doesn’t suit you…suits me though” she mumbled, “I’m in need of freedom. Hmm Sabishii?” she shook her head “no that means lonely and that’s what I am” she groaned, “I need something that suits you. How about Misuterareta?” she gave a sad smile when he squirmed, a sign he was waking up “that name seems suiting after all it seems your daddy has not only abandoned me, but he abandoned his very own son, his flesh and blood” gently she reached in and picked him up before he could start to cry, holding her close to him, and exposing her breast to feed him “hmm maybe Kiseki that seems suiting, you are a miracle” she gave a small laugh when he hit her breast while he suckled “guess you don’t want that name, huh?…what to call you then” she sighed “it’s hard picking a name” her eyes widened and she looked down at him with a smile “I know what to name you, Kishi” He moved his head from her breast and smiled at her. Kagome smiled “alright that’s going to be your name. You are my miracle, but in this place you are my knight” she said to him softly “you are the only thing that’s keeping me from losing my mind while in this room day in and day out” she leaned in and nuzzled her noise to his “you are my Kishi” hearing a knock she looked up “yes?” “I have your supper milady” a female’s voice spoke. “One moment” Kagome replied. Turning she laid Kishi down on the bed and wrapped him up in the blanket. Even though Sesshoumaru never came around, she felt it was best to listen to him. Obviously he gave the rules as a way to protect her and their son, but she still wished he would come by so she could talk with him about everything that was going on and tell him how she felt about being cooped up all day for days on end. She didn’t even know how to get into contact with him since she wasn’t allowed to talk with the servants except for telling them they could enter or not. Sighing, something she started doing a lot in the past month, she looked at the door “you can enter now” The young female opened the door, kneeling in the hall; she then picked up the tray and stood up to enter. She crossed the room and placed the tray on the table before turning about and leaving without saying a word or a glance in the miko’s direction. Kagome frowned as she uncovered her son and began to change him. She loved her son, but she wasn’t sure how much longer she was going to be able to continue to live this solitude life. She was used to being around people and having someone to talk with and this quiet life of having no one to talk to was starting to get to her, but she knew she had to stay strong for her son. Finishing changing her son, she lay down next to him and touched his fingers, smiling as he reached out to grab her fingers. Watching him like this she began to miss her mother, wishing she could talk with her mother and see her mother’s face when she learned she was a grandmother now. Kagome felt tears starting to run down her face “I wish you could have met your grandma, she would have loved you” Seven months later, Jaken was ordering the guards around and making sure everything was running smoothly. The lords from the neighboring lands were visiting his lord and talking about the new heir of the western lands that had been born. Hearing his name he turned to see a young female servant with short black hair and dark brown eyes walk up to him, a worried expression on her face “what is it you want woman? Can’t you see I’m busy?” She bowed to him “forgive me, but the lady upstairs is not answering-” “Of course she’s not, she is not to be talking to servants,” he snapped. “I understand sir” she said “but when I knocked on the door to deliver her lunch she did not respond and the baby is currently crying. It sounded quite stressed, I believe something maybe wrong” Jaken was silent a moment as he glared at the girl. Normally he wouldn’t want to be bothered with something so trivial, but this was his lord’s son and the woman was the mother. Grumbling he started walking to the stairs “follow me” he ordered. Once upstairs he walked up to the woman’s room, hearing the infant wailing and knocked on the door “open the door girl” a moment past and he got no answer, so he knocked again, speaking a little louder “girl, open the door!” again he got no answer. Now he was growing concerned so he opened the door and let himself in, seeing the crying infant still in the crib, he looked around “girl…girl, where are you?” he let himself fully into the room and looked around, noticing blood drops he followed them and gasped at what he found. On the floor by the side of the bed was the woman and unconscious, lying in a pool of blood. Quickly he ran to her side and checked her pulse, finding one, he then looked for where the blood was coming from. It took a moment, but he found a deep cut on the back of her knee “Servant get in here now!” he heard the woman enter and gasp when she saw the blood “I need you to roll her over and apply pressure to her wound till the healer arrives. No one is to touch the infant till his lord gets here, is that understood?” She nodded “yes Jaken” The toad youkai ran off quickly to fetch the healer and once finishing that task he stopped in front of the room his lord was in with the other lords. Taking a deep breath he knocked on the door and waited to be called in. Once inside, Jaken bowed to all the lords present before looking at his lord “forgive my interruption my lord, but you are urgently needed” Sesshoumaru glanced at him “it will have to wait, I am busy” Jaken became nervous “I-huh, you see milord-” “What is it Jaken?” he question, his tone suggesting it had better be important or the toad was going to die. “It is the female you brought home with you eight months ago milord” Jaken answered quickly “she has some how gotten gravely injured” Turning his head, the taiyoukai shot him a glare “explain, now!” he snarled. “I am unsure my lord. I found her near her bed, injured and unconscious” he replied nervously “I have sent the healer there now, I’m unsure the extent of her injuries, but they looked quite severe to me” The eastern lord frowned and looked at the other lords to see them looking concerned as well. Just like him, they had guessed that the woman the annoying toad was talking about was obviously the mother of the taiyoukai’s son. They had known that the western lord had had a son after a letter had been sent out to them, but this was the first time all of them had been able to gather to discuss why they had gotten such a sudden notice that the lord was even expecting an infant when they thought he had no female in mind. In fact, they had just agreed that the taiyoukai would tell the mother of their presence and they would meet the future heir the next day. Seems like they wouldn’t get that chance now if the mother were seriously injured and especially if she died of her injuries. “Sesshoumaru, go check on your son’s mother” the northern lord said “I’m sure you don’t like the idea of other people being in the room with your son while his mother cannot protect him at the moment” Sesshoumaru gave a nod “I will be back once I have checked on my son” Once the western lord was gone, the northern lord chuckled and looked over at the eastern lord “well Edoksu what do you say about all this?” Edoksu leaned back with a smirk. He looked like he could be Sesshoumaru’s dark twin, only the eastern lord was two hundred years older. They looked almost exactly alike except he had black hair and silver eyes. It was also said he showed more expression than that of his silver haired cousin. That is right, all the youkai lords were related “I’m not sure yet Naylor, certainly seems interesting. I only hope we get to meet this female that gave birth to his son” Naylor nodded. He was the northern lord and oldest of all the lords. He had long silver hair that was done in a high ponytail and the common golden eyes that his family was known to have. He was well built and looked to be in his late 40’s, but he was actually almost 900yrs old. His brothers and him had owned the lands for centuries, but now he was the only one left of the brothers. The lands now belonged to his nephews and so far they had been taking care of their lands quite well so he often stayed out of their business unless he was asked. He sighed, “so do I” he looked over at his other nephew, Sanji, the southern lord, he was the older of his nephews “what do you think?” Sanji shrugged “it does not matter to me” Naylor grumbled to himself. Sanji had always been indifferent about anything that did not concern him. His personality was like Sesshoumaru’s only everyone found it twice as bad for he showed absolutely no emotion while at least the western lord showed a little. Sanji had the silver hair that the inu youkai of their kind had, but had dark orange eyes. Every inu youkai from their clan bore the crescent moon symbol. “I do wonder why Sesshoumaru chose this female to give birth to his son” Edoksu wonder out loud “he never did tell us” “I’m sure he has a reasonable explanation” Naylor reasoned, “it’s not like him to pick anything he’d consider imperfect” Meanwhile, Sesshoumaru entered the room where he had placed his son and the girl when they first arrived. He had not been in this room since nor had he even considered coming into this room. As he saw it this was the female’s room and she was busy raising their son. He was not going to disrupt that besides he was doing his duty to protect them by patrolling his lands and keeping away any who would attempt to threaten them. He froze at the doorway when the heavy scent of blood reached his nose. Scanning the room he saw the healer beside the bed where the girl was lying, checking her pulse. He noticed on the far side of the bed there were two servants on their knees and assumed they were cleaning up the blood. He then looked towards the crib where he could hear his son screaming as loud as he could as his small hands reached out before clenching. “Milord” said the healer, an elderly male inu youkai with red eyes and short gray hair. Sesshoumaru looked at him “what is the extent of her injuries?” “A single cut on her right leg” he answered “she lost a fair amount of blood before she was found if she had been left alone any longer she would have died. I have been able to close the wound and she should be fine, a bit weak, but should recover after a few days of bed rest” The taiyoukai gave a nod “do you know how the injury was occurred?” The healer frowned “while the servants here were cleaning one found a sharp knife under the bed” “I see,” he said with a small growl before he walked over to his son. Peering in the crib he saw his son had doubled in size and seemed more alert than he was in the beginning “how is my son?” “Jaken-sama told us none were to go near him till you arrived” the healer replied “but I thought it was best I took a look anyways in case he was injured as well. He is fine though and uninjured, I believe he is crying like he is because he can smell his mother’s blood so strongly and is upset by it” “Hnn” was all the taiyoukai said and continued to watch his son cry as hard as he possibly could. About an hour later, the room smelled less of blood, the servants left and he was alone with his son to stare at. His son cries had become quieter as the scent of blood had begun to disappear. A little while after he left the room and summoned Jaken, once the toad arrived, he gave his orders “get a servant to bring me my son, he will be meeting the other lords today, and stay with that servant” Assured his orders would be followed, Sesshoumaru left and returned to where the other lords were patiently waiting “shall we continue” Naylor looked at his nephew with a frown “are you not going to tell us how your son and his mother are doing?” “My son is fine,” he answered. Edoksu raised an eyebrow “and his mother?” “Should be fine as well,” he replied with a tone that said drop the subject. Naylor stared at the western lord. Did his nephew have no compassion? He found it hard to believe this was his brother’s son. At least his brother cared for others. Sighing he nodded “very well we shall continue” A few minutes later there was a knock on the door and the servant came in carrying an upset infant that was squirming and waving his arms in an attempt to get out of the woman’s arms. It was apparent he did not like being held and through his tiny sobs a tiny, constant, growl could be heard. Edoksu chuckled “well he certainly is a feisty little thing, isn’t he?” “I’ll say” Naylor agreed “bring him here, I want to have a look at him” The servant looked at her lord to receive the word it was okay. Seeing her lord nod she walked over to the northern lord and handed the young pup into the arms of the inu youkai. Naylor smiled as he held his new family member. Chuckling when he felt how strong the pup was already as he fought to get out of his arms “my, my he is a strong little guy” Sanji sneered, “he looks like he’ll be a disobedient whelp” Sesshoumaru growled “I’d be silent if I were you” “Now, now you two” Edoksu said calmly “this is a happy time. Sesshoumaru finally has an heir after so long” The northern lord laughed as he held the small pup away from him to get a better look at the little guy “a strong and healthy pup too” It was then a loud thudding sound was heard and a servant screamed and began calling for someone to get the healer. The four lords stood up and left the room, the scent of blood instantly hitting their nose. Immediately the pup began to up his crying into full-blown wails. There at the bottom of the stairs was the form of a pale skinned woman sprawled out on the floor with her thick black hair covering her face, seemingly unconscious. “What happened?” Sesshoumaru growled at the young female servant that was near the woman. The servant looked up, shaking “I am unsure my lord. I was merely walking by when I caught her hitting the floor out of the corner of my eye. She must have fallen down the stairs” Sanji growled darkly “cousin, I knew you had that little human girl with you for awhile, but now you keep a human woman with you?” Edoksu ignored his cousin and moved to kneel down next to the girl. He checked her pulse and checked her head for any injuries. Finding none he then noticed her kimono was torn and she had a wound at the back of her knee. He took a closer look and noticed that it was deep and it had already been recently stitched “she’s alive” “That is good” Naylor sighed, he had been worried that if she was dead he was going to have to take the infant away. No baby should see a dead body. He felt the pup squirming harder than he had before, but figured the little guy didn’t like to smell blood and couldn’t say he blamed him. He didn’t like the smell either, especially of an innocent being. The woman then stirred and attempted to move. Edoksu held her shoulders to keep her from moving any further “stay still milady, you’ve had a terrible fall and a healer is on his way” frowning when the girl said nothing, but continued to try and get up “milady you are hurt and in need of care, you should not move or you’ll make your injuries worse” Hearing the baby cry, she mumbled quietly “Kishi” “Kishi?” Naylor repeated, understanding that was obviously a name “who is Kishi?” he looked at the servant woman as she was applying pressure to the girl’s wound “is there a Kishi that works here? A solider or perhaps her mate?” The servant shook her head “I know no one of that name, my lord” “Kishi” she said again, her voice sounding broken. Edoksu looked at his uncle with worry and concern “we’d better find this Kishi” Naylor nodded and looked at Sesshoumaru as he merely stared at the woman “do you know who Kishi is?” “I do not” he replied, “she has never spoken that name before” “You know her?” the northern lord questioned, but then realized that was a dumb question since this was his nephew’s home “who is she?” Sesshoumaru’s eyes never left the woman as she tried to get up “she use to travel with my half brother and has been living with me for the past eight months” Edoksu frowned and gently helped the girl sit up “with your brother huh? She sure is strong for a human. That fall should have killed her” “Kishi” she mumbled, tears starting to escape her eyes as she stared at the ground before her, but not really seeing what was before her. The healer then appeared and frowned “didn’t I just close her wound?” he shook his head and kneeled down next to the girl. Noticing her stitches had come out he sighed and looked for any injury that may have been caused in her fall. After a few minutes to make sure nothing was broken, he spoke “she may get some bruises and a bump on the head, but I don’t feel anything is broken. I’ll need her to be brought up to her room and I’ll re-stitch her wound” Edoksu nodded and tried to think of a way to pick her up without hurting her wound any more. As he started to move his arms so he’d be able to lift her she moved his hands away from her. He found that while she seemed not all there she was apparently determined to do whatever it was she had to do “milady, who is Kishi? Perhaps we can help you find this person” Kagome attempted to stand up, but the wound on her leg made it difficult, but she wanted her son. It was why she fell in the first place. When she had awoken, the room had been quiet and something had seemed out of place. It didn’t take her long to figure out her son was missing and when she had tried to get out of the bed she realized how weak she was and had no choice, but to crawl. She had crawled to the stairs, but when she attempted to use the railing to help her walk down she had gotten a sharp pain in her leg and with her weakened state she wasn’t able to grip properly and she fell. Now she could hear her son and knew he was close, but the fall left her dizzy and not really able to focus properly. Then she heard people, something she hadn’t heard in so long, and she found she could only say her son’s name “Kishi” she grew frustrated when that was all she could say and began to cry “Kishi!” Naylor frowned as he watched his nephew try to pick up the girl only to have her push his hands away. Apparently she had no intention of going anywhere till this, Kishi, was found. He walked over to her and knelt down while rearranging the pup that was still fighting to get put down “relax my dear, we’ll help you find this Kishi” Kagome gave a small smile as her eyes began to focus better and her hand reached out to touch the young infant’s arm “Kishi” she said softly “my Kishi” “Forgive me my lords,” said the healer “but her wound needs to be cleaned and stitched” Naylor said nothing, but watched as the pup seemed to stop struggling against him and his crying lessoned. Putting two and two together, his eyes widened in realization before he looked at her and smiled softly “Kishi is just fine” he assured as he brought the boy closer to her “see he is safe” Kagome’s smile grew when she saw her son. She had been so scared when she had noticed he was missing and she hadn’t known what to do or who to get “Kishi” “Now my dear, my nephew here is going to pick you up and carry you back to your room so the healer can fix your wound” he explained to her “and don’t you worry I’ll bring Kishi right behind you” Edoksu slowly moved to grasp her shoulders and when she didn’t push him away again he maneuvered himself so he could pick her up. Once she was in his arms, being careful of her injury, he had the healer lead him back to the woman’s room where he set her on the bed. “Kishi” she said as she started looking around. “He’s right here,” Naylor said as he set the baby in her arms. The healer moved next to the woman and began to disinfect the wound and stitch her back up “I must say she does show a strong will of survival” “To that I must agree,” said the northern lord as he looked over at the western lord. He noticed how quiet his nephew was and how he barely looked away from the female. It made him wonder if his nephew had feelings for the woman. “Now young lady” said the healer in a stern tone “you have to stay in this bed for the next few days till your wound is healed, do not move your leg too much or you’ll tear open your stitches” Kagome’s nod was the only sign she gave that she heard him. Her focus for the moment was on her son as his eyes never left her, moving his hands up and down, and laughed happily. She was so happy that he was safe and she kissed the crescent mark on his forehead. Edoksu observed mother and son with a smile on his face as he was reminded of how his mate was with their son when he was first born “well he certainly loves his mother” Naylor chuckled “that is for certain” he then sighed, “we should go and let her rest. She must be tired after such an exciting day” The others nodded and left the room, except for Sesshoumaru. He waited till the lords and healer left before he approached the female “care to explain your behavior?” Kagome glanced at him, but said nothing. Back when she first arrived there had been so much she wanted to ask and talk to the taiyoukai about, but as the time dragged on she began to care less and less. He didn’t care about her in the slightest and he apparently did not want anything to do with his son. He had tricked her into having his heir only to ignore them after. He was exactly like every other male in the feudal era and he thought the same way as well; women were meant to have children, cook, and clean. That was to be a female’s life in this time period. He had said they would raise their son together and work on becoming more than just two people raising a child; that was a lie, she realized that now. She felt like such a fool for believing him, believing that he was different than the males of this time, but the reality was that he was a male born in feudal era Japan and so it would stand to reason that he would be just like the other males of this time. “Kagome, answer me” Sesshoumaru spoke, bringing her from her thoughts. Again she glanced at him, but said nothing. She wasn’t even sure how this all came around. She had seen the knife on the floor and figured the servant must have dropped it from the steak dinner she had had the night before. She could remember staring at it and seeing how sharp it was then her mind went blank. The next thing she knew she was bleeding and didn’t know what to do. The taiyoukai had said she wasn’t to talk to anyone and she wasn’t sure what would happen if she did, even if she was injured. She tried to make her way to the bed to use the sheets to apply pressure to her wound, but she had begun to feel dizzy and as she saw the ground coming to greet her, she passed out. Sesshoumaru growled at her lack of communication “Kagome, you will answer me” She turned her sights to him once more and kept them there. She studied his posture and his emotionless expression. Everything about him said he only cared about three things, his land, his status and himself. No one else mattered beyond that and it was that fact that made her grow concerned for the safety of her son. If he were ever to make his father mad there was no telling what the consequence of that would be. “I am growing impatient” the taiyoukai said, “explain your behavior” Kagome frowned as she stared at him. This was the first time he’d come to see them and he hadn’t even looked at his son. Her eyes began to water at the thought that the taiyoukai did not care for their son in the slightest and was perhaps ashamed that he had him to begin with. With a sad sigh, she wiped away the tears threatening to fall and settled further into the covers while bringing her son closer to her. She would protect him, no matter what it was that dared to threaten him. She heard the taiyoukai snarl and say he’d return later to get his answers, but she gave no indication she heard him. Once he was gone, Kagome rolled on to her back and placed Kishi on her stomach while he lay there comfortably she thought about everything. She could not continue to live like she had been. Living day in and day out in one room constantly was getting to her and the wound on her leg proved that her mind was starting to become unstable. She needed to get out before she seriously ended up injuring herself. Frowning she looked at her son, yes, she needed to get out of this imprisonment, she could not allow anything to happen to herself that could end up leaving her son alone. Sighing she nodded to herself. When she was healed she was going to get her freedom and she didn’t care what it would take to get it just so long as she got it in the end. Kishi gurgled to himself and Kagome smiled. She would get her freedom and she was not going to leave her son to become some heartless jerk like his father was. She would raise him to be a proper man and every feudal era girls dream guy. Hearing a noise, Kagome turned her head to see a tall and slender woman at the door and she frowned in confusion. This woman was clearly a youkai and she assumed she was an inu for it seemed that’s all there was in this place. The woman had long wavy black hair that stopped short of touching the ground even though she had her hair done up in a high ponytail, done with a red ribbon. Her skin was pale, almost white looking and her eyes were a light pink color. Her red silk kimono with a black sash was quite beautiful showing that she was someone of high status and Kagome thought the woman looked beautiful, but she did question to her self as to why the woman could possibly be in her room. The woman gave a pretentious smile “you don’t have to talk I know our lord ordered you to not talk to anyone, so you can just listen” Kagome frowned, suddenly worried for the safety of her son. She noticed he had become quiet when that woman entered as if he sensed her fear, however little it was. For that she was grateful. She did not want this woman near her son. “I am only here to tell you the truth about why you are here” she said. True reason why she was here? Kagome had been wondering why Sesshoumaru had chosen her to have his son. His explanation when they were at Kaede’s hut had seemed the truth and she had believed him, but now, eight months of being ignored by him. She doubt his words and had been asking herself many times what the true reason was of why he choose her. The thought that it was his way of getting back at Inuyasha to hurt him had crossed her mind many times and the longer he avoided them, the more solid her belief became. The woman continued to stand at the doorway “My name is Hime and I am the favored concubine of our lord. Sesshoumaru-sama has the pick of any girl he wants. He has many concubines to sate his need and to relieve any stress, but none of us have been able to bare him children. He needed one, a son, to take over should something ever happen to him” she went and leaned against the doorway with a distant look in her eyes “he had wanted me to give birth to that son because I am the strongest female he has of his concubines. With my background and his own, our son was assured to be the strongest youkai…possibly even a rival to our lord’s deceased father” Kagome’s frown grew and she looked at the woman with curiosity. Hime noticed and looked at the girl in the bed “you are curious as to why I have no son” seeing the girl nod, she gave a small smile “I seem unable to give our lord the son he so desires and the other concubines couldn’t give him one either. You were his last resort to getting a son and now that he has his son, he is simply waiting for him to be weaned off your milk so that I can assume the role of his mother" Kagome’s eyes widened and she felt herself go pale as the dread she felt grew. He was going to take their son away from her and give him to this whore to raise as her own. She remembered from reading books that it could be done and in feudal Japan it wasn’t unheard of. “I bet you never noticed, but your son is a full blooded inu youkai” Hime mentioned, “the difference between a hanyou and a full blood youkai is quite easy to notice. True youkai have markings on their skin and we can hold a more human looking form. The only thing that gives us away is our pointed ears” Kagome looked at her son and for the first time realized he had pointed ears. Could it be true that her son was not a hanyou? She had always figured that since she was human and Sesshoumaru was a full-blooded youkai that obviously the two of them together would make a half demon child, a hanyou. “It is rare for a human such as your self to give birth to a true youkai” Hime continued as she stared at the girl “but it is not unheard of. It is said that a true youkai can only be born from a miko when she sleeps with a youkai in her dreams. No one is sure how that can be possible, but it can be done” reaching into her sleeve she pulled out a small, but thick book “here, everything I have told you about our lord’s son being a full blooded youkai is in this book” she winked “I took it so you could read it for yourself” Kagome gave a small nod and watched as the woman came into her room, but placed the book at the end of the bed so she kept her distance, which made the young miko happy. Knowing this woman was going to be raising her son did not make her feel comfortable to be too close to her. Hime moved back to the door “well I should go, I’ve told you the truth of why you are here. I believe I heard my lord tell the other lords that when his son was weaned you’d be going back to your old life before you gave birth to his son” Kagome watched the woman leave and when the door was shut, she let herself cry, being as silent as she could. Feeling Kishi squirm against her she lifted him up so she looked into his eyes. She smiled through her tears when she saw his innocent young eyes look at her and she knew she couldn’t let what that woman said come true. She was going to heal and when she had her strength back…she was going to escape. The next two days she spent in bed, she planned her escape. Sesshoumaru had never come back like he said he would and she was fine with that. She didn’t want to see him anyways. Kishi was never far from her side. She had read the book that Hime woman had brought her, but it didn’t say much more than what the woman had said about a miko being able to give birth to a full youkai through dreams, but reading it for herself only made her think she was a fool all the more. How could she have let herself been tricked? It was obvious the dreams were different, but she had ignored it and now she was dealing with the consequence of it. Kagome heard her door being opened and turned her head to see the healer. He had been the only other person she’d seen. Those other men that had brought her and Kishi back to her room had never come back, but then again, if they had she wouldn’t even know what they looked like. She had been so dizzy from her fall that she hadn’t focused on anything, but finding her son and when she had found him, he was all she could see. “How are we today, milady?” the healer asked, frowning when he got no answer “I see you are still not talking” Kagome only looked at him before she held her son closer to her. The healer’s frown deepened. He’d noticed she seemed more subdued, but at the same time more alert of her surrounding area. He’d seen her when she first arrived with his lord and noticed she had changed since then. The first time he saw her he could see that her type was one that enjoyed the company of others and had a kind and caring face. She had seemed quite relax, if a bit nervous, even though she was a human surrounded by youkai. Since that time he had not seen her anywhere since his lord brought the girl upstairs. When he had been summoned saying that a girl was wounded and had serious blood loss he had been shocked seeing the young girl on the floor, encircled by her own blood. He had worked quickly to clean the infected area and stitch it. When he had left he did not think he was going to be summoned so soon and was again shocked to see it was the young girl again, but this time at the bottom of the stairs where the other lords were trying to prevent her from moving around. He noticed she looked defeated and worn out as if she didn’t care about her own life. It made him wonder what happened during all that time since he’d first seen her for her to turn out as he saw her now. Her eyes held such distrust and she seemed to be nervous now around him and the servants that entered. He sighed as he removed the sheets, lifting up her sleeping gown and checked her wound behind her knee “seems to be healing quite nicely” he said as he looked at her. Kagome just continued to stare at him. She didn’t believe anything Sesshoumaru had told her in Kaede’s hut, but she would follow his order not to talk to any of the servants and a healer was a servant to the lord. She couldn’t wait until she was healed so she could get out of this horrible place. “Well a few more days of rest and I’ll be able to take the stitches out,” he said as he then stood up. He looked at the girl for a moment before turning his sights to the infant at her side. She continued to cover the pup from anyone’s gaze who entered the room, but from the sound of the small growling, the pup was well aware that there was a stranger nearby. For it to be showing territorial behavior meant that its’ sense of smell was very developed and it was very alert of its surroundings “quite the pup, you must be very proud of him” Kagome gave a single nod, but didn’t say anything. The healer shook his head sadly “well I will be back to check on you tomorrow” So it was for the next two weeks the healer came, checked her wound for any sign of infection, and eventually it was healed enough that he took out the stitches. During that time Kagome worked on regaining her strength and when the servant brought her food, she saved whatever she could. Soon she was feeling like her old self and planned her escape for that night. Kagome ate her supper and waited for the servant to come in to take her tray. Sure enough after she was finished the servant came in and took her tray. Waiting a few minutes, she eventually got up and began gathering her things. She took her sheet and placed it on the floor before going to the closet and gathering a few kimonos. She put on a dark blue kimono that she felt would help hide her better in the dark. She then knelt down next to her bed and pulled out the food she had set aside for her journey before placing it on the sheet. She smiled when she heard Kishi making noises and laughing to himself. Standing up she walked over to the crib and watched him as he played with his fist, putting them into his mouth and then laughing. Shaking her head she then went back to packing up their stuff, including her son’s toys and clothes that servants had brought in once a month. She sighed at the thought she was going to have to figure out how she was going to continue to clothe him and make sure he had toys, especially when he began to teethe. Kagome quickly tied up the sheet and set it close to the door. She then looked around and tried to think if she was forgetting anything. Seeing nothing she needed she reached into the crib and picked up her son, taking him and setting him on the floor while she sat down near him. She noticed he was trying to make the effort to sit up so she helped him and watched as he looked at her and laughed, showing his happiness. His hands patted the ground enthusiastically…a little too enthusiastically and he began to fall over. Laughing Kagome caught him before he could hurt himself. After a few hours, Kagome peeked her head out of the door and didn’t see a single person moving. She knew this could be difficult seeing as she was in a place full of youkai and they had an excellent sense of smell, but she had to try and get out. She could not let her son live in a place like this or grow up to become a lying dishonorable man like his father. Quickly as she could she got a sleeping Kishi and put him into a sling she made from the blanket in his crib and took the first blanket Sesshoumaru had given him and made sure he was covered. She made sure he was still sleeping before she opened the door. She then grabbed the sheet with their stuff and exited the room, making sure she closed the door behind her. Being as silent as she could she cautiously made her way down the stairs, checking and making sure there was no one around. Seeing that there was not a soul in sight she made her way to the front door. Remembering how to get to the front door she made her way there with no problem and left the taiyoukai’s home, taking a deep breath of fresh air for the first time in over eight months. She looked around, trying to find out where the guards were, and smiled when she didn’t see any. She wasn’t sure why she wasn’t finding any guards, but she wasn’t about to wait and find out. Moving as quickly as she could with a baby and their things, she ran to the front gate, where she saw two guards and silently cursed. Of course there would be guards at the entrance to the home. She started to walk along the side of the wall, looking for some way to get over. Reaching the end of the wall she frowned, but she wasn’t going to let it stop her and so she continued to follow the wall along the side and soon found boxed neatly stacked against the wall. Moving a box or two to make herself steps to help her get up, she then climbed up them as carefully as she could so she wouldn’t hurt Kishi. Kagome gave a deep, calming breath when she finally reached the top of the wall. Taking a moment she tried to figure the best way to get down the other side without hurting her self or her son. After another moment she dropped the sheets with their stuff in it then she attempted to lower herself as close as she could to ground before letting go of the wall. Hitting the ground she felt herself falling forward and quickly twisted her body so she landed on her back. Holding her breath when she felt Kishi squirming against her and making protesting noises. He soon settled back down and she released her breath as she stood up, grabbing the makeshift bag, she stood still a moment and started thinking which way to go. If she walked towards where the front gate was, but continued to walk straight she would eventually find Kaede’s village. Kagome started to move in that direction, but instantly paused when an important factor entered her head. It wouldn’t be long before Sesshoumaru noticed she was missing and that she had their son. The servant would come into her room to bring her breakfast and when they noticed she wasn’t there they would go running to the taiyoukai. Either he wouldn’t do anything or he would immediately begin searching for her. Well she didn’t think he wouldn’t do anything, she did have their son that was his heir and so she guessed that he would start to hunt her down to get his son back. It would stand to reason that the first place he would look would be the village because, truth be told, she didn’t know where else to go and that would be where she would go. She was sure her friends would protect her from him, but she didn’t want any of them to be hurt because of her. She frowned as she realized she couldn’t do that to her friends, she couldn’t ask them for help with her problems anymore. She was a mother now and it was time she stopped acting like a child and expecting to be helped. Squaring her shoulders she immediately turned around and began walking in the other direction. She didn’t want to alert anyone of her presence and once she was assured she was far enough away she began running as fast as she could. Zigzagging every once in awhile in hopes of confusing anyone who could end up following and when she found a shallow stream she entered it and walked up stream for a bit before continuing on her way. By midmorning she figured she’d traveled far enough that she could rest for a bit. Kishi was wide awake and seemed to be enjoying the outdoor scenery, both the sights and the smells. She fed him and changed him while she relaxed before picking everything back up and continuing on her away. It must have been a few more hours before she came across an old small hut that looked abandoned. Cautiously she approached it, being aware of her surroundings and making sure everything was safe. Stepping closer to the hut she peered in a window and saw that it was indeed abandoned and had been for some time. It would do for now until she could find something better. A female servant knocked on the door and waited a moment. Since the lady had stopped speaking completely and since she had been found dying on the floor of her room, any servant that brought her meals now knocked on the door, waited a moment so the lady could do what she had to, and then they were to enter. Opening the door, she picked up the tray and walked into the room. Straight away she could tell the scent in the room was old and quickly put the tray on the table. Looking at the bed she found it a mess and empty. She felt fear growing within her and she walked over to the crib only to find it empty as well, not wanting to over react she quickly opened up the bathroom and found it empty. Panic rose within her and she immediately ran out of the room, down the stairs, yelling for the head servant. Sesshoumaru stared at his uncle that had arrived that morning. He listened as the northern lord talked about wanting to see his son “you have already seen him” “Yes, but I would like to get to know the boy” Naylor said “I have every right to get to know my second nephew” The taiyoukai was about to reply when the door was opened and Jaken came running into the room, looking like he’d run a great deal “Jaken, your interruption had better be reasonable” “Sesshoumaru-sama!” the toad breathed, “the girl and your son are missing!” “What do you mean missing?” he asked calmly, inside he was beginning to feel a rage build within him. Naylor listened with great interest and worry. He figured the girl that was being mentioned was the wounded girl he’d met, but what he was wondering was, why would the girl run away? He had never heard of a woman giving birth to a lord’s child only to run away with it after raising the child for almost a year. “A servant went to bring the female her breakfast and discovered they were gone” he explained, nervously “their scents are hours old” “Hours?” the taiyoukai repeated as his eyes began to bleed red. She took off with their son and he’d never noticed? He snarled, “I want her FOUND!” Jaken shook at the anger he felt coming from his lord. Never before had he’d seen the taiyoukai so angry nor had he ever heard the taiyoukai raise his voice. He quickly bowed and hurried to the door “right away milord!” The northern lord heard the toad leave, but his sight never left the angry form of his nephew. He couldn’t recall a time that he’d seen Sesshoumaru so angry and he had a feeling the taiyoukai was not simply angry over the fact the woman had taken his son, but that she had fled as well and probably wasn’t sure why she had left. Well he’d help him figure it out and learn the truth while he was at it. He cleared his throat to get the attention of his nephew “tell me nephew, why would the female want to leave this place? And take your son with her?” Sesshoumaru turned his red gaze to his uncle, but did not answer him. Naylor raised an eyebrow “have you not been kind to the mother of your son?” “She’s been fed, dressed, and given the best room to rest in” he growled “what more could there be to offer” The northern lord frowned. Did his nephew know nothing? No, apparently not. His nephew had never been with a woman that was to be considered on equal terms, so it would stand to reason he would not know how to keep one happy. Shaking his head he looked at his nephew curiously “was she happy?” a growl was his answer “are you unable to answer such a simple question?” another, darker growl “very well I believe I am able to figure out what has happened and will answer it for you” Sesshoumaru snarled dangerously in warning “you know nothing of this!” “It doesn’t take a genius to figure it out” Naylor growled “all I have to know is you and I’ve known you since your birth, so I have a feeling I know exactly what had happened here” he stood up and moved right in front of the taiyoukai “for whatever reason you have chosen this female, you got her pregnant, and then you treated her like you treat your concubines!” the inu youkai had little warning when he was suddenly knocked to the floor and pinned by one now extremely pissed off western lord. “I have never treated her as a concubine!” he snarled. Hearing his uncle suggest that he treated the woman as a whore had set him over the edge and he could feel the burning rage growing stronger. Naylor raised an unconcerned eyebrow “I have never seen her accompany you anywhere since visiting you and I noticed that when she was searching for her son she didn’t even acknowledge you” his nephew snarled and applied more pressure to his shoulders, but he continued to speak his assumption “she didn’t even give you a glance and I was outside the room when you asked her to explain her behavior, she didn’t even answer you. She looked like a woman worse than death!” He growled out “what did you do, keep her locked in a room and never visit her or your son?!” Sesshoumaru felt his transformation building as his anger rose to new heights. He had never before felt such anger and he dug his growing claws into the flesh of his father’s brother “silence!” The northern lord’s eyes widen when he realized he had hit a nerve and he was shocked into a stunned calm “you did, didn’t you? You kept her in that room and you never went to see her or your son, you put her in a room to be forgotten” “I said silence!” he snarled, “I will hear no more!” “But you will” Naylor growled “you didn’t even go see your son?! You’re son has been on this earth for nearly a year and you have never gone to see him?” “SILENCE!” Sesshoumaru roared as he felt his bones beginning to shift. “I will not be silent!” he growled, “I’m right, aren’t I? I suddenly don’t blame her for wanting to leave this place. This place probably doesn’t feel like a home to her, but a prison. Was she not allowed outside? Was she not allowed company? Did you not allow her to speak to anyone?” he felt the raw power of his nephew, but he continued “isolation for long periods of time can drive eventually anyone to want to kill themselves! To do anything to get out of the nightmare they’ve been placed in and that’s exactly what she was doing when we came to see your son! She was trying to kill herself to get away from you!” Suddenly Sesshoumaru felt the snap within him and he became a ball of light, speeding out of his home. Once outside he started to grow. Naylor quickly got on his feet and rushed outside where he saw the servants outside running to get out of their lord’s way while the guards were backing up in fear of the rage they could feel pouring off their lord. He watched as the ball of light started to let off a cloudy smoke, as it grew larger and larger. Eventually the light and smoke cleared revealing a seven story tall white dog that immediately raised his head towards the sky and began howling. Naylor stared at his nephew with concern and looked down at the toad that had appeared by his side “Jaken, what is this girl to Sesshoumaru?” “I do not know milord” Jaken said as he watched his lord howl “all I know is she is a strange human that traveled with Sesshoumaru-sama’s brother plus a taijiya, a monk, a fire cat and a young kitsune. She has stood up to my lord many times and they were enemies” “How did he get her to agree to baring his son?” he asked. “I do not know that either milord” the toad frowned “but I believe he may have used dreams. I think this because my lord was never in the company of any female and especially his son’s mother” Naylor’s eyes widened “dreams? He used dreams to impregnate her?” his concern then grew as he looked back at his raging nephew. What the hell was going on? Sesshoumaru had never explained how he had come to having a son; only saying that one had been born. The others had tried getting the information from the taiyoukai, but he had never answered them and now he knew why. His nephew had tricked the girl and he quickly shook his head, no, that is not something his nephew would do. His nephew was a proud youkai that valued honor; he’d never do anything so low “tell me Jaken, did she know what was happening to her?” Jaken looked at the northern lord “I didn’t even know that my lord had conceived a son until we went to pick her up and then I saw the infant” “How could you not know?” Naylor asked as he looked at the toad “from the looks of that room she stayed in, he knew for awhile. He had that room especially made for her” “I am used to my lord taking off with out me” Jaken replied, “he must have been preparing everything during that time” Naylor sighed and watched as his nephew stopped howling to start snarling while pawing at the ground with his long sharp claws. Moving quickly he ran in front of the inu youkai and used a small green energy blast to get the dog’s attention “Sesshoumaru, look at me and listen closely. I will help you find your son, but you have to tell me what is going on between you and your son’s mother!” Sesshoumaru snarled at the northern lord and bared his fangs as he started speaking in the inu language “they are mine!” Naylor groaned as began to think that he might have pushed his nephew for the truth a little too hard. The taiyoukai was in a rage and had only one objective going through his mind and that was to have his property returned to him at all costs and he was ready to kill to do it. There was only one thing to do when an inu youkai was in a dangerous state of mind like this “I understand and I am willing to help you get them, but you have to calm down first” “I want them now!” he snarled and snapped his fangs. “Lord Sesshoumaru!” a female voice called “Lord Sesshoumaru” Naylor turned and saw a female servant “what is it, girl?” The girl slowly approached. She had black hair that went down half way down her back and golden eyes. Her expression was both nervous and upset “I believe I know why the woman ran” Sesshoumaru roared and the ground shook as he took a step towards the terrified servant girl “EXPLAIN NOW!” Naylor gave the girl a calm smile to try and help calm her “my dear it is important that we know why the girl ran” The servant gave a nod “I over heard Hime, the head concubine, talk to the woman. She told the woman that she was suppose to give birth to our lord’s son because she was best chosen to help him create a powerful heir, but that she hadn’t been able to produce a child nor had the other concubines been able to. Hime told the lady that the lady was a last resort and that our lord was simply waiting for his son to be weaned off her milk before Hime would begin to take over the role as mother to the son of our lord. She said no one would ever know that our lord’s son had a human mother because he was born a full blooded inu youkai,” she explained quickly and as accurately as she could. The rage Sesshoumaru felt magnified to where he felt if he didn’t kill something he would lose his mind. He had to find to them, he needed to find her and his son. He let lose a raging howl that had his men running from him in fear. Naylor looked at the taiyoukai “Sesshoumaru! Listen to me!” he yelled. He saw the taiyoukai snapped his head toward him and he quickly cleared his throat “I will help you find her, but there is a chance she may not want to return to you” Sesshoumaru snarled, “they are MINE!” “That may be, but you have ignored her and your son since you brought her to this place and that’s plenty of time for fear and doubt to set it” he clarified “Hime’s words only harden her fears” he then growled “I would tend to believe that Hime bitch myself if I didn’t know you that well, you’re lucky I do” “I want them BACK!” he roared Naylor gave a nod “as I said, I will help you, but you need to calm down first” Sesshoumaru snarled “NEVER! Never till they are back with me!” Seeing he wasn’t going to get anywhere with the enraged canine he sighed and nodded “I will see what I can do, she’s human and couldn’t have traveled far. All we have to do is have soldiers look in every direction for her” Growling, one thought came to Sesshoumaru’s mind “she went back to Inuyasha” and quickly took off towards Inuyasha’s forest. “Back to Inuyasha?” Naylor wondered and looked to Jaken for an explanation “why would she go back to Inuyasha instead of returning home?” Jaken fidgeted a moment before he answered “she and Inuyasha had never said it to one another, but anyone could plainly see, they loved each other. However his previous love Kikyo had been brought back as a walking clay corpse and the result was there relationship never progressed since he would always go to see the dead woman” “This sounds very confusing” the northern lord mumbled with a shake of his head. He then looked at a few of the soldiers “gather everyone I want a search party out there looking for the missing female and your lord’s son” The soldiers nodded, but then looked at each other. One asked the question they needed to know “milord, what does this female and his son look like?” Naylor shot a look to them “you have never seen them?" A guard that had remained at his post looked at the northern lord “the infant was covered when I saw them over eight months ago, but I can give them a description of the female” Nodding the northern lord took a deep breath “do that, make sure everyone knows, they must be found immediately” he then looked at the toad “Jaken you will get the concubine known as Hime, she is to wait in an empty room under guard watch till Sesshoumaru returns. I know he is going to want to speak with her about her actions” Jaken nodded “and what will you be doing milord?” “I’m going to make sure my nephew doesn’t kill anybody,” he stated before he turned into a ball of light and sped across the sky to catch up with the taiyoukai.
