Chapter 4
Sesshomaru approached the group and almost growled at the
sight of the lead mercenary and Shippo stitching her wounds.� He felt guilty knowing that those wounds were
partially his fault.� What really made
him mad was the fact that they were doing it while she was still conscious and
could feel the pain.� The mercenary
touching her didn�t help either.� As soon
as they were done Sesshomaru decided to have a talk with the leader.
Before he could call him over though Kagome put her hand out
and all of the shards came out of the Shichinintai and they were surrounded by
a blue light.� When the light disappeared
every member of the Shichinintai were alive once
more.� They were no longer walking
corpses but living beings.

They were all shocked, the girl had
pulled their jewel shards from them and yet they still lived.� They could feel their hearts beating and
couldn�t believe they were actually truly alive.� This girl that they had tried to kill had
saved them and given them life?� What was
she planning?� Bankotsu looked at her
questioningly, but she was slowly slipping to unconsciousness.� He would have to ask her later.
Sesshomaru approached Bankotsu and
signaled for him to follow him a few feet away, �we need to talk.�
�What do you need to talk to me
about?� Bankotsu asked eyeing Sesshomaru warily.
�The girl is my responsibility now
due to pack law.� I will be taking her to
my palace and I do not want any interference from you,� Sesshomaru replied
coldly.
�I don�t think so, I will protect
her. �She will be better off with us,�
Bankotsu said glaring at the Demon Lord.
�She is my responsibility.� Mine to protect.� Besides there is no way mere humans can
protect her better than a Demon lord.�
�Oh really, then why didn�t you make
a move to save her when Inuyasha grabbed her?�
He almost marked her and you just stood there.� What makes you think that you are the best
person to protect her?� Bankotsu yelled feeling his anger rise.
�You are a foolish human.� I do not need to explain myself to you, but
if you must know then I was waiting for an opening.� If I would have charged Inuyasha to save her
then Inuyasha could have hurt her badly or even killed her.� She is going with me and that is the end of
this discussion.�
�Well guess what, we are now responsible
for her due to a life debt.� She saved
our lives.� We will go wherever she
goes.� Bankotsu yelled never taking his eyes from Sesshomaru�s, �Besides I do
not think that it is safe to take her to the same place you are putting
Inuyasha.� He could escape and get to her
again.�
�A life debt?�
I have never known a human to honor a life debt.�
�Well it is not usual human practice,
mainly a demon code, but we in the Shichinintai have honor and pride in our own
way.� We always honor a debt.�
�Well she is my pack now so you don�t
have to worry.�
�I don�t care.� I owe her and I will be near to help her.�
�Do not test my patience or question
my ability mercenary.� She may have given
you life again, but I can easily take that away,� Sesshomaru replied holding
the mercenaries gaze.
�Fine, why don�t we compromise?� We will go to your palace as well so that we
may help her should she need it.�
Sesshomaru was losing his control
quickly.� Who did this man think he was
to try and order him the great Sesshomaru around?� Finally, he nodded.� He just wanted to get Kagome to his palace so
that she could be treated.� They would
work out rules and the rest of the deal later.
�Very well.�
I will take her to my palace and you can catch up.� We will discuss this later after she is taken
care of,� Sesshomaru said moving back toward Kagome.
Bankotsu wasn�t too happy that she
would be traveling with Sesshomaru, but he figured that he was lucky to get
Sesshomaru to agree to a compromise in the first place.� He was also mad at the fact that it would
take his men about two days to reach the palace.
�Nothing better happen to her until
we get there,� Bankotsu said to Sesshomaru low enough that only he could hear
it.
�Do not think to threaten me
mercenary,� he replied in a cold voice never turning back.

Sesshomaru walked up to Kagome and kneeled, �Kagome, I am
going to take you to my palace to recuperate.�
�That is not necessary.�
I will be fine, besides I already told you that I will not go with you
just because you feel obligated,� she said giving him a weak smile.
�Kagome, I would like for you to come with me, not because I
feel obligated, but because I respect you.�
I would be honored if you, the neko, and the kit would accompany
me.� I would love to have you all of you
with me,� he said letting his mask drop a little and taking her tiny hand in
his.
She looked up into his eyes and was shocked to see all of the
emotions swirling in those amber orbs.�
She could almost swear that she saw love in those eyes, but quickly
shook that thought away.� There was no
way Sesshomaru would ever even car about her, let alone love her.� She was human so there was no way that it was
love she saw.
�Very well, we would be honored to accompany you,� she said
weakly.
Her eyelids started to droop and Sesshomaru could feel her
remaining energy waning.� She needed to
see a healer quick, and she needed rest to regain her energy.� Sesshomaru felt his fear increase as he
sensed how low her life energy was.� He
reached down and took the weapon from her lap and put it in her bag as the kit
put the white box back.� The kit grabbed
the bag and hopped on the neko.�
Sesshomaru gently lifted the tiny miko bridal style in his arms and
started to form his cloud.
�Mercenary, keep this in mind, when you arrive at the palace
you will go by my rules.� You will not
cause any problems.� The miko may have
forgiven you, but I do not forgive so easily.�
If you hurt her or even try to do so I will make you suffer,� Sesshomaru
threw back over his shoulder.
With that the cloud spread under him and the neko and they
took to the sky, with the tiny miko tucked securely in his arms.

The Shichinintai stood completely
baffled, what did he mean when they got to his palace.� They all turned to Bankotsu who explained the
situation to them.� They were still
confused by Sesshomaru�s actions though.�
First Sesshomaru tried to kill the girl, then
he did a complete turnaround and protected her from Inuyasha.� Now he was completely protective of her, he
had almost attacked them when they decided to guard her while he fought
Inuyasha, and now he was taking her to his palace to care for her.
Bankotsu couldn�t blame him though,
he himself felt drawn to the girl.� Not
only was she beautiful, but she was brave, strong and graceful.� He quickly shook his head to clear his
thoughts.� He couldn�t fall for her no
matter how amazing she was, he needed to reign in his
emotions.
�We�ll make camp here tonight.� Tomorrow we will begin our trip to the
Western palace, we have a life debt to uphold.� Everyone go about
your usual duties,� he announced picking up two buckets and heading to the
nearby river for water.
XXXXXX
Sesshomaru flew at top speed to his
palace occasionally glimpsing at the tiny miko in his arms.� She looked really pale, but at least her
energy had not dropped anymore.� Her
breathing was shallow and her heart rate was slow, he just hoped that his
healers would be able help her before she weakened any more.
�Is my mama going to be ok?� the kit asked from beside him,
his voice trembling.
He studied the kit and the neko
beside him for a minute before responding, �I believe she will be fine.� She is a fighter and I do not think she would
give up so easily.� I think she just needs
rest.� I will however have my healers
look at her just in case.�
The kit studied him for a moment, a
serious expression on his face, then finally nodded,
turning to face forward.� As soon as they
reached the palace he touched down and headed inside with the kit and the neko
at his heels.� He stopped Jaken in the hallway
ordering him to send the healers to his chambers and have a room prepared next
to Rin�s for the neko and kit.� After
telling the kit to wait for Jaken he sped up to his chambers with the miko
snuggled into his chest.
He gently lay her down on his bed and
waited for the healers.� When they
finally arrived he explained the situation and stepped out the door to
wait.� After what seemed an eternity one
of the healers came out.
�My lord, I am sorry but there is
nothing we can do for her.� Her powers
won�t allow us to touch her.� Hopefully
rest is all she will need to recover.� I
should warn you though I have seen something similar to this before, her powers
may flare of their own accord.�
He nodded and walked into the room
just in time to see one of the healers get zapped just for touching her.� He dismissed them before any of them ended up
getting purified.� He closed the door
behind him and quietly approached the bed.�
Slowly he reached out to take her hand and was surprised when she didn�t
shock him.� Did she know who he was even
though she was unconscious?� Then he felt
a warm tingling in his hand that quickly traveled up his arm.
�Sesshomaru.�
His eyes widened as he heard the
voice in his head.� What was going
on?�
�I am Midoriko, there is no need to be worried.�
�What do you want?� Sesshomaru asked.
�I am going to warn you.� Kagome
will heal, but the only way to do so is to unlock the rest of her power.�
�Well, how does she do that?�
�She will have to sleep and relive the events that started it all.�
�You mean she will have a nightmare about her rape?�
�No.� She will relive the event, she will feel it all and see it all.� You must not wake her.� She has to relive the event so that her
powers will unlock to defend her.� They
can only unlock when she is in danger of dying or near death.� It is basically the same as Inuyasha�s demon blood taking over in defense.� Self preservation.�
�So she has to go through the rape all over again?� Is there not some other way?�
�I am afraid not.� I would never
have wished this on her, but that is how it must be.� One more thing, if you touch her after it
starts you run the risk of getting purified.�
After that Sesshomaru could feel her
presence disappear.� He sat on the edge
of the bed looking down at Kagome.�
Sesshomaru felt rage surge through him as he ran the conversation
through his head again.� She had to
relive her rape, hadn�t she suffered enough?�
He closed his eyes and came to a decision, he
would stay in here with her.� Even if he
could not wake her to help her, he could at least stay near and offer whatever
support that he could.
Just then his thoughts were
interrupted by a light knock on his door.�
He reigned in his anger and got up to get the door so as not to wake
Kagome.� He opened the door to find Jaken
standing there.
�My lord, the kit and neko have been
taken care of.� The guards also wanted me
to inform you that Inuyasha was taken care of per your instructions.�
�Good.� Jaken you are in charge of the young ones
tonight.� Let the kit know that his
mother needs her rest and he cannot under any circumstances come up to see
her.�
�What?� You mean I have to watch the miko�s brat?� Jaken screeched.
Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes and was
about to respond when an orb of blue light shot past him and hit Jaken giving
him the shock of his life.� Sesshomaru
turned, but the miko had not budged.� He smirked, she must have subconsciously done it.� Even in her subconscious state she was
protecting her pup.� He turned back to
Jaken who started to sputter out apologies before leaving.
�Jaken,� Sesshomaru said stopping him
in his tracks.
�You would do well to make sure
nothing happens to the kit and you will treat him with the same respect you
show Rin.� If I
hear that you have mistreated the kit you will regret it, you will have the
miko to deal with.� If she managed to
shock you like that in her sleep you probably do not want to see what she will
do when she wakes.�
�Y.. Yes my
lord,� Jaken said his voice trembling in fear as he started to back away.
Sesshomaru closed the door and walked
back over to the bed, �You are just full of surprises Kagome,� he said sitting
in a chair next to the bed.
This was going to be a long night.

Kouga raced through the forest trying to
follow the scent of Inuyasha.� He could
tell by the slight change that the kit had been telling the truth.� He had run into the kit earlier that day and
found out what had happened.�
Unfortunately the neko had come for the kit and he couldn�t follow them
because they went to the air.� He had to
get to Inuyasha.� He had heard that
Inuyasha was lost to his demon blood forever and he had to try to save him.
Kouga had never admitted to anyone, but
the whole reason that he kept going to see Kagome was really so he could see
Inuyasha.� Inuyasha
being a hanyou was naturally a uke.
�Sure if Inuyasha mated a human he would
be the dominant one, but in demon society he was not.� Kouga had never
wanted a mate before, all of the females were too
needy and had no spirit.� Inuyasha was
beautiful and he was also full of spirit.�
Demons had no problem with same sex matings.
He slowed down when he heard talking ahead.� He figured that it was just some humans
camping and was going to just pass by, but he stopped when he heard Kagome�s
name mentioned.� He froze in his tracks
and listened to the group.
�So Big Brother why do you insist we go to the Western
Palace?�
�I have already told you, we owe Kagome a life debt and we
are going to the Western Palace to protect her.�
Besides with Sesshomaru�s and her help we have a better chance of
defeating Naraku.�
�Will our debt be paid if we protect her for now and help in
the battle with Naraku?�
�Yes, I believe so.� We
also have to make sure Inuyasha doesn�t get to her again.�
Kouga had heard enough.� These people were apparently friends, but he
was more interested on whether they knew where Inuyasha was.� He walked calmly to the clearing and was
shocked to see that it was almost completely destroyed.� What the hell had happened here?� He turned to the group and growled when he
realized that it was the Shichinintai.
�Well, look who it is,� Bankotsu said standing up.
�What the hell is going on?� Kouga
asked.
�It�s a long story.� We
no longer work for Naraku, we are free.� So truce?� Bankotsu
said holding his hand out.
Kouga looked suspiciously at the hand for
a minute before taking it, �What happened?�
Kouga sat down keeping an eye on all the them while Bankotsu explained the events leading up to
their truce.
�So Inuyasha is at Sesshomaru�s palace?� he asked quickly
getting to his feet.
�Yes, but he is not the same person.�
�I don�t care I have to find a way to bring him back before
Sesshomaru kills him.�
�Well for now Sesshomaru is holding him at the palace trying
to figure something out.�
�I better go before he changes his mind.�
�Kouga,� Bankotsu
called before he could take off.
�What?� Kouga asked annoyed at
being stalled.
�I�m not sure, but I think Kagome may have an idea.� Before she started drifting out of
consciousness she was looking at him and it seemed like she was thinking of
something.�
�Thanks,� Kouga said running off,
hopefully Kagome had come up with something.
Kouga didn�t know what he would do if he
couldn�t save Inuyasha from his beast.�
He ran as fast as he could but he knew that even at this rate he would
not make it till morning.
