Many years had passed for all of Japan. Rumors and tales had reached all across the land, even to Aiyuki's ears in the east. She had heard about the Shikon no Tama, about Naraku, and how a certain half-breed named Inuyasha was in search of the shards to the jewel. Aiyuki had her own encounter herself with the shard, though she did not possess them for her own sake, she possessed them after having collected five in hopes of collecting more as trade for Ryaku and Kai. The two demons had been captured by Naraku and forced to become his pawns in his little game. The she-wolf has traversed the lands, now completely far from her eastern borders and delving in to western regions, in to dog demon territory. She kept her cloak tight around her, her hood hiding her face as she traveled through one particular forest, Inuyasha's forest.
So they named a forest after you little one? She grinned as she stared up at the great tree that Inuyasha was once pinned to. She could feel the residual energies left in that particular area. The feelings of anger, betrayal, and resentment all wrapped around this one area. Sniffing the air lightly she turned her ice blue eyes towards the direction of what she could discern as a human village. And you've found refuge amongst humans? Turning herself towards the village she slowly made her way through the dense forest, passing by the bone eaters well and continuing on. She could smell his scent all throughout the village, it was true then that he had made this his home at least. Aiyuki looked at the rice fields with a gentle smile as she continued walking the trail to the village. She hadn't got far before a villager stopped her.
“What business do you have here stranger?”
“I have come to see Inuyasha.” She kept her head low, not daring to frighten any of the humans by her appearance. She didn't want to start trouble, after all that wasn't her intentions.
“And what is it you want with me?” A voice came from behind her, a voice she didn't quite recognize but she knew the scent anywhere. She turned around keeping her face hidden a little longer. He had grown from the little boy she could still remember to the young man she saw before her now. Though his company surprised her just a bit. A little kitsune pup, a demon slayer, a Buddhist monk, and a girl she could feel miko powers from but her clothes were strange to her. Aiyuki couldn't help but chuckle softly seeing one of Inuyasha's ears twitch lightly in impatience. “What's so damn funny?”
“You never liked being kept waiting.” She carefully reached up and pulled the hood down from her head. Her arctic silver hair cascaded down her back, her ice blue cat-like eyes looked up to the hanyou and held a gentle smile in them.
“A demon!” The villager who had stopped the woman quickly turned off running. Aiyuki had watched the villager run off before she sighed gently.
“I had hoped not to cause a scene, but looks as if it couldn't be helped.” She looked back to the group again.
“.....aneki?” Inuyasha spoke that single word that rang in her ears, her eyes teared up.
“Sister? Inuyasha do you know this demon?” The slayer looked confused as she directed her attention to the hanyou and then to the demon before them.
“So you do remember me.” The tears fell and she wiped them away only to look up to find Inuyasha hugging her tightly.
“I thought you had died when you didn't come to find me.” He spoke to her gently as he continued to hold her.
“Oh how I wanted to go find you, but I couldn't.” She pulled back and looked at him with a gentle smile. “I see you've grown up handsomely and strong...” She looked over to the group whom still seemed quite confused. “... and you've got friends as well.”
“Yeah.” Inuyasha let her go and took her towards everyone. “This is Aiyuki. She helped raise me when I was younger, watching over both my mother and myself.” Aiyuki gently bowed her head to them politely. “Aiyuki, this is Shippou, Kagome, Miroku, and Sango.”
“So the Lady of the East helped raise you?” Sango asked and Inuyasha blinked confused.
“Lady of the East?” He looked over to Aiyuki confused. She giggled softly before she nodded.
“Sango is right. I am the ruler of the eastern regions, much like your half-brother rules the west.” She looked to Sango. “You know much about us don't you demon slayer?”
“It's my job to.” Sango smiled and bowed gently. “It's an honor to meet you, Lady Aiyuki.”
“Please, the honor is mine to meet friends of Inuyasha's.” She bowed back to her before she looked over to Kagome. She stared for a moment before she sniffed the air gently. “He's not far off.”
“Hmm?” Inuyasha looked to Aiyuki and raised a brow. “Who's not far?” He sniffed the air and blinked. “You're talking about Sesshoumaru.”
“Yes. I'm not exactly welcome in his lands.” She smiled sadly and Kagome caught the look the she-wolf was giving.
“Then you will not be staying, Lady Aiyuki?” The monk Miroku spoke up and Aiyuki looked to him shaking her head.
“Unfortunately I can't stay in one spot for too long now that I'm in his region.” She looked to Inuyasha again before she reached in a small bag tied by her swords. “Here. I want you to have these.” She pulled out her shards of the Shikon no Tama and gently placed them in his hands.
“I thought I sense shards on you.” Kagome spoke up and looked to the demon. “But why are you giving them to us?”
“I had hoped to use them to get Ryaku and Kai back, but I highly doubt I'd be able to persuade Naraku in to releasing them.” She closed her eyes. “No, I need to find aide in the wolf tribes that are here and to the North.”
“Why would you need their help?” Inuyasha looked to the wolf but she looked away and he could sense something was wrong. “Aiyuki what happened?” She closed her eyes before she clenched her fists tightly.
“Why don't we go to Kaede's hut? There we can talk some more, and you don't have to worry about Sesshoumaru. If he comes here we'll distract him.” Kagome smiled to Aiyuki who agreed silently. They all made way back to the priestess's home where the older woman got a fire going and supper cooking for them.
“So ye came here to give Inuyasha the shards you possessed?” Kaede was slightly confused with this as the others had been. “It is odd a demon would willingly hand over their jewel shards.”
“I have no use for them, not in the way I had hoped it would seem.” Aiyuki looked in to the fire and sighed softly. She then looked up to Inuyasha before speaking to him gently. “Inuyasha, that night that we were parted I was found by two members of my court. They had me return back to my lands, to claim my rightful place as heir to the Eastern regions and leader of the Arctic Wolf tribe.” She pulled her knees up close to her chest as she looked back to the fires.
“Something tells me things went wrong.” Inuyasha muttered to her and she nodded slowly.
“Years went by and when Naraku came in to being he attacked my kingdom. Ryaku and Kai had found shards of the jewel when they were hunting. They returned only to have that vile monster on their heels. He attacked and we had no way of defeating him.” She glared angrily in to the flames. “I managed to get my tribe out of there, they went to seek refuge in the tribe to the South where they await my orders for now but Kai and Ryaku were persuaded to join Naraku when he embedded the jewels with in their backs.” She let out a low deep growl.
“So you were hoping to gather more jewels to give to them so they would join back with you?” Shippou looked to the woman catching on to what she was saying.
“Yes, that was my plan but the more I gathered of the fragments the more I felt my efforts would be in vain. There is no way of saving them now, and I don't wish to give the power of the shards so easily to Naraku. When I got word that you were alive still and you were searching for the shards, I came to find you even if it meant I'd be wondering in to your brother's territory.”
“So you're going to see Kouga and Ayame?”
“That I am, but how did you know their names?” Aiyuki blinked looking somewhat confused.
“I've ran in to that flea bitten mutt Kouga several times, and Ayame just happened to be looking for him once too.” Inuyasha crossed his arms giving a slight pout.
“Flea bitten?” Aiyuki blinked before she giggled softly. “So I see, you get along with him just fine then.” She winked before she looked to Kaede who was handing her a bowl full of food. She nodded and bowed her head softly as she took it carefully. “I thank you for this.”
“I wouldn't say they get along, considering they both almost always fight when they see each other. Mostly it's because Kouga wants Kagome as his bride.” Shippou told the lady before he started eating.
“Is that so?” She looked to Inuyasha who blushed and looked away.
“It's not like that!”
“As if! Kouga's always trying to take me away.” Kagome shook her head giving Inuyasha a glare.
“I don't see why!” Inuyasha glared to her, his comment seemed to anger her lightly.
“Inuyasha....” She looked to him and he tensed. “Sit!” She spoke out and Aiyuki watched as Inuyasha's rosary necklace lit up with a strange power dragging him quickly to the ground.
“Oh my...” Aiyuki blinked taking a bite of her food.
“Lady Aiyuki, what about you?” Kagome looked to her getting her attention completely.
“Me? What do you mean Kagome?”
“You're in love, aren't you?” She asked and watched the wolf's eyes widen slightly. “So you are in love.”
“It's not.... that easy Kagome.” Aiyuki looked away blushing only slightly. “I was in love before, yes. The man I loved turned from someone who returned my feelings in to someone who loathed and despised me in just one night.” She put her bowl down and she stood. “I thank you for the meal and allowing me to stay this long.” She bowed her head before she turned to the door walking out.
“Wait a minute!” Inuyasha quickly got up and followed after her leaving the group there in the hut to their meals.
“Was it something... I said?” Kagome blinked hoping she hadn't offended Aiyuki. Inuyasha quickly caught up with the wolf demon standing in front of her.
“Inuyasha?”
“Don't leave.” He looked at her but blinked seeing the tears clinging to her eyes. “Aneki? What's wrong?”
“Hmm? Oh it's nothing.” She wiped at her eyes but blinked seeing Inuyasha staring at her. She let out a soft sigh before she looked towards the forest. “It's Sesshoumaru. He's the one who I was in love with.... no, who I am in love with.”
“Sesshoumaru? Why the hell would you be in love with that bastard?!” Inuyasha just couldn't believe what he was hearing.
“It's complicated little one.” She smiled and walked up to him. “I'm sorry I can't say long Inuyasha. We'll meet again, I promise.” Aiyuki gently wrapped her arms around the hanyou, hugging him close to her. Only after she felt him return her hug did she move back from him.
“Take care, aneki.” Inuyasha looked to her before a scent came in on the wind. “You'd better get going if you want to avoid Sesshoumaru, he's heading this way.”
“Yeah, I can smell him.” She quickly jumped away and just before she landed her formed altered into a large icy white wolf. She let out a long mournful howl before she turned and took off running in to the forest. Take care of yourself, Inuyasha.
