"Welcome prospects to the Koshitsu Palace"Kimiko announced cheerfully. With a click of a large bamboo fan she gracefully paced the palace crystal floors. Eyeing the nervous and chattering women before her.
"I suppose you are wondering why Ive chosen for now to refer to you as prospects?Well thats simple--you are all possibilities. Nothing more or less.
There is a likelihood that a few of you would be chosen for the harem. But only one will be chosen for to the imperial chambers-- as an imperial concubine.Although you all may be lovely to look upon,your fate is entirely up to the Kamis.I however am here only to test that faith."
Kimiko added slyly as she observed the panicked disposition and nervous faces from the whispering crowd of women.
"I will test your culinary skills,your knowledge on the Imperial kingdom ,precepts and various rituals. For this segment I will test your culinary skills. Each prospect will given a jade kettle and cup along with some Matcha powder and honey. The ingredients for Miso soup is also provided at your station.
Although the Imperial family are mainly youkai and we do not consume human food. We are not exempted from tea or soup. In fact the emperor appreiciates Miso soup from time to time when offered to him during cold periods. He indulges--crown Prince likewise drinks his matcha tea almost daily.
So you see it is imperative that you know the basics, you have half the hour to proceed". Kimiko stated before taking her seat.
Half the hour. Kagome thought doubtfully as she shuffled quickly to her station. Does it really take that long to make miso soup?
She remembered helping her father make countless bowls of soup for the court guards and some officials that would pass by their make shift shop in Edo. It spared her only a quarter of the hour at most per bowl sometimes less depending on the ingredient or demands from their customers.
"Matcha powder" she whispered confused. Kagome was not aware of the different types of teas. Their makeshift yard only produced the basics leaves, they were lucky to even use honey when its supplies was affordable.
I never seen this before it must be some sort of luxury here in the palace we only had mint leafs in Edo village --occationally black tea. Pondering lightly on the task at hand her thoughts were then interupted by the silkness of a feminine voice.
"Do you need some help ningen"? A seductive melody rang causing Kagome to look around flusterred.
Shaking her head slightly the onna observed the elegant looking woman before her.
"Oh no, Im just new to some of these ingredients is all." She gazed in awe at the woman that produced the melody. No youkai definetly of a high caliber.
"Wow she's attractive."she muttered absentmindly as her blue orbs inspected the emerald ones of the grinning female
Unknowingly to her the demoness had heard her compliment. "Thank you she responded proudly, "Im Ayame Siki from an aristocrat wolf family. My brother serves here as the general for the imperial household as well"
"General" Kagome stated shyly. "Thats pretty impressive!" Kagome knew her pedigree was far off it was nothing to be compared to the women she witnessed around her.It stirred the question as to how she ended up here in the first place within her all of a sudden.
"Hai of course it is", Ayame said proudly."His name is Kouga -kun--hes my half brother.If it wasnt for his request I would not have been in the notice." Taking in the human before her she murmmered something she had not intended." I wonder how you end up here"
Emerald eyes widening slightly in defense she rose a clawed hand about her slightly. "Not that you dont have a right to be here.Your fairly attractive for a human and all.."
Perhaps its those eyes dont ningens usually have plain features? Brown eyes something like that? She mused analyzing the human silently
"You certainly stand out also." she said finishing with a courteous smile inspecting the sapphireness of the humans iris. The wolf youkai fascination was interrupted by the announcement of the Queen Kimiko.
"A quarter of the hour left ". Kimiko chanted as she rose from her large silver pillow.
"Though I see some chatter going on here does this mean were all done?" she added as she made her way towards the chattering twos stations.
"Oh no" Kagome squealed meekly. Bowing quickly to the female wolf youkai before her she hastly grabbed the hot water and began mixing the ingredients
"We have to hurry. Shes coming our way".
"Yes I see--well good luck ningen." Ayame said softly ."May the Gods grant you your fate".
She certainly seems like the nice one out of the bunch Kagome thought absentmindly as she shuffled her way across her station mixing the ingredients and tasting the broth.
"Times up"! Kimiko stated loudly eyeing the onna before her with a curious gleam .
" Let see what we have here!"

"Feh"-- Inuyasha muttered as he made his way towards his brothers study room. "Mothers at it again.I mean how many bloody concubines does father need? He already has 30 he barely attends to and now shes choosing more prospects for the harem.
Ugh so this is what boredom truly looks like then he thought idly .Indeed Joo Kimkio was not Inuyasha real mother but as the empress and mother of the nation she had to be addressed as such--iregardless of his feelings.
She had been the one whom helped raised him after his mothers swift departure therefore she was all he knew.
Okaa-san, you died before I even got a chance to acknowledge you as mother.
The hanyou thought sadly as he made his way way into the grand study hall .He had a matter to discuss with his brother--a request rather. One that only Sesshomaru could make on his behalf to the Emperor.
"2nd Prince arrives " Bankutso the head atttendant announced as Inuyasha made his way towards the Crown Prince large oakwood table.
"2nd Prince greets the Crown Prince" Inuyasha muttered with a scowled face . "May peace and prosperity reign upon you."
It was a formal greeting Inuyasha had to address Sesshomaru with seeing as he was the Crown Prince and successor to the throne.
"Hn" Sesshomaru remarked with a small smirk. Though the hanyou had attempted in his compliant facade the inu knew better. Rebellious was the only thing that could described the imbecile.
The Dai youkai placed a scroll he was previously occupied with upon a large oak table.
Addressing his brother nonchantly he ran a clawed hand throughout his silver tresses.
"Almost beleivable hanyou--almost".
"Well yea thats the best I can do. Im not gonna happily bow to you for anything Sesshomaru". Inuyasha barked in an irritated tone. Yes his brother was the eldest that very notion tore at the hanyou heart for various reason.
He had first pickings on everything he also had no liberties-- hence the reason he seeked an audience with him.
"Be not a fool Inuyasha. This one doesnt have time to waste. State your petition-it is obvious you are not here for small talk." he rebuttled curtly . Flicking a strand of silver hair behind him he reached towards a jaden tea cup. It held the only substance he can tolerate--matcha tea with a bit of mint leaves.
"There must be some form of motive halfbreed it is your nature". Sipping his tea breifly he awaited the confirmation of his notion--yes he was always right in most circumstances.
"Well..yeah.I mean fine! I did come to ask you if you can petition to father on my behalf concerning something." the hanyou stopped in mid sentence . Knowing his half brother he already knew the intent of his question.
"Concerning the human wench"? Sesshomaru said curiously . Raising a silver brow he frowned slightly. It was the only time he would grace the hanyou with any emotion openly. The woman was truly disgusting and if the half breed was able to detect un loyal--but he doubted he could.
"Shes not a wench shes my royal my only concubine--and yes I dont want her to remain a concubine.I love her and well we want to get married soon." Inuysha whined slightly .
He had forget his stance, he was not emotionless unlike his brother sp any open offense was felt within his heart. It reflected on his disposition sometimes before he could reign in it.
"Marriage"? Sesshomaru stated with humour in his tone.
"Little brother have you forgotten your place here in the palace? Father is still in his Prime and I have yet to taken an Imperial concubine save a mate myself --and as his sucessor do you honestly think that father will bestow marriage to you before me--surely you jest".
Snorting at the audacity of his half brothers notion he  motioned towards the finance   scroll he had been occuppied with--the conversation was going nowhere
"Well its not like your interested in anyone but yourself Sesshomaru,". Inuyasha spat angrily ."This isnt about the throne and you know it.Im not interested in overthrowing you for the throne I just want to be with Kikyo!"
"Well the court doesnt see it that way unfortunately." Sesshomaru responded dryly
"Marriage is an alliance formed for political,economical and social gain there is no room for affairs of the heart.You and father are very much alike, Women being your weakness have clouded you from the real intent of life. Power and ultimately-- Dominion.
"Father mated mother because of her pedigree not because he was in love Inuyasha. Granted feelings were developed at some point in the mating however it was not the priority.Who we mate and form an alliance with is not within our control,not even I get to choose half breed. So what makes you think I Sesshomaru would beseech to Father on your behalf" he snarled shattering the jade tea cup within his grasp.
The half breed has been out of turn on many days. But his behaivour today was un expectantly intolerable. Apart of him was angry because the half breed dared to challenge him in terms of mating first.
As a dominant male his primal side would never let the whlep assume role as Alpha. The other side of him was angry at the fact that he indeed did not have a choice in the matter-- where a mate was concerned. Truly it was a disadvantage on his part. Not something he would openly admit to
"Feh guess your right its not within any of our controls".Inuyasha said smugly.
Knowing that he had nothing else to lose at this point he decided to press his discovery further. I suppouse  thats why mothers searching for your imperial concubine as we speak.
I wasnt gonna say anything but since the cats out of the bag I figured--"
"What?" Sesshomaru snapped raising his head suddenly. Sensing no deceit from his brothers words he rose angrily,pushing past the hanyou with haste he flew towards the opening screen door. He knew hs mother had arrangements today concerning the inner court but he had no idea that these peperation concerned him or his future.
Of course he should not have given her the benefit of a doubt. He was aware of her many schemes. What good can a woman with her intentions every bring about.
Mother you truly know how to take liberties. Sesshomaru thought irritably and with inhuman speed he raced out of the imperial libary towards the grand hall.

"Delightful" Kimiko said. Smiling at the young onna she gracefully sipped some miso soup from the crystal bowl. Wiping her mouth with an embroided moon hand kerchief she inspected the remnants that flooded in the broth.
" You made this so flavourful only using these few ingredients " she asked suprised and yet delighted all at once.
"Hai Joo Kimiko". Kagome said shyly. Her cooking skills today had been nothing short of a miracle. She had managed to conjure up the ingredients into something drinkable. She hoped the queen didnt ask for a break down in detail because even she could not remember her previous actions
"Hmm, come forward let me take a look at you".Kimiko said curiously.
"I was aware we had humans enter the pickings but im suprised one was even chosen."
Aside from our Royal Concubine Kikyo we have no other ningen females in our harem. Interesting
What is your name little one ?" Kimiko said softly as she observed the human before her.
Recollecting the breif coaching she had endured in terms of introduction Kagome raised her head before gracefully walking towards the Empress. With a low bow she introduced herself along with the harems mantra;
"Kagome Higurashi pays her repect to Joo Kimiko,
Ten no Inu Taisho in his absence and his Highnesses,
May all fortune and good health come to you
An ignorant woman is a virtuous one"
"Hai ,Hai good". Kimiko respondly contently, but noticing the stiffness in her previous words she was curious if the onna meant what she tauntted further.
She was one for drama even if she had to stir the pot. "An ignorant woman is a virtuous one.Do you truly beleive this precept ningen"? Awaiting her response she clicked a bamboo like fan open and fanned herself exasperately.
Fidgetting slightly Kagome whispered "Hai Joo. I do" .No she did not agree with anything that hindered a womans ability but what can she say she was in front of the empress for goodness sake.
Sensing some deceit Kimiko coaxed gently. She was itching for a bit of drama the prospects had all seemed too--boring.
"Dont lie ningen,state whats really on your mind. You wont be judged--Im curious to hear your anology."
"Well --well you see, Kagome started nervously ."Ignorance is a bad thing because it gives one no motivation to improve their life.How can not knowing be virtuous .Knowledge is power.If I was ignorant of the sado tea ceremony ritual how will I be able to serve Joo kimiko this matcha tea? If I didnt know the proper ingredients or how to mix the seaweed with the broth,or dissolve the miso paste in the water along side the tofu and fish head. How will it become Miso soup?"
"You see your highness" Kagome finished nervously. "Ignorance may be bliss but its also detrimental to one":
No naka no kawazu taikai wo shirazu Kagomes mind chanted. "A frog in a well does not know the great sea. Are you familiar with this idiom Joo" Kagome added she had not meant to impose the question on the empress. Though she was curious to hear her own anology.
Remarkable she even trys to challenge me. Kimiko thought inwardly .
"Little one it means that we should not judge things by our own narrow experiences,unbeknownst of the wide world outside." the empress replied wisely. "I was told that common humans most are illiterate though you have changed my perception."
"A kite breeding a hawk." Kimiko chanted. Refreshing for a change "Take your seat young one, I will give you further instructions"
The emperor should be pleased.

Hi all im a bit discouraged with my fluffy sama character I havent included much of him but I will in the other chapter.. sesshomaru sama is a man of little words so I have to do my best to keep him in character... I usually edit my chapters and add pieces if I find it distasteful so dont forget to re read it I may have included an additional line or editied it
