Sesshoumaru got Inuyasha completely calmed down after a while and talked to him about his lesson with Jaken which cheered Inuyasha up immensely. Inuyasha told Sesshoumaru how he had to practically read the whole book to Jaken since the kappa did not know Inu so it was a learning process for them both. Sesshoumaru was pleased with this since he was uncertain that Inuyasha would be able to decipher his Great Grandfather’s work, but it was good that he could. Now they just needed to see if Pearl could do the same.

Before departing to go take care of the problem with the Matron, Sesshoumaru kissed both of his mates and promised to make up for the bad day with them both later. He still had a few things to do and really did hate leaving his mates to go finish with the messengers who had just come back from the East to bring him news of their official arrival date.

Inuyasha sat with Pearl up in his tree wanting the day to be done with already so he could go to his lessons with Jaken tomorrow. That book had been fascinating and Inuyasha was just on the chapter about his Great Grandfather’s battle with the snake demons before he had to go deal with two big mean bitches. Hina and the stupid Matron. Gods he hoped they suffered and he hoped he never saw the Matron again.

Pearl sat quietly in Inuyasha’s lap and wondered what was going to happen to that wicked woman. “Tell me, why do you always wear these?”

Pearl asked fingering the beads on Inuyasha’s neck.

“Those are from my first wife. They are subjugation beads.”

Inuyasha said swallowing hard as he tried to forget the bad memories of being flung to the ground by these beads. He had wished Kagome would have taken them off when she died, but did not. Now it was like a constant reminder that he had belonged to Kagome at one point in his life as her beck and call dog.

“Do you want me to take them off? They came off of me and went onto you when our bodies split. I don’t believe anyone should be subjugated.”

Pearl said as Inuyasha helped her turn around.

“It is said only the miko who put these on can take them off Pearl so I don’t know if you can.”

Inuyasha said.

“Maybe I can call to the spirits. They haven’t talked to us in a long time, but it can’t hurt to try.”

Pearl said as she fingered the beads hoping she could set Inuyasha free.

Closing her eyes Pearl called to the spirits trying to find Kagome in her mind.

“Kagome is gone little one. Only I am here now.”

A gentle low voiced male spoke.

“Lord Touga? Is that you? Can you help me? I need to get these beads off of my mate.”

Pearl said.

“Yes it is I little one. The power is in both of you, however I would wait until Sesshoumaru is with you both before you try.”

Touga said.

“Why wait if I can take them off now?”

Pearl asked.

“Trust me daughter, you will see when the time comes.”

Touga said and then he went back to his place between worlds.

“Inuyasha, I spoke with your Father. He said we have to wait for Sesshoumaru before we can take them off, but it is good news that we maybe can remove this thing from you. I just don’t understand how someone who loves you could treat you like a pet. This is a collar of slavery and I despise it.”

Pearl said in sadness as she pulled Inuyasha into her arms shocking the hell out of him.

“Honey, I’m fine. It isn’t like she can use them against me anymore.”

Inuyasha said with a chuckle.

“Well what if some other person learned the spell on them. Then you would be their slave. No, these have to be removed.”

Pearl said with a frown.

“Well as far as I know there are no mikos of high enough power to subdue me. Even if there were I am not dumb enough to fall into their trap again. Father taught me some spells I can use against even the most powerful miko so that I will not ever have to deal with someone subjugating me again.”

Inuyasha said with a smile and then fingered the beads gently.

“It will be odd to have them off.”

Inuyasha said with a frown.

“But it will be good. We will make something nice to replace them with. If you wish to have a reminder of Kagome maybe we can have a set of beads that are similar, but do not have the evil powers over them.”

Pearl suggested.

“I would like a reminder of her, but this isn’t really a good reminder. Still, for a while these beads were the one thing that kept us together. They stopped me a few times from harming people and there were times that I did deserve to be sat as it were.”

Inuyasha said flipping the beads in his fingers.

“Sat? She used a dog term for the beads? That is the worst thing I ever heard!”

Pearl fumed. If Kagome was around she would give her a piece of her mind.

“Ya, she would say ‘sit’ and I would be flung to the ground by these beads. Sometimes she would add ‘boy’ to the ‘sit’ as though I was a dog. She tried to make me fetch once too. Come to think of it she always treated me like I was a dog more than a man.”

Inuyasha thought angrily.

“You have every right to feel anger towards her Inuyasha. You are no one’s pet ever. You are one of the most wonderful people I know and I love you.”

Pearl said rubbing her nose against Inuyasha’s affectionately.

“Thanks for treating me like a person Pearl.”

Inuyasha said with a smile.

“Well, we are dogs in some ways, but I wouldn’t treat you like one unless you wanted me to. However I would love to see your cute ass wiggle like a dog for me. I absolutely love your ass Inuyasha if you want to know what one of my favorite parts of your body is.”

Sure the two Inu hanyous had differences, but for the most part their lives were very similar. Inuyasha knew even if Sesshoumaru abandoned them in the future he would always have Pearl at his side.

“If you had to choose one of us who would you choose to be with Pearl?”

Inuyasha asked since he did wonder. What if he left them? Would Pearl go with Sesshoumaru or would she stay with him.

“Don’t ask me that Inuyasha. It isn’t fair and you know it.”

Pearl said angrily pushing back from Inuyasha who pulled her forward again.

“Pearl it is hypothetical and it is just you and me right now. Tell me the truth. Who would you stay with?”

Inuyasha asked again.

“If I can’t have both of you, then I would have neither of you. I would be on my own and I would not have another man in my life. My heart belongs to you both and if you split then it would break it. I couldn’t live with only half my heart so I would live with none at all. I would become cold, emotionless, and something you both would come to see as a heartless bitch. I would rather die than have us split apart. In fact you make me a promise. If we do all separate I want you to end my life. I don’t want to live if I cannot have you both.”

Pearl said shocking Inuyasha.

“No Pearl! That isn’t an option! I will not take your life even if you do become cold! I love you and damnit I would insure that you knew that love!’
“I just know demons Pearl and Sesshoumaru may decide he is bored with us someday! If that happens I want you to come with me! I want us to have a life together!”

Inuyasha cried. Damnit he didn’t want this to happen to them, but if his brother decided to become the asshole again he would take them away. Pearl would live with him and Inuyasha would take care of her no matter what.

Pearl had tears in her eyes.

“Inuyasha I can’t live with only half a heart so pray that this never happens. Pray to whatever you believe in that this will never occur since I would rather be dead then not have the love of both of the men I worship. You are both my religion, my life, and my only reason for living. Never again ask me what you did today. I cannot even bear the thought of it.”

Pearl said and Inuyasha held her hoping he would be wrong about his brother. Inuyasha wanted to believe the three of them would be together forever, but demons were fickle creatures. One moment they said one thing and the next they did something else. Sesshoumaru had been one to say one thing then do another his whole life. Inuyasha didn’t know a time when his brother had not been a walking hypocrisy, but that was a demon. Demons were all the same.

Hanyou hearts were stronger and lasted longer. When Inuyasha said he would do something he did it. There were no questions of what he might do. Inuyasha was bluntly honest and believed lies to be something that made someone weak in his eyes. No matter what Inuyasha swore at this moment he would protect Pearl even from his brother if necessary. Somehow, with half a heart Pearl would still be ok.

“I promise I will never ask you that question again Pearl. However if he leaves us I will swear on my honor to be there for you every waking hour for the rest of your life. I love you so much and I don’t want you hurt. I swear if my brother hurts you I will hunt him down to the ends of the earth and destroy him.”

Inuyasha said in all honesty.

Pearl just nodded and prayed Inuyasha was wrong since if Sesshoumaru did end up betraying them she would end her life along with Sesshoumaru’s.

Instead of making love, the two hanyous just held each other for the hours waiting for Sesshoumaru to come and get them when the time was right. For now it was peaceful and good for them both. However the next few days would test their strength again.
