Naraku stood vigilant in front of Annabelle's room door. Although his scarlet globes reflected that closed entrance, his mind was contemplating nothing but confused thoughts, bitter memoirs. He secretly ached, remembering the lass' lips telling him Kagewaki was a part of her. Then, the hanyo just realized that he didn't forget Kikyo himself. The priestess apparition made his core revolve, feeding his anxiety. The overwhelming passion that once has gnawed himself surely wasn't the same anymore. Naraku didn't long to take his old love in his arms and make her his, nevertheless his heart still would vacillate in her presence. Would this be Annabelle's sensation when she thought about Kagewaki? He inevitably wondered.
As it wasn't enough having to deal with that lingering ghost, now he needed to find a way to impede the western woman to get out of his sight.
"Did you send for me?" Kagura showed herself visibly bored.
"I want you to look after her" the internal anguish didn't sounded in his deep voice. Naraku looked more calm than never.
His subordinate snored and that was all, she wouldn't dare to challenge him again, not after being so punished. Despites feeling annoyed, Kagura sat with her legs and arms crossed, resting her back against the wall in front of the entrance. Her long black eyelids sealed and her crimson lips curled impatiently.
"Do not lose sight of her. Understood?" her creator rectified.
"Yes, yes, I got it".

Annabelle awoke from a dreamless slumber again. Without any rush, she stretched her arms and legs, then she sat in the edge of the futon and breathed deeply. Deep inside, she has been tempted by a wish of being there, laying down, just watching the hour pass by. Her limbs seemed to weigh tons, that Shikon shard could spare her of feeling pain, yet the tiredness, oh, it was huge. It must be the air of this place. Anna guessed. Yet, it didn't matter, for she would not let herself pine, although life has not been so great lately. So, she gathered her internal and external strength and raised her body in an impulse.
The miko's invitation echoed untiringly and tempting into her head. It wasn't just about curiosity, but there was a worry about her twin also, making Anna think about how she could leave the castle, even knowing the risks. Kikyo could be preparing a trap for sure, still she decided to take her chances. So, the lass went to the chest, pulled the first dress she found and started to wear all the layers quickly. When she was just adjusting the blue skirt, the door slid violently and Kagura got inside, as indelicate as she was used to be.
"If you think you're going anywhere, you're pretty much mistaken" She said, holding the open fan near to her face.
"He has sent you, didn't he?" Belle sighed.
A muffled complaint, rolling eyes, and a face turning aside has been the answer.
"If Naraku is so mean to you, why do you remain his ally?" The human came near carefully.
"So you don't know" The yokai released a bitter chuckle. "I've born from his body. My heart is literally in his hands. Naraku can end my life whenever he wants".
"That's absurd!" Although such horrendous gesture of the hanyo shouldn't be a surprise, still his cruelness could always exceed Annabelle's expectations.
"And you?" Kagura asked. Noting that Anna didn't seem to understand her inquiry, she complemented: "Naraku hasn't your heart into his domain, you are powerful and can go away whenever you wish. So why don't you react? Why don't you get the hell out of here?"
"If I run now, his rage will fall upon you" Anna stared at her while speaking.
"And do you care?" she bewildered the other's woman behavior and felt a bit intimidated by that serene, indecipherable celeste gaze.
Annabelle's response was a gentle smile, which made Kagura feel even more confused. So, to conceal her embarrassment, Naraku's offspring locked her eyes upon the opened wooden chest, observing the folded outfits inside.
"Do you like any of them?" Changing the subject, the red-haired lass asked.
Kagura first blinked, then she pointed to a dress Anna didn't wore for a long time, it was white with some green and red embroideries.
Belle knelt in front of the fancy furniture and got the clothes' pieces, putting each layer out, as an elegant corset on her lap. "You should try it then" she suggested.
"Oh, I don't know if I..." without noticing, the Wind Sorceress blushed and her awful mood has dissipated.
"You'll look gorgeous, trust me. Come, let me help you" Anna got up and came near to Kagura. Soon the foreigner was helping the yokai firstly to undress, and then to put the first layer of the garment, and after to tie the corset.
"How tight!" Kagura complained while Annabelle was pulling the silky stripes, making her waist look even more delicate and thin. Such comment of the demoness made the human chuckle a bit. At last Anna covered her with the last layers, and there she was, a perfect picture of a western lady.
"You should see yourself in a mirror now!" Belle sighed in admiration. "Oh, just one more thing... allow me to loose your hair" She pulled those dark locks from it's feathers and let them fall. Although that yokai was knew for being bad tempered, she didn't protest. The ginger lass braided a bit of her hair up, and adorned it with the usual white feather. "Done. You look so beautiful!"
Naraku suddenly entered the room in time to contemplate that curious scene, to say the least. One eyebrow arched while his eyes narrowed interrogative.
"Kagura, the dress is yours" While staring the hanyo into the depths of his rubies, Anna talked with his creation in an soft tone.
"Leave us" Naraku gave the command, without even looking at his servant. His eyes stuck on his mate.
Quiet, the suspicious Wind Sorcerer held the vast skirt's edges and walked away from the room briefly. As soon as her steps sounded distant, the arachnid mocked "So you two are best friends now" he chuckled acidly.
"What is the problem on having a friendly relationship with my keeper?" Annabelle came closer, responding him in the same tone.
"Was that a provocation?" He was showing a sharp smirk, yet at the same time his frowned face denounced irritation.
"Her life is already too bitter, I just wanted to offer some sweetness" It was obvious on her speech the reprehension's weight.
"Oh, Kagura has earned a defensor!" The hanyo gave one more step towards Belle, while chuckling ironically. "Have you treated her with kindness for being an example of a pure soul, or to convince her to give you free passage to go out of the castle?"
"I don't need to conquer Kagura's affection to achieve getting out of here, neither I need to deceive you, and you are pretty aware of it" Then she gave the final step to their closeness, challenging him as always.
"You are not going anywhere, Annabelle Rose" Though his voice sounded low, it had a deep, threatening tone.
"I am not asking your permission." Her nose softly rubbed against his and the warmth of their breath crossed. Naraku's dark timbre, instead of intimidating her, ended up instigating another sort of sensation, and the scent of such stimulus was more than evident for the hanyo's keen sense of smell. "I'll come back to you..." She whispered in Naraku's ear, with one cheek touching his. "I promise".
"You won't be able to pass through the barrier" Inconsistently, he tried to remain resolute, yet, the sweetness of her insistence, the proximity of their bodies made his eyes roll inside their orbits. His voracious hands contained her arms firmly, as if they intended to cease her, to keep her close. However, the milky skin just slipped from his fingers.
"Watch me" Anna moved away slowly, as her aura started to evolve her shapes. The alabaster luminescence reflected inside those scarlet eyes while he followed the lass to the veranda, then walked behind her steps, witnessing the feminine arms raise ahead, palms touching his forcefield and shattering it effortlessly.
Naraku thought about materializing his countless tentacles and bind her, tie her to the soil, but all he did was gaze her silhouette getting lost inside the mist, while he stood still, motionless, as in a trance.

How will I know where to find her? Annabelle was wondering while passing through a trail. She had acquired a habit of avoiding deep reflections about things, so the pain wouldn't be so heavy to bear, it made her forget to deepen a thought about the priestess invitation. The fuel moving Anna was Kikyo's knowledge about Ailyn's whereabouts.
Ailyn... Her sight burned, as her heart pulsed firmly, loudly. Their last time together has been in such horrendous situation! Her twin's life was so close to be ended by Belle's very hands... And who was the one to blame?
Naraku... Her eyelids sealed, steps ceased for some instants. Annabelle couldn't find words to describe her feelings just remembering his name. A moisture of rage and passion boiled within her core, awakening desires of killing, of grabbing, of possessing. What a brutal, dangerous sensation! Reason would get blurred, and suddenly she would find herself in a so primitive state as wete the first men's who inhabited the Earth. Anna waited for the moment Naraku would try to control her, and instead he simply watched her leaving the gloomy castle, without moving a finger to stop it.
Did he wish Annabelle to go away? Why didn't he try to manipulate her, or even erase her memories like he said he would do?
So many were the questions that her head began to ache. Finally, the sound of flowing waters captivated her ears. As soon as there was not a tree to cover her, the eyes felt hurt, for the sun was shinning bright, and in so short time Anna almost forgot it's warming sensation, or the melodic noises of the nature...
Of beauty it was so ease to forget, however all the harm never seemed so much fresh inside her mind. One hand rested over the chest, feeling the jewel shard's vibrating. This is it. Shikon no Tama has been feeding itself from her sorrows, and must be doing the same with Naraku's misery.
"I knew you would come" Kikyo's voice sounded serene and a bit far, inducing Annabelle to lift her gaze from the stream to the side, at last finding her. The priestess was sitting upon a moss covered rock, her dark eyes looking into the distance as a discrete smile marked her pale lips. "You must really be a very naive person".
"Will you try to kill me again?" Anna slowly walked towards her.
"... or very self-confident" she concluded, now staring attentively at the foreigner's bold semblance.
"Where is Ailyn?" The lass remained austere, feeling prepared for whatever would happen next.
"Before saying anything, I owe you an apology" The miko elegantly raised up. Annabelle noticed that she wasn't carrying a bow, nor any arrow, and such vision made the red-haired woman sigh in relief. "I exceeded myself and almost got you killed".
"And what have made you change your mind?" Stunned, Anna needed to ask. Blue eyes were shimmering widened. She would have waited anything but a humble attitude of that clay doll, and when she thought nothing could be even more surprising, her ears listened that miko say:
"Your sister".

Hours have passed like years, even the notion of time of a supernatural creature as him was something singular. Days, for Naraku, used to be insignificant, so were a year or two. Nevertheless, that should have been the longest afternoon of his life.
Kanna offered her mirror as a window to the outside world, but her master has strangely refused it.
"Leave me alone" it was all he said, sitting against the wall, arms crossed, hands hidden inside the clear kimono's long sleeves, his loosened locks cascading over his shoulders, framing that pale, frowned face.
His incarnation turned aside and silently left that chamber, closing the door, leaving the spider in the dark.
The hanyo couldn't stop thinking about how many time should pass for he finally act. Then, his agreement with the human would come clear into his mind. If she was by his side, it was by her own choice, not for any plot of him, right? So why the hell would Naraku freak out and bring her back by force, when the woman gave her word she would return?
This woman will drive you mad... the familiar chorus sang it's cursed refrain.
"Stop buzzing inside my head" the arachnid replied impatiently, facing the gleaming gemstone ahead, the only spot of light in that place.
Look at you, reduced to your sad lack of self-confidence, tormented by such irrelevant ideas, forsaking your ambitions...
"I did not forget my goals". He futilely tried to maintain the composure.
Is that so? Then why you hadn't put any effort on collecting more jewel shards, nor planned new ways of hurting your enemies since you've brought this woman to your home?
"I know very well the things I must do". The hanyo closed his eyes and inhaled.
Don't you care if Inuyasha and Kikyo manage to be together again?
His eyelids opened slowly, revealing the fire of rage into his crimson gaze.
What matters the most to you, Naraku?
The halfbreed demon didn't respond, for deep inside his core he has been asking the same question. His true priorities looked like a dense, blurred fog, mixing all his longings. Yet, when he would think about the one thing he wished the most, the ginger lass' smile was the first picture drawn in his mind, then he would remember the feeling of peace, being sheltered by soft kisses and embraces into a cave on a rainy day. That spark of tenderness, oh how he missed it! Naraku believed he would find joy as soon as Annabelle would be in his arms, when she would finally be his, yet even sharing a bed with her, he still didn't feel she was all his. In fact, it was like Anna couldn't look more unreachable. They could copulate as two wild animals and although Annabelle has shown she needed it to survive, Naraku couldn't help but feel the woman slipping through his fingers. He could lose her anytime, if he ever had her one day.
You are weak. Those voices pulsed in the same rhythm of his racing heart. And unworthy to have Shikon's power on your behalf.
The harsh words sounded like a sentence and he would not accept that. Crimson eyes narrowed, stained by the peculiar shadow they carried from the birth, his internal and natural chaos. If the damn almost completed pearl had a mouth, it would be smirking in that moment.

"So Ailyn told our story to you... Why?" Annabelle wondered with one hand holding her own chin, while her sight kept locked on the agitated stream.
"Your sister looks like a wandering regretful child" Kikyo declared. "For her sake, I learned about your life and all you had to endure till you arrive in this land. Now, more than never, I can see how alike we are, and how I have wronged you" She sighed, showing genuine regret.
"Alike?" Kneeling by the riverside, the foreigner chuckled. "You mean, in our powers?"
"You too know the pain of loss and the impossibility of turning back in time to make a different choice" the miko said vaguely. While Annabelle was focusing her gaze on the blue of the waters, Kikyo glanced at the blue of the sky.
"What choice makes you regret so much?" Anna asked without malice, attentive on what would come next.
"I don't even know from where to start..." she spoke in a low, yet peaceful tone, though the pale semblance looked so sad and empty that was pitiful to see. "I could have never sheltered a moribund bandit, at first. I could also have never suggested Inuyasha to use Shikon no Tama to become human... I could have never tried to take your life" and the priestess stared the foreign lass. "I am glad I have failed though".
"You are not as bitter as I thought" she released the impression without noticing. Then, Anna saw the miko clenching her jaw discretely. "Oh, I'm sorry!" She slapped her own forehead, pretty much embarrassed.
"I cannot argue with that" Kikyo showed up a half smile. "However, I was not always like this... I have been through a lot of misfortunes that eventually embittered my heart" she took some air to finally discretely look at the ginger lass, noting her emphasizing features.
"What do you want from me?" Anna avoided to mention matters of Kikyo's past, because she didn't want to trouble the priestess with undesirable memories. "You might not have called me here just to reveal my sister's whereabouts, nor to tell that you know everything about my past and apologize" She raised up and cleaned the dust on her skirt.
"I came to make you a suggestion..."
"If it's about helping you and the others to defeat Naraku, please, don't even start" Annabelle anticipated herself. "I don't wish to do him any harm".
"While you refuse to face what is needed to be done, you end up accidentally bringing pain to countless other people. How many lives could be spared, and how many suffering could be avoided if you would just accept the task to finish him?" Kikyo spoke eloquently, glaring at Anna, reading the lass' every feature. "A power such as yours cannot be given for nothing. Have you never wondered if destroying Naraku could be your destiny?"
"I don't believe in destiny" she wanted to sound firm, but her semblance of confusion was a denounce itself.
"You said yourself you do not love him, so why are you wasting your time sharing a roof with Naraku? Does he have any leverage against you to keep you by his side?"
"No, I... I chose to be with him" Anna stroked one cheek and her eyes lowered shamefully.
"Why?" The miko, on the other hand, wasn't afraid or shameful on gazing at her incisively.
"I don't know, it's like I felt a huge necessity of..." Anna subtly blushed, her face seemed to burn. How would she explain to an almost sacred maiden her urge to fulfill her lust with the hanyo? "I just need him".
Kikyo silently came closer, gazing into a specific spot between Annabelle's breasts. Suddenly, the priestess rested one palm over there, and before the Scottish woman could pronounce any protest, she said: "It's this shard and you know it. As soon as you get rid of this piece, you shall be free of Naraku as well" Dark and turquoise eyes sparked together.
"I tried, but it looks like he put a forceshield around it, there was an electric stove and..."
"I can take it off".
"What?" Anna's eyes widened.
"Do you want me to remove the shard?" the miko offered gently.
Annabelle sealed her lips, her every inch trembling inside. One feet gave a large step behind, then the other followed, soon her throbbing chest was away from Kikyo's touch. She still could feel it burning though, and her thoughts were all circling around the hanyo's name and the sick needing to return to his castle. She infernally longed to be with him.
"What a pity..." Kikyo sighed in conformation, starting to walk away. However, she said one more thing before leaving: "If you ever decide to release yourself from Naraku's claws and live your own life, you will find a good use to your gifts in a village nearby a sacred mount. You could nurse the sick, comfort the orphans and the widows..." She blinked slowly and tranquil, then, over one shoulder, the miko looked at Anna again. "And you shall find some comfort to yourself." At last, the advice she was giving has been the recipe Kikyo has been trying to follow. Something which brought sense to her existence was sharing her priestess' gifts to the ones in need. "Do not let Naraku embitter your heart, as he did with mine" the miko concluded, and after she resumed to walk away.
Belle listened very carefully every word of the maiden. She felt like Kikyo's intuit with that meeting has always been showing her a way out, and not necessarily the one of being the spider halfbreed demon's reaper. Kikyo wished to show to Annabelle that her life still had a purpose, and the lass would not forget that conversation, for sure. However, to persist on thinking about the miko's suggestion was not an option at the moment, for the sound of shaking trees was more than an alarm.
The two women raised their eyes and saw a boy jumping from branch to branch.
"Kohaku!" The ginger one recognized him instantaneously and screamed, yet the kid didn't seem to hear her voice. "I have a very bad feeling about this!" She said to the other.
"Follow him" Kikyo gave another advice, which Annabelle followed immediately.
