The group of friends was camping in the middle of the verdant forest, sheltered by the high treetops. One of the lads was absent though, and for this reason the girl laying into a sleeping bag was showing certain annoyance on her gaze. One more person remained awake, holding a weapon carved in yokai bones. Sango was watching the fire pit flames' agonizing dance while thinking about the multiple tragedies that had fell upon her in such a short time, then Kagome suddenly sat and shouted, alarmed:
"I sense a shard presence approaching!"
Her abrupt movement awoke Shippo, who has been sleeping on the edge of her improvised bed. Miroku, always aware, opened his eyes in a second and then they all stared at each other, knowing that whatever was about to happen should be related to some Naraku's plot. So Kagome indicated the shard's trail giving some steps ahead, with her bow in hands, ready for a possible combat.
Not so far, in a place where there weren't trees in such abundance, the winds were blowing agitated, embracing Kagura and Kohaku, both sitting upon a large white feather.
To the first sight, the human trio and the little demon fox bewildered the Wind Sorceress garments, for it was looking pretty much like Annabelle's dresses. Yet, in the circumstances of such meeting and focusing on they all knew about that demoness' creator, everyone felt vigilant and got ready for the worst. Shippo left some of his magical mushrooms at his disposal. Yet, a hand holding Kohaku's shoulder released him. Kagura indicated with her eyes to where the boy should go. After a few confused blinks, Sango's little brother got down the feather and walked towards the group. He didn't even hold a weapon. Kohaku was dressing his old, simple clothes.
Slowly, Sango let her guard down and rested Hiraikotsu on the grass. Absolutely nothing on the boy's expressions indicated hostility or emptiness. They had just a wandering and innocent child ahead of them.
"Don't you ask me why I am here doing this, cause even I don't know the reason. Naraku just gave the order to retrieve the brat. Of course he must come after the jewel shard soon or later, but that is your problem, not mine" Kagura explained before shrugging and then flying away.

"That was so strange..." Shippo whispered to Kagome while they were observing from afar Sango and her brother sitting side by side in front of a creek. The morning sun was shinning softly, and the large leaves of the high trees were dividing the clear rays into separated straight lines and some shinning spots.
"You're right Shippo, I don't know what to think as well, but I believe we have to be careful" The school girl tried to be wise, however she wouldn't have the courage to talk with the demon slayer about the matter, not so soon at least.
"So you still don't remember anything, Kohaku?" The older sister asked, looking at him apprehensively. Their proximity was such that their shoulders collided and the boy blushed without noticing.
"N-no, I'm sorry..." he cringed, with his body shrinking, looking scared and timid. "My mind looks like a big void, all I remember is how was my life in the castle".
"And how was it in there?" What if her brother could give some useful informations about their hateful enemy? With her heart filled by rage, Sango went on inquiring: "What Naraku has done to you?"
"He always treated me as a slave and commanded me to do awful things, and I wasn't able to disobey..." His arms, crossed over his knees, tightened an embrace around himself, his brownish eyes twinkled for some instants, visibly sad. Kohaku's sorrowful semblance made Sango regret to push him that way. Then, the boy's features began to be softened as soon as he started to tell about the arriving of a pleasing guest: "Then, one day, a special lady came. Her hair had the same color of a pumpkin's inside, and her eyes looked like the daily summer sky, she didn't even seem to belong to this world..."
"Anna..." Sango murmured, reminding the last time they met, and the promise the lass has made about protecting her brother.
"The mistress was very kind. She sang and played harp to me" He showed a half smile "and since she stepped a foot in the castle, my former master's behavior changed".
"Changed how?" she asked.
"I don't know how to explain, it's like that lass' presence has turned him less cruel..." The boy sighed. "He seems to like her very much".
"Kagome!" The young demon slayer called her friend without thinking twice and she came without delay, being followed by the little demon fox. "You need to listen to this!" Sango told anxiously. "Kohaku, please, go on" she asked softly, for her younger brother's embarrassment was pretty evident.
"Please Kohaku, feel free to speak as you want, don't need to be shy" Kagome smiled friendly, helping him to find the courage to keep on telling about his journey so far.
"My master..." he breathed in deeply "I mean, my former master Naraku has set me free because that lady asked him".
"What?!" Shippo shouted, got pale and his tiny body fell behind, rolling himself in his own tail, as he was a furry ball. His eyes twirled confused and the little yokai couldn't guess if he should cry or laugh about that situation. "Naraku? The Naraku? I can't believe!"
"It's unlike Naraku acting this way, he has to have a wicked intention behind this gesture" Sango touched her chin, frowning a bit. Oh, yes, that bastard must have been scheming some elusion, he would probably make Kohaku attack her at the first chance, as he had already done before. After all, the jewel shard remained inside the boy's back, obviously the malicious hanyo would come to get it back at some point, just like Kagura said. No, that all could only be a new way to make her suffer, even if that was the case though, Sango would not give up on the last piece of family she had and her almond eyes reflected that determination, for not even she knew what to say about everything she just had listened.
While the demon slayer was finding herself surrounded by suspicion, Kagome's heart was warmed by a feeling of hope, she wasn't only benevolent, but sensitive as well. A voice, deep inside, was telling her that this time there were no shenanigans, but only acts inspired by the edge of despair... by the edge of the feelings.
"Keh!" Finally Inuyasha's voice sounded. He has arrived in time to hear what he just considered an absurd and didn't restrain his opinions about the matter "You must be joking, brat! Of course Naraku wouldn't let you go just because he has a crush on Anna-don't-know-who! Not even for Kikyo he would do such a thing!" He crossed his arms and closed his eyes, turning his face to the side. "It's obviously a trap!"
"Inuyasha!" Kagome got near, scolding him for his attitude. Sango and Kohaku were visibly disconcerted after the inuhanyo's unburdening. That dog ears of his surely had helped him to hear them from afar.
"Speaking of Kikyo, we know very well that you and she must have been seeing each other yesterday and for that reason you weren't here when Kagura came to deliver Kohaku!" Shippo said in a challenging tone, with hands on his waist, hitting one foot on the ground. The little fox demon didn't notice his words made not only the half demon uncomfortable, but also his so dear friend from the future, who was keeping some feelings and sorrows just for herself.
"What did I miss?" Miroku came near, carrying a wild pig carcass over his shoulders. The animal was so heavy that the monk needed to use his golden stick as support so he could keep moving. "Must be a very interesting gossip for you to leave me in the woods with our little hunting, making me carry it alone!" he complained with his hanyo friend.
"Keh! Our hunting? It was I who killed it, you didn't move a finger! You have to carry it at least, to be useful somehow" Albeit the offensive words, the grimace on the Inuhanyo's face made the young houshi laugh, as always.
"No matter what happens, and whatever has brought you here, I'll take care of you" Sango held her little brother carefully, showing him a tender smile, trying to calm him down after Inuyasha's burst.
"And now what? Naraku releasing one of his puppets for a woman's sake? Don't make me laugh!" Yet, the grumpy Inuyasha insisted on speaking unpleasant comments.
"Did I hear it right?" Miroku went to the two women of the group. Kagome nodded positively to his question. Shippo remained dizzy because of that story, little Kirara was on the riverside drinking some water as nothing extraordinary has ever happened. We need to wait the succession of events to know what is Naraku's real intent. The monk thought while directing his gaze to the sky.
Inuyasha, visibly irritated, just took some distance from the group for a few moments. Kagome worriedly gazed at him. She could imagine how her companion must feel lost facing such odd informations about Naraku. No one of them would ever expect anything similar to what Kohaku has described. And there was Annabelle in the middle of that hurricane, who she still was convicted to be a good person. There must be more layers covering that plot, Kagome thought. Nothing could ever be so simple as black or white, good or bad, and deep inside she knew Inuyasha looked so conflicted, because he was also aware of it. It would be dangerous trying to see the man behind the monster that Naraku was, and did the inuhanyo, the monk and the demon slayer even wanted to do so, after everything that vile creature put them through?
To be continued...

Alright, the plot is getting more and more complicated at this point. And worry not, for it will get WORSE. :o) (oh, how funny she is! hahaha)
Speaking seriously now, I like to show every point of view in my stories, because the characters have their own thoughts, based on their experiences, and I think showing it enrich the narrative, even if this story is most of all about Naraku, Annabelle and Kagewaki (yes, you will see more of him still). What are you thinking about this "opera" so far? Are you ready for more chapters? We are still in the middle of it, there are much things to happen, following the anime chronology. Hope you like it all!
Thanks for everyone who are still following this fic. Please, don't be shy, share your opinions with me, or give me some orientation about English grammar, I know I still have some orthography issues to solve, some words are too similar and sometimes it gets me a bit confused, I'm sorry for that, but I'm working to improve, I assure you, well, any feedback you could share will make my day. :D
See ya, kissuuus!
