Me From Myself
Chapter 5 –
My Purpose
She looked down at
the rocks beneath her. She could easily climb this balcony and jump. If she
could only jump…then she would not be alone. She would be among the dead. She
wouldn’t be alone.
“Mira-sama…” Her mind drifted. Silver hair; golden eyes; indigo stripes.
Sesshoumaru. Why did that name sound so familiar? Mira had told her that that
was the first name she uttered upon waking. Had she known him before? She shook
her head. It didn’t matter. Mira…Mira…the only person that she knew in the
entire world was dead. She stepped toward the balcony, shivering, her kimono
billowing around her. Those men…had they raped her? She was certain of it. Her
bare feet tapped lightly against the tiles. Her heart hurt; her head hurt; her
body hurt. If she could just jump…
Would anyone care? Would anyone notice it? No one knew her in this world
anyway…she was alone. She touched the cold fence-like columns. They reached up
to her waist. How would she climb it? Tears were streaming, cold and salty. She
could not even do this right. With sudden resolve, she gripped the fence
and pulled. She had one foot up before she slipped and landed hard on her back,
hitting her head on the stone. The sobs were free now. Yes…poor pathetic
Kagome…she could not even kill herself…
(……………………..)
He sensed it. It came to him like a thump in the chest;
a pain that was so sudden that he just wanted to get rid of it. He wondered
what was causing it. He stretched his senses until he could feel her. She was
in pain.
Yumi, the partner of his conversation, smiled when he disappeared. She knew
where he was going. Somehow, she knew that Sesshoumaru would no longer be
alone. This girl that came to them had a purpose. She would brighten up their
lives.
Yumi was not one to belien con coincidence. She knew that everything happened
for a reason. Secretly, she was afraid that the girl would leave after all. She
could not possibly imagine her staying after what happened, and yet at the same
time, the swan knew that she would indeed remain. Call it a sixth sense, if you
will, but somehow, she knew.
(………………….)
Inuyasha looked out beyond the horizon from his perch on God Tree. His bright
amber eyes were saddened. He knew that Kagome was alive. She had to be…and if
she was, he would find her. His bangs fell down to cover his eyes, covering the
dark shadows that had gathered beneath them. She was alive…Kikyo’s soul was
alive. He would be damned if he didn’t find her. Why? Why was it now that he
was feeling this way? Why could he not have told her before that he loved her
more than life itself?
Be happy…Inuyasha…
His fist connected with the bark. He ignored the pain. He missed her smile, her
radiant personality. He missed her. His Kikyo. Not the imposter that was
here now. He missed his old Kikyo. He wanted to sit with her and speak with
her. He wanted to come back to that time on the boat. He wanted to run his
fingers through her luxurious hair. Damn her! Damn her! Why did she leave him?
Why?! But he knew…he should have yelled out “Kagome” not “Kikyo”. Then…they she
could have stayed…he hated himself…
Kikyo watched sadly. She wished that she could help him; wished that Kagome had
not made such a serious mistake. But somewhere in her new soul, she felt the
stirrings of hatred. She was grateful to the girl who had given her a life, but
at the same time hated her. Why did she bring her back into this world, only to
suffer more? Why did she not let her rest in peace in the realms of death? As
she swept the steps of the shrine now occupying Kaede’s old hut, she wondered
what exactly she would do if it turned out that the girl was alive after all.
Inuyasha would go back to her, she was sure. A dark thought crossed her mind.
She loved Inuyasha. If there was something that the girl gave back to her that
she hated more than anything it was this feeling. A love that would never be
returned bloomed within her, and in that moment, Kikyo knew that if she ever
saw Kagome again, she would kill her.
(………………………)
Shippo played in the water, watching the trees around him and trying to sense
any upcoming danger. He watched Miroku across from him. Four years…it had been
four years since Kagome had left. Yes…Shippo thought…left. In his heart, he
knew that she was somewhere out there in this big world, still alive and
waiting for him to find her. His eyes were unfocussed. And yes…Shippo was
determined to find her.
“Miroku…why have you not proposed to Sango yet? You said you would once you
defeated Naraku.” The monk’s face was suddenly crushed.
“She has enough to worry about with Kohaku…and since when have you started
asking such things, Shippo?” Shippo smirked.
“I’m not a baby anymore.” An was was true. In the years that passed, Shippo had
grown. No longer could anyone see the bow in his hair. No longer could anyone
pick on him without seriously regretting it. Shippo’s cute baby features were
replaced by those of a young adult. In fact, Miroku, to his shock, had found
out that Shippo was older than he looked. One night, the topic of Shippo’s age
was brought up in training. It was a habit for the monk and kitsune to go
sparring every night. Shippo had hesitantly admitted that he was at least forty
five years old. This meant that he was older than most members of the group,
although he never actually acted like it. As soon as this was known to
everyone, the fox was no longer allowed to bathe with the women, who considered
him absolutely adorable. Miroku had patted him on the back for that one. Shippo
was probably more perverted than the monk himself, not to mention more
successful!
“I don’t know about it, Shippo. Do you think she would agree?” Shippo snorted.
“I see the way she looks at you, Miroku. She likes you…way more than likes,
even.” At these words, the monk seemed heartened.
“I don’t know. I still believe that Kagome is somewhere out there, and I think
that we should go find her before anything serious happens. I owe her the
chance to propose, so I don’t feel that it would be right to do it without
knowinr whr whereabouts.” Shippo suddenly looked hopeful.
“So you believe that she still lives too?!” Miroku nodded gravely.
“I think everyone does, Shippo.” The fox frowned.
“Inuyasha may not like it, but I have a feeling that there is one who can help
us find her. It’s the only place we haven’t looked, and I believe that it will
yield something.” Miroku was immediately at attention.
“You can’t mean the Western Lands…” Shippo nodded.
(………………………….)
“Aim your weapon higher!” Kohaku concentrated as he threw the Hiraiketsu across
the trees, cutting them in half but missing the pole. He caught it and nearly
fell over. Sango rushed to catch him. “I told you to aim higher!” The boy
blushed in embarrassment. He hated how overprotective Sango was.
“Nee-chan, I can do it myself. Stop watching over me every second!” He hadn’t
meant for it to come out harsh, but it did. Sango blushed.
“I’m sorry…it’s just…lately, I’ve felt…” She didn’t go on. He hugged her.
“Aim highere sae said, and threw the Hiraiketsu once more. Sango watched from
the sides, a guilty feeling spreading in her heart.
Kagome…where are you?
(………………………….)
She was huddled on his balcony. He could smell the tears. He watched as
she stood up and tried to pull herself up onto the banister. She succeeded. It
hit him. At first he didn’t want to believe that this was the same woman he had
known.
Back off Sesshoumaru, or I will shoot you!
Was this pathetic
creature truly that same Kagome? In his mind, a voice range. You did this to
her. And he agreed. He stepped towards her.
“Wench. What are you doing?” She turned around fast, almost slipping. He
started for her, but calmed when he noticed that she wasn’t falling. He
breathed out.
“Don’t come any closer!” She was stupid if she thought he couldn’t catch her,
get her down, and keep her there faster than she could blink. “I’m gonna jump!
I’m gonna do this right! You can’t stop me!” Her eyes were crazy again. It was
then that he was reminded of how small she was. She looked like fragile china
that would break from the simple gust of the wind. She had her arms around her.
Her feet were bare. She was shivering.
“Coward.” Her eyes widened.
“What?” His own sun-like depths bore into her. The felt the weight of his
intense gaze like led on her chest.
“You are a coward. Haven’t you thought about how Inuyasha might feel if you
were to die?” He knew for a fact that his brother would not care, probably.
When she was injured before, it was not her name he screamed. But at this
moment, he didn’t care. He wanted her off the banister. “And your other
friends…the exterminator…your kit…the monk…” There was no recognition in her
eyes. Another thought hit him. She hadn’t seemed to recognize him before
either. Did she not remember anything?
“Inu…yasha…” Her hair blew around her face. She looked so lost that he suddenly
felt an uneted ted tenderness towards her. The feeling was totally alien and he
brushed it aside quickly. Emotions were for fools. She was a perfect example of
that. “…monk…I…don’t remember…” He stepped towards her. She started. He
stopped.
“Do you remember anything of your past?” She didn’t answer him. He took another
step. She freaked.
“You’re lying! You’re lying! You just want to force me again!” In her fear, she
took the last step back and fell. He dove after her; another action without
thought. She was in his arms, fighting, biting, kicking, screaming.
&;&nb;
“Let me go! Let me die! I don’t want to be alone anymore!” Her screams were
causing him more pain than her weak struggles. He growled, placing a forceful
hand over her mouth.
“Silence, wench!” She bit him. He ignored the pain. She kept biting. “Coward.”
She renewed her efforts and he had to hand it to her, he almost got annoyed
enough to drop her. Her muffled screams didn’t stop. He leapt from balcony to
balcony until he reach the Northern Tower of the castle. He leapt to the
peak. Here he stopped.
“Mrf!” Another bite.
“If you want to die so much, wench, then goodbye…” He let go.
