�Geez why couldn�t they assign me to a community center that was closer to home?� Kagome bitched to herself. As she walked nearly a mile to the boy and girls youth center where she had to start her 24 hour community service.

She couldn�t really find the building because there was no sign indicating that there was any youth center to be found in the area. Which was kind of odd since it was located in the city area. When all else failed she asked somebody and was pointed towards a building that had a large neon �Youth Center� sign on it.

�Oh gosh I�m losing it.� she sighed as she walked in.
Outside the community center was desolate and calm, the inside was like all out war! Kagome was literally knocked over the minute she walked into the building. By none other than kids that were around souta�s age and under, not that they stopped, as she got up kagome noticed she had foot prints all over her new uniform.

�What I wouldn�t give for a can of mace and some rope to tie up those little thugs!� she muttered under her breath as she dusted off her clothes and walked over to the counter that had a sign labeled �Youth Center Assistance� along with other colorful signs and pictures.
�Hello!� she shouted, not seeing anyone.
�Yeah be with ya in a sec.� some one shouted from under the desk that was behind the counter.

A minute later a red haired wolf demon popped up suddenly, making kagome gasp.

�Shoot! You scared me!� kagome gasped catching her breath trying to slow down her rapid heartbeat.
�Sorry.� the wolf demon grinned. �Had to reconnect the wires under the computer. Sometimes the kids like to put gum down there for fun. So what can I help you with?�
�I�m here for my community service work.� Kagome strained not wanting to say it outloud as people passed her by.
�Oh! I�m sorry we only allow community service in the summer.� the wolf said.
�What?! Wait a minute my caseworker never mentioned that to me! Great.� Kagome exasperated.
�Caseworker?� the wolf asked her curiously.
�Yeah, I�m assigned 24 hour community service here. It�s either that or I take those 3 hour classes for 2 weeks with the drug addictive slash new underworld youth of japan.� Kagome sighed in defeat.
�Uh� underworld? I think I saw that movie-� the wolf muttered as if confused. �Whoa! Wait a minute! Are you higurashi?�
�Uh yeah. Kagome Higurashi.� Kagome replied.
�Oh! I�m so sorry. Mr. Bennett the centers branch leader told me you were going to be here.� the wolf said slapping her hand against her forehead. � I thought you were looking for charity work for college or something.�
�No thanx, I wouldn�t be here unless I had to.� Kagome said pinning herself against the counter as another heard of kids ran past her.
�Understandable. Here let me show you around and get you started.� The wolf she laughing. �By the way I�m Ayame Syoran, nice to meet you kagome.�
After about 15 minutes of touring the building kagome made sure she knew where all the bathrooms were, the center was quite large! It had 2 floors, and a lower level under building Ayame said they treated like a basement, had washer and dryer and everything in case of emergencies. Kagome had never actually set foot in one of the youth centers before, now she wished she had under different circumstances.
�Last but not least this is our pool area. There�s a Jacuzzi over there, but as I said before the steam room is connected to the gym.� Ayame explained.
�Wow, I could really spend a lot of time here.� Kagome said.
�Yeah, and the pay is good, you just have to have experience with kids, they rule from 12 to 7 everyday here. Well, except Sundays. It�s kind of a coincidence that you pop up when were are seriously short staffed here.� Ayame said leading kagome back into the building.
�How wonderful.� Kagome muttered.
�Don�t be such a downer about it. It won�t be so bad, and before you know it you�ll be all done!� Ayame snapped her fingers.
�Right.� Kagome muttered.
�Ok, you�ll need to change out of your clothes though.� Ayame said leading her to the girls locker room.
�Why?� Kagome asked.
�Because if you�re gonna have to work at this time of the day everyday, you don�t want to wear your school uniform.� Ayame said pointing to a foot mark that was on kagome�s shirt.
�I see your point.� Kagome muttered.
�Here! I know they�re tacky but they�ll have to do for today.� Ayame said opening a cabinet and pulled out a large youth center t-shirt and some sweat pants.

�Make sure to bring a change of clothes tomorrow like jeans, those are easy to wash out. And pick a locker to keep your stuff in, I�ll go get you a combination lock for it.� Ayame said a she walked off.
�It has begun.� Kagome moaned dejectedly as she began to undress.

�So how was your first day at Shintaki high dear?� Mrs. Higurashi asked kagome as they all sat down for dinner that night.
�Great!� Kagome lied.
�Really? Well, that�s just wonderful. Did you make any new friends?� Mrs. Higurashi asked pushing for more information from her daughter.
�Well, not really, I met a lot of new people. I spent most of my time with Bankotsu, and his friends.� she admitted.
�How nice, how is my favorite nephew? I didn�t get to see you all off this morning.� Mrs. Higurashi asked.
�He�s ok. I got a few classes with him, so I didn�t really feel alone most of the time.� kagome said feeding bouyo their cat a piece of her mackerel.
�Cool! I�m gonna go to kagome�s new high school too! Right mom?� Souta asked.
�Well, sure why not.� Mrs. Higurashi smiled knowing it was going to be a long way off anyhow. �Oh yes I forgot! We�re going to have a guest Wednesday for dinner.�
�Really? Who?� Grandpa asked.
�One of the administrators from the school board.� Mrs. Higurashi said.
�Oh no. Are they coming to interrogate me or something?� Kagome moaned.
�Well, I don�t think so. I�ve known him for years. He was one of your fathers old friends. Kind of interesting that I saw him at the meeting today.� She said. Since kagome changed schools, her mom decided she wanted to join Shintaki school PTA, which was rather fast since kagome just started today. �He also mentioned that his youngest son and daughter still attend Shintaki High.�
�That�s.. uh� nice. But how come you never mentioned this old friend of dad�s before?� Kagome asked confused.
�I don�t know, after me and your father go married he sort of moved away, we never really heard from him much, your father kept emphasizing that he was building up some corporate company.� Mrs. Higurashi said confused.
�He was lying.� Grandpa said out of the blue.
�What was that?� Mrs. Higurashi asked stunned.
�I know of whom you speak of. It�s that Inu youkai he became friends with when his finished college.� Grandpa explained.
�Well� ok so he omitted a few things, no need to get argumentive, father. And how did you know that?� Mrs. Higurashi asked.
�Because I met him. Years ago before you two were married. Surprises me that the old dog settled down and produced heirs.� Grandpa said slurping his noodles.
�Well, grandpa maybe it�s a different guy.� Kagome said. �There are a lot of youkai that mingle with humans in this century.�
�They�ve always mingled child! But you have a point there.� He conceded.
�Anyway, Mr. Taisho�s coming over for dinner Wednesday at 7. Kagome I need you home before then. You need to find your cell phone, what if something happens to you out there?� Mrs. Higurashi said.
�Gaaah!� Grandpa yowled as if burned by something.
�What�s wrong grandpa? Are the noodles to hot for you?� Souta asked.
�I forbid it! You cannot bring that demon into the shrine!� Kagome�s Grandfather said sternly.
�Mom did you say Taisho?� Kagome asked nearly as shocked at her moms response as well as her grandfather�s ludicrous behavior.
�Yes kagome, and you cannot forbid any my guests from our home. Especially friends of the family.� Mrs. Higurashi said.

�oh my god! Oh my god! Taisho! Inuyasha�s father is coming to dinner?!� Kagome thought.

�Kill me. Kill me now.� she muttered resting her head against the table.
�Kagome are you ok?� Souta gasped.
�Friend?! You believe the great dog demon is our friend?!� Grandpa snapped.
�*sigh* Please father just let it go. He just wants to come and see the family. Get better acquainted. He�s not coming to murder us or something.� Mrs. Higurashi sighed with frustration.
�And how do you know that?! If he comes here I want you to lock kagome in the temple. Or better yet, in the well! The power within the well will keep her safe. I don�t want him to catch scent of kagome, she�s so innocent! The Inu youkai should not be around a young miko like kagome, her power will attract them. They will devour her whole!� He raved on and on.
�Oh father, not this again.� Mrs. Higurashi sighed. �And the well does not have sacred powers. I should know kagome and souta have been dropping baby bottles and other things down that well for over a decade now.�
�What power? If kagome has powers do I get some when I�m 16, too? Cause that�ll be so cool! I could throw up barriers in the middle of the street and BAM! 15 no! 20 car pile up! That would be awesome!� Souta exclaimed happily.
�Father kagome was never trained to be a miko, you know that.� Mrs. Higurashi continued on as she finished her meal.
�Well she should! Girls got to find a way to protect herself! You just said it yourself, she goes to school with that dog demon�s spawns! What if they already have her scent? What if he�s come here just to devour-�
�Grandpa Please!� Kagome shouted.
�No need to shout, kagome, what I say is true, you must take up your role in the temple.� Grandpa said drinking the rest of his tea.
�I don�t want to be a priestess grandpa.� Kagome sighed
�As I told you already! Stop pressuring her, kagome doesn�t have to be a priestess if she doesn�t choose to. She�s been through enough father, it�s time to let kagome just be kagome.� her mother said in finality.
�But!�
�No more! I mean it father, stop this now!� Her more said sternly as she started picking up the plates and putting them in the sink.
�Fine! When our shrine is over run by demons and is run to the ground I won�t be here to tell you I told you so!� He humped.
�There is one truth in that father. You won�t be here.� her mother growled.
�Um..I�m gonna go up and do my homework now.� Kagome said rushing off to her room, not looking back to see her grandfather�s eye bug out from shock.
