History Lesson – SPARTACUS lived from c.109 - 71 BC. He was a Thracian Gladiator and was born in Thrace, became a soldier, and was captured by the Romans. He was sold as a slave to be made a gladiator and with 70 comrades; he escaped, hid on Mount Vesuvius, and raised a large army of rebel slaves. With his army he defeated two Roman legions. Spartacus intended to lead the slaves over the Alps and out of Italy, but the slaves forced him to march on Rome. A fresh Roman army under Crassus finally defeated Spartacus and his men, and after his defeat, 6000 men were crucified along the Via Appia as a warning to other slaves. Gee…sounds like something Sesshomaru would do…
Randomness – I found a monarch butterfly caterpillar in my parent’s backyard yesterday when I went to visit! How cool is that? They’re so pretty! It’s getting ready to go into a chrysalis. Oh, and hot coco is really good. Yummmmmm…
Notes – To “Hats” – I agree somewhat, Kagome shouldn’t cry whenever an adversary appears but that’s something I’m not really looking at. I want Kagome to have a feminine, somewhat reality-like attitude at certain times in the story. After all, we as humans can take many instances of stress or anger, but after a while, we have to cry. Face it; no one can take emotional cruelty of sadness forever. At some point there is a breaking point and while this may account more towards women than men, many men do cry – just in their own kind of way. Anyway, I want Sesshomaru to see that she has strength but also innocent, womanly characteristics, even if they can be annoying. But thanks for the comments!

-To ‘Phoenix Wolf’- I didn’t forget the dagger, don’t worry. That comes in later. He he
~
To ‘Anon’ – Yeah I know, isn’t it great? The question though is, how long will it take him to realize it?
Thanks – I LOVE YOU ALL!!! I laughed so much with all of your wonderful reviews! But to specific people, here are my responses:
Thanks to ‘anime pixie’ – I’m so glad you think this story has potential! I admit that when I first posted this I thought it was going to suck…

Thank you to ‘iceraqs’ – You have a point. *laughing as I write this*

Thanks to ‘genseng’ – That’s ridiculous that the author would threaten to send out a virus. *Shudder* I can understand the hesitancy to review. Don’t worry though. My sense of humor isn’t that twisted…much. He he. But no, seriously I’m kidding. Lol. Ok I’m shutting up now.

Thanks to my beta reader, Pat for doing this for me! She’s been such a help!
Chapter 5: Sesshomaru, Be Gone!
Life is like a wayside bloom
The butterfly disdains,
But where the probing honey-bee
Finds nectar for her pains.
~Wayne Gard (Poem “Life”)
‘You are SUCH an IDIOT!’
‘This coming from the woman who is yelling at ‘me’.’
‘Don’t get fresh with me, you little bastard!’
He smiled slightly despite himself at her frigid words.
‘Better a bastard then a witch.’ He said smartly, waiting for her anticipated outburst.
She didn’t disappoint him. He heard her shriek an obscenity into his brain and laughed slightly.
‘So help me Sesshomaru…!’
‘I am going back…right now in fact, if that makes you happy.’ He said, changing the subject with the ease of a brushstroke on canvas.
She gave a small huff of exasperation but allowed the change.
‘What will you do?’ She asked, still a little grumpy from the slight on her profession.
He paused.
What would he do? He hadn’t, in truth, thought about it. He would need an excuse that was for certain. He would rather kill himself than let any of them know he was coming to get another look at the stupid girl!
It was interesting however seeing that ‘stupid girl’ chain his brother up with her unforeseen power. He was becoming interested in that…the blooming energy rising up slowly within her. It was still faint…a mere shadow of his own, but she could change that if she really wanted to.
But would she? He doubted it. She didn’t seem the type to fight willingly. But then again, not many demons or humans for that matter were like that… In this age everyone fought, and it didn’t matter who, what, or how rich you were. You were either a target or the arrow that was to strike it.
‘Will you cut her?’ Shikiba asked with interest as she followed his thoughts.
He began moving again, ignoring the comment.
‘For a demon, you aren’t very talkative.’ She observed diplomatically after a few silent moments.
‘Hhn…’ He paused again.
“Wait, isn’t reading one’s mind something of a witches talent?”
*****
“LET ME DOWN NOW-”
Her hands over her ears, Kagome tried screaming over him in order to talk with Miroku and Sango.
They hadn’t come back from their training because they both had huts on the outermost side of the village. This was so if an attack came, they had that side while Kagome and Inuyasha had the other. And so now, they had come over to talk with Inuyasha only to find him levitating in the air by pink cuffs, screaming his head off. So naturally, they both panicked. Who wouldn’t, the idiot was acting like some invisible foe was torturing him!
“-OR I’LL KEEP SCREAMING-”
“HE’S BEEN CURSED!” She yelled as Sango stuck her face next to Kagome’s lips.
“-BLOODY MURDER! I WANT DOWN! YOU HEAR ME?”
“NURSED?” Sango yelled back, Inuyasha keeping on tirelessly with his ranting.
“HOW COULD YOU DO THIS! WHAT THE HELL HAVE I-”
“CURSED!” Kagome shouted, her cheeks tingeing red in embarrassment.
“-EVER DONE TO YOU ALL?"
“CURSED? BY WHO?” Miroku screamed back.
“YOU ALL JUST-”
“BY ME!” Kagome shouted, her hands cupping over the sides of her mouth.
“-SUCK!”
“WHAT?” They both yelled.
“YOU JUST WAIT TILL I GET FREE, I’LL-”
“ME!” Kagome screeched, finally overpowering Inuyasha’s voice.
“-RIP YOU ALL A NEW ONE, SO HELP ME!”
“YOU?!”
“This is ridiculous!” Kaeda said out loud with a shudder as their screams pounded through her head. Gathering her bow and arrows, she aimed for Inuyasha’s right ear and fired.
There was a screech as it nicked his skin, and then the hut became deathly silent. And sighing in relief, she made her way to the three others.
“Now. What do we do about him?” She asked hoarsely. Kagome shook her head in answer.
“I don-” She stopped suddenly, as she spotted Sesshomaru in the doorway, his pristine white robes billowing in the breeze.
Momentarily, she lost her breath at the sight of him, and remembering that she was surrounded by her friends, she shook herself. But still…she hadn’t expected to see him there! Had she?
‘No. No, why would I? Why would I be expecting the blood thirsty, predatory, human hating, half-brother of Inuyasha? No of course i wasn't expecting him.’
At her surprised look, the others turned as well, Inuyasha doing the same. Once again he went into a fresh bought of screams, and grimacing, Kagome ran quickly over to Sesshomaru and tugged him quickly out of the door. Somewhat rudely, he pulled his arm from her grasp as she did so, and she blushed slightly at touching him, backing away a few steps to have some distance between them.
“Sorry…wow, I can actually he-”
“You are walking.” He interrupted her.
Kagome forgot what she was going to say momentarily at the comment. From inside she could still hear Inuyasha’s screams and began massaging her temples.
“Yes…I don’t know how…I just woke up this morning and didn’t feel any pain…except in my shoulder, but only if I-”
‘Wait…how did he know? Oh yeah, he was here yesterday. He must have assumed I was really hurt. Is it just me or are all demons so big on believing the first thing they see?’
He interrupted her again.
“Foolish human. You have done something else to my brother haven’t you?” Sesshomaru asked calmly as Miroku and Sango came out to join them.
Kagome blushed a deep crimson color in mortification.
“I…I…NO, I didn’t…!”
She gestured inside the hut frantically but he ignored it.
“What exactly did this foolish one do?” He asked the others without looking at them.
The appointed people looked at each other before stepping forward.
“She’s telling the truth.” Miroku said with a nod.
Kagome pushed the toe of her shoe into the dirt, too embarrassed to look him in the eye, and for a split second he found it somewhat charming before he cleared his head of the disgusting thought. Charming? Shikiba’s pet bat was more charming then this annoying human girl!
“I understand then.” He said, glancing down at her, holding her gaze.
“You haven’t tried to help him in case something else presents itself.” He said as he looked over her raven head.
She bowed her head more but nodded slightly. There was a pause as no one spoke and Kagome looked shyly back up at him.
‘My god he’s tall…it’s amazing to think and we’re both…well yeah…in my dreams.’
“You have no choice, so I suggest you at least make a passing effort to do something useful.” He said as Inuyasha shouted a particularly obscene string of words from inside the house.
She sighed.
“I feel bad enough as it is that I did ‘that’ to him…” She said in reference to Inuyasha’s constraints, gesturing towards the house to further her point.
“If you do nothing then he will remain there. I find it something of an interest that the bands have not just worn off.” He said, beginning to walk back to the hut.
She stilled at his words and hesitantly followed after him. What was wrong with her? Why was she suddenly so shy? He wasn’t exactly being nice to her…but then again he wasn’t being unkind like he usually was. Distant yes, but not unkind.
And besides that, had he just praised her? No…no she was just imagining it. That demon especially did not give praise. He was just thinking out loud, that was all. After all she had wondered that as well. Hoping…praying that they would do just that. Inuyasha had been like that all night and it was getting into the afternoon. There was no way that being held up like that was comfortable…but then again he was half demon so maybe it wasn’t so bad.
‘Kagome, this is the guy who willingly sleeps in large, uncomfortable trees.’ She thought as she shook her head and entered the dwelling.
As she did so, Inuyasha took one look at her and opened his mouth to start screaming again. In response, she smacked a hand across his mouth, muffling the noise.
“Inuyasha so help me, I want to reverse this but not if you keep carrying on like this!” She said quietly, wincing slightly as the arm movement pulled at her shoulder. She really had to congratulate Kaeda on that potion…it was a plain miracle.
“Wabhe doi’g ere?” He asked against her hand angrily as Sesshomaru entered with the others and watched him intently, studying the unfaltering condition of his bindings.
“He’s…hey you know what, I don’t know either.” She said, turning to look at the antisocial demon.
Sesshomaru gave her a blank look, his eyes unflinching as she began to glare at him.
“Sesshomaru, your ears have probably the best hearing in this entire village, respectively.” She said glancing back at Inuyasha as he gave a growl of protest. Her fingers tightened over his mouth and he quieted, glaring at her with all the fire he possessed.
“Well?”
Everyone turned to look at him at Kagome’s question, surprised at her audacity. It was Sesshomaru after all. Not some other demon that they could just defeat in the blink of an eye. If he decided to stop being so accepting of them all, it could be fatal. Inuyasha after all, their strongest companion, was bare and vulnerable and Sango’s weapon was outside.
Sesshomaru ignored them, looking past her to his brother to respond.
“Why do you think, Inuyasha?”
Inuyasha’s eyes widened.
“Vboo!” he began struggling again despite Kagome’s warnings and Kagome gasped when in his efforts he accidentally bit into her hand, drawing blood.
“Vboo vaztar! Rummi vo, Kagoffe! Rummi vo!”
“BOTH OF YOU STOP!” She yelled angrily, her patience finally at an end. At her outburst, a small glimmer of pink appeared around the sides of her legs and ribs; as Sesshomaru noticed it, he smiled inwardly.
“What’s the matter, Inuyasha? Angry at what Kagome has to go through every night? Angry that you can’t stop it? Can’t control it?”
Kagome glared evenly at him, realizing what had gotten Inuyasha so peeved.
“Sesshomaru, that’s enough from you as well!” She said, her anger rising even more.
Sesshomaru saw the light beginning to build and chuckled softly, his eyes flashing.
“Why? What will you do, little human?” He took a step towards her, drawn by something he was not sure of.
He saw her eyes widen as her inability to back away, and knowing this as well, Sesshomaru took another step.
“Will you chain me up as you did him?” He took another menacing step forward and she gulped, Inuyasha struggling even more. Undeterred, Sesshomaru continued, his voice softening slightly as his unwavering gaze held hers. She wanted to fight him off. Scream and yell and shout if only to make him stop staring at her like that. It did something to her…muddled her brain. Altered her mind and made her want to melt into a puddle of…something. It made her want something. Her breath was in her throat, her hand tightening on Inuyasha’s face with every inch he came closer to her. What was she…?
“Will you fight me? Beat me up and leave me to die outside of here? Of this village?” He fairly breathed the last word as he was only a step away from her watching her entire body tense like the deer in Shikiba’s analogy.
“Will you join me?”
There was no warning. No sign, nothing to have foretold him of what happened next. All he saw was a flash of red – and then his brother tackled him to the floor, the pink bands dematerialized from around his wrists and ankles soundlessly.
Grunting in surprise, the weight of his brother’s body pinned Sesshomaru down as Inuyasha viciously began punching him with his bare fists.
He heard Kagome scream. In surprise or for his sake, Sesshomaru didn’t know. All he did know was that something had come over him…something ‘strange’, and he had been acting…
The feel of Inuyasha’s fist slamming into his face cleared his mind as it knocked his head backwards and he growled in fury at the mere thought of it happening. In the blink of an eye, a barrier came up around his body, forcing Inuyasha back even as he continued to punch it.
“Inuyasha! INUYASHA NO!”
“BASTARD!” Inuyasha screamed thrusting Kagome away as she tried to pull him back.
Biting her lip, she held on, shaking him roughly to try and make him see reason.
“I’ll put you back to the way you were Inuyasha!” She threatened, forcing some anger into her voice. Inuyasha growled in response, stilling in his assault on his brother’s force field.
“You’re…defending him?” He asked dangerously as he looked over his shoulder to glare at her. She glared right back, putting her hands on her hips in a way she had seen her mother do when scolding Souta.
“No! No and I never will! But for now I need you to stop being such an idiot and let him go!” She said as she stomped her foot on the floor.
“Why? You heard what he said! He was taunting you – and me!” Inuyasha shouted, fists clenched as he violently kicked the shield with his foot, outwardly ignoring the pain.
Sango and Miroku, both silent during the exchange quietly stepped forward.
“Sesshomaru should leave.” Sango said as she glanced at the demon lord, now standing and glaring coolly at them all.
“Why? I want to kill the bastard!” Inuyasha said, his ears flattening against his head.
“Inuyasha, he knows he is not wanted.” Miroku said as he tapped the bottom of his crosier against the floor.
“Huh. Why would I return? This fool here is brash in his love for the girl.” Sesshomaru said icily, his body turning dismissively from the group as his shield went down. Showing that even though he had his back turned on an enemy, he was confident in his dispatch of them if they attacked.
“Leave. Now.” Inuyasha said through clenched teeth. From behind him, Sango saw Kagome’s head bowed down, shielding her eyes.
She knew why.
*This fool here is brash in his love for the girl.*
Kagome had waited for so long to hear those words…but whenever anything at all was mentioned about them, it was always by another person. She hadn’t given up on Inuyasha, but she was close to it. How long could she take it after all? He was in love with Kikyo who wanted him dead, Inuyasha ignored her, but then fought off or killed his other competition. Kagome was powerless in that fight…and Sesshomaru had no right to mention the subject.
“I want you gone…NOW!” Kagome said, her fists clenching. Sesshomaru saw the light pink outlining her form once again, and narrowed his eyes.
“You would dare to fight me?” He asked softly, looking over his shoulder at her.
He could suddenly feel the rising power, the churning of her purifying energies as they collided and melded with one another inside of her body. From the way she acted however, it was as if she had absolutely no idea what was going on. How attention-grabbing.
‘I would leave Sesshomaru…give her time to think.’
He viciously closed the mental link Shikiba had opened up within his mind, his eyes flashing.
‘I back down from no one.’
“You can leave without having to…” Miroku said, backing in front of Kagome in hopes to calm her down.
He glared at the monk.
“Perhaps I want to fight her.” He put almost candidly, his hair flowing out around him.
He heard a hiss from Kagome and looked over the monk to her. The power rose again, the aura surrounding her, crackling brightly…but then suddenly, it simply went out.
Caught off guard, Sesshomaru stared at her as she gave a small cry, her fists balling as she fell to the floor, her eyes rolling into the back of her head. And then suddenly he felt almost as if someone had kicked his legs out from under him. Only, instead of falling, he simply fell to the side…and disappeared.
Shouting himself, Inuyasha wheeled around and jumped to her side. Kaeda did as well, kneeling down as she felt her pulse.
“She has fainted again.”
“Sesshomaru!” Inuyasha growled, spinning around with the thought of tackling him again.
However when they looked at Sesshomaru, he was gone.
“Why isn’t he - ?” Sango asked in surprise, her eyes widening.
“Yes, I didn’t think that he would leave so easily…wait a minute.”
Sango looked at Miroku and felt reason suddenly dawn within her as well. They both looked down at the unconscious priestess.
“She wanted him gone…do you think maybe she did something to…” Sango looked at Kaeda in puzzlement.
“Transport him somewhere?” the old woman finished, sitting back on her knees. “’Tis likely.”
“What is wrong with her? Where did this suddenly come from?” Inuyasha asked, still infuriated at how his brother had gotten away. He put a blanket over her to keep her warm.
“She’s been acting so strange since our fight with Naraku…and even stranger a few days ago when Inuyasha brought her back to the camp.” Miroku said, surprisingly not putting any lascivious comments in with it.
Sango kneeled down next to him.
“Do you think something happened to her?”
“Like what? She hasn’t seemed to have been having any adverse reactions except for this.” Miroku said calmly as he crossed his legs, his staff on the floor beside him.
“I know but still…did you feel that? She’s never had that much power before! It might have even been more than what she used to kill Naraku!” Sango said, nibbling on her bottom lip.
“Aye…not that it ‘tis a bad thing…” Kaeda said as she glanced around at them as they spoke.
“Do you think it will last? Could it be a spell maybe?”
“Why would they put a spell on Kagome to make her stronger?” Miroku asked with a frown.
“That doesn’t just happen. There’s always a price with something like that.”
“Do you think the child bargained with somebody for this?” Kaeda asked.
Miroku looked thoughtful but then shook his head.
“That doesn’t sound like Kagome. Besides, she knows better than to do something like that.”
“Damn straight!” Inuyasha said sourly, crossing his arms over his chest.
Sango gave a defeated sigh.
“So do we just wait and see if it progresses and ‘then’ do something?” She asked.
“We could…its not like we have many options if we can’t even pinpoint the source of the problem.” Miroku said, sighing himself.
They all were silent.
“So where’s the runt?” Inuyasha asked.
Notes – Okay, another chapter. Wow these things are keeping me busy…a little too busy actually. That’s why I have some bad news. Don’t worry I’m not deleting this story or stop writing it or anything like that! No, no, no. It’s just I’m busy and need time for other things like work and stuff. So my point is that my updates might take longer than they have been. I know how much I’ve been spoiling you all…but I’m sorry – I’m cutting you all off, so to speak. BUT I STILL LOVE YOU ALL!!! ESPECIALLY PAT! YOU'RE THE BEST!
