Chapter 5

“So you did set the security system?”

“Yes Sess I got it.”

“Good.”

“Oh and by the way Kouga called and has invited us to Sway with him tonight. He says it will all be on him as an apology for his actions yesterday,” Inuyasha said, “He said that Sapphire is even better than Miroku makes her out to be.”

“Fine half-breed, if you can find a babysitter then we will go.”

Inuyasha was already about jumping out of his skin. He had already called Kaeda and she had agreed to watch the kids for the night. “Already found a babysitter big brother. We leave to meet Kouga around ten.” Inuyasha smirked and walked out the door. He felt like he had finally won something. For once he was ahead of his brother. The rest of the day passed by uneventfully.

Sesshomaru found his mind going back to Kagome often and it was bothering him a little. He had finally found one of the old scrolls he was looking for and legend did say that a strong miko could produce full youkai pups. That only made his thoughts on her increase, he didn’t know what to do for once in his life. He was deep in thought when Inuyasha came in to tell him he was leaving to go pick up the kids. After he left Sesshomaru tried to take his mind off of Kagome by reviewing a few files.

Kagome woke up around two to a quiet house. The kids must not be home yet, she thought as she groggily made her way to her bathroom. She turned on the shower and stripped off her clothes. She stood in the shower just letting the hot water work out all the kinks in her muscles as her mind slowly woke up. After she got out and dried off she threw her hair up into a ponytail then dug through her drawers for clothes. She ended up wearing an old worn pair of shorts that were a little too short and a tight grey shirt with a cat on it that said bad kitty. She pulled on a pair of sneakers and made her way downstairs. She could really use one of her energy drinks right now.

Just as she sat down in the living room her cell phone rang. She pulled it out of her pocket and wasn’t surprised to see that it was Miroku calling. “Hello, Miroku,” she said smiling as she answered.

“You are a godsend. I swear I could run this place even if you were my only dancer.”

“So I take it you made a good profit last night,” she said grinning.

“Good? More like great! I could pay all the bills for two months after last night. You are my golden goddess!”

She couldn’t help but laugh at his enthusiasm, “Well I’m glad I could help you.”

“There is a few things I wanted to discuss with you though. First off I hired some more guards to keep an eye on you. Also, I needed to ask, some of the VIPs request to meet you personally, not like a private show or anything, but just an introduction.”

“I don’t know Miro, are you sure it’s just an introduction?”

“Of course babe, I will have a guard nearby and it will only be a few at a time. I will make sure nothing happens to you. And if you agree I will give you half of all of the profit made from them for the introduction. Please, Kags I’m begging you”

“Ok. I’ll do it, as long as a guard is nearby and if anything happens you call it off. So, how much do these people pay to meet me?”

“More than you would think. I’ll see you later hon.”

“Alright, bye Miro.” She hung up the phone and couldn’t help but smile at her friend’s antics. He had always been an odd ball. She was pretty sure that Sango had her hands full with him as her boyfriend.

She finished her drink and decided that she needed to check and see what she had supplies for, for dinner. Just as she made it to the kitchen she heard the door open and two small balls of energy attached themselves to her arms talking about their day so fast she couldn’t make any of it out. “Ok, ok, calm down, one at a time,” she said laughing. She picked one up in each arm and carried them to the bar. She sat them down and gave them each a cookie and a glass of milk.

“Are you sure you want to give them sugar after that greeting?” Inuyasha said laughing as he walked in. He had been stunned when he walked in the door and the kids shot straight to Kagome. They never attached to someone so quick.

“Oh, it’s just one cookie, calm down grouch,” she said nudging him and laughing. The kids started to laugh too and Inuyasha couldn’t help but smile.

“Inu baby are you home?” he heard the high pitched voice come from the door. He flinched, he hated when she used that pitch it hurt his ears. His ears flattened to his head as he walked to the door to greet his girlfriend. He led her into the kitchen and noticed her smile fall as soon as she saw Kagome. “And who might this be?” she asked in a frosty tone.

“Oh, hi I’m Kagome. I’m the new roommate,” Kagome answered in her usual cheerful voice, offering her hand to Kikyo, “you must be Inuyasha’s girlfriend it’s so nice to finally meet you.”

Kikyo just looked at her hand with a scowl before turning away from her. Kikyo figured she was just another floozy trying to get her Inuyasha from her. “Inuyasha, can I talk to you?”

His ears automatically flattened again, he knew she was pissed by her tone. He turned to Kagome, “Can you watch the kids for a little bit?”

“Sure, they were still going to tell me about their day and Rin says she has a picture for me,” she said smiling and turning back to the kids. Inuyasha turned to follow Kikyo into the living room.

“What the hell is going on?” she shrieked as soon as they reached the living room.

“What do you mean?” Inuyasha asked keeping his tone low.

“You didn’t tell me your new roommate was some hussy! What are you playing at?”

“Excuse me? I don’t think you have a say in who we let move in to the spare bedroom, and if you honestly believe that there is something going on I think we’re through. How can you accuse me of cheating on you just because we have a female roommate? If you don’t trust me then I think our relationship is over.” He yelled back at her.

“Inu baby, I’m not accusing you. I do trust you. It’s that hussy I don’t trust.”

“I don’t care Kikyo, I am done with all of this bullshit! Leave!”

“You don’t mean that. Come on we’re perfect for each other,” she said as fake tears started to make their way down her face.

“I do mean it. And you can stop the water works because I know the only reason you want to be with me is because of my money. In fact I know that you have been cheating on me for months now, I was just hoping that you really did love me. Sesshomaru always checks the people in our lives, he calls it insurance.” With that Inuyasha grabbed her arm and lead her to the door, “Goodbye Kikyo,” he said slamming the door in her face.

“I see you have finally come to your senses little brother.”

Inuyasha nearly jumped out of his skin, “How the hell do you always manage to sneak in the house without anyone knowing?” he asked turning to Sesshomaru.

“Honestly this time did not require any sneaking, that bitch is loud enough to cover up an explosion. Besides I do not sneak anyway, you are just not very perceptive.”

   “Keh, cocky bastard.”

“Hn. Now where is Rin?”

“She’s in the kitchen with Kagome and Shippo.”

“You mean you left the children and Kagome within hearing range of that tramp. They need not hear all of the profanity that she spews. She could rival you in that department.”

“Well, it’s not like I expected her to blow up like that.”

“I did, and don’t worry Sesshomaru, I got the kids up to my room before she ever started,” Kagome said walking into the room, “I didn’t mean to but in to the conversation, but I thought I would let you know.”

“Well, thank you for your consideration. As for interjecting into the conversation that is no problem at all, you need not apologize,” he said before turning to her, “By the way the children will be spending the night with a babysitter tonight so you need not bother with dinner. Inuyasha and I will be going out as well.”

“Okay, thanks for letting me know,” she said smiling.

“Kagome, come on it’s your turn,” Rin called from upstairs.

“Coming. We’re playing go fish,” she explained as she went back up the stairs.

Inuyasha was speechless. Usually if someone interrupted in a conversation Sesshomaru would bite their heads off. What was going on with him? Then it hit him like a ton of bricks, Sesshomaru liked Kagome. Inuyasha couldn’t help the grin that came to his face. Sesshomaru liked Kagome, a human. He had never thought that Sesshomaru would fall for a human.

“What do you find so amusing half-breed?”

“Oh nothing, just thinking.”

“I highly doubt that you are even capable of such an act.”

Inuyasha just shrugged and walked out of the room.

Sesshomaru watched him walk out of the room. His behavior was highly unusual did he suspect something about him liking Kagome? He was an idiot, but even he figured things out now and then. Sesshomaru shook his head and went to his study, he had more important things to do than ponder on the half-breeds actions. He sat at his desk and pulled the files out. He had been working on things for a few minutes, trying to figure out how the numbers were off in one of the files when he heard a knock at the door. He could smell who it was and told her to enter.

“Sesshomaru, sorry to interrupt, but I have part of this month’s rent for you.” She walked up to his desk and handed him the money, glancing down at the papers as she did. “Well that’s interesting.”

He glanced up at her as he took the money, “What is?”

“Oh sorry to snoop. The profit in that file is off because somebody forgot to add in this part here,” she said pointing to another part of the folder.

He looked down and quickly did the math to find out that she was indeed correct. He would have to have a talk with the person that was responsible for this. “Indeed, well thank you.”

“No problem, but you might want to check into whoever did this because it looks like the same mistakes are in the other folders as well. He might be embezzling, I mean I don’t like to accuse somebody, but it is rather odd that it is the same mistake is made every time.    I don’t mean to butt in, just a thought.” She said blushing as she turned to leave.

“Wait a minute, please. You seem to have quite a bit of knowledge concerning these matters.”

“Well, I was going to business school before my grandfather became ill, but I have always been good at math.”

“Why don’t you have a seat and explain to me why you think this person might be embezzling?” he said the whole time wondering how he could miss such a thing. He was very busy, but that did not excuse the fact that someone was embezzling from his company and he had completely missed it, and it was no small amount either. He would have to call a meeting to talk to the people who were supposed to double check this man’s work. If it was obvious to Kagome, who had not even completed business school, with one quick glance, then they should have seen it.

Kagome sat in his study for over an hour explaining all of the signs that the person doing the accounting was embezzling. She had just finished explaining to him, the whole time he took notes, when another knock sounded on the door. Sesshomaru nearly growled when he smelled who it was. He decided he better get up and walk Kagome out of the study so that Kikyo would leave her alone. When he opened the door he heard Kagome gasp as she saw Kikyo. Kikyo just glared at her. Kagome quickly slipped past her and made her way upstairs.

“What are you doing here? Did Inuyasha not make it clear enough that you were no longer welcome?”

“I wanted to speak with you for a moment.”

Sesshomaru watched her for a moment then moved aside so she could enter the study. He left the door open however, there was no way he would have Inuyasha or anyone else getting the wrong idea. As it was when he first told Inuyasha she was cheating on him, he swore Sesshomaru was lying because he wanted Kikyo. Besides Sesshomaru was still pissed about her comments earlier toward Kagome.   He took his seat behind the desk and put all of the folders and his notes away.

“Now, what do you want?”

“I wanted to talk to you about having someone spy on me. That’s an invasion of privacy. Why would you do that?”

“It is not an invasion of privacy and I did it for my own reasons and am not obliged to explain myself to you. Now if that is all, leave.”

She stood up, but instead of leaving she walked over to him and started undoing her shirt. “I think I know why you did it. You wanted me,” she said as she knelt down beside him.

“And why, pray tell would this Sesshomaru be interested in a whore like you?” he asked grabbing her roughly and pulling her to her feet. She wasted no time in removing her shirt and pushing herself against him. He shoved her away, “you will remove yourself from this Sesshomaru’s presence at once.” He threw her shirt at her then proceeded to shove her out of the door, “I advise you to leave with haste before I decide to kill you and rid the world of one more whore.”

She tried to flirt with him as he shoved her all the way to the front door and roughly pushed her out. “If you come here again I will not hesitate to have you arrested,” and with that he slammed the door in her face. When he turned he saw Inuyasha on the steps watching him.

“Guess you were right about her being a whore. I saw what she tried in there. I smelled her and came down, I saw it all. I’m sorry I ever doubted you, she was definitely a gold digging bitch,” Inuyasha said walking up to Sesshomaru. “It is already after six, did you want to spend some time with Rin before I drop her off with Kaeda?”

Sesshomaru looked at his watch, it was hard to believe it was already so late. “Yes, I will go up and help her pack while she tells me about her day,” he said making his way upstairs. Inuyasha figuring it was a good idea followed him up the stairs and made his way to Shippo’s room. If he didn’t help him pack all he would take would be toys.

Kagome had seen the whole encounter with Sesshomaru and Kikyo as well. It was hard to believe that she had gone from one brother to trying to seduce the other so quickly. Did that woman have no morals? Kagome shivered remembering the glare Kikyo gave her before going in the study. She probably had another person to watch out for because she had a feeling that Kikyo would blame all of this on her and come after her. After both brothers went up the stairs she quietly left the living room deciding that she needed to find something to eat before she left for work in a few hours.

When she entered the kitchen she started rifling through cabinets looking for something quick and easy to make. She hit the jackpot when she opened the third cabinet which happened to be stocked full of ramen. She put some water on the stove to heat up the whole time running her conversation with Sesshomaru through her mind. She had been thinking about him a lot lately and she knew she had a crush on him, too bad he didn’t like humans. She had been really surprised when Sesshomaru had listened to her when she pointed out the accounting error, and even more so when he had asked her to have a seat and help him with the work even though she had never finished business school.

She knew he was mad when he found out that one of his employees were embezzling, his aura had pulsed with anger. She felt sorry for the poor bastard that had done the deed. As soon as the water was heated she shook her head to clear her thoughts before starting to prepare her ramen. Just as she finished pouring the water she heard fast footsteps approaching. She knew it was Inuyasha by the aura.

“Hey are you making ramen? Can you make me about three cups as well?” he asked, barely stopping for air.

Kagome couldn’t help but giggle as she pulled out more cups of ramen. She handed Inuyasha the cup that was already and poured the remaining water into another one. She then proceeded to heat more water so she could make hers and Inuyasha’s last cup. “I take it you are the one that stocked up on the ramen?” she asked, giggling at the sight of Inuyasha shoveling it into his mouth.

“It is my favorite food so of course I stock up,” he replied through a mouth full of noodles.

“Thought so. Well here is your second cup and the water is heating for the rest. Don’t worry I will replace the one I eat,” she said pulling another energy drink from the fridge. “Want anything to drink?”

“Soda please,” he said through another mouthful, “and don’t worry about replacing it. It’s just one and you are our roommate now. We share the food supplies. Well except your energy drinks, we wouldn’t drink those. Keep an eye on the kids though, they might try to sneak one.”

She couldn’t help but laugh as she handed him his soda, then she finished making the rest of the ramen. “Don’t worry, I have already talked to them about my drinks, I keep count, and I put them in the back where the kids can’t see them,” she said handing him his third cup of ramen. She was amazed at how fast he ate, he was already done with the previous two cups and waiting for the third.

“Sorry, but is there enough water to make one more?” he asked sheepishly.

“You’re in luck, there’s just barely enough,” she replied pouring the remaining water into another cup.

“Inuyasha, have you no manners? Surely you could eat without making such a mess and acting like a barbarian,” Sesshomaru said as he walked into the room. Inuyasha’s eating habits were atrocious, and he ate so much ramen it was a wonder that he never got sick of it. Sesshomaru looked toward Kagome who was eating her own ramen. She displayed such dignity and grace, and her table manners were impeccable.

“Would you like me to make you a sandwich or something to hold you over for now? Surely you can use something to nibble for now,” she asked him with genuine concern in her voice.

“Thank you, but I am fine. I will eat later while we are out. I also wanted to thank you again for helping with those folders, it was a great help and I managed to get everything straightened out. If you would I will be holding a meeting with the accountant and all of the employees that were hired to double check his work tomorrow. I would greatly appreciate it if you would go to the meeting with me to help explain the situation,” he said calmly studying her.

“What time will this meeting be held?” she asked wondering if she would be able to make it.

“ I have set it up for four so that you will not have to alter your schedule and I will have a limo pick you up.”

“Ok, that sounds fine,” she said giving him a radiant smile as she took another bite of her food.

“Did I miss something? What’s going on with the accountant?” Inuyasha asked with his mouth full of food, “and why do you need Kagome present for this meeting?”

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes and explained the situation to his brother. He tried to hide his own anger as he did so, but even if his mask was in place, his aura showed it all. Kagome decided that it would be best if she let them talk it out alone so she quietly left the kitchen and went up to her room.
