Let me take the faith from your foundation
Let me take the wrong to make it right Let me take the dark like I’ve been here all night Ending before I begin. -Darren Hayes: Ending Before I Begin December 25, 1990 Dexter, Maine “Rin told me you would be here.” Shippo said still poking Sesshomaru in the shoulder with a stick he picked up from outside. The wood was still cold, and Sesshomaru was starting to get annoyed by the sharp feeling of it in his shoulder. Feeling grumpy Sesshomaru sat up and remembered where he was. “What are you talking about she doesn’t know me.” He was confused and sleep was still swimming around in his head. Everything was dark, and Sesshomaru suspected that it was incredibly early in the morning. Taking a deep breath in Sesshomaru filled his lungs with the scent of Rin. The scent that he surrounded himself in when he went to sleep put him at ease. The cozy little family had left their house unlocked, and Sesshomaru took advantage of the warmth and comfort of Rin’s little bed. Now that he was awake he was hungry. Frowning he realized that he didn’t want to take any food from their kitchen. He didn’t want them to think that someone had broken into their house while they were gone, and then put up defenses that would make his obligations harder. Shippo was still standing still and looking down. He tapped the cold branch that he used to wake Sesshomaru up with against the sides of his blue jeans. Wet mossy bark flaked off onto the fabric. He looked upset. “She doesn’t know you, but she can scent out everything.” Sesshomaru coughed. He wasn’t expecting that. Wasn’t she supposed to be human right now? The precision of the human nose could not do what Shippo was suggesting. “Did her demon blood wake?” Sesshomaru questioned while clearing his throat. “Not really.” Shippo replied. “She is still human.” Suddenly Sesshomaru felt as if he was cheated. Once the higher ups found out that he was known to the regenerist he would be pulled off the case, and if Rin ever transformed into her demon birthright she would probably never see him. He could just imagine the higher members of the Syndicate keeping them on different continents just to torment him. The hope that dangled in front of him for such a short period of time disappeared. “I suppose you will have me taken off of the mission then. I cannot keep the terms of the contract if she knows I exist now.” He sounded dead and dull. Surprised at the dead sound of his voice Sesshomaru found that he didn’t like it. He didn’t like it and he felt powerless to stop it. That feeling was hard to sit with, it was hard to accept. “No.” Shippo rubbed the back of his head with one mitten covered hand. “She may be able to scent out things but she can’t tell that it is you.” He looked a little frustrated in trying to explain it to him. “Her senses are developed, but she is immature. She can’t tell the difference between certain scents. She told me that your scent was a good scent. That’s why she walked into your room yesterday. Rin was thinking your scent was cookies or something like that.” Relief trickled though the tightness in Sesshomaru. Shippo didn’t want to make his life miserable. “How am I going to keep her from tracking me?” Sesshomaru was thinking out loud, trying to come up with a plan so that he could keep the contract and stay watching over Rin. “Sesshomaru?” Shippo was pulling his mittens off with his teeth so Sesshomaru’s name came out sounding a bit muffled and childlike. Despite having the appearance of a young adult Shippo was still fairly childish Sesshomaru reasoned. Looking at the kitsune Sesshomaru nodded. “Are you going to tell on me? The service providers don’t know about my friendship with Rin’s parents.” Tormented Shippo went on without actually getting an answer from Sesshomaru. “I hate the Syndicate’s rules. I don’t understand what is so bad about wanting to have friends. I don’t think I did anything wrong, and I don’t want to be punished for it.” He paced for a moment before looking out Rin’s window to the woods that separated the Syndicate house and hers. “I wish things were different.” Sesshomaru agreed in silence. Thanks for Reading & Reviewing!
Flying_Sunshine- ^_^ hope you enjoy this chapter as much. I know it's short... probably the shortest one in the story. I am going to try to post the next chapter soon, I got a little sidetracked this time... whoops Support the Authors of AFF with Reviews!
